The Lake County Captains will host Job Fairs at Classic Park on Monday, March 14 from 4 to 8 PM and Saturday, March 19 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Job seekers will be able to apply for seasonal positions and be interviewed on site. Applicants are advised to bring resumes and can enter through the administrative offices. Captains announce Trick or Treat at Classic Park, powered by NOPEC

 

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains are excited to announce a brand new Halloween-themed event coming to Classic Park this Fall. On Saturday, October 16, the Captains will host a special Trick or Treat at the ballpark event, powered by NOPEC.

The event will run from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature trick or treat stations, costume contests, photo opportunities, children’s characters, inflatables and more. Admission for the Captains Trick or Treat event is free.

Captains partners are invited to become a community partner for the event and pass out candy or promotional items. Space is limited. Interested organizations should email Ian Pertz at [email protected].

Captains to host vaccine clinic June 18

 

 

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains have partnered with the Lake County Department of Health to make COVID-19 vaccines available at Classic Park this Friday, June 18. Vaccines will be administered during the Captains game against the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Fans may pre-register at the link below. Those fans who pre-register can pick up their ticket at the Will Call window of the Classic Park Box Office on Friday using their photo ID. Walk-in appointments will also be available. Fans will be able to choose between receiving a dose of the Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

First pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and gates to Classic Park open at 6 p.m.

Captains announce Virtual Summer Reading Program, presented by the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library

 

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains Summer Reading Program has been a staple of every baseball season, helping students in Northeast Ohio discover the joys of reading and providing educators with a fun platform to encourage literacy. Last year alone, 36,000 students and 2,000 teachers across 130 schools participated in the Captains Summer Reading Program. That tradition continues in 2020, as the Captains are proud to announce a unique Virtual Summer Reading Program, presented by Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library.

The Captains Virtual Summer Reading Program is a free turn-key initiative that enables students to participate from home. To join the program, students simply download the Captains Virtual Reading Program Bookmark, read 20 minutes or one (1) book every day and fill out their bookmark with the titles of the books they read. Parents and guardians can take a picture of their students’ bookmark every Sunday and email it to [email protected]. One winner will be selected every week to receive a Captains Surprise Package with cool Captains gear.

“The reading program is my favorite project every year because it really makes an impact on our community,” said Captains General Manager Jen Yorko. “During a normal year, the kids who complete the program get to parade around our field and announce their names to the crowd. It really gives them a sense of accomplishment and we see how much pride it brings to their families. We thought it was important to still give students and families a way to experience that joy and to encourage our local students to get excited about reading. We couldn’t do it without the support of the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library and our other local sponsors, Lake Health, the United Way of Lake County and The News-Herald.”

Captains Join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First Campaign

 

(Eastlake, OH), April 28, 2020 — The Lake County Captains today announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Captains fans are encouraged to visit MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the Lake County Captains as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the Northeast Ohio community. For every $10 donated, the Captains will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to local heroes of the pandemic at Lake Health and the City of Eastlake Police and Fire Departments.

School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.

Captains announce United Way Ticket Package to support COVID-19 relief efforts

 

(Eastlake, OH) – In an effort to support COVID-19 relief efforts, the Lake County Captains are proud to announce a new ticket package in partnership with the United Way of Lake County (UWLC). Proceeds from the package will support the UWLC’s Lake County Relief Fund, which benefits food pantries, in-home grocery delivery for seniors, the Lake County Free Clinic and more.

Included with each $20 United Way Ticket Package purchase is a $5 donation to the UWLC Lake County Relief Fund, four (4) tickets to any 2020 Captains home game, four (4) ice cream vouchers, one (1) Skipper foam head, one (1) Captains autograph book and one (1) mystery bobblehead.

CAPTAINS ANNOUNCE 13TH ANNUAL CAPTAINS CHARITIES BASEBALL CLASSIC

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, have announced the line-up for the 13TH Annual Captains Charities High School Baseball for 2017. Ten local high school teams will compete in five featured games over two days at Classic Park. Ticket proceeds from the event will be shared between the participating schools and Captains Charities, the non-profit charitable arm of the Lake County Captains organization.

The Captains have expanded the event from eight teams to 10 this year. The 2017 edition will allow two additional schools to raise money and will allow more kids to enjoy playing at Classic Park.

The Captains Charities Baseball Classic is scheduled for Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. On May 5, the Chagrin Falls Tigers will play the Kenston Bombers, beginning at 4 PM, followed by the nightcap featuring the Twinsburg Tigers and the Mayfield Wildcats at 7 PM.

On May 6, the St. John Fighting Heralds will take on the Fairport Harbor Skippers at 11AM. Later on, the Kirtland Hornets will play the Beachwood Bison at 2PM, followed by the Eastlake North Rangers against the Willoughby South Rebels at 5 PM.

Tickets for the event will be just $6 each and will be available for purchase at each of the participating schools. Each school will receive 100 tickets to sell on their own for their specific day. Tickets to the games will also be available online at CaptainsBaseball.com and in person at the Captains Ticket Office during normal business hours, or by calling 440-954-WINS (9467). Daily tickets are good for all games that day.

Miracle League Baseball Field and Inclusive Playground Initiative Planned in Eastlake near Classic Park

(Eastlake, OH) – A collaboration of leaders in Lake County have put together a fundraising task force and campaign to create an exciting project geared toward children and adults with developmental disabilities. The project is planned at the corner of Route 91 and Vine Street in Eastlake, adjacent to Classic Park, and will include construction of a Miracle League baseball playing field and a large, inclusive playground which will provide play opportunities for individuals with all abilities. An official press conference will be held with members of the community and media at Classic Park on Thursday, September 29 at 1 PM.

There are over 2,000 residents in Lake County alone who will be able to utilize these new facilities which will be open year-round to residents across northeast Ohio. The project will cost approximately $1.2 million to develop and build the Miracle League field and playground. This initiative will be 100% financed through private contributions and donations. The group spearheading this project has already received support from the Lubrizol Foundation, CT Consultants, members of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council, the Lake County Captains, Captains Charities, and the Deepwood Foundation.

The Miracle League is a nationwide program with over 270 fields across the country. Their goal is to provide opportunities for children with physical and intellectual disabilities to play baseball and be part of a team. The team of leaders initially putting together this initiative includes the Lake County Commissioners, City of Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley, Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority Executive Director Mark Rantala, Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood Superintendent Elfie Roman, Deepwood Foundation Executive Director Rikke Coach, Lake County Educational Service Center Superintendent Brian Bontempo and Lake County Captains General Manager Neil Stein.

Commissioner Judy Moran, in announcing the creation of the task force said, “I am proud to be a part of the group that has been assembled for this very special Miracle League project. The field and playground will be a place for kids and young adults to come from all over the county and the City of Eastlake to enjoy the things we all do every day. It is a heart-warming project that will put a smile on the faces of everyone involved. The Miracle League Field and Playground will enhance this County as a wonderful place for special needs individuals and their families.”

Lake County residents with special needs already recognize the high quality of community support through Deepwood and the Lake County school systems. Elfie Roman from Deepwood said, “This project epitomizes the inclusive spirit of our Lake County community, and reinforces that all our citizens, of differing abilities, can live, work, and play together!” Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley commented, “I believe this is a great project for our community. This is not just for Eastlake but for all of Lake County and the surrounding area. I am honored to work with everyone on this task force to bring this project together for the very special group of kids and adults. This will be a special place for everyone to enjoy.”

The funds will be collected by the Deepwood Foundation and Executive Director, Rikke Coach, and will be tax deductible. The fundraising campaign will be led by fundraising Campaign Chairman Morris Beverage III and will begin in September with a goal of having the funds raised by the end of March in 2017. LCOPEDA Director, Mark Rantala said, “This is a very special project and we look forward to making this happen. Community resources like this enhance the County’s ability to attract a quality workforce. The Commissioners’ commitment recognizes that quality of life items are important to the attractiveness of the community. I am confident we can raise the funds.”

Captains Will Now Donate 100% of All Ticket Proceeds From June 30 Game to the Cleveland Courage Fund

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will donate 100% of ticket proceeds to The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation for tickets purchased using the on-line promo code COURAGE for the Sunday, June 30 game. The Captains had originally planned to donate the proceeds of their May 28 game and then their June 10 game but both games were postponed due to inclement weather.

Sunday is also a Family Fun Sunday, presented by the Lake County YMCA, featuring a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities, the Kids’ Zone area and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. All kids in attendance will receive a Captains activities book and crayons, presented by the YMCA and Lake County Job and Family Services.

The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation was established by Cleveland council members Brian Cummins, Matt Zone, and Dona Brady after the discovery of three local women who were held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade. The Fund, so named because of the courage shown by these remarkable women, will directly benefit Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight, and Amanda Berry and her daughter. 100% of the monies raised by the Fund will benefit the survivors.

Captains Charities Baseball Classic is May 3 and 11

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, has announced the line-up for the ninth Annual News-Herald Captains Charities High School Baseball Classic for 2013. Eight local teams will be featured in four games over two days at Classic Park. The event raises funds for Captains Charities, the non-profit charitable arm of the Lake County Captains organization, as well as the participating schools.

This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 11. On May 3, the Madison Blue Streaks will play the Notre Dame Cathedral Latin Lions beginning at 4 PM, followed by the nightcap featuring the Willoughby South Rebels and the Eastlake North Rangers

On May 11, the Painesville Riverside Beavers will take on the Mayfield Wildcats at 1PM and the Painesville Harvey Red Raiders will play the Gilmour Lancers at 4PM.

Tickets for the event will be just $6 each and will be available for purchase at each of the participating schools, on the Captains web site at www.captainsbaseball.com, in person through the Captains Ticket Office during normal business hours, or by calling 440-954-WINS (9467). Daily tickets are goods for both games that day.

Thursday Nights are Hometown Hero Nights at Classic Park

Area Military Personnel to be Honored Every Thursday During 2013 Season

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will honor local military heroes during every Thursday home game throughout the 2013 season as part of its Hometown Heroes promotion, which will run in conjunction with the team’s long-standing Military ID nights.

The Captains will be honoring one member of the armed forces or a member of their family by providing the honoree with tickets the Captains game in which they are being recognized and the chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.  The team will also read a PA announcement which will include biographical information about the honoree.

The military will be honored by the presentation of a large American flag on the field for the National Anthem and a different color guard every game will present the colors before the game. The Captains will honor America with the singing of God Bless America as part of the seventh inning stretch.

Military ID Night will once again take place every Thursday home game allowing members of the military who show a valid ID to purchase a ticket for themselves and their family members for only $5 per ticket.

Anyone who nominates a hero will be asked to leave their name and phone number as well as the name of the person they are nominating, the branch of service of the hero and a few notes about the nominee.

The Captains 2013 Opening Night Celebration is Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 PM as the Captains welcome the Lansing Lugnuts, an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, to Classic Park.
