Strike Out Cancer Night Goes Online with the Threshers

May 14, 2020

Clearwater, Fla. – The Clearwater Threshers and the American Cancer Society teamed up in 2019 for the inaugural Strike Out Cancer Night, an evening of awareness and fundraising during a Threshers game.

Now in 2020, COVID-19 forced the American Cancer Society to suspend its popular Relay For Life events. Volunteers and survivors lost a chance to emotionally connect with the community. ACS lost a chance to extend its funding for research and patient services. Now it searches for new ways to fuel its fight against cancer.

The Threshers are providing a unique virtual opportunity and the American Cancer Society could not be more pleased. Cancer doesn’t quit, so neither will ACS. And neither will the Threshers.

Since we can’t be together in person, here are a couple ways we can help Strike Out Cancer, online. 1. Donate – visit the Clearwater Threshers Relay For Life of North Pinellas page 2. Share a photo of yourself holding a sign with the name of a loved one you are honoring. You may download a purple Threshers sign to print, or make your own and add to our Facebook and Twitter posts.

Be sure to stop by our Facebook page on Saturday night at 8 p.m. for a special Strike Out Cancer message from the Threshers and the American Cancer Society.

Clearwater Parks and Rec. with Phillies Florida Serve Lunch After Hurricane Irma

September 15, 2017

The City of Clearwater Parks and Rec along with Phillies Florida Operations, fed hundreds of city employees and emergency volunteers lunch this week at Spectrum Field during the recovery from Hurricane Irma.

The Phillies had the inventory available at the park and the city provided volunteers to assist. Many of the people enjoying a warm hamburger or hot dog were without power at home themselves.

During times of need in our community, the Phillies are grateful to work with such amazing partners like the City of Clearwater and are thankful for the safety of the families in our organization.

RCS Pinellas and the Threshers Hit a Home Run for Families in Need

August 10, 2017

CLEARWATER, Fla. – RCS Pinellas and the Clearwater Threshers are teaming up to serve families and those in need in Pinellas County. On Monday, August 14, Threshers players will be volunteering at the RCS Food Bank in Clearwater in support of the RCS mission to feed the hungry, help families facing homelessness return to self-sufficiency, and empower survivors of domestic violence.

“How incredibly generous and kind of the Threshers to take time away from their busy season to join us in our daily fight against hunger in our community,” said Kirk Ray Smith, BHS, MHS President and CEO, RCS Pinellas. “Here at RCS Pinellas, we depend on the help of over 2,500 volunteers each year to accomplish our mission. Without individuals and groups like the Threshers there would be no RCS. The real home run is seeing children and families run home with a bag full of groceries!”

As members of the Philadelphia Phillies minor-league system, Threshers players participate in the Step Up Community Service Program – which provides opportunities to volunteer and encourages the young athletes to give back to their local communities. The partnership of RCS and the Threshers represents the service-minded goals of both organizations.

The programs at RCS Pinellas include:

RCS Food Bank – provides nutritious food to our Pinellas County neighbors who need help stretching their grocery budget.

RCS Grace House – helps individuals and families facing homelessness return to self-sufficiency. We provide families with 8 weeks of apartment style housing and other wrap-around services.

RCS Thrift Store – provides high quality shopping experiences for our community and program participants at little or no cost.

The Haven of RCS – provides safety, security and support for women and children facing domestic abuse.

Find out more about RCS Pinellas at rcspinellas.org.
