May 20, 2021

Columbus, Ohio – After vaccinating more than 200 people during the Columbus Clippers’ home opening series, Mount Carmel Health System and the Clippers are again offering a week-long COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at Huntington Park from Tuesday, May 25 to Sunday, May 30.

Fans ages 18 and over can visit the vaccine clinic behind home plate from the time gates open through the end of the third inning to receive the Janssen (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine. The J&J vaccine provides full vaccination with a single shot.

“We were thrilled to see the turnout the first time around and heard from several patients how this unique opportunity made the vaccine much more accessible for them and their families,” said Virginia Ruef, regional pharmacy officer at Mount Carmel. “We hope that by meeting people where they are and promoting these unique walk-up opportunities, we can help improve vaccination rates in central Ohio.”

“The Columbus Clippers are again honored that Mount Carmel has “stepped up to the plate” to team with us in offering our fans the J&J Vaccine for our second homestand. We know of no other team nor any other Health Organization that has taken these extraordinary steps to accommodate their community,” said Ken Schnacke, Clippers President and GM.

Clippers President & GM Ken Schnacke: “We believe that we are one of the first professional sports teams in the country to offer their fans a “shot and a beer” while enjoying a ballgame. This unique opportunity to get your J&J Vaccine while actually enjoying a Clippers game is the ultimate in multi-tasking! So come out to Huntington Park, see the Clippers play and get your vaccine shot to help central Ohio become safer for all of our citizens. Leave the game with your vaccination card and hopefully fond memories of a Clippers victory!”

“We’re thrilled to partner with our hometown heroes to offer one more opportunity for our community to be vaccinated,” said Dr. Mark Herbert, Mount Carmel infectious disease physician and long-time Clippers fan. “Being vaccinated is our best path forward for ending the pandemic and we strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated to do so. We invite them to come for some peanuts, crackerjacks, and great baseball and leave with added protection from COVID-19,” added Dr. Herbert, who will be singing the National Anthem during the home opener.

The Clippers open their first home stand of the season on Tuesday, May 11th against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 6:15pm. For tickets and informations, call 614-462-5250 or order online HERE.

Walsh Jesuit, Alliance Set To Face Off At Canal Park July 18

July 14, 2020

(AKRON, OHIO) July 17, 2020 – The Akron RubberDucks are thrilled to bring another Senior Night celebration to Canal Park this summer as the Walsh Jesuit Warriors and the Alliance Aviators on July 18. This edition of Senior Night features two schools with rich histories in Summit and Stark counties and will begin with first pitch of the nine-inning game at 7:05 p.m. at the home of the Akron RubberDucks.

Due to the high school baseball season being cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak, each team will be able to celebrate Senior Night in a memorable way as players will have their pictures on the video board and pregame celebrations will commemorate the occasion. Post-game fireworks for this event will begin shortly after the conclusion of this game.

“We are thrilled to give these student-athletes one more opportunity to play together this year and to see our community come together in this special celebration for the Class of 2020,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander, “We have been working hard to offer safe events at Canal Park this summer, and we can’t wait for our community to be able to see these athletes compete in a safe, socially-distant setting.”

The Akron RubberDucks will continue to follow all social distancing protocols as outlined by Gov. DeWine, Mayor Horrigan, and state and local health officials. The attendance for this event will be limited to 1,000 fans at Canal Park, socially distanced within the seating bowl.

TICKETS

Tickets to this event are available for $10 and can be purchased by directly contacting the Akron RubberDucks sales team at (330) 253-5151 or emailing [email protected]. Each fan in attendance will need to present their ticket—either printed in advance or displayed on a mobile device—at their designated point of entry into the ballpark with all members of their party together at the time of entry.

INSIDE THE BALLPARK

No outside food or beverage is permitted, but Canal Park concessions will be available for purchase via CASHLESS purchases. All guests at Canal Park will be required to wear face coverings at all times, except while sitting in their assigned, socially-distanced seating location.

Captains announce Virtual Summer Reading Program, presented by the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library

June 22, 2020

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains Summer Reading Program has been a staple of every baseball season, helping students in Northeast Ohio discover the joys of reading and providing educators with a fun platform to encourage literacy. Last year alone, 36,000 students and 2,000 teachers across 130 schools participated in the Captains Summer Reading Program. That tradition continues in 2020, as the Captains are proud to announce a unique Virtual Summer Reading Program, presented by Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library.

The Captains Virtual Summer Reading Program is a free turn-key initiative that enables students to participate from home. To join the program, students simply download the Captains Virtual Reading Program Bookmark, read 20 minutes or one (1) book every day and fill out their bookmark with the titles of the books they read. Parents and guardians can take a picture of their students’ bookmark every Sunday and email it to [email protected]. One winner will be selected every week to receive a Captains Surprise Package with cool Captains gear.

“The reading program is my favorite project every year because it really makes an impact on our community,” said Captains General Manager Jen Yorko. “During a normal year, the kids who complete the program get to parade around our field and announce their names to the crowd. It really gives them a sense of accomplishment and we see how much pride it brings to their families. We thought it was important to still give students and families a way to experience that joy and to encourage our local students to get excited about reading. We couldn’t do it without the support of the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library and our other local sponsors, Lake Health, the United Way of Lake County and The News-Herald.”

The Captains Virtual Summer Reading Program launches today, June 22, and will through August 16.

Captains Join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First Campaign

April 28, 2020

(Eastlake, OH), April 28, 2020 — The Lake County Captains today announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Captains fans are encouraged to visit MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the Lake County Captains as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the Northeast Ohio community. For every $10 donated, the Captains will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to local heroes of the pandemic at Lake Health and the City of Eastlake Police and Fire Departments.

School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.

In response, contributions from Captains fans and Minor League Baseball will help ensure families and individuals across the country most impacted by the pandemic are fed and cared for during these uncertain times. Join the national campaign by donating and selecting Lake County Captains at MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst and use #MiLBCommUNITYFirst on social media to show your support.
