Hooks Fans Donate Nearly $72,000 in 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Corpus Christi Hooks awarded over $70,000 this past season to several local non-profits through contributions made by fans towards the Astros Foundation Share2Care 50/50 raffle.

Non-profit recipients included CC RIMZ, Texas State Aquarium, Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana, Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, The Traveling Library, USO South Texas, Corpus Christi Police Officers Association & Corpus Christi Professional Firefighters Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart Foundation Chapter 598, Goodwill Industries of South Texas, Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas, Coastal Bend Food Bank and Rainbow Room.

“Thank you to our fans who make this possible, their support impacts more than just baseball as shown by the diversity of 50/50 raffle recipients in 2022,” Hooks General Manager Brady Ballard said. “The Astros Foundation Share2Care Raffle continues to be a gameday staple and creates a win-win experience for both our fans and the community.”

CC RIMZ promotes adaptive sports within the Coastal Bend. Texas State Aquarium aims to engage people with animals, inspire appreciation for our seas, and support wildlife conservation. The mission of Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation was created to expand awareness of his legacy and the continued relevance of his fight for equal rights for all. The Traveling Library provides knowledge to those in need by providing literature and other resources that are needed. USO South Texas serves NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Kingsville, connecting military service members to family, home and country.

The Corpus Christi Police Officers Association and Corpus Christi Professional Firefighters Association advocate for the safety and well-being of first responders and citizens through community action and support of local non-profit organizations. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Foundation Chapter 598 was formed for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration and offers youth programs focused on fostering patriotism and good citizenship among America’s youth. Goodwill Industries of South Texas provides job training, placement services, and other Coastal Bend-based programs for people who have barriers to their employment.

The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas promotes the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life through education, personal and professional development. Coastal Bend Food Bank fights hunger and promotes wellness through food distribution and nutrition education. Rainbow Room provides hope for abused and neglected children.

Chihuahuas & Locomotive Deliver Beds to Families in time for the Holidays

EL PASO, TEXAS – December 16, 2022 – Two weeks after building and assembling beds, the Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack and Locomotive Heart of Goal, both presented by Helen of Troy, are partnering with Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) El Paso Chapter to deliver beds to children of two El Paso families just in time for Christmas.

The team of volunteers will deliver beds to the Ramos and Lubreras families, respectively, tomorrow, Saturday, December 17 beginning at 10 a.m. Each of the families have three children and will receive bunk and single beds. The team will also set up the beds for the children. Each bed will take 15 minutes for set up.

The beds were built and assembled by Chihuahuas & Locomotive volunteers on December 3 at Southwest University Park. The build was the first of its kind in the El Paso area for SHP El Paso. As part of the volunteer event, the El Paso Chihuahuas and El Paso Locomotive Foundation donated $5,000 to purchase materials for beds.

SHP El Paso is currently taking bed request for families with children between the ages of three and 17 years of age. Families who wish to apply can visit https://shpbeds.org/chapter/tx-el-paso/. About Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace had its start like many other charities, in a garage. It was Christmas time, a time of joy and happiness, a time of giving and love, but also a time of bitter, cold weather and snowstorms. A project, that was started with the build of one bed for a single family developed into something a whole lot more. With wood left over from the first bunk, another idea was created. “Who else could benefit from this bunk”?

San Antonio Missions Recognized by Minor League Baseball with Best Community Event

SAN ANTONIO – Minor League Baseball announced on Monday the winners of the 2022 Golden Bobbleheads for top promotional activities and events in six categories. The San Antonio Missions were awarded the Golden Bobblehead for “Best Community Event” from the Uvalde Community Healing Night.

After the unspeakable tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, last May that took the lives of 21 students and teachers, the Missions immediately went into action, planning Uvalde Community Healing Night. The club worked with Uvalde city officials and the Uvalde Superintendent’s office to plan a memorable night for the Uvalde community that featured the Missions wearing uniforms that were replicas of Uvalde High School’s baseball uniforms.

The Uvalde High School baseball team joined the Missions on the field for a pregame team picture, and the game was attended by nearly 2,000 more fans than the Missions’ nightly average. The Missions won the game on a walk-off base hit and the families of the two slain teachers joined the team on the field for a moment of prayer and reflection after the win. The Missions auctioned off the game-used uniforms and raised $50,357, which was donated to the Robb Elementary Memorial Fund to assist the families of the victims. The club provided the Uvalde superintendent with a framed team-signed jersey that will be included in a tribute to Robb Elementary.

“This award really caps the event for what we were trying to do, which was put the spotlight on the community of Uvalde,” said Missions General Manager Dave Gasaway. “We wanted to do something for that community and having a lot of them join us at the ballpark and many of them told us it was the first time since the incident that had been able to smile, which really meant a lot to us.”

Chihuahuas & Locomotive to Build and Assemble Beds for Area Children and Families for the Holiday

EL PASO, TEXAS – November 30, 2022 – The Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack and Locomotive Heart of Goal, presented by Helen of Troy, will help make a child’s holiday brighter as they partner with Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) El Paso Chapter to build, assemble, and deliver bunk beds to children and families in need.

The build will take place Saturday, December 3, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Southwest University Park. The event marks the first of its kind for the SHP El Paso Chapter.

“It is a privilege to have our baseball and soccer staffs contribute their time and efforts to such a needed cause,” said MountainStar Sports Group Sr. Vice President and Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor. “We are proud to work alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace here in El Paso to help our community.”

Founded by Luke and Heidi Michelson in 2012, Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a 501(c)(3) organization that builds and delivers beds to children who do not have beds to sleep in. What stared as one bed for a family during the holiday season turned into requests from other families along with volunteers willing to donate time and money. Since its inception, the organization has grown to more than 270 chapters in the United States and across Canada, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.

“I am excited about El Paso’s first bed build and excited that we are going to be building them at such an iconic place and with an iconic organization that represents joy and hope in El Paso,” said Brian Carter, Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter founder and president. “I hope this is a day of momentum that sparks lots of interest in building and giving beds for El Paso children. No child sleeps on the floor in our town.”

As part of the volunteer event, the El Paso Chihuahuas and El Paso Locomotive Foundation donated $5,000 to purchase materials for Saturday’s build.

The Chihuahuas and Locomotive front offices contribute more than 200 hours annually in volunteer hours via their respective volunteer groups. They have each volunteered at the Animal Shelter walking dogs, Rebuilding Together El Paso repairing homes, and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, to name a few.

Space Cowboys to Present Check to Candlelighters on Sept. 2

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) *– The *Sugar Land Space Cowboys today announced they will be presenting a $17,805 check to Candlelighters during their game on Sept. 2 at *Constellation Field, *raised from jersey auctions throughout the season.

The Space Cowboys raised their highest dollar amount and more than doubled their previous high through jersey auctions benefitting Candlelighters. The Space Cowboys have held jersey auctions benefitting Candlelighters with the help of Constellation since the franchise debuted in 2012.

“Constellation is proud to support the wonderful mission and work of Candlelighters, which has a tremendous impact on families providing support in times of great need,” said Kevin Klages, senior vice president of mass markets for Constellation. “Our employees have energetically rallied and raised funds, including through brisket sales and sheer ingenuity. Thank you Candlelighters for your tireless work to support families in our community.”

Board members from Candlelighters will be on hand to receive the check from a Space Cowboys representative during their Sept. 2 game vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes, with a first pitch of 7:05 p.m.

Round Rock Express to Host “End the Stigma Night” on July 27

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express are set to host End the Stigma Night, on Wednesday, July 27 at Dell Diamond as the Express take on the Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants) at 7:05 p.m. The night will highlight the importance of mental health and self-wellness as former Express outfielder and current Mental Health Advocate for the San Francisco Giants, Drew Robinson, will discuss his journey after surviving a suicide attempt and how we need to “End the Stigma,” surrounding mental health. Robinson will speak to the crowd from the top of the dugout before the game begins.

“I’m so excited to return to Dell Diamond, which is where I spent so much of my time growing not only as a baseball player, but as a person,” Robinson said. “To be able to share my story with everyone at the stadium that welcomed and embraced me throughout my time spent there, through the ups and downs, is something not many players get the opportunity to do. I’m incredibly excited to come share my story and some lessons learned since my attempt in April 2020 with such a meaningful environment to me.”

Robinson will speak to the crowd 15 minutes before the game starts. Fans in attendance will be able to purchase an “End the Stigma” t-shirt, with proceeds benefitting the Better U Foundation.

Robinson’s story was detailed in the 60-minute film, “Alive: The Drew Robinson Story,” which aired in May of 2021 as part of ESPN’s “E:60” series and won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Journalism. The documentary describes how Robinson survived 20 hours after attempting to take his own life.

Robinson was a fourth-round selection by the Texas Rangers in 2010 and he appeared in 100 games in the major leagues. Over the course of 2017 and 2018, Robinson appeared in 95 games for Texas and spent time with the Express from 2014-2018. He retired from baseball in July 2021 and continues to promote his message of self-love across the country.

“We’re thrilled to have our old friend Drew Robinson back at Dell Diamond,” Express President Chris Almendarez said. “He has overcome so much in his life and his message of positivity and strength will be incredibly powerful for our fans to hear.”

Frisco announces winners of RoughRiders Scholarship Program presented by InTouch

FRISCO, Texas (July 1, 2022) – The Frisco RoughRiders and InTouch Credit Union are thrilled to announce the 10 recipients of the RoughRiders Scholarship Program presented by InTouch for the class of 2022.

“InTouch’s commitment to the community directly led to their partnership with our scholarship program and their unwavering support of our organization has been phenomenal,” said RoughRiders President and General Manager Victor Rojas. “On behalf of the entire organization, we are ecstatic to award these amazing students with scholarships as they further their education.”

Chihuahuas Launch “Fetch the FUNdraiser” with ADP to Benefit Humane Society of El Paso

EL PASO – June 28, 2022 – The El Paso Chihuahuas have partnered with ADP to launch “Fetch the FUNdraiser,” benefiting the Humane Society of El Paso. Fetch the FUNdraiser runs now through July 18.

The Chihuahuas and ADP are asking fans to donate a minimum of $5. Donations are being collected via text-to-donate by texting “FETCH” to 844-311-5007.

“We are proud to partner with ADP to raise funds for the Humane Society of El Paso,” said Brad Taylor, MountainStar Sports Group Senior Vice President and Chihuahuas General Manager. “The care the Humane Society provides is important to the lives of these local animals.”

Funds from the Fetch the FUNdraiser program will go towards purchasing blankets, toys, and supplies requested by the Humane Society. For every $5 raised, the El Paso Chihuahuas will donate an additional toy or leash.

“The generous donations of our community impact our shelter in many ways. With over 150 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens currently residing at our facility, we rely on donors to help support our animals and programs providing enrichment and care,” said Tayler Quintana, Humane Society Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator.

Fans who make a monetary donation of $5 or more will be entered-to-win one of five Chihuahuas Prize packs. For every $5 donation, a fan will receive one enter-to-win ($10=2 entries, $15=3 entries, etc.).

Along with the Fetch the FUNdraiser program, the Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack, presented by Helen of Troy, will volunteer at the Humane Society alongside ADP employees on Friday, July 22.

The Humane Society of El Paso (HSEP) is a no-kill animal shelter in El Paso operating for the purpose of building a better community for all animals through adoptions, education, foster care, volunteer work, and community events according to the website.

“Without the help of our community, we would not be able to do what we do,” said Quintana. “Our community is an integral part of helping to rehabilitate and rehome the animals under our care.”

About the Humane Society of El Paso

The Humane Society of El Paso (HSEP) is the oldest and largest no-kill animal shelter in the City and County of El Paso, Texas and have remained in continuous operation for more than 70 years for the purpose of building a better community for all animals through adoptions, education, foster-care, volunteer work and community events. The organization is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and does not receive any funding from the City or County of El Paso, the State of Texas or the federal government. In 2021, HSEP cared for nearly 2,000 shelter animals, and our adoption counselors placed 1,698 dogs and cats into loving homes. Our volunteer foster families cared for an additional 1,217 animals. In addition, more than 3,000 cats and kittens were spayed/neutered through our Mary Speer Program for Community (feral) Cats.

Missions Announce Amount Raised from Uvalde Jersey Fundraiser

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions Baseball Club is proud to announce that the Uvalde Jersey Fundraiser Event on Thursday, June 16th raised $50, 357. All of the money raised will go towards the Robb School Memorial Fund.

Donations began at 10 a.m. Thursday morning with the option of placing call-in bids. Beginning at 6 p.m., fans at Nelson Wolff Stadium were able to bid on the jersey and various items at an auction table inside the third base gate.

Bidding ended 15 minutes after the final out was recorded. The Missions also had options for individual donations throughout the game. During the third inning, a “Pass-the-Hat” occurred throughout the seating bowl, giving fans multiple opportunities to donate.

The San Antonio Missions hosted the Amarillo Sod Poodles for Thursday night’s game. The Missions defeated Amarillo 4-3 after a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning.

A Robb School Memorial Fund is held locally at First State Bank to support the families and community affected by the tragedy. Donate at https://onestarfoundation.org/uvalde/ to support the local fund.

The San Antonio Missions are the Double-A affiliate for the San Diego Padres. This is the 120th professional season for the San Antonio Missions. Sugar Land Space Cowboys Host 200 Kids for Play Ball Weekend

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) – The Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Saturday morning hosted 200 kids from the Houston area for a baseball clinic at Constellation Field.

The Space Cowboys held the baseball clinic as part of PLAY BALL Weekend. All 120 Minor League Baseball clubs hosted either a PLAY BALL clinic, Pitch, Hit & Run and Jr. Home Run Derby competitions, youth baseball and softball tournaments, or games and events involving local Challenger Baseball leagues and Miracle League programs.

Space Cowboys manager Mickey Storey, development coach Wladimir Sutil, strength coach Zach Reding, bullpen catcher Caleb Nunes and video coordinator Garrett Allen helped run kids from the Houston area through hitting, pitching, fielding and agility circuits throughout Constellation Field.

PLAY BALL events were also held by all 30 Major League teams, as well as other select locations on all seven continents.

Missions to Host Jersey Auction to Benefit Uvalde

Missions will wear Uvalde Coyote High School Jerseys to be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Robb School Memorial Fund

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions Baseball Club, in partnership with Wilson Sporting Goods and the Uvalde CISD, will wear custom Uvalde baseball jerseys on Thursday, June 16th. These on-field jerseys will be auctioned off during and following the game with the proceeds being donated to the Robb School Memorial Fund.

The jersey design is a replica of the jerseys worn by the Uvalde Coyotes High School baseball team, and is being supplied by Wilson Sporting Goods. Wilson’s extraordinary efforts in making what is normally a two-month process work in less than two weeks to produce the jerseys was vital in making the event to benefit the Uvalde community happen.

“Uvalde has special meaning for the Missions. Wolff Stadium has hosted numerous groups outings and even Coyote Baseball playoff games,” said Missions President Burl Yarbrough. “Anything we as an organization can do in this awful situation to help provide for the Uvalde community, we are honored to do so.”

Fans in attendance of the Missions game versus the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Thursday, June 16 will be able to bid throughout the game on the Uvalde jerseys worn by the Missions. The auction will conclude 15 minutes following the game’s final out.

“On behalf of the entire Uvalde CISD, we express our gratefulness for the support of the San Antonio Missions,” said Uvalde CISD Superintendent, Dr. Hal Harrell. “We are heartbroken at the innocent lives lost. The Uvalde CISD Administration, staff, and families will forever be thankful for the generous support of the community and nation. We believe in ourselves, pray for a brighter future, and together we are #Uvaldestrong.”

The Surge hosts PLAY BALL Initiative in conjunction with League 42

The Wichita Wind Surge announced today they will participate in MLB’s PLAY BALL initiative in conjunction with Wichita’s League 42. The PLAY BALL initiative is baseball’s collective effort to encourage young people and communities to engage in baseball or softball-related activities, including formal leagues, special events and casual forms of play.

The League 42 game, hosted by the Wind Surge, is free and open to the public and will feature in-game promotions, live music, giveaway items, and more. Meals will be provided for over 600 youth athletes in attendance. The event will take place on Saturday, June 11 at 4:00pm at McAdams Park, located at 17th and Wabash.

“League 42 is a strong supporter of youth baseball, especially for kids who otherwise might not have an opportunity to participate,” said Bob Lutz, Executive Director of League 42. “The PLAY BALL Initiative is a great way to make the game of baseball more accessible to kids. We appreciate the Wind Surge’s strong and continued support of League 42.”

The Wichita Wind Surge Continues Tornado Relief Support

The Surge announces school supply drive through the end of August

Continuing the season long support for those impacted by the Andover Tornado, the Wichita Wind Surge will host a school-supply drive with donations earmarked for the students of Andover’s Prairie Creek Elementary School.

During home games between May 31 and the end of August, fans can bring donations to Guest Services, located behind Section 10. Those unable to attend a Wind Surge game may drop off donations at the Box Office, located on McLean Blvd. Those donating will receive a free berm ticket for a future 2022 regular season Wind Surge game.

“We want to give everyone an opportunity to help the students and teachers at Andover’s Prairie Creek Elementary School in any way they can,” said Bob Moullette, Director of Fan Experience. “Donations of pens, paper, folders, and other supplies will go a long way in replacing the items that were lost in the tornado and they will help send the message that we are all one community that supports each another.”

Accepted school supplies include: notebook paper, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, markers, rulers, backpacks, Clorox wipes, baby wipes, dry erase markers, folders, and scissors.

Donations must be new in their original unopened packaging; backpacks can be new or gently used.
