Senior Spotlight Series Rolls On At Canal Park With Two Midweek Senior Night Games August 4th & 6th

 

(AKRON, OHIO) July 31, 2020 – The Akron RubberDucks are thrilled to host two more games in this summer’s socially-distant Senior Spotlight Series at Canal Park featuring teams from all over Northeast Ohio. On August 4th the Brunswick Blue Devils will square off with the seniors from Highland and Barberton high schools, while on August 6th Cuyahoga Falls and Woodridge will take a trip down Route 8 to face off one more time at Canal Park.

Each game will be a traditional seven-inning exhibition with gates opening to fans at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch at 6:05 p.m. at the home of the Akron RubberDucks. Both games will be broadcast live on the radio at 640 WHLO, the new home for Akron RubberDucks baseball, beginning at 6 p.m. These games mark the sixth and seventh Senior Spotlight games to be held at Canal Park this summer.

These games will offer student-athletes from the class of 2020 a way to celebrate Senior Night together after the high school spring sports season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This senior night will certainly be memorable as players will have their pictures on the video board and pregame celebrations will commemorate the occasion.

“This obviously isn’t the way these student-athletes envisioned their senior seasons playing out, but we are excited to offer them one last opportunity to take the field wearing their school’s colors,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander, “This summer we have made sure to safely offer this opportunity to our community and we are so excited to celebrate these student-athletes in their final game. “

“Knights Care 4 CLT” Raised Over $125,000 

 

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Charlotte Knights are pleased to announce that the team’s “Knights Care 4 CLT” initiative, which was launched back on April 15, has raised over $125,000 and the team will now disperse the funds to those affected by COVID-19. With help from a $75,000 donation from naming rights partner, Truist, and additional contributions from Charlotte Knights Charities, sponsors and fans, the team will donate those funds to healthcare workers, seven local-area charities, and Knights’ employees (part-time, game-day, and full-time) who are in need.

“As this pandemic continues to affect so many in our community, we are very pleased to begin dispersing these much-needed funds to those who need some help,” stated Dan Rajkowski, Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer. “We are so thankful to Truist, as well as our generous partners and fans who helped us raise these funds for those in need. Baseball has a way of bringing communities together and we hope that we are able to help those in the community who have been affected by this difficult time in our nation’s history.”

In addition to the funds dispersed to Knights’ displaced employees due to COVID-19 from the cancellation of the 2020 season, the team is also contributing $15,000 from the “Knights Care 4 CLT” fund to Atrium Health, one of the team’s founding partners.

Rajkowski added, “In the face of this pandemic, our healthcare workers rose to the challenge and continued to care for our community in this time of need. As a part of our Knights Care 4 CLT campaign, we are very pleased to donate a portion of the funds to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund, addressing PPE and supply shortages.”

“It’s generous support from community partners like the Charlotte Knights that continues to enhance Atrium Health’s efforts to fulfill its mission of providing the best care to all during the current pandemic,” said Armando Chardiet, President of Atrium Health Foundation. “The Charlotte Knights organization has been a close friend of the Foundation since 2002, and we are extremely grateful for their recent $15,000 contribution to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund.”

As part of this initiative, the Knights have selected seven local Charlotte area nonprofits who were in need of some extra funding during these unprecedented times. Organizations receiving the allocated funds — a total of $40,000 — include Bright Blessings, Care Ring, Classroom Central, Promising Pages, Roof Above, Second Harvest Food Bank and A Child’s Place | Thompson Child & Family Focus. As part of the financial donations to these organizations, members of the team’s front office staff will also volunteer their time from August 3-10 during the club’s annual “Week of Giving” presented by Truist. The Knights’ front office staff committed to a goal of 500 community service hours through non-profits, blood drive contributions, and an educational outreach program as part of the Knights Care 4 CLT campaign. Fox Valley High School Senior All-Star Games at Neuroscience Group Field on August 2

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The area’s best high school seniors will take part in a series of All-Star games at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday, August 2 presented by Fox Communities Credit Union. An All-Day, General Admission pass will be available for $5 and fans will be asked to socially distance within the stadium to see live baseball.

The first game is scheduled to start at 1:00pm with Team Cardinal taking on Team Black. A second game to follow at 3:30pm with Team White against Team Gray. The winning teams from the first two games will play a third game at 6:00pm. Rosters of the teams are at the end of this release.

The parking lot will open at 11:00am with free parking. Neuroscience Group Field will open at noon. There will be concessions available during the games.

Jumbo Shrimp Youth Baseball Camp returns August 10-14

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a successful July camp in teaching the young fans of Crustacean Nation the fundamentals of baseball in a fun environment, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s Youth Baseball Camp is returning from 9 a.m.-noon during the week of August 10-14 at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Former college baseball players and Jumbo Shrimp staff members will teach children ages 5-12 right on the field of 121 Financial Ballpark. Campers will be served lunch daily upon the conclusion of camp, and each camper will receive a special camp T-shirt. Daily arrival begins at 8:30 a.m., with camp starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $200 per camper.

Camp size is limited to 30 attendees and camp groups will be divided by ages with groupings capped at 10 campers. Each group will have one coach and at least one counselor with them at all times. Campers are instructed to bring their own hats, gloves, bats, helmets, personal water bottles and flat tennis shoes – no cleats will be accepted.

Salem Red Sox to host senior baseball game featuring 63 players from 21 local high schools on August 1st

SALEM, Va. – On Saturday, August 1st, Salem Memorial Ballpark will open its’ gates to welcome 63 local high school senior baseball players along with their friends and family during The Last Inning. Comprised of 4 teams, sponsored by Coke, American National Bank, Kroger, & Guelich Capital Management, The Last Inning features players from 21 local area high schools.

“This game means a lot to me, being able to play with the other seniors in the valley one last time is going to be exciting,” said North Cross Senior, Nick Carey. “I am so thankful for everyone that organized this event. Not getting to play my senior year was very disappointing but this game is giving all of the seniors a chance to play that final game and have closure on our high school baseball career.”

Gates will open at 1:30p with Game 1 starting at 3p. “Senior Day” player recognition will occur in between games, with Game 2 beginning at 6:30p. The evening’s event will conclude with post-game fireworks. Players will receive the full-game experience with announcements, head shots, and jerseys provided by the Salem Red Sox.

“I personally have so many friends involved in this event. From coaches to parents of the seniors, each are super excited to have the opportunity to play in the game with their teammates and on Salem Memorial Field,” said Gary Walthall, retired William Byrd High School, Athletic Director. “The players are thankful for the chance to play and excited to see their friends again.”

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to provide final opportunity for high school seniors to PLAY BALL

 

KEIZER, OR. — 108 High School seniors, representing 48 different schools from across the State of Oregon, will be converging on Volcanoes Stadium the weekend of July 31, August 1, and August 2 – to play baseball!

“One of the most cherished events in High School baseball is Senior Day at the field. It’s usually the last home game of the season and provides a final recognition for the Senior players and their parents who have supported their efforts for so many years,” said Mickey Walker, CEO for the Volcanoes. “Covid-19 destroyed this emotional opportunity, along with all High School games, this year. We wanted to do something for the Seniors and providing them an opportunity to take the field again seemed to be the Perfect scenario,” concluded Walker.

“We feel a special attachment to High School players as we have hosted the OSAA State Baseball Championships, Spring Break Baseball Tournaments and Futures Game for many years at Volcanoes Stadium,” said Jerry Howard, the Senior Market Representative for the Volcanoes. “This is an opportunity to bid them farewell in an appropriate manner.”

Powerhouse Programs To Square Off Wednesday At FirstEnergy Stadium

Students from Wilson-West Lawn & Plymouth Whitemarsh will take the field

(READING, PA) – Two strong baseball programs are scheduled to play one another as a part of the Rip It Baseballtown Charities Showcase. Mays Sandwich Shop – Spring Township (Wilson-West Lawn) will face Colonial Baseball (Plymouth Whitemarsh) at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:30pm. Admission is free for all fans that wish to attend.

Both associated high school teams were projected to be major players in the PIAA this season and set to make it deep into the state championships. Last year, they made it into the final rounds so many players are hungry to compete once again.

Brady Gibble, a senior from Wilson, participated in the All-Star Senior Classic on Monday and will play in the game on Wednesday. He said this has been something to really look forward to. “I’m glad to have a game against a good opponent that we could have possibly seen if we played the season,” Gibble explained. “Plus, this is a great field, it never disappoints to play here.”

Wilson’s head coach, Sal Raccuglia says his team had high expectations for the 2020 season. They have all of the pieces and will be extremely competitive next season. A lot of the players have been staying in shape playing travel and legion ball.

Raccuglia is looking forward to playing at FirstEnergy Stadium. “I want to give a bunch of different guys the opportunity for experience and playing time,” he said. “The showcase will provide a sense of baseball normalcy.”

Chris Moreno, the head coach of the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials expressed his gratitude to the R-Phils for hosting this showcase. “This showcase is a great way to give the guys a moment to see what they have been working towards,” Moreno noted. “I think this is a major opportunity to get the team back together on the field in a beautiful historic ballpark.

When asked about playing against Wilson, Moreno said his team is bringing a pretty big roster and is excited for the chance to play against high caliber teams to see how they measure up. Their main goal was to get back to the level they were at last year and with some key pieces returning, expectations were high. In the meantime, the Colonials will enjoy playing some baseball under the lights during this showcase.

Wilson and PW have multiple seniors going on to further their education and baseball careers. While these graduating seniors have contributed much to their teams past successes, there are many players who will remain on the roster and have a positive impact. Both teams are expected to remain contenders in 2021.

This edition of Senior Night features two schools with rich histories in Summit and Stark counties and will begin with first pitch of the nine-inning game at 7:05 p.m. at the home of the Akron RubberDucks.

Berks Seniors Spend Memorable Night At First Energy Stadium

 

On Monday, July 13 the Berks County baseball seniors participated in the Rip It Baseballtown Charities All-Star Senior Classic. Players were honored before the game and competed in front of several hundred fans at FirstEnergy Stadium. A big thanks to EG Smith, Abilities in Motion, and Deer Country Farm & Lawn for sponsoring the nights action.

Twin Valley’s Trevor Laraia and Ryan Davis were excited for the opportunity. Davis noted the perfect field and evening for baseball. Laraia could not wait to get out and play as well. He explained, “I’ve been playing and competing against these kids for a while now so it’s nice to get to do it one last time.”

In the top of the fourth inning Reading’s Angel Velez starting off the scoring for the Red Team. He tripled to right field scoring Laraia and Governor Mifflin’s Danny Roesch. Laraia singled, while Roesch reached on a walk.

The Blue Team tied things up in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Fleetwood’s Zachary Sell tripled to score Muhlenberg’s K.J. Blanding. Jeb Kurtz from Daniel Boone then plated Sell on a sacrifice fly.

Things were quiet until the top of the ninth when the Red Team stirred some action. Reading’s Kristian Tirado walked and moved to second on a bunt from Hamburg’s Sean Evangelista. Gaige Brown (Muhlenberg) reached on an error and slid in to second due to defensive indifference. Tanner Vanderslice from Daniel Boone walked to load the bases. The MVP of the night belonged to Reading’s Nomar Torres when he shot a hard liner up the middle to score Tirado and Brown. With Davis at the plate, an error from the catcher allowed Vanderslice to score the third run of the inning, making it 5-2 in favor of the Red Team.

Both teams rotated players in and out so every senior had an opportunity to showcase their skills on the professional ball field.

The game was an important moment for some competitors who may have played their final game of baseball. Others will pursue the sport at a higher level, playing in different divisions of college ball. A few seniors will get the opportunity to play again in the Rip It Baseballtown Charities Showcase happening throughout July, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14, with a double header. Jumbo Shrimp Youth Baseball Camp runs from July 20-24

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are offering young fans of Crustacean Nation the chance to learn the fundamentals of baseball in a fun environment. The club’s Youth Baseball Camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon during the week of July 20-24 at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Former college baseball and softball players and Jumbo Shrimp staff members will teach children ages 5-12 right on the field of 121 Financial Ballpark. Campers will be served lunch daily upon the conclusion of camp, and each camper will receive a special camp T-shirt. Daily arrival begins at 8:30 a.m., with camp starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $200 per camper.

In accordance with city and state health officials, face coverings are mandatory for all Jumbo Shrimp employees, coaches and counselors. Camp groups will be divided by ages with groupings capped at 10 campers. Each group will have one coach and one counselor with them at all times.

Campers are instructed to bring their own hats, gloves, bats, personal water bottles and flat tennis shoes – no cleats will be accepted.

Hot Rods to Host High School Senior Showcase Presented by Reed Law Group

 

BOWLING GREEN BALLPARK (Bowling Green, KY) — The Bowling Green Hot Rods have scheduled a Senior Showcase game for Saturday July 25th at Bowling Green Ballpark. The game is presented by Reed Law Group and will feature area high school baseball players who missed out on their senior season.

“We wanted to provide an opportunity for all the area High School Seniors to have a proper send off.” Said Hot Rods General Manager and COO Eric C. Leach. “We are going to do it up right with headshots, video board, promotions, and post-game fireworks. These players deserve a chance to play one final game and have our great community support them.”

Tickets will go on sale Thursday July 16th to the general public and will cost $10 per reserved seat. With the COVID-19 restrictions, capacity will be 1,500 people. Suites will be available for $250 and include 18 tickets.

“It is a privilege for Reed Law Group to help to provide this special group of seniors with one final chance to lace up their spikes and take the field’, said Ryan Reed, owner of Reed Law Group. “We believe strongly in moving people forward during challenging times. The gates will open up at 5:30 for the general public and first pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm. Vette City Catering will have concessions stands open and all the traditional ballpark favorites available. The fireworks spectacular will immediately follow the game.

Fans coming to Bowling Green Ballpark can expect to follow the following guidelines: Socially distant seating (each available seat will be marked), masks to worn into the ballpark and in all common areas, a temperature screening upon entering the ballpark, and hand sanitizing stations located throughout the ballpark. The Van Meter Axles Adventure land and the Graves Gilbert Clinic Carousel will not be open for sanitary purposes. The Graves Gilbert Splash Pad will be open as the water is all freshly treated.

The Rick Herrema Foundation To Receive $10,000 Donation for Summer Camps

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Playing, learning, and growing: that’s what summer camp is all about at The Rick Herrema Foundation’s 50 acre green space called ‘Rick’s Place,’ located just minutes from Fort Bragg. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers are proud to give a donation of $10,000 to The Rick Herrema Foundation for camp participants to enjoy three weeks of activities, without the extra worry or burden of expenses and safety concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Woodpeckers presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to The Rick Herrema Foundation from their primary outreach program of the club’s official team charity, The Community Leaders Program, which focuses on military and youth sports causes. This donation will sponsor the supplies and activities budget for the upcoming three weeks of summer camps. With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Rick Herrema Foundation is elevating safety and sanitation measures to protect the campers and their well-being, while having fun in an outdoor, safety-conscious environment. The summer camps are specifically designed for children with military connections, ages 8 to 14 years old. This summer, campers will learn survival skills, land navigation, ax throwing, and wood working, as well as other fun, socially distant activities during their time at Rick’s Place. 2020 Charlotte Area High School Senior All-Star Classic presented by Truist

 

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Charlotte Knights are pleased to announce that the 2020 Charlotte Area High School Senior All-Star Classic presented by Truist will take place on Thursday, July 9 at Truist Field. First pitch of the game is set for 4:30 PM. Gates will be closed to the general public.

“We are pleased to be able to host this great game,” stated Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. “This will be a special day for all of these athletes, their families, and the Charlotte community. We look forward to a memorable day at the ballpark on Thursday.”

The Charlotte High School Varsity League, which features about 100 players from a dozen area local high schools, was formed last month after the high school baseball season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league, which fielded six teams, played games in Matthews and Huntersville in June and early July. The All-Star Classic will give the seniors in the league the chance to play their last prep game at one of the premier baseball venues in the country, Truist Field.
