TinCaps Gear Up for Halloween

 

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne TinCaps are gearing up for Halloween.

From Monday, Oct. 21 through Friday, Oct. 25, fans can go to TinCapsWin.com and enter a contest for their child to go trick-or-treating with Johnny TinCap on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Before then, Parkview Field is hosting a Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, Oct. 19 (5:00–6:45 p.m) as part of Downtown Fort Wayne’s Fright Night.

Fans are invited to the ballpark to search for items hidden around the venue. Attendees can take as much time as they need to participate. The fan who guesses the correct number, or closest to that, will win a special prize pack from the TinCaps and Parkview Field. The ballpark will also have limited concessions available, plus Halloween-themed content playing on the video board, and an appearance by Johnny TinCap. The event is suitable for all ages. As part of the Halloween season, Johnny TinCap will also be making the rounds at other community events such as trunk-or-treats.

TinCaps Continue Military Appreciation Night in 2019

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne TinCaps once again have partnered with OmniSource LLC, Steel Dynamics Inc., and the San Diego Padres to welcome military personnel to Parkview Field for Military Appreciation Night on Monday, Aug. 19 (7:05 p.m.), when the team hosts the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate).

Complimentary tickets are currently available for military families-both active and veteran-to enjoy the game on Aug. 19, thanks to the generosity of OmniSource, Steel Dynamics, the Padres, and caring individual donors.

The Padres, Fort Wayne’s Major League Baseball affiliate, are once again underwriting the costs for 1,000 tickets for military families. The San Diego Padres are proud to partner with the TinCaps in support of military and charity initiatives in the Fort Wayne area. The Padres had the first military outreach program in professional sports and it is currently the largest in MLB.

“We’re indebted to our nation’s military members and their loved ones,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “This gives us an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifices to our country. We’re also thankful to have teammates like OmniSource, Steel Dynamics, and the San Diego Padres to help us honor our military.”

TinCaps Seek Nominees for Military Salutes in 2019

The Fort Wayne TinCaps, along with OmniSource LLC and Steel Dynamics Inc., will salute our military throughout the 2019 season and need your help.

All those who serve our country, or have served, deserve to be saluted. The TinCaps are looking for nominations of active or veteran military personnel to honor at games. If you have a friend or family member you’d like to see honored at Parkview Field, then let the team know.

Selected nominees will be rewarded with VIP treatment at Parkview Field. This includes tickets to the game for them and their family, and recognition on the field before that night’s fireworks show.

TinCaps to Honor Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Rising Star Student

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana will recognize Amaya Williams, a local high school senior and one of 20 national Rising Star Students program winners, with an on-field check presentation and a ceremonial first pitch on Friday, June 22 when the team plays the West Michigan Whitecaps at Parkview Field at 7:05 p.m.

The TinCaps and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana surprised Amaya with the invitation to Parkview Field at the Big Futures Graduation on Tuesday night (June 12).

 

Williams will receive a $500 college stipend as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Rising Star Students program. The award honors high-achieving students involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America mentorship program who are preparing for college.

 

Amaya, who just graduated from North Side High School in Fort Wayne, plans to attend Ivy Tech and major in Early Childhood Education. Williams wants to impact those around her and always looks for an opportunity to make a difference in her community and within herself. With the influence of her Big Sister, Domini, Amaya feels confident that she’s fully prepared for her future in college and in the workplace.

 

Nominees for the honor were required to provide submissions describing their academic and personal achievements, college and career goals, and how their involvement in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program has impacted them.

 

“Big Brothers Big Sisters does amazing work in our community and around the nation,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “Amaya and Domini are a perfect example of how BBBS can develop young people into our future leaders. We can’t wait to honor Amaya at Parkview Field.”

TinCaps & Padres to Donate to Challenger Baseball League

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps and the San Diego Padres are donating $1,000 to provide bats and helmets to the local Challenger Baseball League at Northcrest Little League.

The Little League Challenger Division is an adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Any individual with a physical or intellectual challenge may participate. The Challenger Division accommodates players ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in school. Locally, there are six teams in the Challenger League that meet every Sunday. There are over 950 Challenger programs in 10 countries around the world with over 30,000 athletes participating in the Challenger Division every year.

 

“When we heard about the opportunity to support such a tremendous organization in our community, we were excited to help in any way possible,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “The Challenger Baseball League has an amazing mission, and we’re grateful to have a Major League affiliate like the Padres who are committed to helping us make a positive impact in our community.”

 

The Fort Wayne and San Diego organizations are in their 20th season of affiliation together, going back to 1999. Annually, the Padres sponsor more than 1,500 tickets that are donated to non-profit organizations in the Fort Wayne area that allow less fortunate fans to attend games at Parkview Field. In addition, the Padres underwrite the costs for 1,000 tickets for military families on Military Appreciation Day at Parkview Field (which this year is set for Sunday, June 10). Not to mention, Padres prospects with the TinCaps volunteer to make appearances in the community throughout the season.

 

“The Padres are always committed to helping the TinCaps make a difference in the community in Fort Wayne as we do in San Diego,” said Todd Stephenson, Padres Manager for Minor League Administration. “Like the TinCaps, as an organization, the Padres are committed to making the game of baseball inclusive for all. The Challenger Baseball League does an incredible job and hopefully our donations help these kids and young adults create special baseball memories that will last a lifetime.”

 

Representatives from the TinCaps, including team mascot Johnny TinCap, will deliver the equipment on Sunday, June 3.

 

About Challenger Baseball:

The Challenger Baseball program was initiated by Little League Baseball in 1989 to meet the needs of physically and mentally challenged brothers and sisters of Little League players. The Fort Wayne Challenger program began in 1991 with two teams totaling 17 players, playing games alternately between the Northcrest and Forster Park Little League complexes, to be accessible for wheelchairs.

 

In 1999, two additional teams were added with 46 players ages eight through age eighteen or High School graduation. In 2008, Fort Wayne was chartered with the first experimental Senior Challenger program for players ages 14 to unlimited age, which now serves an additional twenty-two players.

Halloween is quickly approaching and Johnny TinCap is looking to make plans. Do you know anyone who’d like to go trick-or-treating with him?

If so, members of the TinCaps Kids Club are invited to enter the TinCaps Halloween Essay Contest. All you need to do is explain “Why I want to trick-or-treat with Johnny TinCap…” in 100 words or less.

TinCaps Auctioning Jerseys to Support Hurricane Relief

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In an effort to support those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, the Fort Wayne TinCaps are auctioning off special game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia. All proceeds from the online auction at TinCapsJersey.com (running now through Friday night) will be donated to Minor League Baseball Charities, which is collecting funds on behalf of Minor League Baseball’s 160 teams to provide relief to the MiLB communities in need.

MiLB Charities will match the TinCaps’ donations up to $10,000. Additionally, the Midwest League will match up to $5,000 raised by the TinCaps.

The TinCaps will be wearing “fauxback” jerseys on Friday-the same ones they previously wore on ’70s Night (July 7). The auction will remain live through the sixth inning of Friday’s game against the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers) at Parkview Field.

Auction winners who are at Parkview Field will receive their jerseys directly from players and coaches on the field after the game. Those who aren’t in attendance Friday can make other arrangements to get their jersey.

“This is just a small gesture on our part to help our brothers and sisters in Texas,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “So many of our players and staff members over the years are from Texas, or have family and friends there, so it hurts even more to see what’s happening. We know they’re resilient, though, and we’re here to help however we can.”

The TinCaps have had several other jersey auctions this season supporting non-profit organizations. Friday was not originally scheduled to be one, but the team saw this as an opportunity to take action.

Fort Wayne’s roster features some of the top prospects in all of baseball, like pitchers Adrian Morejon and Michel Baez . Shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. donned this jersey (No. 23) in July, too, before the San Diego Padres promoted him to Double-A San Antonio.

The TinCaps are wrapping up the regular season with their final home series of the season against Great Lakes (Wednesday-Friday, 7:05 p.m.). The team then finishes the regular season on the road at West Michigan (Saturday-Monday). Fort Wayne is on the verge of clinching a Midwest League Playoff spot.

TinCaps Hosting Baseball Clinic For Kids

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Learn from the Pros at the 2017 TinCaps Players Clinic! This clinic is for Kids Club members ages 6-12 and will be at Parkview Field on August 12th from 10AM – 12PM. Check-in will be at 9:30 AM inside the main gates and there will be a pizza party afterwards in the Huntington University Picnic Pavilion.

Kids Club Members will receive instruction from TinCaps Players, a t-shirt, autographs, and a post-clinic lunch. The cost is $25 and there are only 64 spots available, so be sure to sign up ASAP!

Fort Wayne TinCaps To Honor Esurance Rising Star Students Program Winner During On-Field Ceremony

FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Fort Wayne TinCaps, Esurance and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana will recognize Addam Ray, a local high school senior and one of 14 Esurance Rising Star Students program winners, during a pregame presentation at Friday’s game versus the Dayton Dragons. The Esurance Rising Star Students program, which highlights and celebrates Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) participants for their outstanding service to their local communities, awards select high school students a $5,000 college stipend each, courtesy of Esurance.

Ray plans to attend Ivy Tech and become a computer programmer. He aspires to start his own company and use it as a platform for doing good in the world. Addam credits his “Big” from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana for “showing him right from wrong, good from bad, laugh in the good times, and talk in the bad times.”

The Esurance Rising Star Students program submissions included unique and inspirational stories, academic accolades, college and career plans and more, emphasizing why each individual was a 

“Rising Star” in his or her community. To be eligible, nominees were required to be “Bigs” or “Littles” in Big Brothers Big Sisters.  

“With the help of Esurance and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, we can recognize a Rising Star Student in our community getting ready for his or her own call-up to college, and honor the student with a unique ballpark celebration,” said Mike Nutter, President of the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

June Kids Club Coloring Contest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — TinCaps Kids Club members have the chance to get their artwork put in an upcoming gameday program. Introducing our June Kids Club Coloring Contest! The theme of the contest is “Where in the World is Johnny?” Print this graphic of Johnny, color him, and draw him anywhere in the world!

The winner of the contest will get his or her drawing published on a full page in one of our gameday programs. Runner-ups will have a smaller picture of their drawing printed in the program.

You must be a member of the Kids Club to enter the contest. The club is free to join. TinCaps to Wear Vera Bradley-Designed Jerseys for Turn the Park Pink

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – For the first time ever, the TinCaps will wear pink jerseys designed by Vera Bradley for the team’s annual Turn the Park Pink Night on Saturday, June 17 (7:05 pm), when they host the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) at Parkview Field.

 

The “modern medley”-patterned pink jerseys are designed by Vera Bradley Senior Graphic Designer Alexandria Baker, a TinCaps fan and Fort Wayne native who went to the University of St. Francis.

“We’re thrilled to be partnered with Vera Bradley and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer,” said TinCaps Vice President Michael Limmer. “Not only do the jerseys look great, but most importantly they’ll be helping to save lives.”

The jerseys are currently being auctioned off online at TinCapsJersey.com and will be available for fans to bid on through the bottom of the sixth inning on the night of the game. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. (Fans don’t need to be in attendance at the game to win the online auction.)

Currently, the TinCaps’ roster features nine of the San Diego Padres’ top 30 prospects, including shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. , who ESPN.com ranks as one of the 50 best prospects in all of baseball.

Through the generosity of the OmniSource Corporation and Steel Dynamics Inc., and caring individual donors, the TinCaps also invite all members of the military and their families to attend Military Appreciation Night on Tuesday, June 27 (7:05 p.m.) when the TinCaps host the South Bend Cubs. The TinCaps will wear special patriotic jerseys on Military Appreciation Night presented by OmniSource and Steel Dynamics and on the Fourth of July. The jerseys will be auctioned off on the Fourth with all proceeds benefitting Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.

Authentic, Game-Worn TinCaps Jerseys Up For Auction

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Ever wanted to have the jersey of a Major Leaguer? Or the jersey of one of baseball’s top prospects before they make it big? Maybe you just want a jersey with your favorite number on the back. Either way, now’s your chance.

 

The Fort Wayne TinCaps are auctioning off authentic, game-worn jerseys that fans can bid for online, with proceeds benefiting the TinCaps CARE program.

 

The auction is now live on TinCapsJersey.com and will run until Friday, March 31 (5 p.m.). Bidding for each jersey begins at $50 and goes up by $5 increments.

 

The jerseys being auctioned are the team’s previous green alternate tops, featuring the apple logo on the front and uniform number on the back. These jerseys were also worn regularly during batting practice from 2013-2016.

 

Over the past four seasons, current big leaguers like Trea Turner, Joe Ross, Mallex Smith, Zach Eflin, and Hunter Renfroe wore these jerseys – not to mention Pitching Coach Burt Hooton and former manager José Valentín. The same goes for rising prospects such as Anderson Espinoza, Cal Quantrill, Jake Nix, Luis Urias, Eric Lauer, Michael Gettys, Jake Bauers, and Max Fried. The TinCaps are committed to being a positive force in the community. The mission of TinCaps CARE (Community, Activity, Recreation, and Education) is to give back to citizens around the region through outreach, programs, events, fundraising, and partnerships with local charitable organizations. Perhaps the most impactful of the TinCaps CARE programs allows members of the Fort Wayne community that would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend a game to come out to Parkview Field. During the 2016 season, more than 2,000 tickets were donated through the TinCaps CARE program, including tickets for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys & Girls Club, and many other deserving community organizations.  

 

As in the past, the TinCaps will also have several auctions for specialty jerseys worn on theme nights during the 2017 season.

 

The TinCaps will don their new batting practice jerseys when they warm up for their 2017 home opener at Parkview Field on Saturday, April 8 (6:05 p.m.) against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays).
