Potomac Nationals Announce 10th Annual Prince William County Middle School Day

April 18, 2017

Woodbridge, VA— The Potomac Nationals, in cooperation with Prince William County Schools and the Education Foundation for Prince William County Schools, S.P.A.R.K, are excited to host the 10th annual Prince William County Middle School Day at Pfitzner Stadium on Wednesday morning. A special 10:35am first pitch is scheduled to accommodate every Prince William County Middle School who wants to attend. At the game, students and teachers get a chance to enjoy some day baseball, while learning about a career in sports.

Middle School Day has been a tradition in Prince William County and at Pfitzner Stadium for over a decade, and the Potomac Nationals are dedicated to supporting PWCS for many years to come. Over 25,000 students have participated in this event since its inception and the P-Nats strive to make an impact on our young citizens by offering them an annual field trip to The Pfitz with an educational component. Over 2,500 students are expected to be in attendance on Wednesday morning. Students receive a complimentary ticket to the game and complimentary lunch.

Our main focus here at the Pfitz is fun, and throughout the game, every student gets a chance to learn directly from P-Nats staff about their various jobs and opportunities in baseball. Video interviews of Potomac Nationals front office members are regularly played between innings, explaining the puzzle pieces that make up a sports franchise. The P-Nats support students progressing through to the end goal of any career, both in and out of sports, and every member of the organization is available to all of our local students for advice and guidance through middle school and beyond. We hire PWC students as early as age 14 to work a variety of jobs during game days. The majority of our game day operations would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our high school students. The Potomac Nationals will always support PWCS and our students as we work in conjunction with the PWCS to create the greatest possible future for all of our children in PW County. We hope to continue to impact our students’ lives at our new ballpark, planned for Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge.

This event is also one of many opportunities for the P-Nats to support our military. Members of the United States Air Force COMM Squadron East- North Capital Region will volunteer, preparing lunches and operating our concession stand before and during the game. After the game, the P-Nats will make a donation to the group as a thank you for their help at the stadium and for their service in the United States Air Force.

About The American Veterans Ball
The Salute to The American Veterans Ball was created to provide “all” Veterans of “all” the Armed Forces to participate in an annual service ball similar to our active components. The most common denominator that we’d discovered was that once veterans transitioned out of their respective service components there were often times an immediate disconnection with such a traditional and customary event of shared comradeship. Despite this disconnection they still live out the values and way of life instilled in them as patriotic veterans. An evening to reignite, connect with, and to celebrate our patriotism with our fellow brothers and sisters through this unique event for years to come. PotomacNationals_2014-02-28

Woodbridge, VA-The Potomac Nationals have donated their Pfitzner Stadium field tarp to the University of Mary Washington Baseball program (Fredericksburg, Virginia) in an ongoing effort to bolster the resources of amateur and collegiate baseball in the Northern Virginia region.

The University of Mary Washington Eagles compete in the Division III Capital Athletic Conference at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium and will play 29 regular-season home games in 2014.

Dickinson Stadium holds a seating capacity of over 1,000 fans and is one of the finest facilities in all of NCAA Baseball.

“Any time the Potomac Nationals can positively impact another baseball program in our community, our club is going to jump at that opportunity. We are glad to donate our field tarp to the University of Mary Washington Baseball program, and we trust it will complement their terrific facility in a way that will minimize the amount of games postponed or lost due to the elements,” said Potomac Nationals Vice President/General Manager, Josh Olerud.

University of Mary Washington Baseball Head Coach, Wayne Riser reached out to the Nationals in advance of the Eagles’ home opener on February 15th to inquire about the availability of the Potomac Nationals’ field tarp.

“Everyone involved with our program is immensely appreciative of the generosity of the Potomac Nationals and especially the efforts of Mr. Olerud,” said UMW Head Coach, Wayne Riser.

“This tarp will benefit UMW Baseball student-athletes for years to come and is a great boost to our program.”

Riser coordinated with Olerud to arrange for members of the University of Mary Washington Baseball team to make the drive from Fredericksburg to Woodbridge to load the tarp on a flat-bed vehicle and haul it back to the Home of the Eagles.

“We are grateful to the Potomac Nationals for their recent donation of a tarp for our baseball facility,” said UMW Director of Athletics Ken Tyler.

“We appreciate the club’s generosity and engagement with UMW Athletics, and we hope our student-athletes and fans will support the Potomac Nationals this season.”

The University of Mary Washington Baseball team is off to a red-hot (4-1) start to the 2014 campaign and is riding a four-game winning streak as of February 28th.

P-Nats Front Office Raises 2K to Support “Movember”

December 16, 2013

Team Nationals Mo Bros’ Network Ushered in $2,000 Towards Global Charity, Movember

PotomacNationals_2013-12-16

Woodbridge, VA-In support of Movember, a global charity which raises funds and awareness to assist in proliferating men’s health, male members of the Potomac Nationals front office along with their female counterparts, dubbed Mo Sistas, are proud to announce its Team Nationals Mo Bros yielded a $2,000 donation to support the Movember movement.

Throughout Movember, the P-Nats front office encouraged Nationals fans, family, friends, colleagues, and business partners to join this worldwide initiative in an effort to place the spotlight on men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer as well as mental health challenges.

By wearing a mustache for an entire month, Team Nationals Mo Bros members were able to spark a conversation about the Movember charity, and in turn its purpose and impact, while soliciting funds to support this great cause.

Those who donated then grew their own “Mo” and spread the network’s Movember message.

From one mustache to another, funds were sprouted that will be used to facilitate Movember’s effort to catalyze the awareness and education of men’s health issues across the world.

“In Minor League Baseball, I’ve been a part of many fundraising efforts, and in this case, Movember was certainly a terrific way for our staff to raise funds for a great cause, and through their excellent effort, we were able to hit our donation goal,” said Potomac Nationals Vice President/General Manager, Josh Olerud.

“We had a blast participating, and it was a great way to boost off-season cohesion among our front office members. We look forward to building off our first Movember, and creatively we will get even more fans involved next year.”

To generate the Movember buzz among members of the P-Nats fan base, the Nationals rewarded their faithful for donating to the charity with prize packages that included 2014 Opening Day tickets, Pfitzner Stadium food vouchers, P-Nats hats, first pitch opportunities, and player autographs.

As Movember organizers tally the final global contribution to the movement from over 200,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas which is expected to be in excess of $20 million, the Potomac Nationals are counting down to the start of Movember 2014 which is only ten and a half months away.

ABOUT MOVEMBER

An official global charity, Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches on men’s faces around the world. Through the power of the Mo, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

The pilot program will begin with Northern Virginia’s Potomac Nationals and, if successful, will expand to the other Carolina League teams throughout the season.

“Those of us who have been in baseball a long time know the value of veterans as employees, and we are happy to share this experience with our fans and business partners. We are very proud that our Potomac club and the Army have taken this step, and I expect to be taking this initiative league-wide in the near future,” said John Hopkins, Carolina League President.

A Field of Dreams for Middle School Clubs

May 13, 2009

On Tuesday afternoon, two local middle school teams from Prince William County took to the field to live out one of their lifelong dreams of one day playing their favorite game on a professional baseball field.

That dream was realized when St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School took on Manassas Christian School in front of hundreds of family and friends from G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium, the home of the defending Carolina League champion Potomac Nationals.

As an added bonus, the participating players got to watch some of their favorite P-Nats players prior to their game as the Nationals hosted the Salem Red Sox in a Business Persons’ special that featured an 11:00 a.m. start time.

Aquinas jumped out to an early lead scoring a 1st inning run and the score would remain 1-0 until the bottom half of the 4th. The bats then came alive for Manassas Christian as they scored eight times in that frame and wound up pulling away with an 8-2 victory over their neighbors from Woodbridge.

In the end, the final score wasn’t the most important set of numbers that were posted on the scoreboard. As part of a fundraiser set up by each institution, the players involved sold a total of 250 tickets (125 each) to their loved ones so that they could share in the experience of seeing their sons and daughters play our national pastime on the same field where future Nationals’ all-stars are born.

The Potomac Nationals offer several ticket deals that accommodate groups of 20 or more. P-Nats Ticket Fundraisers are an excellent way to generate revenue for your non-profit organization. Organizations such as Little Leagues, civic organizations, churches, schools and charities will enjoy great benefits such as: video board and public address recognition, group names printed on tickets, and at least 50% profit on each ticket sold. For more information, call (703) 590-2311.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams were happy to play their favorite game at Pfitzner Stadium. (Potomac Nationals)
