Hops For Hospice Beer Festival Oct. 1

The Clearwater Threshers will be hosting the 8th Annual Hops For Hospice Beer Festival at Bright House Field on Saturday, October 1, from 4-8 p.m. The fundraiser event benefits Empath Health and the Suncoast Hospice Foundation. Over 100 different beers will be available for sample on the concourse from JJ Taylor, Great Bay Distributors and local breweries.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets are limited and often sell out. Every attendee will receive a complimentary miniature beer mug for samples.

You must be 21+ years old with a valid photo ID to attend the festival. Parking at Bright House Field and Joe DiMaggio Field is $5 the day of the event.

Fifth Third Field to Host MVDSA Buddy Walk

Dayton, Ohio-The 14th Annual Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association (MVDSA) Dayton Buddy Walk® will take place at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, September 17th beginning at 8:30 a.m. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is one of over 250 Walks across the country this fall to raise awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.

The National Buddy Walk® Program welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. The goals of the program are to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice. Last year alone, Buddy Walk® events raised nearly $13 million to benefit national advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs and services. All funds raised through the National Buddy Walk® Program support both local and national programs.

The MVDSA Dayton Buddy Walk® will feature something fun for everyone – exhibitors, activities, inflatables, a basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and more! Activities around the ballpark begin at 8:30 a.m. The Entertainment Fun Zone will be open with face painters and a photo booth. Dragons mascots Heater and Gem will roam the concourse and take pictures with those in attendance. Individuals with Down syndrome will receive a medal as they complete the walk. Prostate Cancer Awareness Night on Sep. 2

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Friday, September 2, is Prostate Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark with a post-game concert from Tampa Bay’s Stormbringer. Threshers players and coaches will be wearing special blue jerseys that will be included in the silent auction to raise funds and awareness for the Morton Plant Mease Foundation and Ed Randall’s Fans For The Cure.

The Stormbringer concert is part of the Threshers Summer Concert series by Leinenkugel and New Belgium.

Fans who win a jersey in the auction can go on-field after the game to meet the player and receive the autographed jersey. Also included in the silent auction will be Threshers’ and Phillies’ memorabilia plus donations from team partners.

The night is also the last Threshers Free Shirt Friday with 1,000 themed, blue T-shirts given away by Academy Bus. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:15 p.m. game with the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Tampa Yankees to “Play4theCure” on Fan Appreciation Night

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Yankees will host their annual Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, August 27th. The Yankees are scheduled to play the Brevard County Manatees at 6:00 p.m. Fans are welcome to enjoy a night full of prizes and fun as the 2016 season comes to an end. The night will conclude with a postgame fireworks show, presented by Sonny’s BBQ.

Play4TheCure and Minor League Baseball are teaming up for the second year in a row to raise funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle, along with other fan games, will benefit cancer research. Players and fans will receive “I Play 4 ___” signs and are encouraged to fill them out to be recognized on the video board during the game.

“Play4TheCure inspires young athletes and their teams to leverage their passion for sports to “Play4″ loved ones affected by cancer and encourages them to actively participate in working to fund cancer research to make a difference.” – NFCR.org

In addition, August 27th will also be the final “Salute to Service Members Saturday” of the season. All military receive a FREE upper reserved ticket with valid I.D. Biscuits to Host Charities Night on August 26

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Montgomery Biscuits will celebrate Charities Night on Friday, August 26 when they take on the Birmingham Barons at 7:05 p.m. Charities Night will recognize and honor the Biscuits Charity Partners of the 2016 season, including River Region United Way, Family Sunshine Center, Easter Seals Central Alabama, Magic Moments and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. The evening will conclude with a MAX Fireworks Show!

“Charities Night is an important night that allows us to profile the organizations, chosen by the staff each year to support and move forward the Biscuits Charities mission to support youth. They auction is an effective fundraiser, but the celebration of awareness of all charities and their causes is a very honored privilege for us as well,” Biscuits Owner, Sherrie Myers, said.

Charities Night will also include a Jersey Auction in which the Biscuits will auction off their game-worn, home jerseys with proceeds benefitting the River Region United Way.

The auction will begin online, Monday, August 22, at noon and run through noon on Friday, August 26. Fans can bid on the game-worn jerseys by visiting http://biscuitsbaseball2016.eflea.ca/. The auction will pick back up in-park as a silent auction beginning when gates open at 5:50 p.m. and run through the end of the fourth inning. The starting bid for the jerseys online is $120; the starting bids for the in-park auction will start where the online auction concluded.

“The River Region United Way is honored to be included as one of the Montgomery Biscuits’ charity partners,” River Region United Way President and CEO, Jimmy Hill, said. “We are grateful for the Biscuits’ continued support and their commitment to benefit youth in the greater Montgomery community. Charities Night with the Jersey Auction is one of the highlights of our year.”

This year’s auction will feature player jerseys worn by nine of the Tampa Bay Rays Top-30 prospects, including the top three players, shortstop Willy Adames, pitcher Brent Honeywell and first baseman Jake Bauers. Adames, the Rays number one prospect, leads the Southern League in runs. At only 20 years old, the Dominican Republic native earned a starting spot on the Southern League All-Star roster and represented the World team at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at the MLB All-Star Game. Honeywell, who was promoted to the Biscuits in July and is ranked as the Rays number two prospect, was drafted in the second round of the 2014 Draft. In 2015, Honeywell was named as Best Pitching Prospect by Baseball America. Bauers, the Rays number three prospect, is a versatile player, spending time in both right field and first base this season with the Biscuits. Bauers, a mid-season All-Star, leads the team in hitting.

Jersey auction winners will be announced following the game in a special on-field ceremony that includes a photo opportunity with the player whose jersey was won.

Payment for auction items is due at the Biscuits Box Office the night of the auction. All bids, online and at the game, must be held with a credit card but can be paid by credit card or cash following the auction. Jerseys will be available for pick-up at the Biscuits Administrative Office approximately one week after the last game of the regular or playoff season.

Lake Monsters and Five Guys Team Back Up In 2016 For May Days Fundraising Program

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce the continued partnership with Five Guys Burgers and Fries during the annual May Days fundraiser to benefit non-profits from across the state of Vermont.   “Five Guys May Days” fundraiser will launch May 1st as a month-long program devoted to helping raise funds and awareness for state wide non-profits.

Support of local non-profits has demonstrated the strong commitment both the Lake Monsters and Five Guys have to the greater Burlington community. The goal of this program is not only to provide the opportunity for organizations to raise money, but also raise awareness for their programs while providing a chance for supporters to come together at the ballpark.

The Howard Center is just one of the many local non-profits who has benefitted from participating in Five Guys May Days and will continue the tradition this year. “Throughout the year, we benefit from the generous support of the Lake Monsters.” said Catherine Shahan, Director of Community Friends Mentoring at the Howard Center. “We appreciate our community partnership as it provides opportunities for many of our clients to enjoy an afternoon or evening of baseball, hot dogs, and fun!” Thank you, Lake Monsters for giving back and ensuring the whole community has access to your programs.”

Participating non-profits will have the entire month of May to promote and sell $6 Lake Monsters tickets through a specific URL link designated to their organization for a specific game during the season. After the month of May is completed, the Lake Monsters will donate half of the proceeds back to the organization. Following the selling period, Five Guys will donate up to $500 to match the amount raised by the highest selling non-profit in the program. Organizations will then be recognized on field with a check presentation at a Lake Monsters game this season.

Cutters Raise over $5,000 for James V. Brown Library

The Williamsport Crosscutters kicked of their tenth season with the Philadelphia Phillies with their annual Hot Stove Banquet on January 18 at the Genetti Hotel in downtown Williamsport.

The event featured Phillies manager Pete Mackanin and catcher Cameron Rupp in addition to Cutters manager and former World Series MVP Pat Borders and Japanese baseball legend Tom O’Malley. The guests entertained attendees with stories, answered audience questions and signed autographs.

In talking about the 2016 Phillies, Mackanin stated, “We experimented last year. This year is the other half of the experiment. I think we’re starting to build some depth to where we’re going to be pretty good.”

The night, presented in part by Woodlands Bank, WRAK Radio and the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, was also highlighted by auctions that featured a wealth of sports memorabilia including a special Phillies VIP Game Experience, an autographed giant Phanatic bobblehead and a full uniform worn by Tom O’Malley as a hitting coach for the Hanshin Tigers in 2014.

Another highlight of the event was the induction of the 2001 Williamsport Crosscutters team into the Bowman Field Hall of Fame. The team, managed by Tony Beasley, had a record of 48-26. After losing game one of the NYPL Championship Series to the Brooklyn Cyclones, the remainder of the series was canceled due to the tragic events of September 11th. Brooklyn and Williamsport were declared co-champions, marking the first championship for a Williamsport professional team since 1960. A total of eight players from that squad went on to play in the major leagues including former Pirates outfielder Chris Duffy who returned to Williamsport for the event.

A portion of the proceeds from the evening were donated to the James V. Brown Library whose mission is, “To enable people to be the best they can be, to grow, to learn and to enjoy their lives while learning”. At the conclusion of the festivities, the library was presented with a check for $5,025.

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team To Play At Centennial Field August 1st

BURLINGTON, VT – Historic Centennial Field will once again play host to a truly magical event as the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will play an exhibition against Vermont-based celebrities August 1st, 2015. Made up of Veterans and Active-Duty Soldiers and Marines who have lost a limb(s) in post 9/11 combat, the WWAST tours the country in hopes of raising awareness of the sacrifices of braves soldiers and to show that through extensive training and rehabilitation, that these Soldiers, and others like them, that life without a limb is limitless.

The August 1st event will include an exhibition game with former Major League Pitchers Bill “Spaceman” Lee and Len Whitehouse. Actor, producer, and writer Rusty “The Logger” Dewees, country music star Jamie Lee Thurston, and Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger are also among those scheduled to appear. This has been made possible through support from the Four Aces Family Foundation.

Game time is 6:05 PM with gates opening at Centennial Field at 5:00 PM. Storm Chasers Participating in Omaha Gives! on May 20

Charitable challenge benefits the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – Last season the Omaha Storm Chasers and the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha, the charitable arm of the organization, participated in Omaha Gives! for the first time. On May 20, the Storm Front Team Store will be the home for the charitable challenge from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Omaha Gives! is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Omaha Community Foundation to grow philanthropy in Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie counties, with the goal to inspire the community to come together for 24 hours to contribute as many charitable dollars as possible to support the work of local non-profit organizations participating. Those interested in donating to the Home Run Foundation can do so online at www.omahagives24.org from midnight to midnight on May 20 with a minimum donation of $10.

As a part of the Omaha non-profit community, the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha seeks to raise funds for their charitable contributions that benefit sports and recreational activities with a focus on youth. Mudcats Present Strikeout Cancer Weekend

Online jersey auction to be held in support of local charities

ZEBULON, NC – The Carolina Mudcats, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and member of the historic Carolina League, proudly present “Strikeout Cancer Weekend” at Five County Stadium. This special three day long event will take place May 15, 16 and 17 when the Mudcats play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

“Strikeout Cancer Weekend” is designed to raise awareness and help in the fight against cancer. It is also designed to help raise funds for local cancer fighting charities.

Mudcats players will wear specially designed jerseys for all three games in the series. Those game worn jerseys will then be made available to fans through a special online auction that will be launched on www.carolinamudcats.com.

All of the proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to local cancer fighting charities including the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the Vs. Cancer Foundation and Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund will be the official charity for Friday’s May 15 game in Zebulon at 7:00 p.m. Fans wishing to attend the game and support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund can purchase specially priced tickets through the Mudcats front office. The special weekend concludes on Sunday, May 17 with first pitch at 2:00 p.m. Sunday’s game will benefit Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure. The Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure foundation seeks to save lives by increasing awareness of prostate cancer and the life-saving value of early detection while providing education and information about cutting-edge research to reduce risk, detect, and treat prostate cancer.

Bisons ‘Armed Forces Night’ game on May 16 to benefit Buffalo Naval & Military Park

The Buffalo Bisons have teamed up again with the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park for the 2nd annual Armed Forces Tribute Night at Coca-Cola Field on Saturday, May 16 when the Bisons host the Toledo Mud Hens. The first pitch is at 5:05 p.m. with an elaborate pre-game ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Naval & Military Park are selling reserved seat tickets to the game for $10 with $5 of the advance-only sales being donated to the Park from the Bisons for the maintenance and preservation of the USS The Sullivans. Advance sale tickets may purchased on-line at www.buffalonavalpark.org or by calling (716) 847-1773 (ext. 18 or 10).

The USS The Sullivans, a Fletcher-class destroyer, was named after the Sullivan family lost five brothers (George, Francis, Joseph, Madison and Albert) ages 20-27 onboard the USS Juneau which was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1942 during World War II. The USS The Sullivans, the USS Little Rock, the nation’s only guided missile cruiser the submarine USS Croaker, are all docked and on display at the Naval & Military Park at Canalside.

“This is a major fund raiser for the Park and we look forward to everyone coming out to show their support for the men and women of this area who are now serving or have served in our Armed Forces. Please join us in honoring our troops,” said Deborah Billoni, chairperson of the Tribute Day committee.

LOOKING FOR A VETERANS TO HOLD THE FLAG
Among the pre-game festivities is the display of a large American flag in the outfield. Veterans at the game are invited to enter the field to hold the largest American flag to ever be on display at Coca-Cola Field. Veterans (uniforms are not necessary) are to report to the Naval & Military Park’s Command Post inside the ballpark’s Washington Street gate by 4:15 p.m. and ask for Col. Bob Pecoraro.

The 30×60-foot flag that weighs 75 pounds and flies on Buffalo’s waterfront adjacent to the Naval & Military Park, will be held by more than 100 military veterans, Sea Cadets and Civil Air Patrol members.

“We need the veterans to hold the flag in center field during the ceremony to showcase the local members of the Armed Forces so the public can say, ‘Thank You,'” said Billoni. The flag will be held during the display of colors and the singing of the Canadian and American national anthems.

Other pre-game activities include the giving away of commemorative military challenge coin to the first 2,000 fans through the Swan St. Gate (open at 4 p.m.). and the 2nd annual Francis E. Mooney Comrades Appreciation Award presentations. This year’s recipients are:

The late Helen G. Jacob, a pioneer in getting women involved with the Armed Services. She joined the U.S. Army (Women’s Auxiliary Corps) and was deployed to France as an Administrative Assistant during World War II. She had a 27-year career working at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo and after retiring in 1995, she returned as a volunteer. She died on March 2nd.

The late Merrell A. Lane, who served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, was the longtime leader of a group that helped to save the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station from closing.

First Sergeant Nelson Oldfield, who served our country for 24 years in the U.S. Army, and who continues his dedication to veterans and the community through numerous volunteer activities.

Honorable Robert T. Russell, Jr., an Associate Judge for Buffalo City Court and an Acting Erie County Court Judge who created and presided over the nation’s first “Veterans’ Treatment Court.”

Captain Roger L. Woodworth, a commissioned officer with over eight years of active military service in the U.S. Army, he was appointed the first President and Chief Executive Officer and founding charter member of Veterans One-stop Center of Western New York, Inc.

Charlie Yeager was an influential local businessman who was a key member of the original organizing committee to bring the ships here in 1977. He handled the park’s insurance for over 30 years and continues to be a strong supporter of the park.

RELAY FOR LIFE JERSEY FUNDRAISER

On Sunday, July 19th the Brooklyn Cyclones will wear special jerseys as they celebrate Relay for Life Day at MCU Park.  The jerseys will feature a purple ribbon with the names of those affected by cancer written on each jersey.  If you have a loved one you would like to feature on the jersey, you can make a $75 donation to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  There is space for 75 names, so act quickly.

The jerseys will be raffled off during the game with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Socity.  You can also pre-order Jersey Replicas for $75.

Cutters Dominican Dinner to Benefit A.C.E.S.

The Williamsport Crosscutters have teamed up with A.C.E.S. North America in announcing the 3rd Annual Dominican Plate – An Evening of Dominican Dining and Entertainment with the Cutters.

The event will be held on Tuesday, July 14 in the Grand Ballroom of the Genetti Hotel, 200 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Doors open at 5:30pm with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar followed by a Dominican-style dinner served at 6:30pm.

The buffet dinner of traditional Dominican fare will be served by members of the Williamsport Crosscutters who hail from the Dominican Republic, along with some of their teammates.

Proceeds from the event will benefit A.C.E.S. North America, an organization working to create sustainable development projects in the Dominican Republic. The charity, founded in Williamsport in 2005, uses all-volunteer personnel for its operations.

A.C.E.S. Founder Linell Stabler stated, “Teaming up with the Crosscutters for this Dominican fundraiser is a fun match for our mission of helping people in the Dominican Republic.”

In addition, the night will feature live musical entertainment, Chinese and live auctions of sports memorabilia and other items plus a balloon bust wine raffle.   Last year’s event raised over $4,000 for the charity.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to help out a worthy charity that does outstanding work in an area of the world many of our players call home,” said Gabe Sinicropi the team’s Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations.

Due to the popularity of this event in the past, reserved seating will now be utilized to make for a more comfortable evening for all attendees. Tickets for The Dominican Plate are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under. Tickets must be purchased in advance online at crosscutters.com, by phone at (570) 326-3389 or by visiting the Sawmill Team Store at Susquehanna Bank Park.

5th Annual Cutters 5K to Benefit CDC

The Williamsport Crosscutters, in partnership with the Children’s Development Center, will be holding the 5th Annual Cutters 5K on Saturday, June 27th at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field.

The race, through Williamsport’s West End, begins at 9am with registration open at 8am. The course has runners starting outside the ballpark entrance with the final sprint inside the stadium finishing at home plate. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to take part in the event.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Children’s Development Center of Williamsport. Since 1923, the CDC has been providing services to children with special needs from birth to 21 years of age. Last year’s event attracted over 200 participants. Since its inception, almost $50,000 has been raised for the CDC through this event.

“Since the affiliation between Hope Enterprises and the Children’s Development Center was finalized, both organizations have been working together to enhance the service options for children and their families in our area. Having the support of our community with events such as the Cutters 5K, allows us to be better prepared to meet the needs of those to be served” stated Hope Enterprises President, Jim Campbell.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in seven male and female age categories. In addition to the prize awards, the top male and female runners will throw out ceremonial first pitches at the Williamsport Crosscutters game that evening. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three male and female walkers.

“We are proud to partner with the CDC again on this event. It just keeps growing every year”, said Cutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. All participants receive a race t-shirt (while supplies last), and a ticket to the June 27th Crosscutters vs. Batavia MuckDogs game at 7:05pm. Registration forms and more information are available online at crosscutters.com, at the Crosscutters offices at Susquehanna Bank Park or the CDC offices located at 625 W. Edwin St.   Sponsorships of the event are also still available.

Opening Night 2015, presented by Susquehanna Bank and KISS 102-7, is slated for Saturday, June 20 as the Crosscutters host the rival State College Spikes. Season Tickets and Bonus Book mini-plans are now available at the ballpark, online at www.crosscutters.com or by phone at (570) 326-3389
