Honored: Gades recognized for commitment to Veterans

October 18, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (October 18, 2022) – The Hudson Valley Renegades, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, were recognized for their dedication and commitment to veterans throughout the Hudson Valley at the Veterans of Foreign Wars state conference in Albany on Saturday, October 15.

The Renegades were honored for their Veteran of the Game program, sponsored by AARP New York. At each game from July through the end of the 2021 season, the Veteran of the Game program hosted active and retired military families and honored them with a special on-field ceremony and jersey presentation in the third inning.

“While we can never fully pay back the sacrifices that our veterans have made to ensure our freedom, the Veteran of the Game program was something special that we could do to show a small token of our appreciation,” said Marcella Costello, Renegades Community Partnerships Manager. “It was one of the most moving parts of our games, and we are looking forward to continuing the program for years to come.”

“AARP NY was proud to show our support for the brave men and women who serve our country through the Renegades’ Veteran of the Game program,” said Robyn Haberman, associate state director of Community Engagement for AARP. “There are so many selfless heroes deserving of recognition, and AARP is committed to not only helping tell their stories but to providing resources and information that empower them as well.”

The proclamation from the VFW states: “The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States express our sincere appreciation of your support to our veterans through community work of the Hudson Valley Renegades in honoring and highlighting local veterans at team events.”

The Renegades are committed to supporting veterans in the Hudson Valley in ways beyond the Veteran of the Game program, hosting an annual Veterans Appreciation Night, where the team re-brands as the Hudson Valley Veterans with military-inspired uniforms. Thousands of veterans in surrounding counties come to Dutchess Stadium for special pre-game ceremonies and the game that evening. The specialty jerseys are then auctioned off to support the Mental Health America of Dutchess County’s Vet2Vet program and their myriad services for local veterans.

Service to veterans was also a key cornerstone of the Renegades’ participation in the Yankees’ HOPE Week initiative (Helping Others Persevere & Excel). Renegades players, coaches and front office staff all visited the residents at Liberty Station in Poughkeepsie, a housing complex for veterans which offers a supportive living environment in the company of other vets.

RiverDogs Named “Small Business of Year” by Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce

July 22, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Charleston RiverDogs have been selected as the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s “Small Business of the Year”. The award is presented annually to an outstanding small business who has demonstrated value in community engagement, entrepreneurship, employee relations, leadership and performance.

“We are humbled to receive this honor from the Chamber of Commerce. As we work with many other small businesses in the Lowcountry on a daily basis, we know that there are a myriad of great candidates for an award like this,” said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “Our success is based in large part on our partnerships with other businesses in the area and the community that supports us every season.”

Following the cancellation of the 2020 season and significant restrictions for the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the RiverDogs have enjoyed an incredible bounce back year in 2022. Attendance figures are returning to pre COVID-19 numbers, and the Segra Club is exceeding expectations for booking special events, allowing the organization to launch the RiverDogs Food Truck, while also increasing the number of full time RiverDogs staff.

The 2022 campaign has also allowed the RiverDogs to return to active community engagement. The RiverDogs have quickly re-established their leadership role with area youth baseball programs, local military, diversity and inclusion initiatives, literacy and advocating for children’s health.

“We are thrilled to announce the Charleston RiverDogs as our 2022 Small Business of the Year,” said Bryan Derreberry, President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber. “The RiverDogs have had an incredible impact on our community and continue to demonstrate incredible leadership.”

The RiverDogs and other award recipients will be celebrated at The Honors event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, September 7 at the American Theater. Throughout the evening, the Chamber of Commerce will present The Honors Awards, honoring companies and individuals who have provided exceptional advancements to the Charleston region, including the prestigious Joseph P. From July 6-9, RiverDogs players and staff, as well as Breeze Airways team members, will be out in the community volunteering at various locations and working to spread niceness around the Holy City. The week will culminate at the RiverDogs 6:05 p.m. contest against the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday, July 9.

“As an organization, we are always looking for opportunities to support our community in the same way that they support us each season. The chance to have our players and staff visit several non-profits and spread niceness in the community over the next several days is something we are extremely excited about,” said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “Our partnership with Breeze Airways has been outstanding and we are happy to join with them over the next several days to do some good for the city of Charleston”.

The week commenced at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, July. The group played board games, air hockey and did arts and crafts with patients at the hospital.

On Thursday, July 7, the RiverDogs and Breeze Airways will continue the fun at Fisher House Charleston. The Fisher House provides temporary lodging for family members of Veterans who are receiving care at the Ralph A. Johnson VA Medical Center. From 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., players and staff members will host a backyard barbecue. The RiverDogs Food Truck will provide lunch while everyone stays entertained with traditional yard games including giant jenga and cornhole.

The niceness will continue at The Joe on Friday, July 8 when kids and staff members from Windwood Farms are welcomed to the ballpark for a Field Day in the outfield from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Players and coaches will join the children for games including a pizza box race, uniform dress-up relay and kickball. Early on Saturday, July 9 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the RiverDogs and Breeze Airways will be in RiverFront Park handing out Breeze Points, tickets to Saturday night’s game, merchandise and other fun gifts.

Everything will shift to The Joe during Saturday’s game, as fans in attendance will be on the receiving end of the niceness. In addition, Breeze will make a donation to each of the three non-profit organizations that were part of the volunteer events earlier in the week and give away one roundtrip flight to a lucky fan during each inning of the game. Following the contest, every fan in the ballpark will receive a bottle of bubbles and will send them airborne in unison along with Breeze.

Hope At Bat: Gades to host Hope At Bat game Wednesday

June 27, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Hudson Valley Renegades will host their Hope At Bat game on Wednesday, June 29 as part of MiLB’s partnership with the American Cancer Society.

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (June 27, 2022) – Beginning summer 2022, professional baseball teams will join forces again to positively impact communities all across America. Minor League Baseball (MiLB) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) have announced a multi-year renewal of their long-time partnership. The renewal will see a reprisal of the Hope At Bat program – a fundraising and awareness campaign in support of cancer research – for the first time since the 2019 season.

The Hope At Bat initiative is designed to increase overall cancer awareness and raise critical funds for cancer research, while positively impacting the fan experience and community connectivity at MiLB stadiums across the country. Hope At Bat aims to educate fans about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, as well as the importance of age-appropriate cancer screenings. All funding raised through the Hope At Bat program will support ACS’ cancer research efforts.

The Renegades will host their Hope At Bat game this week on Wednesday, June 29th vs. Brooklyn Cyclones. Hope At Bat takes place on a We Care Wednesday presented by Westchester Medical Center Heath Network (WMCHealth).

Two purple bats have been provided by MiLB, each to be signed by the team, one of which will be featured on the MiLB auction platform (with ACS as the beneficiary), and the other to be auctioned off locally with proceeds to benefit Gold Together. More details on the auction to follow.

Gold Together is the American Cancer Society initiative dedicated to increasing awareness of childhood cancer, supporting families facing a diagnosis, and raising funds to end childhood cancer. Funds raised directly support childhood cancer research, education, advocacy, and services, as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children to help them reduce their risk for cancer later in life.

The Gold Together movement was created by childhood brain cancer survivor Cole Eicher, whose dream was to have a Gold Together team at every Relay For Life event, starting with his event in St. Petersburg, Florida. His vision was to raise childhood cancer awareness, support families facing childhood cancer, and connect those families to a lifetime of resources through the American Cancer Society.

Donations can be made to Gold Together by visiting Gold Together Champions Northeast RegionHERE or by purchasing tickets at gadesgroups.com and using the password “acshv”.

  • “ThinkDIFFERENTLY” is a call to action, a genuine challenge to determine if we have it within ourselves to look past our differences and treat others the way we would hope to be treated. Too often, too many with special needs are overlooked and their unique abilities ignored. Instead, we seek to lift each other up and embrace all residents of all abilities. Launched by Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro in 2015, the “ThinkDIFFERENTLY” initiative seeks to change the way individuals, businesses, organizations and communities relate to our neighbors with special needs.

Sunday, June 12th – Fishkill Food Pantry

  • The Fishkill Food Pantry was established as a mission program in 1985 to assist individuals and families in the Southern Dutchess area who are coping with financial emergencies and supply basic food needs. The people served are often referred to the Pantry by social service agencies, churches, schools, and family advocates. The Pantry is the largest food pantry in Dutchess County, serving families in Beacon, Beekman, Chelsea, Cold Spring, Fishkill, Glenham, Hopewell Junction, Hughsonville, Stormville, and Wappingers Falls. The Renegades will provide donations in the morning to the food pantry and host a food drive during Sunday’s game.

The Renegades Community Program and their participation in HOPE Week is presented by WMCHealth. Throughout the week, the Renegades host the Jersey Shore BlueClaws for a seven-game series at The Dutch. RiverDogs to Host Conclusion of Youth Baseball Game Interrupted by Gunfire

April 28, 2022

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Charleston RiverDogs will host the conclusion of a youth baseball game that was interrupted by gunfire on May 3, the team announced on Thursday. The incident occurred at North Charleston’s Pepperhill Park on Monday evening. The North Charleston Recreation Royals and Angels will play the remainder of the game at 5:00 p.m. and enjoy a special night at the ballpark following their game. The 15U softball team that was practicing in the park at the time of the incident will also take part in the evening. Later, the RiverDogs host the Fayetteville Woodpeckers at 7:05 p.m.

“As a huge supporter of youth baseball, we felt that is was our responsibility to do something for these children that might help them move on from this traumatic experience”, said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “We have a tremendous opportunity, with what we do night in and night out, to help in difficult situations like these. Thankfully, with the help of the city of North Charleston and the North Charleston Recreation Department, we were able to put this special night together quickly.”

Major League Baseball is purchasing tickets to the game for all three youth teams, as well as hosting a post-game picnic for everyone involved. In addition, the Tampa Bay Rays are sending t-shirts and hats for the children. The Rays are the RiverDogs MLB affiliate.

“Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball were deeply saddened by the incident that took place Monday night and we are relieved that nobody was injured,” said Peter Woodfork, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of Minor League Operations and Development. “We are pleased that these children and their families will have an opportunity to finish this game at Joseph Riley Park prior to the RiverDogs hosting the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Tuesday. We hope the experience at The Joe will be a small step towards helping those involved in that frightening incident.”

The gates to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park will open one hour earlier than normal (5:00 p.m.) to accommodate fans who are interested in supporting the teams. A ticket is required for entry to the ballpark and will be good for both the youth baseball game and the RiverDogs contest. The nine and ten-year-olds making up the Royals and Angels will play a game from 5:00-6:00 p.m. During the game, members of the RiverDogs and Woodpeckers will interact with the children in the dugout and on the field.

Following their game, the youth teams, will enjoy the picnic as the RiverDogs take the field for their contest. Each team member has been invited to bring two additional family members to the game and the RiverDogs are donating two tickets to every youth baseball and softball player in the North Charleston Recreation Department system. RiverDogs Director of Community Outreach, Chris Singleton, will speak to the children during the post-game picnic.

“The RiverDogs are a true community partner. Following the events of Monday night affecting three of our youth athletic teams, the RiverDogs were among the first to reach out to offer support to the young players and their families,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. “Playing at The Joe will be a much needed positive and joyful experience for our kids.”

Tickets for all RiverDogs games are still available! Visit riverdogs.com to secure your seats now. Season tickets, Dog-E Coin plans, and group tickets, including options to the Segra Club at Riley Park, are already available at riverdogs.com/tickets or by contacting the RiverDogs front office at 843-577-3647 (DOGS). Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

*Bowling Green, Kentucky *– On Sunday, the Volunteers in Action executive committee recognized the Bowling Green Hot Rods as their 2022 Truist Spirit of Community Award winner. The Hot Rods join other local businesses and organizations that have won the award including Tony Rose, Crocker Law Firm, Houchens Industries, Chick-Fil-A, and American Legion – Post 23.

Eric C. Leach, Hot Rods General Manager and COO, and Kyle Wolz, Assistant General Manager, received the award at the Warren County Public Library on behalf of the Hot Rods organization on Sunday. The team has been involved in various community initiatives since its start in 2009. The Hot Rods have volunteered and partnered with local organizations like Boyz to Men, the Stuff the Bus Foundation, Kids on the Block, Norton Children’s Hospital, Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky, Norton Children’s Hospital, and numerous other charitable organizations.

Most recently, the Hot Rods jumped in to aid the community after the devastating tornados that laid waste to Bowling Green and the surrounding areas. The front office assisted in cleaning up from the storm’s damage while also spearheading a charity auction featuring items from all over the country that were donated by various sports teams, colleges, and organizations. On April 10, the team also had #BGStrong day where the Hot Rods wore special jerseys on the field which were auctioned off following the game. All of the proceeds went to continued tornado relief efforts in the area.

“The community of Bowling Green has given us so much since we opened our gates in 2009,” Leach said. “We’ve been able to develop a beautiful ballpark downtown thanks to this amazing city and all the people in it. We’re incredibly honored and humbled to receive this award. It’s a testament to the hard work everyone at our organization has done and continues to do, to make sure we’re always trying our absolute best to be an active member of the community.”

The Hot Rods have also taken on various causes at Bowling Green Ballpark during the season, including hosting an annual Easter Egg Hunt, hosting a community organization of the night at each game, and introducing the Bolidos de Bowling Green alternate identity to celebrate Hispanic heritage in the community.

The Hot Rods proudly accept the 2022 Truist Spirit of the Community award and can’t wait to continue their partnership and work with the South Central Kentucky community!
