2020 Danville Braves 5K Date Announced, Presented by HomeTrust Bank

DANVILLE, Va. – For the second consecutive year the Danville Braves will host a 5K race at their stadium, presented in back-to-back years by HomeTrust Bank on Saturday, July 25 at 8 a.m.

“At HomeTrust Bank we take community support seriously, and we’re so thankful to be sponsoring The Danville Braves 5K that contributes to the United Way,” said Kimberly Fox, branch manager at HomeTrust Bank’s north Danville location. “The United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County’s focus on education, health, financial empowerment, and workforce development are near and dear to us, and we look forward to being involved in this event each year.”

This is the third year the Danville Braves have hosted a 5K race in the last four years (2017, 2019, 2020). The event raised over $1,400 for the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County in 2019, and the event expects even more participants and donation money in 2020. In total, the D-Braves gave nearly $50,000 in gifts in-kind and monetary donations in 2019.

“We are so proud to bring our 5K back to our Danville community in 2020,” said Stephen Brunson, D-Braves assistant general manager and community relations contact. “This event epitomizes what our team stands for – fun, family-friendly activity and giving back to the community that has supported us these past 27 years.”

Each race pack includes a ticket to the game at 6:30 p.m. on July 25 vs. the Pulaski Yankees, a race performance shirt and official timing, provided by the Brick. Registration for the race is $30 for all participants that register online or over the phone by July 10th and will raise to $35 for participants that sign up after the early bird deadline. All participants will be required to sign a waiver at the ballpark the day of the event. The race route is yet to be definitively determined but will include aspects of the warning track in the stadium and the Riverwalk trail along the Dan River.

Appalachian League Releases 2019 Community Report

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Appalachian League today announced it surpassed $2.3 million in charitable contributions for the 2019 calendar year. The multi-million dollar figure is a culmination of all community involvement from the ten teams in the Advanced-Rookie league, as well as efforts from the Appalachian League office.

“As a league, we appreciate the opportunity to give back and to enhance the communities that have supported our member clubs for more than 100 years,” said League President Dan Moushon.
Appalachian League executives, staff members, players, coaches, and umpires spent more than 7,600 hours volunteering in their communities across more than 220 events. Additionally, organizations partnered with five Minor League Baseball national charity partners and hosted local activations for five MiLB community initiatives.

Braves Donate to United Way, Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves donated over $2,600 to the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County and the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association from fundraisers during the 2019 season.

In total, the Danville Braves have given over $48,000 in goods and services to Danville and the surrounding communities in 2019.

The Braves charitable contributions for the United Way came from the second annual D-Braves 5K, presented by HomeTrust Bank. The event had over 65 participants and the route of the race finished inside the Danville Braves stadium. In total, the Danville Braves were able to raise nearly $1,500 for the efforts of the United Way, who support 16 organizations across the greater Danville-Pittsylvania County area. The donation for the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association comes from the D-Braves Star Wars night on July 19, presented by Centra Health, where fans could purchase game-worn jerseys from Danville Braves players and coaches. On that date, Braves players touted special Han Solo jerseys. The proceeds of the sale totaled over $2,200. The Braves also sent over $1,100 to the Centra Foundation. In total, the Danville Braves have raised over $18,000 as a result of the jersey auction sales over the past nine seasons.

DPC provides financial, educational and emotional support to cancer patients in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area. Donations to the organization aim to defray the cost of cancer-related prescriptions, equipment, supplies, transportation reimbursement, nutritional supplements, as well as other special needs. Braves Present Gift to Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves continued their community-focused efforts to local non-profits, most recently with a donation to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association (DPC).

The Braves charitable contributions come from their Cancer Awareness night on August 11, presented by Centra Health, where fans could purchase game-worn jerseys from Danville Braves players and coaches. On that date, D-Braves players touted special Danville 97s jerseys, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the year Danville had two minor league affiliated teams. The proceeds of the sale totaled over $1,000. In total, the Danville Braves have raised over $16,000 as a result of the jersey auction sales over the past eight seasons.

D-Braves Offer Donation to God’s Storehouse

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented a donation to local non-profit God’s Storehouse on Tuesday morning.

The Braves donation comes from a mystery ball sale held in mid-July, where fans could purchase autographed baseballs collected from minor and major league teams across the country. The proceeds of the sale totaled to $1,000.

God’s Storehouse is a non-profit food pantry that seeks to collect and distribute food resources to those in need throughout the Danville and Pittsylvania County communities.

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented a donation of nearly $1,200 to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association Monday afternoon as part of MiLB’s CommUNITY initiative featured throughout the month of August. The D-Braves raised $2,397.32 from the auction of game-worn cancer awareness jerseys. The proceeds were split between the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association and the Centra Foundation.

The D-Braves 2017 Cancer Awareness Night on July 8 marked the seventh year in which the Braves wore and auctioned cancer awareness jerseys.

“We’re happy to support the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association and the support they provide local cancer patients,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross.

The Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association provides financial assistance to cancer patients in the area. For more information about the organization, visit danvillevacancer.org.

D-Braves make donation to Danville Veterans Memorial

DANVILLE, Va. – As part of the Minor League Baseball CommUNITY initiative and in support of the Danville community, the Danville Braves made a donation of $1,455 to the Danville Veterans Memorial Fund. The D-Braves raised the donated money through mystery ball and mystery bobblehead sales/auctions held during two games this season.

“We’re proud to continue to support the Danville Veterans Memorial in honor of the sacrifices of the men and women of our nation’s military,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross.

D-Braves present donation to God’s Storehouse

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented God’s Storehouse with a donation of nearly $2,000 prior to the team’s game against Bluefield Friday, August 11. The Braves raised $1,992.88 from the first ever Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness held earlier this season on July 15.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and the results of our first ever 5K,” said D-Braves Community Relations and Sales Manager Betsy Haugh. “We appreciate the community’s support of this event and are thrilled that we are able to make this donation to a great local non-profit organization in God’s Storehouse.”

65 runners and walkers competed in the Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness. The event was sponsored by Planet Fitness, HomeTrust Bank, and the Brick Running & Tri-Store, with all proceeds benefiting God’s Storehouse, a non-profit food pantry serving Danville and Pittsylvania County.

D-Braves Cancer Awareness Night Set for July 8

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves will host their annual Cancer Awareness Night presented by Centra on Saturday, July 8 during at 7pm matchup against the Burlington Royals. The D-Braves will wear special multi-colored jerseys with a large ribbon design on the back, meant to represent and raise awareness for all types of cancer.

The jerseys will be auctioned off in an online auction beginning Saturday, July 8 at 10pm EST. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Centra Foundation and the Danville Cancer Association. The auction will be hosted at dbraves.com and will conclude on Monday, July 17 at 8pm EST.

D-Braves Invite First Responders, Teachers to Appreciation Nights

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves today announced two additional promotional nights for the 2017 season – First Responders Night (July 20) and Teacher Appreciation Night (August 10). On each night, the Braves will offer $2 General Admission tickets to first responders and teachers, respectively. Both appreciation nights fall on Thirsty Thursdays presented by Buffalo Wild Wings when fans can purchase discounted fountain and draft beverages.

All firefighters, police, EMTs, and other first responders can purchase tickets in advance at the D-Braves offices or at the gate on First Responders Night, Thursday, July 20. Teachers may also purchase tickets in advance or at the gate on Teacher Appreciation Night, Thursday, August 10.

D-Braves, Planet Fitness partner for 5K

DANVILLE, Va. – The D-Braves are excited to announce that the organization’s first ever 5K race will take place during the 2017 season. The Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The race will benefit God’s Storehouse, a non-profit food pantry serving Danville and Pittsylvania County.

“We’ve been looking to host a 5K for a number of years now, and we’re excited to be able to make it happen in 2017,” said D-Braves Community Relations & Sales Manager Betsy Haugh. “We’re looking forward to working with our friends at Planet Fitness, as well as our other race sponsors, to make this a great community event in Danville.”

The race will begin on the concourse at American Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park, home of the Danville Braves, and conclude on the field’s warning track. Winners of each age group will be recognized in an on-field ceremony prior to the D-Braves game against Bluefield Blue Jays later on race day, and the overall male and female winners will have the opportunity to throw out a first pitch before the 7pm start.

Registration for the Danville Braves 5K is now open and can be completed online at dbraves.com/5K or in person at the Danville Braves offices at 302 River Park Dr. Runners may also mail in a registration form and payment to Danville Braves 5K, P.O. Box 378, Danville, Va 24543. Brochures are available at all sponsor locations, including Planet Fitness, HomeTrust Bank (Riverside Dr. location), The Brick Running & Tri Store, and God’s Storehouse.

D-Braves donate to Danville Veterans Memorial Fund

DANVILLE, Va. – In recognition of Veterans Day, the Danville Braves presented the Danville Veteran’s Memorial Fund with a donation of over $1,200. The D-Braves raised the funds by auctioning off game-worn military appreciation jerseys from the 2016 season. A total of $2,419.04 was raised through the auction, with half being donated to the Danville Veteran’s Memorial Fund and half to the Camp Lejeune Fisher House.

The D-Braves wore the special military appreciation jerseys for each Friday home game in July during the 2016 season, as well as the team’s July 3rd contest. Those games were dubbed Military Appreciation Nights presented by Angus Heating and Air and Blue Ridge Beverage; all active and retired military members received free admission to the games.

“To be able to help maintain a memorial that honors the sacrifice and service of our nation’s military is the least we can do,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross. “The Danville Veteran’s Memorial is a lasting tribute to the men and women that have helped protect this great country.”

D-Braves present donation to Danville Cancer Association

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented a donation of nearly $1,300 to the Danville Cancer Association Thursday morning. The D-Braves raised $1,271.70 through the auction of game-used jerseys worn on the team’s Colon Cancer Awareness Night during the 2016 season.

“We’re proud to continue to support the Danville Cancer Association,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross. “The work that the Danville Cancer Association does to help support cancer patients in the area has a big impact on local families.”

D-Braves nominated for Charles Murphy Patriot Award

DANVILLE, Va. – The Appalachian League announced its nominations for the Minor League Baseball Annual Awards Wednesday afternoon, with the Danville Braves earning the league’s nomination for the Charles Murphy Patriot Award. The award is presented to a team who demonstrates “outstanding support of and engagement with the United States Armed Forces and veterans, both at the ballpark and in the community.”

The D-Braves placed a strong focus on recognizing and honoring the military throughout the month of July during the 2016 season, with each Friday game and the team’s July 3rd contest being dubbed Military Appreciation Night presented by Angus Heating and Air and Blue Ridge Beverage. The Braves’ wore special military-themed jerseys on each of the Military Appreciation Nights, with the game-used jerseys being auctioned off to benefit the Danville Veterans Memorial and the Fort Bragg Fisher House.

Additionally, the D-Braves welcomed members of the Dan River High School J-ROTC for the National Anthem prior to each game on Military Appreciation Nights.

“We are honored to represent the Appalachian League for this award,” said D-Braves General Manager David Cross. “The U.S. Military and their families have provided more than we can ever repay, and honoring them in the ways we have is the least we can do.”

This year’s Charles Murphy Patriot Award will be presented at the 2016 Baseball Winter Meetings to be held in National Harbor, Maryland from December 4-8.
