Susquehanna Township Baseball Association to Receive ‘Homefield Makeover’

HARRISBURG, PA. – The Harrisburg Senators are excited to partner with First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of F.N.B Corporation, and Black Landscape for its ‘Homefield Makeover’ initiative that will provide a field renovation to one local youth baseball or softball league. After receiving applications from over 15 different leagues, Susquehanna Township Baseball Association (STBA) has been selected as the beneficiary.

The renovation will take place at Stabler Field (4353 Kaby St., Harrisburg, PA 17110) on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Various projects will be worked on at the field including removal of the infield grass, capping the fence, and extending the baselines. This will allow for a safer and more versatile field.

The projects will be completed by volunteers and staff members from the Senators, First National Bank, Black Landscape, and STBA.

The Senators offices are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the offseason. The 2023 home opener is Tuesday, April 11, against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Senators and First National Bank Partner for “Homefield Makeover” Initiative

The Harrisburg Senators and First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of F.N.B. Corporation (FNB), are pleased to announce the start of their “Homefield Makeover” initiative which gives one local youth baseball or softball league an updated field. The renovation will consist of $10,000 in goods and services from the Senators and FNB.

The goal of the initiative is to provide a safe, playable field for a local youth sports league. The field makeover will take place this fall so the field is ready for the upcoming youth baseball and softball season. Members of the Senators front office and FNB employees are donating their time to help with the field renovation. The renovation will tentatively take place in October with a grand opening slated for the 2023 season.

One youth baseball or softball league will be chosen for the field makeover based on an application process. The nature of the renovation will be based on the needs of the field chosen and could vary from fencing to supplying new infield dirt. Field equipment, such as rakes and shovels, will be donated to the league for upkeep of the field, along with a professional consultation with the Harrisburg Senators Grounds Crew team. Leagues can apply on the Senators website (www.senatorsbaseball.com). Leagues may apply beginning Tuesday, August 2 and applications close Tuesday, August 16.

“This is an idea that was part of a brainstorming session with our partners at First National Bank,” said Senators President Kevin Kulp. “We are always wanting to collaborate on community initiatives together and this is one that we plan on starting this year. To be able to help provide our kids a safer and more professional place to play baseball or softball is very exciting. The plan is that this is something that will be done annually so that we can touch more parts of our community over the years.”

Harrisburg Senators Partnering with Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues

HARRISBURG, PA – The Harrisburg Senators are thrilled to announce a new youth baseball and softball sponsorship program. The new program begins with the 2022 season and is another way the Senators are working with local communities.

In this program, youth baseball and softball leagues receive:

  • A $300 sponsorship check to the league from the Senators
  • ·A 3’ x 8’ Senators banner to be hung on an outfield fence or other high profile location at the youth league ballpark throughout the 2022 season.
  • Additional easy fundraising opportunities that can raise each youth league an extra $400 or more.

Senators to Donate $5,000 to COVID-19 Relief

The Harrisburg Senators are thrilled to announce that we have raised $5,000 to donate to local nonprofits to aid in COVID-19 relief. Over the last two months the Senators have sold t-shirts, raffled off autographed memorabilia, & sold undated ticket vouchers to raise money to aid in relief.

“We recognize the enormous strain that the COVID-19 pandemic poses to our community and know that every little bit helps,” said Kevin Kulp, Senators President. “Thank you to our fans for bidding on the memorabilia that allowed us to make this donation to help a few of our very important local organizations that are especially challenged during this time.”

The Senators 2020 season is still in an indefinite hold. As more information becomes available we look forward to sharing it with our community.

 

Senators Job Fair this Saturday, February 15 at FNB Field

The Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the 2019 World Series Champion Washington Nationals, annual job fair is Saturday, February 15 at FNB Field. The Senators and their food service partners are hiring part-time and game day seasonal employees. The job fair runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with every applicant guaranteed an interview.

The Senators have several positions available including ushers, kids zone game operators, club seats attendants, ticket sellers, ticket scanners, utility positions, stadium maintenance and team merchandise. Additionally, the Senators game entertainment department will be interviewing for openings with the promo team and video board/camera operators. Candidates for employment must be 16 years of age before the end of March.

Please note that no full-time positions are available, and none are likely to come from part-time employment. The Senators home season is 70 games from April 16 through September 7 with playoffs possible the first two weeks in September. There could be additional dates due to additional events at the ballpark.

The Senators food service partner, Harrisburg Sportservice, a Delaware North Company, is hiring applicants with or without food experience. All positions have a starting rate competitive with local entertainment and restaurants. Positions include servers for catering areas, cooks and food prep persons, concession team members, stand leads, daytime receiving and loading personnel. Those interested can apply before the job fair online at www.senatorsfood.com. Candidates do not need to attend either job fair to apply for Sportservice positions. To expedite the process, the Senators and Sportservice have applications on the Senators website. They are located under the “club info” tab through the “seasonal job opportunities” link. We are asking applicants to either print, if possible, and complete the application before coming to the job fair or complete the online application. The Senators and Sportservice have online applications that can be submitted in advance or applications will be available on the day of the job fair. The Senators and Sportservice are equal opportunity employers. Each applicant should plan to be at the ballpark for a minimum of an hour. Parking for this event is in the north parking lot. The Job Fair is held in the Senators front office which is located near the main gates to FNB Field. Senators Holiday Food Drive to Benefit the Salvation Army

With the holiday season just around the corner, the Harrisburg Senators announce today that they are partnering with Karns Quality Foods on a one-day holiday food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. The food drive takes place at FNB Field on Wednesday, November 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Fans donating any of the below listed items will have an opportunity to draw a prize out of the Senators prize bin! The prizes include Senators koozies, April 2018 ticket vouchers, autographed baseballs, free turkeys from Karns Quality Foods and more! The Harrisburg Senators are asking their fans to help them raise relief dollars for the devastation in the Houston area due to Hurricane, now Tropical Storm, Harvey. Learn from the Senators at the Senators 2017 Baseball Camp

The Harrisburg Senators baseball camp is your child’s opportunity to learn baseball from a professional coach or player. What better way to learn the finer points of baseball, the ins and outs, the fundamentals than from the very players you watch when you come to FNB Field?

The two-day camp dates are Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6. The camp is for kids aged 7 – 14 and will have instruction on hitting, running, pitching and fielding. The camp is divided into two groups, ages 7-9 and ages 10-14. The camp is four and a half hours of instruction over two days.

The instruction times both days is the same for both age groups. Ages 7-9 have instruction from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Ages 10-14 have instruction from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch follows from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Registration Wednesday for ages 7-9 is 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. ages 10-14.

For a price of $85 each participant receives a baseball camp t-shirt, lunch each day, a ticket to the game on Thursday, and they get to take the field with the Senators before the game on Thursday. This is your youngster’s chance to play on FNB Field and hang out with players!

Senators Annual Pink Night is August 19

The Harrisburg Senators Annual Pink Night is Saturday, August 19 when the Senators play the New York Yankees double-A affiliate the Trenton Thunder. This season, the Senators are honoring survivors of breast cancer by using their names to create pinstripes on the Senators’ special Pink Night jersey.

The jersey will be pinstriped made from the survivor’s names. Starting now, and extending through June 13th, fans will be able to submit an entry with the names of anyone who has battled breast cancer. All names submitted will be used on the jerseys.

The Senators will invite all individuals who have battled breast cancer to take part in a pre-game human pink ribbon in the outfield during the National Anthem including family members. There will also be a banner on display that evening with every name of every survivor from the submissions.

Senators Ranked Seventh amongst 162 Minor League Baseball Teams in Charitable Giving in 2016

Recently, Minor League Baseball Charities sent out a report that ranked the Harrisburg Senators 7th amongst the 162 Minor League Baseball teams for the 2016 calendar year in total charitable giving. The Senators contributed over $880,000 directly back into the Central PA community in 2016 which comes mostly in the form of direct monetary contributions and in-kind donations.

The Senators give in various ways including the proceeds from the annual Hot Stove Dinner in February and the in-season charity dinner in August. Also included are the proceeds from the many special event jersey auctions and raffles, fundraiser tickets sold to non-profit organizations, ticket and merchandise donations, and in-person appearances by front office staff and players.

In 2016, the Senators front office staff and players made over 230 appearances. Last year, the team wore six specialty jerseys which were auctioned and raffled with the proceeds going to charity. Additionally, over $82,000 was donated through fundraisers. The Senators made in-kind donations of tickets and merchandise to organizations throughout central Pennsylvania totaling $697,358.

“We are extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish in recent years in terms of our community involvement and charitable giving,” said Harrisburg Senators’ President Kevin Kulp. “It’s a big part of our mission. We take our summertime platform in this community very seriously. While we always strive to provide affordable family entertainment, being a part of this community and being able to give back is a big part of who we are.”

“We want to use our platform to raise awareness for local non-profit organizations and help them raise necessary funds so that they can continue their good work. Our staff works tireless hours doing what we do and I think that one of the most rewarding aspects of our jobs is knowing that we are fighting the good fight and we ARE making a difference. $880,000 for us is a good number and one in which we are extremely proud.”

The goal in 2017 is to hit the million-dollar mark in charitable donations and the team is off and running. Organized by Senators Community Relations Coordinator, Blair Jewell, the Senators have already made over 130 appearances and recently had the entire team going to the Central PA Food Bank on Wednesday, April 5. While at the Food Bank, the team put together over 150 boxes of food for families. Manager Matt LeCroy, along with several players and staff members, have already made the first of several appearances this season to the Penn State Children’s Hospital. They played bingo with kids, answered questions and learned about the youngsters during their visit.

“It means a lot to our patients and families when the Senators take time out of their schedules to come in and visit,” said Sarah Miller, Child Life Support Associate at Penn State Children’s Hospital. “There are always plenty of smiles to go around when they stop by!”

The Senators look forward to continuing to raise money for local non-profit organizations. The players and front office staff will continue to make appearances throughout the season. The Senators not only work with charitable organizations in the community, but also aid organizations through ballpark promotions.

Some examples of season long in-park community initiatives include free parking when fans donate clothes to Community Aid on Thursday nights. On Monday nights, members and former members of the armed forces receive free tickets and their families receive half price tickets. Each game the Senators spotlight a different community organization as part of the “Community Organization of the Game” program which allows a non-profit organization to come to the ballpark and provide information to Senators fans about them. Every game you come to the ballpark there is likely a group in attendance that is making money as part of their easy fundraiser program where organizations can make as much as $4 per ticket sold.

This is the 31st season of Harrisburg Senators baseball since returning to the Eastern League in 1987 and while the Senators organization will continuously strive to provide quality entertainment at an affordable price, the team will also continue to strive to make a difference in the community.

Support the Vs. Cancer Foundation on August 23

Join Senators’ players in shaving your head for cancer

Harrisburg-SenatorsThe Harrisburg Senators are thrilled to announce that they are teaming up with the Vs. Cancer Foundation for a major fundraising event on Saturday, August 23 at Metro Bank Park. The event will take place before, during and after the Senators game that evening against the Trenton Thunder.

Vs-Cancer-logoSeveral Harrisburg Senators’ players are shaving their heads to show solidarity including Colin Bates, Robert Benincasa, Mitch Canham, Brian Dupra, Tyler Herron, Scott McGregor, Derek Self and John Simms. As a way to encourage fans to donate, the players will have their heads shaved at the conclusion of the game on August 23, on the field, in full view of everyone to watch it happen.

Fans will also have the opportunity to have their heads shaved thanks to Polished Salon & Spa. They are donating their time that night and fans can have their heads shaved for charity during the game for a donation of just $10.

Penn-State-Hershey-Childrens-HospitalAll of the proceeds benefit charity with half benefitting childhood cancer research and half given to the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Harrisburg Senators’ players and front office members are creating fundraising pages, as well as a one Senators team page, where fans can donate. Teams participating from all over the country consist of youth, high school, college and minor league baseball organizations.

In 2013, the Vs. Cancer Foundation helped 40,663 kids battling cancer. That number is expected to grow this year.

The Vs. Cancer Foundation was founded by Chase Jones, who played baseball at the University of North Carolina. Before his career could be a success, he left practice one day in 2006 with a terrible headache. After getting checked, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer.

In a move of solidarity, his teammates shaved their heads to support Jones at the time. Now a cancer survivor, Jones started the non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of children by funding international cancer research projects and supporting local children’s hospitals. Jones played for the Tar Heels from 2007-11 and started the foundation in 2012. So far since 2012, the organization has raised more than $1 million.

Help the Senators Paint the Park Pink

Special night is Saturday, August 9th

Harrisburg, PA – The Harrisburg Senators, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, are proud to announce details for their annual Paint the Park Pink night presented by Pennsy Supply. On Saturday, August 9th the Senators will Paint the Park Pink with balloons, jerseys, t-shirts and more, with all the proceeds from this special night going to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

The players will once again be wearing pink jerseys but this year 200 names of cancer survivors will be on the jersey. These jerseys, which the players will wear during the game, will be auctioned off after the game that night.

“On behalf of the cancer patients the American Cancer Society serves, I want to thank the Harrisburg Senators for this wonderful and unique opportunity to raise funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” said Darlene Blantz, 2014 Volunteer Event Chair. “The American Cancer Society provides emotional support, day to day help and information to 1 in 2 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients that call us for help. Because of generous organizations like the Harrisburg Senators, the American Cancer Society is making a difference every day in the lives of those touched by cancer.”

“We’re really excited to be partnering with Pennsy Supply and the American Cancer Society on our Paint the Park Pink Night this season on Saturday, Aug 9th,” said Senators’ President Kevin Kulp. “We hope to raise a lot of money as well as honor those that have battled breast cancer.    It should really be one of the most special nights of our season.”

Starting today, and extending through April 28th, fans will be able to submit an entry with the names of anyone who has battled breast cancer. Following the submission period, 200 names will be randomly chosen and will be printed onto the Senators pink jerseys, which will be worn by the team for the annual Paint the Park Pink Night.

That evening the Senators will also invite all women in attendance that are survivors and are currently fighting onto the field to take part in a pregame ceremony. The women on the field will create a human ribbon in the outfield during the National Anthem. There will also be a banner on display that evening with every name of every survivor from the submissions.

Senators Host Community Day on Monday

The Harrisburg Senators want to say a big Thank You to all of you that make our Community so special! So many events have taken place over the past year highlighting special people doing heroic acts and the Senators want to show our gratitude to those special people.

This Monday the Senators will host their first ever Community Day. All Firefighters, Police Officers, EMTs, Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, Hospital Workers and Members of the Armed Forces and their families are being offered free game tickets. Simply show your badge or work ID at the Metro Bank Park Box Office beginning today, Tuesday, July 2 through game time on Monday to receive FREE tickets for you and your family- limit of 6 per family.

This offer doesn’t apply to any of the all-you-can-eat seats and quantities are limited, so act now. This is only valid in person at the Metro Bank Park Box Office. Game time on Monday is at Noon with the gates opening at 11:00 a.m. as the Senators and Bowie Baysox wrap up a seven-game in five-day series.

Senators to help Support the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Effort

Team to donate all the proceeds from jersey auctions and raffle this weekend

This Saturday the Harrisburg Senators and their fans will step forward to do their part in helping the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Efforts. The Senators are wearing special Camouflage Jerseys which fans will have an opportunity to own through donation to the relief efforts. All proceeds from the auctions and raffle will be donated to the American Red Cross to support the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Efforts.

A live auction will take place after the game with several players participating. In addition, several jerseys will be in a silent auction during the game on Saturday night and one jersey will be available in an online auction beginning Friday. The remaining jerseys will be in a raffle with fans able to purchase raffle tickets during all four games this weekend. The players will autograph their individual jersey. The raffle will take place during the game on Monday and fans winning jerseys in the raffle will be notified following the game on Monday. 

Please join the Senators in helping those in need in Oklahoma. The tornado, which struck Monday, was 1.3 miles wide, was on the ground for nearly 40 minutes, and killed 24 people in Moore, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City.

The game time on Saturday is 7:00 p.m. with the Senators taking on the Reading Fightin Phils. Tickets are available on game days 10:00 a.m. until the end of the game, and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the end of the game.
