Dell Diamond to Host Donation Drive Benefiting The Salvation Army

 

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express and Brown Distributing, Central Texas’ local Anheuser-Busch distributor, are teaming up to host a donation drive at Dell Diamond to benefit The Salvation Army. The drive is set for Wednesday, June 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Suite Parking Lot on the South side of Dell Diamond.

The Salvation Army’s biggest needs are household items, including pots, pans and kitchen appliances, as well as good standing furniture and lightly worn clothes. For more information on items that The Salvation Army can and cannot accept, please click here.

“Like most places in our community, we have taken a financial hit when it comes to serving vulnerable people in our community,” Austin Area Commander of The Salvation Army Major Lewis Reckline said. “Our family stores help people provide rehabilitation services to those who are struggling with addiction in our community. We accept clothes, furniture, cars, boats, household items and much more. Shop local and donate local to help our struggling neighbors.”

The Express and Brown Distributing recently joined forces to host a blood donation drive at Dell Diamond. With both organizations sharing resources to host the event, over 70 units of blood were donated to benefit We Are Blood. The Express and Brown Distributing are aiming to make a similarly impactful donation to The Salvation Army on June 3.

“We are honored to partner with the Round Rock Express on community events that give back to organizations like We Are Blood and The Salvation Army,” Brown Distributing Vice President Laurie Brown said. “Brown Distributing has been serving the Austin area since 1962 and supporting our community, especially in times of need, has been a company priority since our inception.”

Both The Salvation Army and Brown Distributing will have trucks on hand at Dell Diamond to accept donations. Those wishing to bring donations are asked to please wear a mask or protective face covering while at the stadium.

Dragons and Vectren Present 2018 “Community All-Stars”

Dayton, Ohio – The Dragons and Vectren will honor Olivia Velez during the unique “Community All-Stars” program on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. when the Dayton Dragons take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Fifth Third Field.

The Dayton community is a great place to live, work and play. But what makes Dayton truly great are the people that call Dayton home. We have great people and great organizations in our community that do incredible things each and every day. Throughout the season, the Dragons and Vectren will honor five “All-Stars” with a special inning break tribute in recognition of their service.

Olivia’s Story: “Little Girl, Big Heart”

At the age of 5, Olivia Velez’s life flipped upside down. She was uprooted from her home and sent to live with her grandma, but these moments never stopped her caring soul. She told her grandma, Tina, that she wanted to help kids in similar or worse situations. After brainstorming, they started collecting get-well-cards to send to children. These cards were full of googly eyes, funny jokes, and encouragement. Though she already brought smiles to hundreds of kids’ faces, she realized she could do more.

At the age of 7, Olivia started “Project Local Hugs”- an organization that takes donated goods and delivers them to those in need. Olivia and her grandma started collecting purses and included items like hair brushes, hand sanitizer, body wash, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Once completed, these purses are given to the local Young Women’s Christian Associate for women who are seeking a safe shelter from domestic violence or drug abuse.

Continuing to grow their organization, Olivia started collecting backpacks full of notebooks, pens and crayons to deliver to kids in situations similar to what she experienced. “It makes me feel better that I’ve done something good” Olivia said. “We should always be kind and think about others.”

Dragons Host Human Services Fair Sunday

Dayton-DragonsThe Dayton Dragons will host a Human Services Fair on the plaza outside Fifth Third Field from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 24. The event will help raise awareness about Montgomery County’s Human Services agencies and provide more information about the specific services delivered by the agencies and related non-profits.

Visitors to the Human Services Fair on the plaza (prior to the Dragons game vs. Great Lakes) can browse 30 booths for more information about the work of Children Services; Developmental Disabilities Services; Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County; and Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) as well as key senior services, the Job Center and selected social services delivered by non-profit agencies.

Montgomery County voters will vote on a Human Services levy this November 4. Based on recommendations by the Human Services Levy Council, Montgomery County Commissioners placed a renewal of an existing Human Services levy plus an increase of 1 mill on the November 4, 2014 ballot. If voters pass the levy request, the owner of a home valued at $100,000 would pay an additional $3 per month.

“For over 50,000 children, families and seniors in communities across Montgomery County, these services are vital,” said County Commissioner Judy Dodge. “We are thankful for the opportunity presented with the Human Services Fair on August 24 to raise awareness with residents and voters about the critical, effective, life-changing services funded by the levy.”

“Right now, displaced workers are getting the valuable help they need at the Job Center and thousands of children are receiving immunizations, counseling or care because of this critical human services funding,” said Montgomery County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman.

“Every service is reviewed regularly by a hard-working local panel, the Human Services Levy Council, that includes independent business leaders, financial experts, and citizen volunteers,” said County Commission President Dan Foley. “We are committed to providing quality services to the most vulnerable in our community.”

Legends, Royals team up on Project Purple Aug. 23

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends are teaming up with their major league affiliate, the Kansas City Royals, for a Project Purple night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Friday, August 23.

Project Purple is an initiative of The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation established by former NBA basketball player Chris Herren. Project Purple assists individuals and families struggling with addiction. It was established to break the stigma of addiction, increase awareness of the dangers of substance abuse and shed light on effective treatment practices.

Legends’ players will wear purple caps with the Royals “KC” logo during the August 23 game against Greenville. A silent auction for the caps will be conducted during the game. The winning bidders will go on the field after the game to receive their cap, which will be autographed by the Legends player who wore that cap during the game. All proceeds from the auction will directly benefit the Herron Project/Project Purple.

Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game, and those who do may buy a box seat ticket for the special price of seven dollars.

Project Purple information and items such as t-shirts and rubber bracelets will be available at tables on the concourse near the silent auction tables.

“The Kansas City Royals are proud to partner with the Lexington Legends and The Herren Project to promote and support Project Purple,” said Royals director of player development Scott Sharp. “We were fortunate to have Chris speak to our players during spring training about his struggles with substance abuse. BURLINGTON, VT — On Wednesday, July 4, Travelers, a leading provider of auto, home and business insurance, and the 2012 Vermont Lake Monsters hosted “Travelers Night at the Ballpark.” Mayor Miro Weinberger joined fans to “Chip for Charity” at the Travelers Chipping Challenge and Fan Zone, and later threw out the first pitch, helping Travelers raise $5,000 for the Turning Point Center of Chittenden County. Travelers and Mayor Weinberger presented the check on field following the first pitch at Centennial Field.
The Travelers Chipping Challenge is an interactive experience that includes taking a golf shot at a floating green in the shape of the iconic Travelers red umbrella for the chance to win some great prizes. Pirates Extending Spring Training Players Go Bowling For Great Cause!

Pirates Extended Spring Training players partnered with The Moyer Foundation at its 1st Annual Celebrity Rock n’ Bowl Charity Bowling Tournament on May 7th, 2011.

Proceeds from the bowling tournament benefit Camp Mariposa, a program designed to help meet the needs of children and teens facing the difficult challenges associated with having an addicted or co-dependent family member. Along with the bowling tournament the celebrities and guests had an opportunity to help the Moyer Foundation through a live auction.
