Lexington-Legends-2013A peanut allergy awareness night, three Ford Fireworks shows, including one for an Independence Day celebration, and a Bark in the Park night will highlight a seven-game homestand for the Lexington Legends beginning Friday, June 27.   The Legends will also welcome a former Kentucky Mr. Baseball back to the Bluegrass.

The Legends, class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, will take on the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in a four-game series June 27-30. The Greensboro Grasshoppers, an affiliate of the Miami Marlins, will be in for a three-game series July 1-3.

The schedule:

Family-Allergy-&-AsthmaFriday, June 27: Legends vs. Augusta, 7:05 p.m. The Legends and Family Allergy & Asthma are teaming up to provide a fun, worry-free evening for those with peanut allergies.   At one game each year, the Legends remove all forms of peanuts, sunflower seeds and any foods prepared with peanut oils, so that fans may enjoy the game – and the concessions — without concern about a possible allergic reaction.   There will be giveaway items and chances to win prizes donated by Family Allergy and Asthma. A Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.

Lexington-ClinicSaturday, June 28: Legends vs. Augusta, 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Lexington Clinic Night, and fans should look for information and giveaways from Lexington Clinic representatives. A Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.

Sunday, June 29:  Legends vs. Augusta, 6:05 p.m. It’s a JIF Kids Club Sunday. Kids Club members receive free admission to the game, and all kids may run the bases after the game.

Members-Heritage-FCUMonday, June 30:  Legends vs. Augusta, 7:05 p.m. All Monday night home games are “Kids Eat Free” nights, sponsored by Members Heritage Federal Credit Union. All kids age 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free meal and drink.

Tuesday, July 1:  Legends vs. Greensboro, 7:05 p.m. Every Tuesday night is 37-cent hot dog night. The price is in recognition of the Ford F-150 being the number one selling truck for 37 consecutive years.

The visiting Grasshoppers have a Kentucky connection:   Frankfort native and former Western Hills High School and University of Kentucky star J.T. Riddle is with Greensboro after being drafted in the 13th round and signed by Miami in 2013. Riddle was Kentucky High School Mr. Baseball in 2010.

Wednesday, July 2: Legends vs. Greensboro, 7:05 p.m. Wednesday is Bark in the Park night, presented by IncrediPet. Fans may bring their dogs to the game.

Thursday, July 3:  Legends vs. Greensboro, 7:05 p.m. It’s a Kentucky Ale Thirsty Thursday, and beer and Pepsi products will be on sale for one dollar each. There is no home game on July 4, so the Legends invite fans to celebrate Independence Day Thursday with a Ford Fireworks show after the game.

Wisconsin-Timber-Rattlers-2014The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers open the second half of their home schedule on Friday, June 27 with a special night. The Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers hosts the Burlington Bees with their sixth annual Peanut Free Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

There will be no peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut based products allowed inside the stadium for the game to allow fans with peanut allergies to enjoy this Timber Rattlers game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm

“I know families with children who have peanut allergies,” said Timber Rattlers president Rob Zerjav. “They circle this date every year for an opportunity to come out to a game. We are extremely happy to host this game again.”

The stadium will be cleaned and rinsed before Peanut Free Night to remove as much peanut residue from the seats, the concourse, and other areas in the ballpark as possible. Even though peanuts and products made with nuts or peanut oil will not be sold, the Timber Rattlers cannot guarantee that all peanut residues will be out of the ballpark. However, every effort will be made for a peanut free environment.

This game is also North Shore Bank Family Night presented by Y100. Children 12 and under receive a voucher that is good for a free hotdog and soda. Children 14 and under may run the bases courtesy of Molina Healthcare after the postgame fireworks display.

Z’s hosting peanut allergy-friendly game

Stadium will not have peanuts for May 6th game against Iowa

New-Orleans-Zephyrs-2014In an effort to accommodate baseball fans whose peanut allergies prevent them from attending games, the New Orleans Zephyrs are hosting a peanut-free night on Tuesday, May 6.

Though the song says “Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,” Zephyr Field will be peanut-free when the Z’s open a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs, sponsored by AllerGease. Fans with peanut allergies are often prevented from attending games due to high risk of exposure in stadiums.

“Many teams across the country have made an effort to reach out to baseball fans with peanut allergies,” said Brandon Puls, Zephyrs Promotions Director. “The Zephyrs are proud to welcome a group of fans who otherwise would not be able to see a game in person and allow them to experience a carefree night at the ballpark.”

According to Food Allergy Research & Education, roughly 3.3 million Americans suffer from peanut allergies. Studies have shown the number of children living with peanut allergies has tripled since 1997.

Silver Hawks to provide a Peanut Free Suite

South-Bend-Silver-Hawks-2014Your South Bend Silver Hawks on Sunday, May 18th will provide a peanut free area located in the Home Plate Suite in recognition of Food Allergy Awareness Week. Food Allergy Awareness Week helps educate the public about food allergies, a potentially life-threatening medical condition.

Allergy to peanuts appears to be on the rise in children; more than 3.5 million Americans suffer from it. There are 8 types of food that are responsible for more than 90% of allergic reactions, peanuts being one of those 8 foods.

“I am excited that we are able to do this again in 2014. Last year’s event was a huge hit and we were able to provide a fun day at the ballpark that many people were not able to experience in the past. We had one family in which their son had never been to a professional baseball game before because of his peanut allergies. We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to experience a Silver Hawks game, so we will do whatever we can to make it a reality. Because of last year’s success I expect the tickets to sell out quickly and as result, we have already started looking at dates for an additional night.” states Joe Hart, Team President.

Peanuts and baseball have gone together since 1908 when “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” was written by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer. For some fans a day at the ballpark wouldn’t be the same without a bag of peanuts, while others can’t even attend a game with the threat of peanut shells in the air.

Peanut allergy is one of the most common food allergies. Children with this allergy has been on the rise over the past decade, and usually battle for their entire life. Peanuts can cause a serve, potentially fatal, allergic reaction from peanut and peanut products. Trace amounts of peanut can cause an allergic reaction.

On Thursday, August 22 the Reading Fightin Phils have decided to have a food allergy awareness peanut free game to accommodate these fans. This will give fans with a peanut allergy the opportunity to watch America’s pastime live and in person.

On Thursday night, no peanuts or peanut products will be sold inside of FirstEnergy Stadium for the first time this season. Red section 5 have been steam washed, cleaned and designated as the peanut allergy section. Not only can fans finally come out to a game without fear of peanuts, they can also sit together with fellow fans who suffer from this allergy during the Fightin Phils game.

Thursday night the VIST Bank Plaza gates will open at 5:00 pm for a happy hour with $1 off beer and a pre-game concert featuring Vuja De thanks to Miller Lite. Members of the Redner’s Fightin Phils Kids Club can enjoy a happy half-hour from 5:00-5:30 pm with free Phunland. There will also be Berks Bards Poetry Contest. The seating bowl opens at 6:00 pm for the 7:05 pm game. There will be a post-game fireworks show thanks to Pepsi. Following the fireworks Vuja De will perform a post-game concert thanks to Yuengling.

PawSox Peanut Free Days at McCoy Stadium

The Pawtucket Red Sox are pleased to announce that they have designated two home games during the 2012 season as “Peanut Free Nights” at McCoy Stadium. The games will be May 24 when the PawSox host Toledo at 7:05 pm and August 3 vs. Lehigh Valley at 7:05 pm. Peanut products will not be sold anywhere throughout the ballpark during those two games.

We hope those with peanut allergies who have always wanted to enjoy a game, will be able to join us on May 24th and August 3rd, leave their worries behind, and root, root, for the home team!
