Bulls & WGU North Carolina Announce Military Appreciation Event

The Durham Bulls announced today the launch of a recognition program in partnership with WGU North Carolina and the USO of North Carolina, to provide a unique, special experience for active military and their families.

Beginning Monday, the Bulls will host pre-registered military families at Durham Bulls Athletic Park and provide the opportunity to take batting practice, play catch in the outfield, enjoy yard games or just breathe in the fresh air for a 45-minute session, underneath the stadium lights.

“We are extremely happy to be able to offer these military families a special experience at the ballpark,” said Nick Bavin, Director of Corporate Partnerships at the Durham Bulls. “We are always grateful for the sacrifice these individuals and their families make for us, so we’re excited to be able to play a part in putting a smile on their faces during these trying times.”

“As a military spouse, I know firsthand that opportunities like these are greatly appreciated,” said WGU North Carolina Chancellor Catherine Truitt. “We look forward to hosting these families for a memorable experience of a lifetime.”

In addition to the on-field experience, the event will also serve as a ‘Back to School’ kickoff with WGU North Carolina providing school supplies to the children in attendance.

Money Raised Through “IN This Together” T-Shirt Sales

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne TinCaps are proud to have donated $10,000 to the Parkview Foundations, as a way of expressing support and appreciation for healthcare workers during the fight against COVID-19. The money was raised through the sales of special edition TinCaps “IN This Together” t-shirts.

“We’re glad to support healthcare workers in our community while they’re protecting us during these uncertain times,” said Michael Limmer, TinCaps Vice President for Marketing and Promotions. “In addition to our tremendous appreciation for our healthcare heroes, we also send gratitude to all of our fans who purchased an ‘IN This Together’ t-shirt.”

Parkview Health is a not-for-profit health system. As a 501(c)(3), Parkview Foundations accept tax-deductible donations. These fund essential needs such as new equipment, enhanced health services, outreach programs, the expansion of medical facilities, access to medication, and assistance to patients and their families. 100% of every gift made through Parkview Foundations is used to benefit patients, their families, and the care received at Parkview Health locations.

The t-shirts, which were produced by _18 Threads_, a Fort Wayne-based custom print apparel shop, are green and read “TinCaps” across the chest. While the team’s primary logo features a red apple at the center, this design substituted in a red heart. Below that is the phrase “IN This Together,” part of a statewide campaign to promote social distancing to keep Hoosiers healthy and return Indiana to normal social interactions and business operations. Nearly 1,000 shirts were sold from late April through late June.

Fans can continue to support the Parkview Foundations thanks to a partnership that allows tax-deductible monetary donations to be used to provide TinCaps Meal Kits to Parkview Health frontline workers. Emeralds and Kendall to Host Be a Hero Drive

On Wednesday, August 19th the Eugene Emeralds and Kendall Toyota are inviting the Eugene/Springfield community to become superheroes through their Be a Hero Drive. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. community members will be able to donate blood, join the bone marrow registry and learn about organ donation. They will be joined by members from American Red Cross, Be the Match and Donate Life NW at Kendall Toyota of Eugene.

The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be on site to collect blood donation. Donating blood products is essential to community health and the need for blood products is constant. Additionally, the Red Cross is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The Red Cross has added safety precautions to the drive to ensure the health and safety of all who attend. This will include a temperature screening, enhanced disinfecting of areas and social distancing wherever possible. They are also asking donors to sign up for a pre-scheduled appointment at redcrossblood.org/give, instead of walking in, as to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. All blood types are needed, and people who have never donated before are encouraged to donate. Donors must be 17 years old or older, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health.

Seventy percent of blood cancer patients requiring a marrow transplant are waiting for a match through the Bone Marrow Registry. It is normally 1 in 300 of those who register will be matched with those in need. Be the Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. They will be on site collecting volunteers to be listed as a potential blood stem cell donor, ready to save the life of any patient in need of a transplant through a quick cheek swab.

Another way members can Be a Hero is to register to be an organ donor through Donate Life NW. Of the almost 120,000 Americans waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, more than 3,000 live in the Pacific Northwest.

“This was an event we had planned for one of our games this summer,” said Anne Culhane, Director of Community Relations. “These are three amazing, lifesaving programs that rely on volunteers so we wanted to move forward with this drive.”

Individuals not feeling well or who are exhibiting any symptoms, which include fever, tiredness and dry cough should stay home. Donors will be asked to wear a mask while attending this event.

Baseball is back and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are inviting fans to show off their game faces! Fans can submit their photo and have a cutout placed in the stands at Coca-Cola Park for the Philadelphia Phillies Taxi Squad intra-squad games. The IronPigs are encouraging fans to showcase their favorite IronPigs or Phillies gear! Net proceeds will be donated to IronPigs Charities presented by Air Products. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE YOURS!

Blue Wahoos Help Recognize Two Area Scholarship Winners In MiLB Rising Stars Program

A partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida enabled the Blue Wahoos to help celebrate national recognition for two area high school graduates.

Dashawn Appleberry from Rocky Bayou Christian School in Niceville, along with Rhett Hardy from Pine Forest High School, were both recipients of Rising Star Student awards for $500 through a scholarship program with Minor League Baseball and the national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

They were among 20 winners nationwide in a program MILB Charities founded in 2016 for deserving BBBS student enrollees in Minor League Baseball communities across the nation. A partnership began in 2004 with the national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and Minor League Baseball.

“Think of this, there are 162 teams (in MiLB) and there are 20 scholarships,” said Blue Wahoos owner Quint Studer, who participated in a Zoom conference call Monday to honor the two area seniors. “So that means one out of every eight teams could possibly get somebody to be named a winner and we have two.

“On behalf of the Blue Wahoos, we would like to thank Minor League Baseball…we’re just carrying a message. It is wonderful testimony to the quality of applicants we have right here (in Northwest Florida).”

Appleberry, whose family moved to the area from New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina’s wrath in 2005, will be the first from his family to attend college. He will begin classes later this month at Florida State where he will major in Computer Science.

He graduated with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average. He has been mentored by his Big Brother Richard for the past 10 years.

Hardy, who was a member of the Pine Forest baseball team, attained a 4.87 GPA and will attend the University of Florida where he will major in Biomedical Engineering. He has spent three years with his Big Brother mentor, shadowing him once a month in a School To Work program at Navy Federal Credit Union.

“They both blew it out of the park, no pun intended, to apply for this scholarship,” said Dana Hall, director of development for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida. “We are so excited they were selected. This is going to help them kick-start their next adventure.”

Appleberry and Hardy are classified as “Littles” in the BBBS program. Their mentors are business employees in the community and classified as “Bigs”.

“We have done several events with the Blue Wahoos…recruitment events, spirit nights, a Big/Little first pitch,” Hall said. “We have been incredible partners with Blue Wahoos.

“So when this opportunity came out from our national office, we really wanted to encourage all of our Big Brothers to get with their Little Big Brother/Sister and apply for this scholarship.”

The MILB partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters included scholarship stipends to graduating seniors who start college this fall semester. The application process included either a written essay submitted online or a video presentation of qualifications.

“I’m very grateful I was one of the few who got picked,” said Appleberry during the Zoom video conference.

“I want to thank everybody who helped get me this scholarship,” said Hardy, who was a member of the National Honor Society at Pine Forest.

Hall thanked Studer and the Blue Wahoos for all the support the team has provided during the nine years of the franchise. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year as part of the national organization.

“Quint is a huge advocate of not only our mission, but just mentoring in general,” Hall said. “The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have done so many things in our community. Even with the pandemic going on, they have gone above and beyond with just giving us a little sense of normalcy and still bringing the community together.”

Senior Spotlight Series Rolls On At Canal Park With Two Midweek Senior Night Games August 4th & 6th

(AKRON, OHIO) July 31, 2020 – The Akron RubberDucks are thrilled to host two more games in this summer’s socially-distant Senior Spotlight Series at Canal Park featuring teams from all over Northeast Ohio. On August 4th the Brunswick Blue Devils will square off with the seniors from Highland and Barberton high schools, while on August 6th Cuyahoga Falls and Woodridge will take a trip down Route 8 to face off one more time at Canal Park.

Each game will be a traditional seven-inning exhibition with gates opening to fans at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch at 6:05 p.m. at the home of the Akron RubberDucks. Both games will be broadcast live on the radio at 640 WHLO, the new home for Akron RubberDucks baseball, beginning at 6 p.m. These games mark the sixth and seventh Senior Spotlight games to be held at Canal Park this summer.

These games will offer student-athletes from the class of 2020 a way to celebrate Senior Night together after the high school spring sports season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This senior night will certainly be memorable as players will have their pictures on the video board and pregame celebrations will commemorate the occasion.

“This obviously isn’t the way these student-athletes envisioned their senior seasons playing out, but we are excited to offer them one last opportunity to take the field wearing their school’s colors,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander, “This summer we have made sure to safely offer this opportunity to our community and we are so excited to celebrate these student-athletes in their final game. “

The Akron RubberDucks will continue to follow all social distancing protocols as outlined by Gov. DeWine, Mayor Horrigan, and state and local health officials. The attendance for each event will be limited to 1,000 fans at Canal Park, socially distanced within the seating bowl.

Baseballtown Charities Night Golf Set for September 12

The Reading Fightin Phils and Baseballtown Charities prepare to host their annual night golf event presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. The golf classic will be nine holes played at Manor Golf Club and the event will benefit a great cause in Baseballtown Charities.

Night Golf will be held on September 12 with registration beginning at 7pm and the walk starting at 8:15 pm. The classic will be played as a scramble event in foursomes. The registration fee is $300 and includes 1 glow ball, light saber, glow necklace, and hot dog/ chip voucher along with all you care to drink. There will be extra glow balls available to purchase.

Sponsorship packages are also available. There are different levels of packages for all types of recognition ranging from presenting sponsor to a one-hole sponsorship. They also include prominent signage, banner display, award presentation, and social media acknowledgment.

The Reading Fightin Phils and Classic Harley-Davidson are bringing back Harley Night on Thursday, August 6th during their Party With A Purpose event. The night will begin with the annual ride from Classic Harley and the fun will continue at the ballpark. Enjoy live music, your favorite ballpark food & drinks, and a catch on the outfield!

This season would have been the 23rd Annual Harley Night. The R-Phils have found a way to continue the tradition this summer! The ride from Classic Harley in Leesport at 5:30 and end at FirstEnergy Stadium.

“Knights Care 4 CLT” Raised Over $125,000

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) — The Charlotte Knights are pleased to announce that the team’s “Knights Care 4 CLT” initiative, which was launched back on April 15, has raised over $125,000 and the team will now disperse the funds to those affected by COVID-19. With help from a $75,000 donation from naming rights partner, Truist, and additional contributions from Charlotte Knights Charities, sponsors and fans, the team will donate those funds to healthcare workers, seven local-area charities, and Knights’ employees (part-time, game-day, and full-time) who are in need.

“As this pandemic continues to affect so many in our community, we are very pleased to begin dispersing these much-needed funds to those who need some help,” stated Dan Rajkowski, Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer. “We are so thankful to Truist, as well as our generous partners and fans who helped us raise these funds for those in need. Baseball has a way of bringing communities together and we hope that we are able to help those in the community who have been affected by this difficult time in our nation’s history.”

In addition to the funds dispersed to Knights’ displaced employees due to COVID-19 from the cancellation of the 2020 season, the team is also contributing $15,000 from the “Knights Care 4 CLT” fund to Atrium Health, one of the team’s founding partners.

Rajkowski added, “In the face of this pandemic, our healthcare workers rose to the challenge and continued to care for our community in this time of need. As a part of our Knights Care 4 CLT campaign, we are very pleased to donate a portion of the funds to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund, addressing PPE and supply shortages.”

“It’s generous support from community partners like the Charlotte Knights that continues to enhance Atrium Health’s efforts to fulfill its mission of providing the best care to all during the current pandemic,” said Armando Chardiet, President of Atrium Health Foundation. “The Charlotte Knights organization has been a close friend of the Foundation since 2002, and we are extremely grateful for their recent $15,000 contribution to the Atrium Health Essential Needs Fund.”

As part of this initiative, the Knights have selected seven local Charlotte area nonprofits who were in need of some extra funding during these unprecedented times. Organizations receiving the allocated funds — a total of $40,000 — include Bright Blessings, Care Ring, Classroom Central, Promising Pages, Roof Above, Second Harvest Food Bank and A Child’s Place | Thompson Child & Family Focus. As part of the financial donations to these organizations, members of the team’s front office staff will also volunteer their time from August 3-10 during the club’s annual “Week of Giving” presented by Truist. The Knights’ front office staff committed to a goal of 500 community service hours through non-profits, blood drive contributions, and an educational outreach program as part of the Knights Care 4 CLT campaign. To date, the Knights have given 550+ hours back to the community through various in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities..

Fox Valley High School Senior All-Star Games at Neuroscience Group Field on August 2

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The area’s best high school seniors will take part in a series of All-Star games at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday, August 2 presented by Fox Communities Credit Union. An All-Day, General Admission pass will be available for $5 and fans will be asked to socially distance within the stadium to see live baseball.

The first game is scheduled to start at 1:00pm with Team Cardinal taking on Team Black. A second game to follow at 3:30pm with Team White against Team Gray. The winning teams from the first two games will play a third game at 6:00pm. Rosters of the teams are at the end of this release.

The parking lot will open at 11:00am with free parking. Neuroscience Group Field will open at noon. There will be concessions available during the games.

The Akron RubberDucks will continue to follow all social distancing protocols as outlined by Gov. DeWine, Mayor Horrigan, and state and local health officials. The attendance for each event will be limited to 1,000 fans at Canal Park, socially distanced within the seating bowl.

TICKETS

Tickets to this event are available for $10 and can be purchased online at www.akronrubberducks.com or by directly contacting the Akron RubberDucks sales team at (330) 253-5151 or [email protected]. Each fan in attendance will need to present their ticket—either printed in advance or displayed on a mobile device—at their designated point of entry into the ballpark with all members of their party together at the time of entry.

INSIDE THE BALLPARK

No outside food or beverage is permitted, but Canal Park concessions will be available for purchase via CASHLESS purchases. All guests at Canal Park will be required to wear face coverings at all times, except while sitting in their assigned, socially-distanced seating location.

Jumbo Shrimp Youth Baseball Camp returns August 10-14

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a successful July camp in teaching the young fans of Crustacean Nation the fundamentals of baseball in a fun environment, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s Youth Baseball Camp is returning from 9 a.m.-noon during the week of August 10-14 at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Former college baseball players and Jumbo Shrimp staff members will teach children ages 5-12 right on the field of 121 Financial Ballpark. Campers will be served lunch daily upon the conclusion of camp, and each camper will receive a special camp T-shirt. Daily arrival begins at 8:30 a.m., with camp starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $200 per camper.

Camp size is limited to 30 attendees and camp groups will be divided by ages with groupings capped at 10 campers. Each group will have one coach and at least one counselor with them at all times. Campers are instructed to bring their own hats, gloves, bats, helmets, personal water bottles and flat tennis shoes – no cleats will be accepted.

In accordance with city and state health officials, face coverings are mandatory for all Jumbo Shrimp employees, coaches and counselors. Drop off/check will require all to be in face coverings and include temperature checks for all campers and all family members wishing to enter and stay to watch camp.

Cardinals, American National to honor local Non-Profit Heroes

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Cardinals are excited to partner with American National Insurance on a new program called Non-Profit Heroes to recognize local non-profit organizations that have stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Non-Profit Heroes, presented by American National Insurance, is set to launch on July 27 and will give the public two weeks to submit nominations online at SpringfieldCardinals.com/heroes. All nominees should be local Southwest Missouri non-profit organizations who have made an impact on our community during COVID-19.

Once the nomination period ends, the Cardinals will recognize one hero organization per week for eight weeks on SpringfieldCardinals.com and on all Cardinals social media platforms. All selected heroes will receive a digital media spotlight and an array of prizes to reward their efforts.

Timber Rattlers to Host Blood Drive on August 1

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Community Blood Center will set up their Mobile Blood Center in the parking lot at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday, August 1 to take donations between 8:00am and noon.

Those interested in donating must make an appointment at this link or by calling 800-280-4102.

Fans who donate will receive one general admission ticket for a regular season Timber Rattlers game in 2021 and a Timber Rattlers souvenir gift from a past season.
