Dozer Park to Host Concert for the City on July 2

 

Peoria, IL— The Peoria Chiefs, in conjunction with the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service, First Baptist Church of Peoria, and Connect Church of Washington, are teaming up to present a Concert for the City on Saturday, July 2.

Peoria native Victor Solomon will be joined by Jordan Feliz, a top-selling Christian pop artist, whose 2015 song “The River,” reached the top spot on Billboard Magazine’s Christian Airplay chart. A fireworks show will follow the concert. Gates open at 6:00 p.m., with Solomon taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Feliz will perform at approximately 7:30 p.m.

A 2017 graduate of Peoria High School, Solomon burst onto the national scene last year, when he finished fifth on NBC’s “The Voice.” This will mark his second performance at Dozer Park, after he performed the national anthem at a Chiefs game last season.

Feliz plays a folk rock/soul style of Christian pop. He was named the New Artist of the Year at the 2016 GMA Dove Awards. Feliz has released four studio albums, including “Future,” which served as Billboard’s top Christian album the week of April 7, 2018.

General admission tickets start at $25. For larger groups, the concourse party areas will be available. Tickets for the concourse areas are $30 per person, with a capacity limit of 40 people. The first base party deck, which can accommodate up to 75 guests, and the third base party deck, which can welcome 100 patrons, will also be available for purchase. Tickets for both party decks start at $35 per person. Additionally, Dozer Park’s 18 luxury suites are available for rental.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service, a local not-for-profit dedicated to empowering families by giving them hope and a path for prosperity.

Gwinnett Stripers to Host Virtual National Anthem Auditions

 

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Gwinnett Stripers are once again launching a virtual search for National Anthem performers.

All interested singers, vocal groups (five singers or less), and musicians can send a digital submission (video or audio) of their acapella or unaccompanied performance of the National Anthem to [email protected] by January 31.

Candidates will be judged on tone, pace (90 seconds or less), and clarity. Beginning in February, top candidates will be invited to participate in virtual auditions. No in-person auditions will be held. Those who have been chosen from the virtual auditions will be contacted to schedule a date to sing the National Anthem during the 2022 season.

National Anthem Auditions

 

Bradenton, Fla. – The Pittsburgh Pirates are accepting auditions for the National Anthem. Anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner or O Canada prior to a Pirates Spring Training game in 2022 may submit a video or a YouTube link to be considered. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of a camera and performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more. Submissions are also open to choirs. All submissions must be conducted a cappella.

Pirates employees will watch the videos and determine which performers to invite to fill open spots in the Spring Training schedule. Contestants that wish to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates game against Toronto are welcome to sing O Canada as well. Participants that submit videos but are not selected will have their information kept on file for potential anthem openings during the Bradenton Marauders season.

Registration Underway for National Anthem Tryouts

 

DAYTON, OHIO – A traditional sign that baseball season is just around the corner in the Miami Valley is National Anthem Tryouts, presented by the Dayton Daily News. Auditions for this summer’s national anthem performers will be VIRTUAL on the Dragons website.

Audition videos, which are being accepted in lieu of in-person auditions this year, can be submitted beginning Monday, January 10, and should be uploaded at www.daytondragons.com/nationalanthem.

Finalists will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing on Opening Day 2022 before the Dragons host the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Friday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m.

In addition, 25 national anthem finalists will be selected to not only sing to a sold-out crowd at Day Air Ballpark, but also to the entire Miami Valley region! These individuals or groups will perform LIVE on the Dragons television broadcast for 25 games during the 2022 season – games are broadcast on WDTN’s Dayton CW.

Deadline to apply is Friday, February 11, 2022.

Wahoos Octoberfest Is Month-Long Array Of Popular Community Events 

 

The field transformation at Blue Wahoos Stadium into a football venue has ushered another change, which has evolved in recent years.

It’s now viewed in a different realm as a fall events place.

From the annual Soul Bowl youth football event on Saturday (Oct. 2), it begins the stadium’s own version of an Octoberfest.

Events in the month include a specialty Bingo Night on Oct. 7, the First City Art Center Pumpkin Patch on Oct. 9, a first-time appearance by the Nitro Circus motorcycle stunt riders on Oct. 14, the Light Up Learning gala on Oct. 21, a Halloween weekend event (Oct. 29), along with University of West Florida football games on Oct 16 and Oct .23, plus high school homecoming parties.

“There’s not a weekend — from now until the end of the year — that we don’t have something going on,” said Shannon Reeves, the Blue Wahoos events manager. “Either on a Friday, a Saturday, a Sunday or on multiple days the same weekend.

“I see more people interested in booking something at the stadium. It’s become a place where a lot of people can get together in a safe way.”

It’s now approaching 20 months into the coronavirus pandemic and its effect and reshape of the entertainment and sports world. After making a quick pivot a year ago in a 2020 summer without baseball, the Blue Wahoos have continued to find the ballpark viewed as a safe haven for events.

A full October calendar at the stadium is proof of that.

“COVID showed us a lot about what we can do here,” said Blue Wahoos president Jonathan Griffith. “We were doing movie nights, dinner nights, bingo nights, trivia nights (in 2020) and I think it gives people an option during COVID as far as having a place to go that is outdoors and a safe environment.

“I think that is still a thing for us. Especially among a lot of non-profit organizations, who are having their events here. You don’t get any more open air than Blue Wahoos Stadium.

“Even in our version of a suite area, the Hancock Whitney Club, it is open air. So no matter where you are, as far as a event, this is a great place to have that. And having Shannon Reeves to drive that has been great.”

Whether it’s through baseball games or special events without connection to sports, the stadium has provided the Blue Wahoos options to meet the quest for year-round activities.

It is something baseball team owners Quint and Rishy Studer wanted to ensure when pitching a multiuse stadium project more than a decade ago.

“Quint built the stadium as a community space and my job is to keep it a community space and pack these events in here,” Reeves said. “With our Blue Wahoos staff, we have all these fantastic minds coming together about. ‘let’s do this or have that.’

“Just super creative minds in the community to bring these events to our stadium.”

The First City Art Center Pumpkin Patch event moved to Blue Wahoos Stadium last year. Thousands of pumpkins were sold. It was the first time all pumpkins were sold. This year, a couple thousand people are expected for the day-long Oct. 9 event.

“I started here four years ago, and really not a lot of people knew about our events,” Reeves said. “In the last four years our team has come together and we’ve turned the stadium into a space where we’re holding everything under the sun here.

“And with that comes different audiences. When you host a variety of events, it brings a variety of new eyes, new audiences and this new awareness of, ‘Oh my gosh, look at what they can do here.’

“So it’s not just seen as a baseball stadium. We’ve really worked to make it a year-round events center.”

River Cats now accepting national anthem video submissions

 

West Sacramento, Calif. – The Sacramento River Cats are now accepting national anthem video submissions for the 2021 season. If selected, artists will have their rendition aired on the Sutter Health Park video board during pregame ceremonies of a River Cats home game.

All artists – whether soloists, groups, or instrumentalists – must submit their anthem performances no later than Sunday, May 2 in order to be considered for the 2021 season.

Fireflies Search for 2021 National Anthem Performers

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Fireflies today announced that fans can now audition to perform the National Anthem for Fireflies regular season home games in 2021. The Fireflies are seeking soloists and groups of all ages to perform the Anthem.

Auditions will not be in-person in 2021, as they have been in years past, to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Instead, those interested in auditioning can submit their audition tape online at ColumbiaFireflies.com. Those who have performed in the past must audition again.

Audition tapes must be submitted online via ColumbiaFireflies.com by the end of the day on Sunday, April 18**th**.

The Fireflies host 60 home games between May 11 and September 16. Performances during the season are not guaranteed to everyone that auditions. Those that are selected to perform will receive four complimentary tickets to the game for the night of their performance. Akron RubberDucks Set To Host Virtual Auditions For National Anthem Performers

 

(AKRON, OHIO) April 8, 2021 – The Akron RubberDucks are launching a virtual search for National Anthem performers for the 2021 season. All interested singers, vocal groups (five singers or fewer), and musicians must send a digital submission via video of their acapella or unaccompanied performance of the National Anthem no later than April 22nd.

Virtual submissions are the only way to audition for 2021 national anthem performances at Canal Park, no other arrangements can be made at this time. In-person auditions will return in 2022.

Performers can submit their auditions by sending their video, along with their name(s), address, and phone number to [email protected]. Digital submissions can be accepted via YouTube video, Vimeo, WeTransfer, or other transfer site that allows for downloading videos.

All virtual auditions must meet the following criteria:

  • All auditions must be no longer than two minutes
  • All participants are encouraged to use the highest possible audio and video recording available, within reason. Cell phone videos are perfectly acceptable. Please make sure the camera is steady, oriented horizontally, and that the performer(s) are shown clearly in the center of the shot if possible.
  • Auditions should be recorded in a well-lit area.
  • It is not required to have a clear or scenic background; however, an area free from distractions is best.
  • Duet and group auditions are acceptable, but all performers must abide by social distancing guidelines throughout the audition.

Sod Poodles To Host 2021 National Anthem Auditions at HODGETOWN

 

The Amarillo Sod Poodles will be hosting public auditions for National Anthem performances for the team’s 2021 season on Saturday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at HODGETOWN. Soloists, duets, and trios are invited to audition “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” for a chance to perform during the 2021 season.

Two winning participants will be determined by a panel of guest judges and will be given an opportunity to perform on either Opening Night or Independence Day (July 4). Many other individuals will be given opportunities to perform on additional game dates during the season. All participants will be contacted following the event.

Face coverings will be required for individuals two years or older at all times during the event. Face coverings may be removed temporarily when an individual has entered the audition room before singing/performing.

All vocal performances must be a cappella or accompanied by a personal instrument and only traditional renditions of songs will be considered for selection. Each performer may audition for either “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America” and will be considered for either song. Auditions will be performed in front of judges in a private, closed-off area during scheduled time slots.

Cardinals Teacher of the Month: Kevin Zimmerman, Harrison Elementary School

 

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Cardinals and Missouri Lottery are proud to announce Kevin Zimmerman of Harrison Elementary School as our February Teacher of the Month.

Mr. Zimmerman is an amazing art teacher! Students love coming to his class and look up to him as someone they would like to be when they grow up. On “normal” school years Mr. Zimmerman leads a running club for students which has a huge turn out. During these times he has still found a way to host an Art Club which provides students with a great after school activity.

Kevin has been an art teacher at Harrison Elementary since 2009 and was one of five finalists for the 2019-20 Springfield Public Schools Teacher of the Year award, where he described his views on his profession:

“Making connections is expressed in two ways for me, the personal, human connection that I develop with my students and the cross-curricular connection my art content makes with all other disciplines. When I say I ‘teach’ art, I really wish to say I teach a bit of everything. The more pathways the brain makes to a piece of information, the better the recall and the longer the information is held.”

A St. Louis native, Kevin attended Drury University. Beyond the classroom, he leads an art club and a running club at Harrison Elementary that provide students with after-school activities and growth opportunities.

“Mr. Zimmerman is an amazing art teacher,” one Teacher of the Year nominator wrote. “Students love coming to his class and look up to him as someone they would like to be when they grow up.”

All auditions must be submitted in video form. Audio files, tapes, or CDs will not be accepted. Videos will only be accepted as a downloadable file or video link such as YouTube or Google Drive. Videos recorded from mobile devices are also acceptable. In-person auditions will not be available for 2021.

In addition to the audition video, all submissions must include the National Anthem audition application, which can be downloaded here. Performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” are not to exceed two minutes. All vocal auditions must be performed a cappella (no musical accompaniment). Instrumental performances will be accepted. Those who audition in groups must include all members in the audition video.

Videos and the completed application can be emailed to [email protected]. All National Anthem auditions for 2021 must be submitted by Monday, April 5. Once submitted, auditions will go through a careful judging process. Due to the volume of submissions, the South Bend Cubs will only contact those who have been selected.

The South Bend Cubs will begin the 2021 season at Four Winds Field on Tuesday, May 4. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Opening Night will feature a special presentation celebrating the 2019 Midwest League Championship and a post-game fireworks show.

About the South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs are the Class A-Advanced minor league affiliate of the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. Over the past 33 years, the team has won four Midwest League titles, most recently in 2019, and has captured eight division titles. In 2019, the South Bend Cubs hosted the Midwest League All-Star Game. In June 2017, Four Winds Field, home of the South Bend Cubs, was voted Best Class A ballpark in the country by Ballpark Digest. In 2015 the team was named Ballpark Digest’s Team of the Year and received the John H. Johnson President’s Award, the highest award in minor league baseball.
