NEPA Crane & Hauling helps expand new 2022 program to 100 tickets for first responders

MOOSIC, PA (April 29, 2022) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are pleased to announce that NEPA Crane & Hauling will present each First Responder Friday at PNC Field for the remainder of the 2022 season. This new program was giving 50 complimentary tickets to the area’s local first responders and this new partnership with NEPA Crane & Hauling will expand that number to 100 tickets for every Friday home game this season.

“First Responders are the fabric of community and it’s because of them so many of us get to enjoy days at the ballpark,” stated Jeff Keeney, the owner of NEPA Crane & Hauling. “First Responders choose to be an active member of keeping our communities safe and NEPA Crane & Hauling does not take this for granted. Our communities First Responders are the reason why NEPA Crane & Hauling and our family members get to live and work where we do, and it’s important to us to say thank you any way we can.”

Tickets are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are limited to four per week per first responder.

First responders can register for tickets by filling out the form on the First Responder Friday page on swbrailriders.com. Our Community Relations department will contact the first responders that will receive tickets in advance of each Friday home game this season with information regarding the seats and to make further arrangements.

“When I was kid, a day at the ballpark meant a day watching the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons,” Keeney continued. “I still have memories of going to the games and my brother catching a foul ball and me being mad that I didn’t. The RailRiders aren’t just a business operating in our community. Their passion for supporting the local community and our First Responders is honorable and NEPA Crane & Hauling wants to support our local businesses and community members who live and work here.”

For more information, please contact Jordan Steiner, the Director of Community Relations for the RailRiders, at [email protected] or by calling (570) 558-4616.

RiverDogs to Host Conclusion of Youth Baseball Game Interrupted by Gunfire

April 28, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Charleston RiverDogs will host the conclusion of a youth baseball game that was interrupted by gunfire on May 3, the team announced on Thursday. The incident occurred at North Charleston’s Pepperhill Park on Monday evening. The North Charleston Recreation Royals and Angels will play the remainder of the game at 5:00 p.m. and enjoy a special night at the ballpark following their game. The 15U softball team that was practicing in the park at the time of the incident will also take part in the evening. Later, the RiverDogs host the Fayetteville Woodpeckers at 7:05 p.m.

“As a huge supporter of youth baseball, we felt that is was our responsibility to do something for these children that might help them move on from this traumatic experience”, said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “We have a tremendous opportunity, with what we do night in and night out, to help in difficult situations like these. Thankfully, with the help of the city of North Charleston and the North Charleston Recreation Department, we were able to put this special night together quickly.”

Major League Baseball is purchasing tickets to the game for all three youth teams, as well as hosting a post-game picnic for everyone involved. In addition, the Tampa Bay Rays are sending t-shirts and hats for the children. The Rays are the RiverDogs MLB affiliate.

“Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball were deeply saddened by the incident that took place Monday night and we are relieved that nobody was injured,” said Peter Woodfork, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of Minor League Operations and Development. “We are pleased that these children and their families will have an opportunity to finish this game at Joseph Riley Park prior to the RiverDogs hosting the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Tuesday. We hope the experience at The Joe will be a small step towards helping those involved in that frightening incident.”

The gates to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park will open one hour earlier than normal (5:00 p.m.) to accommodate fans who are interested in supporting the teams. A ticket is required for entry to the ballpark and will be good for both the youth baseball game and the RiverDogs contest. The nine and ten-year-olds making up the Royals and Angels will play a game from 5:00-6:00 p.m. During the game, members of the RiverDogs and Woodpeckers will interact with the children in the dugout and on the field.

Following their game, the youth teams, will enjoy the picnic as the RiverDogs take the field for their contest. Each team member has been invited to bring two additional family members to the game and the RiverDogs are donating two tickets to every youth baseball and softball player in the North Charleston Recreation Department system. RiverDogs Director of Community Outreach, Chris Singleton, will speak to the children during the post-game picnic.

“The RiverDogs are a true community partner. Following the events of Monday night affecting three of our youth athletic teams, the RiverDogs were among the first to reach out to offer support to the young players and their families,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. “Playing at The Joe will be a much needed positive and joyful experience for our kids.”

“Home Run For Life” Honoree Jack Chappell Received Heart Transplant at INTEGRIS Health

April 28, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and INTEGRIS Health continue the “Home Run For Life” series for an 11th season and recognize their first honoree of 2022, Jack Chappell of Edmond, during the Dodgers’ 7:05 p.m. game Saturday against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Chappell was diagnosed with heart failure in 2013 and was referred to cardiologists at INTEGRIS Health. He underwent placement of a HeartMate 2 Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) twice there before it was recommended that Chappell pursue a heart transplant. He was subsequently placed on the transplant list in 2020.

Just nine months ago, in July 2021, Chappell received his new heart at INTEGRIS Health and will now be honored during National Donate Life Month.

“Home Run For Life” recognizes individuals in the Oklahoma City community who have overcome a significant medical event with the help of their families, physicians and health care professionals. To symbolize the end of their battle against adversity, honorees take a home run “lap” around the bases during an in-game ceremony.

“Each month during the baseball season, we are proud to partner with INTEGRIS Health to honor the perseverance and courage displayed by these incredible Oklahomans,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “’Home Run For Life’ allows us to uniquely recognize their amazing and inspiring stories of triumph over significant health challenges.”

While waiting for a heart transplant, Chappell was hospitalized in March 2021 after complications from a bout with asymptomatic COVID-19 in late 2020 that left him with internal bleeding.

He said the doctors put it plainly: “The only way to fix it is to put a new heart in you.”

Chappell, now 58, spent four months in the hospital waiting for his new heart, but he didn’t let that stop him from being productive. He had a desk set up in his hospital room allowing him to work remotely. Chappell didn’t miss a single paycheck

“Why not?” Chappell replied when asked about his desire to work from his room. “I’m not going to sit around here and dwell on being sick.”

Chappell became a regular at INTEGRIS Health, getting acquainted with many of the staff. He raves about the quality of care and company he received at INTEGRIS Health.

They’d been through the journey with me this whole time,” he said. “They’re great caregivers.”

In July 2021, everyone received the good news. Chappell was getting his new heart.

“I’m one of the fortunate ones,” he said.

To read Chappell’s full story, visit the OKC Dodgers’ “Beyond the Bricks” website at: medium.com/beyond-the-bricks.

BlueClaws Collecting Diapers at May 5th Game

April 26, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws are partnering with Child Care Resources on a Diaper Drive at the 6:35 pm game on Thursday, May 5th.

Fans can drop off diapers at the ballpark that night at a trailer along the third base concourse behind Section 110. The diapers will then be distributed throughout the Jersey Shore by Child Care Resources.

“There is indeed a strong need for diapers around the Jersey Shore and we’re happy to help collect diapers and raise awareness for the need,” said Jim McNamara, executive director of BlueClaws Charities. “We’re fortunate enough to work with a great organization in Child Care Resources and help them with their year-round efforts.”

Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers, to remain clean, dry, and healthy. Unlike other basic needs such as food and heat, there are no government ‘safety net’ programs that help families obtain diapers. Kim Perrelli, Executive Director of Child Care Resources explains that providing diapers to a family in need can lead to outcomes like “an increase in parental happiness and a reduction in stress. It also helps with the ability to spend income on other basic needs.”

Click here to order tickets for the May 5th game.

May 5th is also a Thirsty Thursday, presented by 95.9 WRAT. Fans can enjoy $2 Coors & Coors Light cans both in the Sand Bar and ballpark wide. The Thirsty Thursday Club provides fans with 10 undated tickets. These can be used in any denomination. Click here for additional information on the Thirsty Thursday Club or call 732-901-7000 option 3.

MiLB and the American Cancer Society to bring back annual cancer fighting initiative

April 26, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) today announced a multi-year renewal of its long-time partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS). The renewal will see a reprisal of the “Hope At Bat” program – a fundraising and awareness campaign in support of cancer research – for the first time since the 2019 season. The initiative will launch in June in support of National Cancer Survivors Month and continue through the remainder of the 2022 season in MiLB ballparks across the country.

“MiLB constantly strives to work with great partners and provide new opportunities to make a positive impact in our communities,” said Kurt Hunzeker, MLB’s Vice President of Minor League Business Operations. “Our long-standing partnership with American Cancer Society certainly has allowed us to help fight cancer nationwide by raising awareness and charitable donations for cancer research, and we are excited to start our next chapter together this season.”

As an Official Charity Partner of Minor League Baseball, ACS will have cancer survivors and caregivers participate in ceremonial first pitch events and fans and players will have the opportunity to create “I Go To Bat For….” cards as part of in-game tributes to those who are currently battling, or have previously battled cancer. All teams will be auctioning off two team autographed purple bats featuring the Hope At Bat logo with the proceeds from one bat going to a local cancer fighting organization and the other raising funds for ACS’ national campaign.

MiLB teams will hold a fundraiser on behalf of ACS to assist in their battle against cancer with local youth baseball and softball teams playing a part in the fundraising efforts. Any youth team that raises over $1,000 for ACS in the month of June will receive a special ballpark trip and experience with their local MiLB team.

Future years of the program will feature players wearing purple-themed attire during games to help honor and celebrate those who have fought cancer or are currently battling cancer, as well as a digital cancer assessment tool that fans can use to understand their cancer risk.

“We are very excited about working with MiLB, their teams and their local communities all across the country,” said Sheri Barros, Vice President of Sports Alliances for the American Cancer Society. “Hope at Bat is awareness with action, raising much needed funds and providing important information to the public about cancer risk. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Eric C. Leach, Hot Rods General Manager and COO, and Kyle Wolz, Assistant General Manager, received the award at the Warren County Public Library on behalf of the Hot Rods organization on Sunday. The Hot Rods have volunteered and partnered with local organizations like Boyz to Men, the Stuff the Bus Foundation, Kids on the Block, Norton Children’s Hospital, Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky, Norton Children’s Hospital, and numerous other charitable organizations.

All of the proceeds went to continued tornado relief efforts in the area.

“The community of Bowling Green has given us so much since we opened our gates in 2009,” Leach said. “We’ve been able to develop a beautiful ballpark downtown thanks to this amazing city and all the people in it. We’re incredibly honored and humbled to receive this award. It’s a testament to the hard work everyone at our organization has done and continues to do, to make sure we’re always trying our absolute best to be an active member of the community.”

Over 60 Zero Waste stations with directive signage have been installed throughout the stadium to help fans get their waste into the proper stream – Landfill, Compost, or Recycling. To educate and further engage fans, there are nightly PA announcements, radio spots, and several promotional elements tied to the zero waste efforts including a recycle-focused between inning promotion and Kids Zone games. In addition, there are dedicated waste reduction staff members called the

Green Team: One of the duties of this group is running the in-house sorting area which is located behind the right field bench seats. Sorting occurs during and after every home game in the “Compost Corner”. You will also see the Green Team wearing their Spokane County Regional Solid Waste branded shirts during the game on the inner concourse keeping the stadium clean, educating fans, and answering questions. During the 2021 season the diversion rate (recycling and compost waste that doesn’t go to a landfill) at Avista Stadium was 58%. In 2022 the Indians are looking to build on this success, switching several concession items to compostable containers and improving sorting practices.

ENERGY

The Spokane Indians have been conscious of energy usage since 2001 when game times were moved to 6:30 PM, taking advantage of natural light and reducing energy consumption. During the 2022 season Saturday games in April and May will start at 5:09 PM and all Sunday games (with the exception of the season finale) will start at 1:05 PM.

Solar panels were installed on the administrative building in 2013, and they have been providing power to the grid for over eight years now. In addition, the Spokane Indians participate in Avista Utilities programs centered around carob footprint reduction and investment in solar and other renewables. Most notably, the Spokane Indians have been a part of the Avista “My Clean Energy” program since 2010. A program that provides an avenue for customers to support renewable energy projects and offset their carbon footprint. To date, the Spokane Indians have contributed to an offset equivalent of 94.4 metric tons of CO per year.

The Spokane Indians are committed to working with Avista on improving the energy efficiency of Avista Stadium.

WATER

In 2017, the Spokane Indians Baseball team, together with the Spokane Tribe of Indians and City of Spokane introduced the Redband Rally Campaign in honor of Spokane’s signature fish, the native Redband Trout. This campaign is designed to bring awareness to the Redband trout’s habitat in the Spokane River while rallying the community to protect and keep the river clean.

To create a visible presence and to honor the native Redband trout, the baseball team introduced a new logo that is featured on apparel, signage, headbands, and artwork. In addition to in-stadium promotions, the Spokane Indians established the Redband Rally Fund to financially support local and regional projects that further the campaign’s mission. To date the fund has raised nearly $40,000 and helped to support several projects that improve Redband habitat and the health of the Spokane River.

You can help further our mission with a donation to the Redband Rally campaign through our partners at the Innovia Foundation, or by purchasing official Redband Rally merchandise as a portion of each sale is donated to the Redband Rally fund.

Sod Poodles, Fairly Group Announce 'Home Runs For Hope'

April 22, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

Amarillo, TX – The Amarillo Sod Poodles, Fairly Group, and Hope Choice are proud to partner for the 2022 season, providing Home Runs For Hope. For every Sod Poodles home run hit throughout the 2022 season, Fairly Group will donate $1,000 to Hope Choice.

Hope Choice is a ministry-based organization that offers services for individuals and families who are facing everyday struggles and cultural pressures. Hope Choice opened its doors in 1998 as a crisis pregnancy center and has since expanded its services to include mentoring programs as well as character-building programs in more than 90+ schools. Hope Choice and its school-based programs reach 24,000 students each month. Their mentoring groups are designed to teach character values and help build self-esteem in young people who face a variety of challenges in their daily lives.

“We exist to equip, mentor, and strengthen future generations”, said Hope Choice Executive Director, Candy Gibbs. “With programs from kindergarten through college and classes to equip moms and dads for every stage of life; we are seeing generations transformed daily. We are honored to serve our community alongside you and are thrilled to partner with the Sod Poodles for the 2022 season! Shield to shield! Go Soddies!”

“The Sod Poodles are excited to once again partner with the Fairly Group to raise awareness and funds for an incredible local charitable organization helping build and strengthen our panhandle community”, said Tony Ensor, President, and General Manager of the Sod Poodles. “A home run is one of the most exciting parts of a baseball game. It brings hope and joy to our fans just like Hope Choice works toward providing kids and young adults the resources to choose hope in every area of their lives.”

“It is not possible to adequately explain how Hope Choice has inspired our family personally, and our community for the last two decades,” said Alex Fairly, CEO of Fairly Group. “We are honored to help support the impact work they do.”

The Sod Poodles have already hit 17 home runs through 12 games in 2022, helping raise $17,000 for Hope Choice. During the eighth inning of every Sod Poodles home game this season, the team will update the current total ‘Home Runs For Hope’, and the amount of money raised to assist Hope Choice and its mission.

Welcome to clubphilanthropy.com!

Minor League Baseball clubs have been actively involved in their communities for many years. For the first time, their activities and contributions will be chronicled on this site.

Clubs don’t publicize all of their activity, so these stories represent a mere fraction of the contributions MiLB clubs make to their communities every year.
