BlueClaws to Honor Fallen Heroes on Military Appreciation Night

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws will host their annual Military Appreciation Night, presented by OceanFirst Bank, on Thursday, July 7th, but this year, the night takes on an extra-special meaning as the team honors and hosts the families of New Jersey’s fallen heroes, military members that lost their lives in service to America.

During the game, BlueClaws players will be wearing special jerseys, each featuring the name of a fallen hero on the back. After the game, each BlueClaws player will present their jersey to the Gold Star family members in an on-field ceremony.

“These heroes mark the best of us,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “They have given their lives in support of the nation they serve. It is our honor to recognize their heroic achievements and the sacrifices of their families.”

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the ballpark for a series of pre-game festivities including a wreath ceremony through which one wreath will be presented on behalf of each branch of the United States Military. There will also be a parade featuring members of the 87th FSS Youth Program from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, and an honor guard featuring a local chapter from Disabled American Veterans.

The night also includes a Troop Supply Drive. Fans are encouraged to donate razors, snacks, baby wipes, shampoo, soap, non-chocolate candies and sweets, sun block with SPF 40+, lip balm, writing utensils, silly string, deodorant, tissues, q-tips, white socks, batteries, insect repellent, and flashlights. This supply and care package drive is in conjunction with the Monmouth-Ocean Central Labor Council Military Committee, Monmouth-Ocean Building Trade Council, National Guard, Toms River Armory, A.R.M.S, and IBEW Local 400 Military Committee.

Donation locations will be set up outside the ballpark for fans to drop off their items.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs to introduce “Pigs Care” Program

IronPigs and Air Products team up to incorporate program that will work with fans with non-visible disabilities

Allentown, Pennsylvania (16 June 2022) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, together with Air Products, are introducing the “Pigs Care” Program at Coca-Cola Park. The “Pigs Care” Program is designed to better help all fans to be able to fully enjoy their experience at Coca-Cola Park.

The “Pigs Care” program provides the opportunity for any guest with an invisible or visible disability to stop at the Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence Guest Services window at Coca-Cola Park to receive a “Pigs Care” lanyard. While the guest utilizes Coca-Cola Park and its services, IronPigs employees will be able to discreetly help and assist those with lanyards and provide an additional amount of assistance, understanding and patience during the guest’s trip to the ballpark.

Many guests who have non-visible disabilities live and face barriers often in their daily lives, including a lack of understanding and negative attitudes. Fans can now choose to wear the “Pigs Care” lanyard to discreetly identify that they may need support, help or just a little more time in the merchandise store, in line at concession stands or perhaps reaching their seats.

The “Pigs Care” Program is believed to be the first of its kind in both Major League and Minor League Baseball. Non-visible disabilities may include autism, chronic pain, and learning difficulties as well as mental health conditions, severe anxieties, sensory loss, speech impairments and respiratory conditions. Although you may not be able to see these invisible impairments and conditions, they still exist and impact a significant size of the population.

BlueClaws to Host Free PLAY BALL Weekend Clinic on June 10th

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws, in conjunction with Major League Baseball’s PLAY BALL Weekend will host a free clinic under the lights at ShoreTown Ballpark on Friday, June 10th from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. Players will receive entry-level instruction designed for players between the ages of 5 and 12.

Registration is free but must be made online in advance of the event. CLICK HERE to register for this PLAY BALL Weekend clinic. Registration begins at 6:00 pm and the clinic will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

PLAY BALL Weekend is a Major League Baseball initiative to promote the games of baseball and softball to youth across the MLB and MiLB markets. Youth are encouraged to learn more about the games and will be provided opportunities to gain new skills in a fun environment.

Attendees will be split into groups and rotation among several stations. Stations include home run derby, pop-ups and grounders, agilities, base-running, and a bat & ball game.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – BlueClaws baseball is for everyone! That continues to be the team’s message as the BlueClaws prepare for their third Pride Night, to be held on Friday, June 3rd. Pride Night at ShoreTown Ballpark is presented by Coca-Cola.

The BlueClaws held their first Pride Night, presented by Coca-Cola, in 2019 in front of a capacity, sold-out crowd, and despite pandemic-restrictions, held another successful event in 2021.

“We consider ourselves to be a very open and inclusive organization and proud member of the community,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “We want to show the LGBT community that they are, and always will be, welcome at BlueClaws games!”

Register Today for BlueClaws Youth Baseball Camp

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – BlueClaws Youth Baseball camps return in 2022 and young players will receive professional-level instruction on the ShoreTown Ballpark field across four different sessions this summer.

Youth Baseball Camps are presented by Rothman Orthopaedics, the official team physicians of the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

Camp, designed for young players ages 6-12, runs from 9 am until 12 noon each day. Additionally, registration includes a BlueClaws game ticket and participation in a pre-game parade at the game.

“This is an event were are most excited to bring back after being unable to host camp over the last few years,” said Kayla Reilly, BlueClaws Director of Events & Operations. “We have four great sessions and the young players will learn in a professional environment right on the same field on which the BlueClaws play!”

Allentown, Pennsylvania (29 April 2022) – Signups are now underway for the 2022 Youth Baseball Camp presented by Capital BlueCross! Make sure to sign up early because each camp is limited to 110 children and each is expected to sell out!

The camps will run from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for all days of the session. Boys and girls of all skill levels will have the chance to learn baseball and fundamentals from future stars of the Philadelphia Phillies. Each day, members of the IronPigs coaching staff and select IronPigs players will teach the basics of the game and help all campers become better ballplayers!

Touch-a-Truck Returns to FirstEnergy Stadium

(Reading, PA) – FirstEnergy Stadium is excited to host the Junior League of Reading’s Annual Touch-a-Truck Event! On Saturday, May 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, families will have the opportunity to check out unique local vehicles, including trucks, race cars, motorcycles, safety vehicles and more, from all across the region, plus visit a variety of vendor tables, including ballpark food!

This year’s Touch-A-Truck will host a sensory friendly hour from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for children with autistic spectrum disorders and those requiring a quieter environment. At this exclusive hour, all trucks, cars, and emergency vehicles will not utilize their horns and sirens.

Touch-a-Truck is a hands-on learning experience for children to explore a variety of large trucks, heavy machinery, recreation vehicles, farm equipment, emergency vehicles, motorcycles and much more! Children of all ages are welcome to the event, which will also feature additional family-friendly entertainment, children’s activities, and more.

BlueClaws Collecting Diapers at May 5th Game

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws are partnering with Child Care Resources on a Diaper Drive at the 6:35 pm game on Thursday, May 5th.

Fans can drop off diapers at the ballpark that night at a trailer along the third base concourse behind Section 110. The diapers will then be distributed throughout the Jersey Shore by Child Care Resources.

“There is indeed a strong need for diapers around the Jersey Shore and we’re happy to help collect diapers and raise awareness for the need,” said Jim McNamara, executive director of BlueClaws Charities. “We’re fortunate enough to work with a great organization in Child Care Resources and help them with their year-round efforts.”

Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers, to remain clean, dry, and healthy. Unlike other basic needs such as food and heat, there are no government ‘safety net’ programs that help families obtain diapers. Kim Perrelli, Executive Director of Child Care Resources explains that providing diapers to a family in need can lead to outcomes like “an increase in parental happiness and a reduction in stress. It also helps with the ability to spend income on other basic needs.”

Home Runs For Heroes Reaches Half-Million in Donations

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – When DJ Stewart homered on Saturday onto the grass berm above the left field wall at ShoreTown Ballpark, it meant far more than the first BlueClaws home run of the year, and Stewart’s 16th professional home run. This particular blast brought OceanFirst Foundation’s donations to $500,000 in the history of the Home Runs for Heroes Program.

Home Runs for Heroes, which began in 2009, pairs military-based non-profit charities and charitable programs with each of the nine innings in a game. Each BlueClaws home run hit at ShoreTown Ballpark means a $1,000 donation for the corresponding organization(s). Since select innings have multiple organizations tied in, some home runs, including Stewart’s on Saturday, generate $2,000 in donations.

“OceanFirst Foundation is excited to be back for a 14th season of Home Runs for Heroes alongside our long-time partners – the Jersey Shore BlueClaws and Townsquare Media. This year, we have 14 amazing charity partners that serve our nation’s military heroes and veterans in times of need,” said Katherine Durante, Executive Director of the OceanFirst Foundation. “We are honored to be able to give back to our heroes through this program and wish the BlueClaws another record-breaking season!”

Stewart’s home run came in the fourth inning, raising $1,000 each for both Chariot Riders and the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund.

The BlueClaws and the Girl Scout of the Jersey Shore announced a continuation of their community partnership that is headed by Girl Scout Family Night, set for Friday, June 17th. Thousands of Girl Scouts of all ages, their families, and friends will participate in the evening that will feature activities that showcase programming offered by the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the impact those programs make in girls’ lives.

“Friendship, adventure, and making a difference are hallmarks of the Girl Scout experience. At Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, we have welcomed 2,500 new members and are serving over 10,000 total members in Monmouth and Ocean County. ‘Fightin Cancer’ Night with Phillies PA Announcer Dan Baker!

 

(Reading, PA) – The Reading Fightin Phils are pleased to host ‘Fightin Cancer’ Night at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday, May 25th. The stadium voice of the Phillies and cancer survivor Dan Baker will make an appearance as the R-Phils will honor and support the Darren Daulton Foundation throughout the night. Fans have the opportunity to pay tribute to their own loved ones by participating in the specialty ‘Fightin Cancer’ jersey program.

The R-Phils are proud to stand up and raise money and awareness for one of baseball’s most important fights. This night allows all types of cancer and all different battles to be recognized. We encourage our fans to join us in championing these fighters.

The Cancer Awareness jerseys the R-Phils will wear on May 25th will recognize all forms of cancer that individuals battle. The FIRST 25 families and friends that purchase 20 or more tickets for reserved seating or a picnic area for the May 25th game will have the opportunity to have a loved one represented during the game for no additional charge. The specialty jerseys will be personalized with the honoree’s name on the back. Players will receive a photo and bio of the honoree they are representing on the field. A special post-game jersey ceremony will take place with the 25 jersey honorees receiving their game-worn jersey on the field. If the honoree is present, they will receive the jersey. If the honoree has passed, the family will receive the jersey.

Dan Baker, best known for his public address announcing at Veterans Stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, and Citizens Bank Park, will be in attendance for a Meet and Greet. He will throw out a ceremonial first pitch and address the crowd. Baker is the longest tenured announcer in Major League Baseball. 2022 represents his 50th season after postponing the milestone due to his cancer and radiation treatment. He had a long stay in the hospital recovering, especially working to regain strength in his voice. After receiving cancer-free scans, the Phillies announced they would induct Baker to their prestigious Wall of Fame.

The R-Phils have been consistent supporters of the Darren Daulton Foundation, whose mission is to provide financial support to families that are experiencing financial challenges due to treatment of a malignant primary brain tumor diagnosis. Former Fightin Darren “Dutch” Daulton underwent surgery to fight his glioblastoma. He put up a strong fight against cancer after going into remission once, and created this group to help others afflicted by the same disease. He will always be remembered as a giving and loving family member, friend, and teammate. The foundation helps his memory lives on this way. Daulton played 113 games in Baseballtown in 1983.

Black History Month: Highlighting Some of the Best Black Players to Play for the BlueClaws

 

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – In celebration of Black History Month, throughout February, teams across Minor League Baseball are taking a look back at some of the best Black players to suit up for their club. While some of these standout performers went on to long and illustrious Major League careers, others simply had great Minor League careers or, in some cases, just one incredible season that went down as “a year for the ages.” Here is a look at some of the best Black baseball players ever to suit up for the BlueClaws.

Ryan Howard played for the BlueClaws in 2002 after being drafted by the Phillies the year prior from Southeast Missouri State. With the BlueClaws, Howard hit 19 home runs in 2002 and came back for rehab assignments in 2007, 2010, and 2012. In 2010, the BlueClaws retired his number 29. Howard and Cole Hames (#19) are the only BlueClaws to have their numbers retired by the team.

After leaving the BlueClaws, Howard won the 2005 National League Rookie of the Year and 2006 National League MVP. He helped the Phillies win the World Series in 2008.

Michael Bourn played for the BlueClaws in 2004. Drafted by the Phillies out of the University of Houston, he played for the BlueClaws in 2004, stealing 57 bases while hitting .317. He hit .266 over an 11 year Major League career with the Phillies, Astros, Indians, Braves, Diamondbacks, and Orioles and stole 341 big league bases. Bourn led the National League in stolen bases in 2009 (61), 2010 (52), and 2011 (61) while twice making the All-Star Game.

As a landlord, he waived rents for his tenants during the early COVID-shutdown period in 2020. You can read more about that here.

Quintin Berry was drafted by the Phillies in 2006 out of San Diego State. He spent 2007 with the BlueClaws, stealing 55 bases and hitting .312. Eventually, he made his big league debut with the Tigers in 2012 and played for four different major league teams, winning a World Series title with the Red Sox in 2013.

He is currently the first base coach for the Brewers.

Anthony Gose broke Berry’s team stolen base record when he swiped 76 bases in 96 attempts with the BlueClaws in 2009. Playing for manager Dusty Wathan, Gose was the everyday leadoff hitter and centerfielder and helped the BlueClaws win the franchise’s second championship that season. Gose also homered leading off the bottom of the first inning in Game One of the SAL Championship Series, a series the BlueClaws won 3-1 over the Greenville Drive. Gose went back to pitching in an attempt to make it back to MLB, and after playing for the US Olympic team last summer, returned to the big leagues with the Cleveland Guardians in September.

Jiwan James played for the BlueClaws in 2010, hitting .270 with 33 stolen bases and played a spectacular centerfield. He helped the BlueClaws win the 2010 South Atlantic League title, their third in team history and second straight. After reaching Double-A with the Phillies, James played one year in the Tigers system and is now a youth baseball coach in his home state of Florida. JP Crawford is still the only high school draftee to play for the BlueClaws in the year he was drafted. Taken in the first round of the 2013 draft, he made his BlueClaws debut that August. Crawford’s home debut came on August 20, 2013, the day Roy Halladay made a rehab appearance for the BlueClaws. Crawford came back to the BlueClaws for the first half of the 2014 season where he hit .295 with 14 stolen bases. After being named to the SAL All-Star Game, he was promoted at the all-star break that season. He is currently the shortstop for the Seattle Mariners.

IronPigs to Host Weeklong Job Fair

 

IronPigs are seeking hard-working, baseball loving, customer service-oriented individuals to join their team for another season!

Allentown, Pennsylvania (21 February 2022) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will be hosting a weeklong job fair from Monday, February 28 through Friday, March 4 from 4-6 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park. Interviews will be held in person or on zoom.

The benefits of working with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs include a family/fun environment, the opportunity to work in sports, and a flexible schedule!

Select departments will be interviewing for seasonal positions including Food & Beverage, Ticketing, Housekeeping, Ushers, Grounds Crew and more. Opportunities to work indoor, outdoor, and part time will be available. These jobs include the opportunity to work the 75 IronPigs home baseball games as well as other special events taking place at the ballpark between April and September. The IronPigs are also accepting applications from 14-year-old and 15-year-olds for food and beverage positions.

Fans and Players to Join Together for Celebrate Your Faith Nights!

 

(READING) – Minor League players from all over acknowledge their faith as a significant part of their journey to the Major Leagues. They are no different from the average person who tries to embody faith throughout their daily lives including all the highs and lows. The Reading Fightin Phils will host three different Celebrate Your Faith nights during the 2022 season. The first will take place on Thursday, June 16th, with two others scheduled for Thursday, July 14th, and Thursday, August 4th. Each Faith Night concludes with a spectacular post-game firework show.

On Celebrate Your Faith nights at FirstEnergy Stadium, players and fans come together to reflect on the impact that their respective faiths have had on their journeys. This is a great opportunity to see how faith moves throughout life. Sports offer a lot of joy and a lot of stress and fans can see how players utilize their belief system to handle daily challenges in the face of adversity and show true thanks in triumph.

A faith discussion will take place, where fans will have the opportunity to listen to players speak about its impact in their lives and careers. Fans are encouraged to participate in the question-and-answer session that will last for about 20 minutes. Typically two to four R-Phils athletes take part in the discussion.

The discussions are non-denominational and do not promote any specific beliefs. All faiths are welcome, and the room is often a mixed congregation. R-Phils players began speaking about their faith with fans during the 2003 season when about a dozen fans/groups took part in the program. The 2022 season will be the 18th year of the program’s existence.

“Celebrate Your Faith nights have become a fun forum for Reading Fightin Phils fans to learn about the lives of professional baseball players and how they are able to incorporate their faith into a lifestyle that makes it very difficult to stay connected with their friends, family, and their places of worship,” said Joe Bialek, Reading Fightin Phils Executive Director of Sales. Bialek moderates the discussions on Celebrate Your Faith Nights, and is also the liaison between the team and Baseball Chapel.

Groups of 20 or more are encouraged to book an outing to celebrate the evening with their church, youth group, or friends in faith. As a special bonus, each church may select one representative to throw out a free ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.
