ROCKY MOUNTAIN VIBES AND UCHealth ANNOUNCE HEALTH-FOCUSED PARTNERSHIP

May 8, 2019

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Rocky Mountain Vibes and UCHealth are teaming up to improve health in the Pikes Peak region through a partnership that includes community wellness activities and health education, both in the stands and outside the newly named UCHealth Park.

In addition to the new stadium name, the partnership will include enhanced game-day experiences for fans along with community initiatives to encourage health and wellness. UCHealth patients also will enjoy benefits of the partnership via visits from Vibes VIPs.

“We’re excited to partner with UCHealth to help create a wonderful ballpark experience for our fans and to collectively enhance our positive impact throughout the Pikes Peak region,” said Rocky Mountain Vibes President and General Manager Chris Phillips. “Partnering with Memorial Hospital, the only Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center in all of southern Colorado, gives us the unique ability to inform, educate and improve the overall health of Vibes fans and our broader community.”

Among the many events fans and the community can expect:

·UCHealth and the Vibes will support the statewide MANtenance campaign, aimed at spreading awareness of men’s health and encouraging preventive screenings.

·The Vibes will support UCHealth’s #Checkout initiative, encouraging Coloradans to be mindful of screen time by swapping digital connection for interpersonal connection with family and friends.

·UCHealth will have an active role in the Rocky Mountain Vibes’ annual Emergency Preparedness Day, partnering with other local community and government agencies to educate Vibes fans as to the importance of proactive safety in emergencies.

·Family-friendly events at UCHealth Park will encourage kids, youth and adults to be active.

·The Vibes will help encourage fans to “Rock Your Routine” and start or continue healthy habits.

“UCHealth’s mission is to improve lives, and this partnership with the Vibes enables us to advance the health of the communities we serve,” said Joel Yuhas, president and CEO of UCHealth Memorial Hospital. “We look forward to engaging with Vibes fans and others in the Pikes Peak region to promote a culture of health and wellness along with offering education to avoid illness and injuries.”

The health partnership is the most notable and high-profile in a line of changes the Colorado Springs ball club has undergone this offseason since the name change of the team itself.

On Nov. 19, the organization unveiled the new team name of the Rocky Mountain Vibes to coincide with a league change for Colorado Springs this offseason from the Triple-A Pacific Coast League to the Rookie-Advanced Pioneer League. The total rebrand for the ball club includes new colors, logos, mascot, and now, a new stadium partnership as well.

There will be a number of other upgrades and improvements throughout UCHealth Park for the 2019 season. These changes will include new vendors, custom furniture and seating along the concourse, new on-field promotions, and a great deal more.

Sky Sox Host Heroes Classic Batting Practice

June 7, 2017

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

On a beautiful afternoon at Security Service Field, batting practice was in full swing. The crack of the bat filled the air as baseballs from the Colorado Springs coaching staff flew through the high altitude.

It was the beginning of another home game for the Sky Sox, but the top Brewers prospects weren’t in the cages this time around.

Instead, members of the Colorado Springs service community stood in the batter’s box, as representatives of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Springs Fire Department and the Colorado Springs chapter of the Wounded Warriors Project gathered to help kick off the 2017 Heroes Classic.

“It’s always fun to meet people that protect and serve our country,” said Sky Sox Manager Rick Sweet. “Any time I get an opportunity to spend time with these people and for my players to spend quality time with these people is always a great for them and for us.”

The annual batting practice was part of the Heroes Classic schedule, which aims to raise money and support for the men and women of the Colorado Springs community that choose to protect and serve the freedom and rights both at home and abroad.

“It’s an honor to serve the citizens of Colorado Springs and be able to do the things that I do,” said CSFD’s Ryan Pighetti, a 10-year firefighter at Station 17. “Being recognized for something like this is just icing on the cake. I have service inside of me and that’s why I do what I do.”

Pighetti and many others from across the three organizations had the opportunity to step onto the field and interact with players who share common values of hard work, determination, camaraderie and sacrifice.

“We talked about the camaraderie between the fire department, between their teammates, and a lot of it is the same,” said Pighetti. “These guys have put just as much hard work and determination into their career as I’ve put into my career to get to where we’ve ended up to this point.”

“It’s incredible when our warriors and their family members can come out on the field with professional baseball players and take some swings in the batting cages,” said Greg Monck, Alumni Manager for the Colorado Springs chapter of the Wounded Warrior Project. “It’s an awesome time for them and it helps get them out of the house and hang out with their families.”

For the Sox, an event such as the Heroes Classic batting practice allows the team to show gratitude for those who allow them to play their favorite game.

“For the players, it gives them a chance to touch base with people that allow us to have fun playing the sport that we get to play,” said Sweet. “It’s because of our warriors and the police and fire departments that we have the freedom to play baseball.”

Sky Sox To Host Academy Little League Opening Day

January 26, 2017

Here is a link to the original story on the team's website.

The Sky Sox have announced that they will host the Academy Little League Opening Day Ceremony at Security Service Field to begin their 2017 baseball season.

“The Sky Sox are excited to host Academy Little League’s Opening Day Ceremony at Security Service Field in 2017,” said Sky Sox President & General Manager Tony Ensor. “Each Sky Sox player began their career in youth baseball and as a proud community partner we’re thrilled to support one of the gems of our city in Academy Little League while providing these children with the memory of a lifetime as they celebrate the start of their season on a professional baseball field.”

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains along the Rampart Range, Academy Little League serves the northern communities of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Originally formed in 1995 with approximately 200 players, they now average approximately 62 teams and over 500 players annually. The league name was adopted in recognition of their proximity to the United States Air Force Academy, which is included in their boundary. The league’s logo is red/white/blue and depicts the Academy’s most famous landmark, the Cadet Chapel.

“Academy Little League has always had a great relationship with the Sky Sox organization, enjoying our annual Sky Sox Day at the Park,” said Tamee Lashlee, President of Academy Little League. “After losing our home fields, we were thrilled when Sky Sox management reached out to us during our planning session last year, offering to host our Opening Day ceremonies. Opening Day is such a special day for our 500 kids and their families and holding it at the Sky Sox stadium really pumped up the excitement! We are so pleased that Sky Sox have once again offered to host our Opening Day ceremonies this spring. As the league works hard to fundraise and look to the future for new fields, community support from organizations such as the Sky Sox, allows kids to just be kids and focus on what they love, playing ball. We couldn’t be more grateful!”

The festivities will include the introduction of each individual team in a pre-game on-field ceremony, a special honor guard presentation, recognition of the league’s All-Star teams and the national anthem.

The 30th season of Sky Sox Baseball begins April 6, 2017. For information about the Sky Sox and the 2017 season at Security Service Field, please call (719) 597-1449 or email info@skysox.com. Get the latest Sky Sox news on Facebook or follow the team on Twitter at @skysox.
