BlueClaws, RWJBarnabas Health to Host January 17th Blood Drive – Blood Levels at Critical Need

December 8, 2022

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws and RWJBarnabas Health will partner on an Emergency Blood & Platelet Drive at FirstEnergy Park on Tuesday, January 17th from 11:30 am until 5:30 pm. The current blood supply is at critical levels and the need for donors is extremely high.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended and can be made by clicking here or calling 732-235-8100 ext 221 or 248. There is limited availability within each 15-minute time slot to ensure social distancing protocols will be followed. While the need for blood is typically highest in the summer, the COVID-19 pandemic has further depleted the blood supply, making drives like these all the more important.

All donors are instructed to eat and drink prior to the donation and to bring a photo ID. Those that have been exposed to or cared for a positive COVID-19 patient within 28 days prior to the drive are not eligible to donate.

A screening will take place on the ground level before donors enter the lobby outside the ballpark.

All donors will receive two FREE BlueClaws tickets for the 2023 season and be a BlueClaws VIP experience for 20 people that includes a Luxury Suite and 20 Boardwalk and Mini Golf passes.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment.

WooSox Support Red Cross Blood Drive and Local First Responders on Weekend of 9/11

September 14, 2022

The Worcester Red Sox began the weekend at the American Red Cross Central Mass headquarters at 381 Plantation Street in Worcester, where WooSox front office members and Smiley Ball arrived in the WooSox Foundation Care-A-Van, presented by Bank of America.

The WooSox donated tickets, caps, and souvenirs to incentivize more blood donations for the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts. WooSox Vice President Joe Bradlee and WooSox Coordinator of Marketing & Fan Engagement George Lorin each gave blood on Friday to show their support and help save lives.

“I first became witness to the special relationship the Red Sox has with the American Red Cross back when I was an intern at Fenway in 2012, and have since always tried to donate blood when 9/11 rolls around,” Bradlee said. “It’s exciting for all of us to build upon the relationship here in Worcester, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Red Cross to encourage more people to give blood locally.”

“We’re thankful to the WooSox for supporting our Blood Drive on Friday,” said Nia Rennix, executive director of the Central-Western Mass Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We are always working hard to encourage more local donor turnout, and we applaud the Worcester Red Sox for helping us galvanize local community members to help us save lives.”

And after welcoming more than 3,000 people to Polar Park for the second annual Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, September 10, the team continued their weekend support of first responders by donating 450 tickets, each with $10 of loaded value, to every firefighter in the City of Worcester. The tickets are for the team’s final “First Responder Wednesday” of the season, presented by National Grid on Wednesday, September 21, at 6:45 p.m.

The team made visits to all 10 fire stations in the City of Worcester, and interacted with firefighters at each station to thank them for their service to the community. The WooSox were also joined by Kevin Hartigan, a retired Worcester Firefighter who now works for the team as an Ambassador at Polar Park.

“I thought that this was a very fitting and thoughtful gesture by the WooSox to thank our Worcester firefighters on 9/11,” Hartigan said. “We hope to see many of them back at Polar Park for our final Wednesday home game of the season on September 21.”

The team also donated tickets for September 21 to every Police Officer in the City of Worcester, and distributed those tickets earlier this week.

Blood Assurance and Sounds Team Up For Blood Drives and Ticket Promotion

June 30, 2022

Blood Assurance and the Nashville Sounds are seeking dozens of all-stars to save local lives.

The two organizations are teaming up for three blood drives, July 1-3. Each day, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., a bloodmobile will be parked outside First Horizon Park’s main entrance, located at 19 Junior Gilliam Way. On all three evenings of the blood drives, the Sounds will be in action against the Indianapolis Indians.

“Partnering with the Nashville Sounds is a home run for our organization and the community,” said Jerry Antoine, regional director of operations for Blood Assurance. “Through partnerships like this, we are able to collect additional units of blood, resulting in more lives being saved throughout Music City.”

As a token of appreciation, each blood donor will receive a free baseball-themed t-shirt and two tickets to the Sunday, July 31 Sounds home game versus the Charlotte Knights (while supplies last).

“We are honored and excited to partner with Blood Assurance on such an important endeavor in our community,” said Sounds general manager and chief operating officer, Adam English. “For those who are able, donating blood is life-saving and we’re proud to help. Plus, all donors can be loud at First Horizon Park and help the Sounds beat the Charlotte Knights on July 31!”

Moreover, in a rematch of last year’s World Series, one lucky donor who gives between July 1-15 at any Blood Assurance donation center or blood drive, will win two tickets to the Aug. 20 Atlanta Braves game at Truist Park versus the Houston Astros. The prize package also includes accommodations at an Atlanta hotel. Donors must register to win by visiting www.bloodassurance.org/homerun.

Donors can visit www.bloodassurance.org/sounds, call 800-962-0628, or text BAGIVE to 999777, to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will be accepted.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.

The Greenville Drive Celebrates 10-Year Partnership with The Blood Connection

May 12, 2022

The Greenville Drive takes great pride in being the front porch for the community of Greenville, which means they strive to aid their community. For 10 years the Drive has partnered with The Blood Connection to be a positive light in Greenville. The Drive announced a goal to secure 356 pints of usable blood over the course of the season through a series of six blood drives running from mid-April through mid-August at Fluor Field. The number 356 is special to The Drive, as it commemorates Shoeless Joe Jackson’s lifetime batting average and the name of the new District 356 entertainment area adjacent to Fluor Field.

The first two of these events took place on April 11 and April 20, with four additional tenth anniversary blood drives at Fluor Field set for:

  • Friday, May 20 from noon-5 p.m. (gameday)
  • Tuesday, June 7 from noon-5 p.m. (gameday)
  • Thursday, July 21 noon-5 p.m.
  • Friday, August 12 from noon-5 p.m. (gameday)

To encourage and recognize the importance of blood donors in helping friends and neighbors at their time of greatest need, the Ten Years of Saving Lives Campaign will include special rewards and incentives for those who donate at these events. The Blood Connection and the Greenville Drive will recognize the dedicated donors across the season at an end of the year event. Donate at two of the Fluor Field blood drives to be invited; donate at 3 throughout the summer and receive a commemorative Drive baseball jersey.

“In sports, we can sometimes throw the word ‘hero’ around a bit lightly, but those who donate blood are lifesavers and heroes in the truest sense of the word and should be treated accordingly,” said Greenville Drive Vice President of Marketing Jeff Brown. “Our work with The Blood Connection is not only one of our longest-standing relationships, but it is also core to The Drive’s mission to be a force for good in Greenville and beyond. We are proud to celebrate this milestone, and we know that the Greenville community will help us deliver on our very aggressive donation goals, because, just as we work to support them, this community has never let us down. As always, together, we win.”

Appointments are recommended but not required for donation, but those who need more information or wish to register in advance can do so HERE.

Saints, American Red Cross, And Regions Hospital Team Up For Blood Drive On February 18

February 11, 2022

ST. PAUL, MN (February 11, 2022) – Community involvement is a staple for the St. Paul Saints beginning before they played their first game in 1993. Whether it’s off-season or in season, the Saints team up with their partners for the greater good. The American Red Cross Blood Drive, hosted by the Saints in partnership with Regions Hospital on Friday, February 18, brings three of the more recognizable names in the Twin Cities together for one worthy cause.

The American Red Cross is facing its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing concerning risk to patient care. With less than a one-day supply of critical blood types in recent weeks, doctors have been forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available.

This is the time to take care of one another, and blood donation is essential to ensuring the health of the community. Blood donations can help the type of patients seen at Regions Hospital including trauma and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer.

Mayor Melvin Carter, CEO of HealthPartners, Andrea Walsh, and Regions Hospital Surgeon and MN Red Cross Board Chair, Dr. Hamlar, will join in on celebrating the outpouring support for the Twin Cities.

For more information contact the Saints at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.

Blood drive safety precautions

To protect the health and safety of Red Cross staff and donors, individuals who do not feel well or who believe they may be ill with COVID-19 should postpone their donation.

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including social distancing and face coverings for donors and staff – have been implemented to help protect the health of all those in attendance. Currently all available spots are filled and walk-up appointments aren’t available. Those donating and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive, in alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public guidance.

About blood donation

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Donors may still donate after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Knowing the name of the manufacturer is critical in determining blood donation eligibility.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

About the American Red Cross

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. Hot Rods Set Up Tornado Relief Auction Online

December 15, 2021

Bowling Green, Kentucky–The Bowling Green Hot Rods, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, have announced the team will hold a special online auction to aid in relief efforts across South-Central Kentucky. The auction will feature many items and experiences donated from around baseball with 100% of the proceeds staying local to help the Bowling Green community rebuild.

“Our staff and stadium are fine, but just a little over a mile from the ballpark is completely devastated,” Hot Rods GM/COO Eric C. Leach said in a letter to other Minor League Baseball teams earlier this week. “Over 500 homes and 100+ businesses have been destroyed, and sadly (multiple) deaths from the storms have been confirmed. Our goal now is to serve our community in the best way possible, and this is where we need your help!“

The baseball community responded in droves to Leach’s call for action. Autographs from baseball Hall of Famers like Cal Ripken Jr. and Joe Torre will be available for bidding as well as signatures from others around entertainment like Bill Murray. Others have donated things like special experiences for events and non-baseball-related items. All proceeds from the auction will stay in the community thanks to partnerships with the Stuff the Bus Foundation of Southern Kentucky and the Warren County Public Schools Synergy Relief Fund.

Those looking to bid on items can do so through the Hot Rods website over a 10-day period beginning Thursday when the auction goes live.

On Friday, December 17, Blood Assurance will be conducting a blood drive at Bowling Green Ballpark. Those who wish to donate can sign up online here. Limited spots are available.
