Generals and RIFA Pack Meals For Jackson Community

The Jackson Generals spent the week teaming up with the Regional Inter-Faith Association, helping pack snack backpacks and provide meals to the Jackson community. RIFA is a local faith-based organization that has been helping curb hunger throughout the city since its founding in 1976.

Volunteer Coordinator Dan Ward says that RIFA’s combined ministries were able to provide 518,000 meals to those in need in 2019. The organization hopes to reach equal numbers this year, but like many, is also feeling the strain of the coronavirus pandemic.

“All of our ministries are dependent upon volunteers,” explained Ward. “Last year there were 25,216 volunteer hours. Since Covid-19, I have been limited to eight or ten in a group. So with more demand than ever for our services and with fewer volunteer hands to do it, our staff is very overworked.”

According to the RIFA official website, one out of every five people living in Jackson are unsure where their next meal will come from, and 18.9% of people in Madison County live below the poverty line. Those are pre-pandemic numbers, and as Ward references, meal demand continues to grow.

“The Generals staff have made it a top priority to repurpose our time by getting out into the Jackson community and surrounding cities as much as possible,” said Generals Entertainment Director Vincent Zielen. “We want to help wherever and however we can for the fans who have supported the Generals throughout the years.

“Groups such as [the Generals] are the lifeblood of RIFA,” Ward said.

The Generals front office will continue to band with RIFA during the summer months and encourages other local charities to request the team’s help whenever needed. Nashville Sounds Join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First Campaign

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club announced today its participation in Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First initiative. The campaign is geared to raise funds for local Feeding America food banks while also honoring local heroes risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. The local Feeding America food bank the Sounds and its fans will raise money for is Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

For every $10 donated through the campaign by a Nashville Sounds fan, the Sounds organization will donate one ticket (up to 500 maximum) to a future 2020 or 2021 game to a local hero. The ticket donations will be made to heroes supporting Middle Tennessee such as local nonprofits, hospital staff, first responders, nursing home staff, grocery store employees, and many others.

We are asking for our dedicated fan base to be great teammates during this heartfelt Minor League Baseball initiative.”

Nashville Sounds fans interested in donating can follow these instructions:

1) Fan visits dedicated donation page at MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst

2) Fan selects Nashville Sounds from the drop-down menu of participating teams.

3) Fan selects the amount he or she wants to donate ($10 minimum) to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

4) Payment is processed and fan receives a thank you confirmation e-mail.

To kick off the campaign, MiLB Charities has made a significant donation to the Feeding America COVID-19 Response Fund.

The Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play at First Horizon Park. The 2020 season will begin at a date yet to be determined by Minor League Baseball.

Tennessee Smokies Join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First Campaign

SEVIERVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Smokies announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smokies fans are encouraged to visit MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the Tennessee Smokies as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the Eastern Tennessee community. For every $10 donated, the Smokies will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to a local hero of the pandemic.

“The core behind the Tennessee Smokies and across Minor League Baseball is the community,” stated Tim Volk, Smokies General Manager. “During this unprecedented time, we want to make sure our community members are taken care of which is why we are joining Minor League Baseball in the CommUNITY First Campaign.”

School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.

Smokies Offer Free Lunch to First Responders & Health Care Workers

SEVIERVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Smokies have announced all first responders are able to pick up a free lunch on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 from 11:30am-1:00pm. Curbside pickup is available in front of the restaurant located on the left-hand side of Smokies Stadium.

First responders including medical staff, police officers, fire fighters, and military personnel do not have to leave the comfort of their own vehicles to pick up their food. Upon arrival, a Smokies Staff Member will take their order and deliver the food back to their car.

“During this unprecedented time, the Smokies keep looking for ways to support our local first responders,” said Boyd Sports Director of Food & Beverage Chris Franklin. “Being able to provide them a free meal is just one way we are able to support them for all they do in our community.”

In partnership with BUSH’S® Beans, the Tennessee Smokies menu options include either a cheeseburger, tenderloin sandwich, or hot dog with a bag of Uncle Rays chips, Bush’s Baked Beans, and a bottle of water.

DROP OFF NASHVILLE RELIEF DONATIONS AT MEMORIAL PARK COMMUNITY CENTER

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The Johnson City Cardinals are collecting donations to support the surrounding Nashville area during their tornado relief efforts. Memorial Park Community Center will be a drop off location for sealed and unused goods on Friday, March 6th and Monday, March 9th through Thursday, March 12th from 9 am – 4 pm.

Zack Clark, Johnson City’s General Manager commented, “We are keeping Nashville and the surrounding area in our thoughts as they start to recover. We want to show our support in any way we can.”

Sounds Donate $100,000 to Music City Inc. to Help Aid Tornado Relief

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club, on behalf of owners Frank Ward and Masahiro Honzawa, has announced a donation of $100,000 to Music City Inc., the 501c(3) charitable foundation of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. The funds will go towards providing immediate and direct support to families that have been affected by the tornadoes in Nashville.

In addition to the donation made to Music City Inc., numerous members of the Sounds front office have lead relief efforts in the Germantown area near First Horizon Park. Those recovery efforts will continue until at least Sunday evening.

Additional donations are being made to the Nashville Sounds Foundation from the baseball community, including a significant donation from the Sounds parent club, the Texas Rangers.

The Nashville Sounds Foundation has received an initial monetary donation of $10,000 from the Texas Rangers. Additionally, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will donate to the Sounds Foundation the proceeds generated from the team’s Texas 2 Split Raffle at a home game to be announced early in the 2020 season at the new Globe Life Field. The Rangers are also donating auction and raffle items to contribute in raising funds.

“The Texas Rangers extend our thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and to everyone affected by the devastating tornados in Tennessee earlier this week,” said Rangers Chief Operating Officer and Baseball Foundation Chairman Neil Leibman. “We want to pledge our assistance to our great partners, the Nashville Sounds in their efforts to help the community in its recovery.”

The foundation has also received a $5,000 donation from MiLB Charities and generous monetary donations from Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O’Conner, and the Pacific Coast League.

“All of Minor League Baseball stands ready to assist the people of Nashville and central Tennessee with the recovery efforts, and we are proud to assist the Sounds organization as they help those in need,” said O’Conner. “Community is a focal point of what we do across the country and when one community is in need, we rally to address the needs of those affected. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this disaster.”

Centerplate to Host Job Fair at First Horizon Park

Sounds’ Food and Beverage Provider to Hire Approximately 150-200 Staff Members

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club’s food and beverage provider, Centerplate, will host a seasonal job fair at First Horizon Park on Tuesday, March 3 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Centerplate is seeking outgoing, energetic and fan-friendly individuals to become part of their game-day staff for 70 home games and additional ballpark events.

Positions to be hired include cooks, dishwashers, culinary supervisors, concession supervisors, concession cashiers, concession backline, catering attendants and warehouse staff. All positions offer flexible hours and schedules, shifts ranging from four-to-six hours in length, and hourly wages vary by position.

All attendees should enter First Horizon Park through the Suite and Club entrance doors adjacent to the ticket office on Junior Gilliam Way. Applicants should come prepared to interview with a Centerplate staff member.

SMOKIES HOST SECOND JOB FAIR AT SMOKIES STADIUM

SEVIERVILLE – The Tennessee Smokies have announced that the club will be hosting a second Job Fair at Smokies Stadium on Saturday, March 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. When arriving at the stadium, please enter at the Restaurant located on the left-hand side of the stadium.

The job fair will feature positions from many departments with part-time and seasonal positions within Smokies Stadium. The Tennessee Smokies are looking for employees who are able to work all home games and additional events as needed inside Smokies Stadium. Most games are held during evening hours of the week and many weekends.

Available departments include new hires for food and beverage, ticketing, production, promotions, merchandise, and stadium operations.

Food and Beverage is looking to fill positions for cooks, cashiers, runners, servers, picnic attendants, and group area attendants. Other available positions in the Restaurant include cooks, servers, bartenders, and hosts.

Ticketing is looking to fill positions for ticket takers and ticket sellers.

Promotions and Production are looking to fill positions for mascots, rally crew promotion team members, camera operators, and press box personnel.

Merchandise is looking to fill team store representatives.

Stadium Operations is looking for fill positions in first aid, ushers, bat boys, and kid zone attendants.

Most Smokies Stadium positions require a person to stand and walk for extended periods of time, as well as run, sit, navigate stairs, kneel or crouch. The Generals Are Hiring For The 2020 Season!

JACKSON, TN – The Jackson Generals are in search of seasonal employs for the 2020 season and are hosting a pair of job fairs on Saturday, February 22nd and Saturday, March 7th at The Ballpark at Jackson from 10 am -3 pm. We are looking for hardworking individuals that love spending time at a ball game while providing exceptional customer service and family entertainment.

Positions in all departments of the Generals operation are available, including box office staff, concessions, promotions and more. Candidates should be open to working the majority of the Generals 70 regular season home games, in addition to concert events held at The Ballpark, running from mid-April to early September. Appalachian League Releases 2019 Community Report

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Appalachian League today announced it surpassed $2.3 million in charitable contributions for the 2019 calendar year. The multi-million dollar figure is a culmination of all community involvement from the ten teams in the Advanced-Rookie league, as well as efforts from the Appalachian League office.

“As a league, we appreciate the opportunity to give back and to enhance the communities that have supported our member clubs for more than 100 years,” said League President Dan Moushon.
Appalachian League executives, staff members, players, coaches, and umpires spent more than 7,600 hours volunteering in their communities across more than 220 events. Additionally, organizations partnered with five Minor League Baseball national charity partners and hosted local activations for five MiLB community initiatives.

FIRST SMOKIES JOB FAIR OF THE 2020 SEASON

SMOKIES INVITATIONAL WILL BE FRIDAY, MARCH 13

SEVIERVILLE, TN – The Smokies have announced their Smokies Invitational on March 13, 2020, held at Three Ridges Golf Course (6101 Wise Springs Road, Knoxville, TN 37918). The day’s events begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch followed by a 1:00 p.m. tee time. Smokies Invitational will feature a round of golf, 50/50 raffle, men’s and women’s longest drive competitions, hole-in-one contest, and closest to the pin contest.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs. The donation will include 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction, purchases made for red tee shot and more. Tim Volk, Smokies General Manager, explained, “We are excited to be partnering up with Smoky Mountain Service Dogs again this year. For all they do in our community, this is our way to help them succeed.”

There are three (3) different options for Smokies Invitational registration all including, lunch, green/cart fees, and donation to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs. Two of the options come in teams of four (4) ranging from $750/each-$500/each. The third option is individual players who will later be placed onto a team of four costing $150/each.

Nashville Sounds Foundation Now Accepting Applications for 2020 Scholarship Program

For the fifth consecutive year, the Nashville Sounds Foundation will award four scholarships worth $2,500 each to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college in fall of 2020.

The program, which began in 2016, has awarded $40,000 in scholarships and is designed to help deserving Nashville and Middle Tennessee students help pay for college tuition during their freshman year.

“The Nashville Sounds Foundation is proud to continue our scholarship program into its fifth year,” said Nashville Sounds Foundation Executive Director Destiny Whitmore. “To be able to help Middle Tennessee students pursue their dream of a college education is extremely fulfilling. The continued support of our fans through fundraising efforts makes this possible. We’re thankful for the ongoing generosity.”

Interested seniors must complete the application process at www.nashvillesounds.com/community/scholarship. The process includes submitting a 250-or-less word essay explaining a project the student developed or participated in to change their community.

In addition to the essay, each submission must include at least two letters of recommendation from a teacher and/or coach, and an official high school transcript. The scholarship will be awarded based on the culmination of the student’s school work, extracurricular activities and involvement in the community.

Each winner will receive tickets to a select 2020 Nashville Sounds game of their choice and a special surprise from the Nashville Sounds Foundation. The deadline to be considered for the 2020 scholarships is Friday, February 14, 2020. Scholarship winners will be notified no later than March 27, 2020.

Winners from 2019 include Emmi Allen (University of Tennessee), Joshua Garretson (University of Tennessee), Ian Hall (Stanford University) and Faith McPhearson (East Tennessee State University).

The 2020 season begins on Thursday, April 9 when the Sounds host the Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. 2020 season ticket memberships are on sale through the Nashville Sounds ticket office. For more information on membership packages, call 615-690-4487, or e-mail tickets@nashvillesounds.com.

Sounds to Host Job Fair for GLOW Nashville on Monday, October 28 at First Tennessee Park

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club will host a job fair for part-time employment in preparation for the must-see holiday attraction GLOW Nashville on Monday, October 28 at First Tennessee Park.

The Sounds and Centerplate, the team’s food and beverage provider, will combine to hire approximately 150 employees to operate Nashville’s brightest Christmas experience from November 22 through December 31.

Positions to be hired include guest relations, ticketing, concessions cooks, dishwashers, cashiers, catering and bartenders (must have TABC Server Permit). Age requirements vary from 16 to 18 depending on the position.

As the newest must-see holiday attraction in the Southeast, GLOW Nashville will feature one of the country’s tallest Christmas trees, millions of lights adorning larger-than-life sculptures, epic ice skating and tubing experiences, a life-size Santa’s workshop and many more immersive activities designed to create memories for all ages.

WHEN: Monday, October 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: First Tennessee Park – Club Level. Attendees should enter through the glass Club & Suite Entrance doors adjacent to the ticket office on Junior Gilliam Way.

All positions offer flexible hours and schedules, shifts ranging from four to eight hours in length, and hourly wages varying by position.
Interested applicants should come prepared to interview with a Sounds or Centerplate staff member and should bring two forms of government issued identification (one with a picture).
