BlueClaws Charities Completes Grant Program With Grants to 35 Local Partner Organizations

LAKEWOOD, NJ – BlueClaws Charities, the official 501c3 organization of the Lakewood BlueClaws, handed out grants to 35 partner organizations as part of their 8th annual grant distribution.

BlueClaws Charities Community Partner organizations, all 501c3s that work with the BlueClaws throughout the year, were eligible to apply for a grant and all organizations that applied for a grant received one.

Each applicant was asked to detail a specific use for the grant, with the requirement that all money received from BlueClaws Charities stays in Ocean & Monmouth Counties. A complete list can be found below.

“BlueClaws Charities is excited to support such a wide variety of outstanding, local, non-profit organizations,” said Jim DeAngelis, BlueClaws Charities Executive Director. “These organizations are on the ground working with the underserved in our communities, doing spectacular work. It is an honor for BlueClaws Charities to be able to assist.”

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

“Our fans and donors have been tremendously supportive of BlueClaws Charities over the years, and this year was no exception,” said DeAngelis. “We look forward to another successful season in 2017!”

Below, find a list of organizations and programs supported through the annual BlueClaws Charities grant program:

  • ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia – For patient care services to help the 50 ALS patient families living in Monmouth & Ocean Counties.
  • American Heart Association – For their Heart Walk, a community event that encourages physical activity to help lower risk factors that can lead to heart disease.
  • Arc of Ocean County – For their mission of helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities be accepted and valued as citizens of the community.
  • Ashley Lauren Foundation – For assisting children with cancer and their families through direct financial assistance.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County – For providing group mentoring activities to children on their waiting list of 180 children, enabling them to be involved with the agency.
  • Boot Campaign – For raising awareness and assistance for military families and personnel especially relating to the unique challenges they face during and post-service.
  • Caregiver Volunteers – For defraying the cost of criminal background checks completed on volunteers prior to assignments.
  • Cheer Dream Scoliosis Foundation – For assisting children with medical needs in their facility.
  • Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation – For improving the quality of life for children and adults affected by the diseases.
  • Daniela’s Wish – For granting wishes to sick children in the community.
  • Dottie’s House – For providing safe housing for women and their children through a program that empowers them to become self-sufficient and free from violence.
  • Easter Seals New Jersey – For installing a new ram and deck to an existing residential home for Easter Seals program participants.
  • Exit 82 Theatre Company – For funding their 2017 production season with selected shows.
  • Tom Giannattasio Jr. Memorial Fund – For providing scholarships for Brick Township High Schools.
  • Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore – For supporting their summer outreach initiative Girls Are Great, which sends underserved girls to camp.
  • Go4TheGoal – For helping kids with cancer in the program achieve their goals.
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network – For supporting their mission of providing emergency shelter and other urgently needed services to a growing number of homeless families in Ocean County.
  • Kids Need More – For enhancing the lives of children, families, and young adults coping with cancer and life-threatening illness.
  • LADACIN Network – For enhancing the program offerings at their Adult Day Habilitation program with a new horticulture gardening and farming experience.
  • Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund – For aiding their mission of aiding and assisting our wounded warriors and their families.
  • Mary’s Place By the Sea – For supporting the oncology massage program for women with cancer.
  • NJ Tears Foundation – For promoting pregnancy and infant loss awareness and support in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
  • Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity – For assisting in building a home for a single mother and two children in Ocean County.
  • Ocean County Family Support Organization – For assisting in their spring camping trip for youth partnership.
  • Ocean Partnership for Children – For assisting needy youth families during the holiday season.
  • Ocean County Shrine Club – For the Shriners Hospital’s Surgical Navigation System for Children’s Spine Injuries.
  • Ocean County YMCA – For helping kids, families, and seniors in the community find the assets they need in YMCA programs and memberships regardless of incomes and backgrounds.
  • Ocean’s Harbor House – For supplementing the salary of a Life Skills counselor working with homeless youths in their Transitional Living Program.
  • Opportunity Knocks – For assisting in long-term community placement of the disabled.
  • Parents of Autistic Children – For providing a challenger sports league designed to offer a socialization opportunity for disabled students and developing peers in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
  • Piece of the Puzzle – For technology to help students with autism learn and practice vocational skills.
  • Raising Hope for Others – For assisting the organization with financial costs for organizing and running their major fundraising events.
  • Salvation Army – For funding their feeding program for local underserved.
  • St. Vincent DePaul Society – For helping to fund temporary sheltering of local homeless.
  • United Way of Monmouth & Ocean Counties – For acquiring hats, coats, gloves, and scarves to help keep children warm this winter.

BlueClaws Charities, in addition to the grant program, supports hundreds of non-profit organizations with gift package donations, golf outing hole-in-one sponsorships, and specialty organizations such as OCEAN, Inc., a federal program that assists the less fortunate in the community. The “Tickets for Kids Program,” another BlueClaws Charities initiative, donates over 2,000 tickets to under-served youths in Lakewood and elsewhere in Ocean County.

Community Partners raise money through a BlueClaws fundraiser outing and have the opportunity to volunteer in the FirstEnergy Park concession stands to raise additional funds. These organizations also receive exposure through on-field presentations, table displays, and on BlueClaws.com, plus they have special opportunities to hold events, such as charity walks, at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in each year of existence and will reach the 7-million fan plateau in 2017.

Home Runs for Heroes Nets Local Charities $30,000 from OceanFirst Foundation

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws and OceanFirst Foundation celebrated another successful season of the Home Runs for Heroes program on Wednesday at FirstEnergy Park as OceanFirst Foundation presented the nine participating organizations with checks totaling $30,000 representing each of the 30 home runs hit at FirstEnergy Park this year.

The nine organizations (see below) were each paired with one inning and each BlueClaws home run in one particular inning meant a $1,000 donation to a charity.

Among BlueClaws players, Jose Pujols raised the most money. The 20-year old hit 12 home runs at FirstEnergy Park this year, more than any player in BlueClaws history. Jan Hernandez hit five home runs in Lakewood and Jiandido Tromp, who was promoted at the All-Star break, hit four home runs in Lakewood.

BlueClaws Charities Luxury Suite Raffle Returns With More Winners Than Ever Before

LAKEWOOD, NJ – BlueClaws Charities, the official 501c3 non-profit foundation of the Lakewood BlueClaws, is once again holding their annual BlueClaws Charities Luxury Suite Raffle, with this year’s raffle including a greater chance to win than ever before.

Only 300 raffle tickets will be sold, for $100 each, with proceeds going to BlueClaws Charities. This year, however, there will be seven winners instead of four. Each winner will win a 10-game BlueClaws Luxury Suite package for the 2017 season.

ORDER RAFFLE TICKETS – There are two ways to order. Order online by clicking here, or order on the phone by calling Mike Kasel at 732-901-7000 ext 195.

The seven winners will receive 20 tickets to 10 pre-determined games throughout the season. The games will be split up by day of the week and month of the season. Opening Day is April 13th and the season concludes on September 4th, Labor Day.

Kami Zonin of Zonin Wealth Management was a raffle winner for the 2016 season. “From the very first game in the Luxury Suite, we knew we were in for something special. The staff at the stadium did an amazing job to help cater every game to the person using the Suite. Our staff was able to use it for family birthdays and special occasions. We were also able to give some of our clients the opportunity to use the Suite for their own special occasions. Our clients loved it!”

She added: ” The BlueClaws worked with us to make every game a once in a lifetime experience, and for that we will be forever grateful!”

The last day to reserve a raffle ticket will be March 17, 2017 (but tickets are expected to sell out before that date). All seven winners will be determined via a drawing on March 20th at 10 am. at FirstEnergy Park. Winners do not have to be present to win.

Those that purchase multiple tickets can win multiple shares of a suite. Each share holds a $4,945 value.

Each Luxury Suite provides panoramic views of the stadium from a climate-controlled indoor area, which is completely furnished with cable and has 12 seats on the balcony. Luxury Suite ticket holders also have access to the Upstairs Club as well as wait service within the suite.

The proceeds from the raffle go to benefit BlueClaws Charities, a 501c3 organization and the official non-profit organization of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

BlueClaws, CJBC Blood Drive on May 9th

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center will partner on a Blood Drive on Saturday, May 9th that runs from 7 am – 2 pm.

The drive will take place in the BlueClaws Executive Conference Center, and each donor will receive a pair of tickets to a future BlueClaws game.

The BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center encourage all fans to donate, as this is the time of the year when donations are in the greatest need.

Don’t Forget: Please eat before donating. All equipment used during the procedure is sterile and disposable. Donors must be healthy, be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 120 pounds. Donors must present signature ID.

May 9th is also Bark in the Park, where fans can bring their dogs to the 4:05 pm game. There is a pre-game festival that starts at 1:30 pm and includes vendors, games, a pet adoption showcase, and more. Bark in the Park is presented by 100.1 WJRZ and 95.9 WRAT.

ALS Celebrity Waiter Event on May 27th

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws are pleased to hold their 15th annual ALS Celebrity Waiter Event on Wednesday, May 27th from 6 pm – 8 pm. The event will be held for the first time at Tuscan House in Toms River, and once again all proceeds from the event will benefit the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, the principal charity of the Phillies.

The ALS Celebrity Waiter Event features all BlueClaws players serving as the waiters and BlueClaws coaches serving as the bartenders. The players will pose for pictures and sign autographs throughout the night while helping to raise money for a great cause.

20% of all bills and 100% of all tips will be donated directly to the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia. This event has raised over $125,000 for the ALS Association in its first 14 years of existence.

“This has been our top community outreach event since its inception in 2001,” said Jim DeAngelis, BlueClaws Director of Community Relations. “We are thrilled to partner with Tuscan House this year and are very much looking forward to another spectacular ALS Celebrity Waiter Event.”

There will also be a 50/50 and a silent auction, with merchandise from both the BlueClaws and Phillies available, again with all proceeds going directly to the ALS Assocaition of Greater Philadelphia.

Scout Program Includes June 7th Jersey Auction

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Calling all Scouts! The BlueClaws will again hold an extensive Scout program in 2015 and kick it off in style, wearing special Boy Scout Jerseys at their first Scout Day game on Sunday, June 7th.

The special scout jerseys are presented by the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts. They will be auctioned off at the 1:05 pm game and the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts.

The BlueClaws Scout Program includes four days – June 7th (1:05), July 25th (7:05), August 8th (7:05), August 17th (7:05). July 25th and August 8th are both Scout Night Sleeporvers presented by Camping World, where scouts can camp out on the field after the game. June 7th and August 17th are Kids Eat Free days where scouts 12 and under will receive a free hot dog, bag of chips, and a soda.

Each participating boy or girl scout will receive a Scout Patch. This year’s patch was designed by Grace Beeler of Girl Scout Troop 114 in Hazlet. She was the winner of the annual BlueClaws Scout Patch Design contest.

Scout patches from each of the BlueClaws 15 seasons of Scout Nights are available in the Claws Cove.

All scout groups receive value-priced tickets and a pre-game parade, as well as additional fun.

College Fair Night Returns on May 6th

High school students get free ticket, early entrance to meet with over 40 colleges

LAKEWOOD, NJ – A BlueClaws game can be more than just a fun night out! The BlueClaws annual College Fair Night is back on Wednesday, May 6th when the BlueClaws take on the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants).

High school students get into the game for free. To register and to reserve additional tickets for family members, call Kyle Volp at 732-901-7000 ext 142.

Plus, the first 1,500 fans will receive a BlueClaws Drawstring Backpack, perfect for high school students to take to college with them in the next few years!

While the gates open at 5:30 pm for the general public, high school students receive early entrance at 5:00 to begin meeting with representatives from all of the colleges at the event.

Fans are also encouraged to wear the shirt and/or hat of their alma mater, and fight songs will be played throughout the night.

Celebrate National Siblings Day at April 10th Game

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoJoin the BlueClaws and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County for National Siblings Day at the Friday, April 10th BlueClaws game which starts at 7:05.

Tickets for the game are just $1 thanks to the Asbury Park Press and there will be post-game fireworks thanks to River Rock Restaurant & Marina Bar.

Big-Brothers-Big-Sisters2Fans are encouraged to send in a funny picture(s) with their siblings prior to the game. The best ones will be used during the game on the video board (bonus points for pictures taken at FirstEnergy Park or in BlueClaws gear). Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County will have a table on the concourse, and fans can take pictures with their siblings at the table and share on Twitter & Instagram using the hashtag #BCSibsDay. Winners will be selected and prizes, including tickets to a future game, will be awarded.

There will also be sibling movie clips shown throughout the game as well plus on-field promotions pitting siblings against each other.

Honor Your Hero On Opening Day

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoIn celebration of the start of the BlueClaws 15th season, the team will be honoring 15 BlueClaws Community Heroes on Opening Day!

Fans are encouraged to nominate their heroes – first responders, teachers, coaches, parents, or anyone else – by emailing heroes@blueclaws.com.

Please include your hero’s name, connection to the nominating individual, a description as to why they are being nominated (such as why your hero is important to you or what he/she does for your family or the community) and contact information.

15 winners will be selected and honored on the field in a pregame ceremony on Opening Day. Plus, all 15 heroes will take the field with BlueClaws players during the traditional player introductions. Each will also receive two complimentary tickets to the game.

Winners will be notified via phone call. All submissions must be made by April 1st.

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoBlueClaws Charities is proud to announce its fifth annual Bowling With The BlueClaws fundraising event returns to Sea Girt Lanes on Wednesday, April 15th. BlueClaws players will again be at the event, a great chance for kids to have a fun night out with players and Buster while raising money for a worthy cause.

The charitable bowling event takes place from 6-8pm. For just $12, participants will receive bowling shoes, a raffle ticket for a series of prizes, pizza and soda, and unlimited bowling games.

BlueClawsCharitiesRaffles will be held throughout the night for limited edition autographed merchandise and other door prizes. In addition to prizes being given out, BlueClaws players will be there to hang out with you! All proceeds from the night will benefit BlueClaws Charities and their Community Partners.

BlueClaws Host Scout Patch Design Contest

Winning patch will be given out to all scouts at BlueClaws games this year!

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoThe BlueClaws are holding their annual Scout Patch Design Contest to determine the official patch that will be given out to scouts at Scout Nights this summer.

Click here to download the official contest rules and a design template.

Use 10 colors or less to fill in the circle with your patch design. Please note on each sheet the scout’s name and their parent’s contact information. As a reminder, 2015 is the BlueClaws 15th season in Lakewood, so keep that in mind when designing your patch!

The winner will be decided on April 1st, and will be rewarded a ceremonial first pitch before whichever 2015 Scout Night they attend.

This year, three of the four organizations received grants in the full amount that was requested on their application. With its third year now complete, the Thunder Charities Community Grant Program has awarded $31,650 to charities in our region. The Thunder has donated over $5.4 million in goods, services and monetary donations to community organizations in its 21 year history.

“It’s great to seEvery-Child-Valuede fun events like the ‘Thunder Charities Treasure Hunt’ raise the funds that allow us to to support so many worthwhile organizations,” said TJ Jahn, Thunder Director of Community Relations.

Thunder Charities grants are awarded annually with the goal to support organizations thaNational-Alliance-on-Mental-Illnesst enhance the educational opportunities and quality of life for children as well as programs that support the betterment of the local community in general. Applications are now available for 2015. Holiday Purchases Will Benefit The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey

Trenton-ThunderThe tenth annual Trenton Thunder Gift of Baseball program begins today, giving fans the chance to share the experience of cheering on the hometown team with underprivileged families in our community. For each Season Ticket, Pic-A-Plan and Mini Plan purchased between November 24 and December 19, the Thunder will provide tickets for families in the Holiday Gift Outreach program run by Children’s Home Society to attend a 2015 Thunder game.

“Our fans and corporate partners deserve a big “thank you” for supporting this initiative every year,” said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. “We’re hoping even more families can visit ARM & HAMMER Park next season thanks to our fans’ holiday shopping.”

Childrens-Home-Society-NJIn its first nine years, the Gift of Baseball program has allowed the Thunder to donate a total of 6,344 tickets to the Children’s Home Society.

“We are so grateful to the Trenton Thunder for once again sharing this wonderful ‘Gift of Baseball’ with the children we serve,” said Donna C. Pressma, CHSofNJ President and CEO. She continued, “This gift allows hundreds of our children to experience a live baseball game. It is a chance to make memories that last a lifetime, and we cannot thank the Trenton Thunder enough for always thinking of our CHSofNJ children and families.”

2015 Trenton Thunder Mini Plans go on sale December 1st. Mini plans include five or six of the most popular games on the schedule, free food at each game, a Trenton Thunder hat, a complimentary ticket to Opening Night and start as low as $60. The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey provides at-risk children and their families with a range of services that empower them to achieve their potential. They are child-oriented, family focused, community based, and outcome-oriented.

Trenton-ThunderThe Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, scored 298 runs on their way to 31 victories at ARM & HAMMER Park this season, but the real winner this season was the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) thanks to NJM Insurance Group and their Safe at Home program.

As part of the Safe at Home program, NJM made a $14,900 donation, based on $50 per run scored at ARM & HAMMER Park, to TASK. With this season’s donation, NJM’s Safe at Home program has donated more than $45,000 to local non-profits over the last three years.

Trenton-Area-Soup-Kitchen“Thanks to the hard work of the Thunder offense this season and NJM Insurance, the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen can continue their mission of feeding those that are hungry and offer programs that encourage self sufficiency and improve the quality of life of their patrons,” said Thunder Director of Community Relations T.J. Jahn. “This program is precisely the type of program that the Trenton Thunder strive to promote; one that includes a great corporate partner, NJM, and enriches our community and its residents.”

“In their 21 seasons in Trenton, the Thunder have truly become an institution,” said NJM Corporate Communications Administrator Eric Stenson. “We share the Thunder’s commitment for our capital city. The Safe at Home program provides NJM a wonderful opportunity to benefit an institution like TASK, which makes such a big difference in the lives of so many people in our community.”

The 2015 season, the 22nd in franchise history, will begin on April 9 at Erie with the home opener scheduled for April 16 against the Portland Sea Dogs. BlueClaws Enhance Fundraising Program

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoThe Lakewood BlueClaws have upgraded their fundraising program, adding a new option that will enable additional local organizations to raise money through fun nights at FirstEnergy Park.

Last year, over 150 organizations partnered with the BlueClaws to raise over $120,000 and with this new program, detailed below, that number should grow significantly.

Groups that have particiapted in the BlueClaws Fundraising Program in years past include youth sports teams and leagues, churches, Rotarys, Elks clubs, Kiwanis groups, scout troops, schools, non-profit organizations, and many others.

Fundraiser FlexBooks: For the first time this year, the BlueClaws will offer fundraising tickets in a smaller FlexBook, each with five undated vouchers valid at any 2015 BlueClaws home game. Each organization can order a minimum of 25 booklets for $35 each and re-sell them for $55 each, earning $20 per booklet and a minimum of $500.

“Several groups have asked us for a more adaptable fundraising option and we think our new FlexBooks fit the bill,” said Jim McNamara, BlueClaws Vice President of Ticket Sales & Service. “It’s a lot easier than selling candy or washing cars and it’s a quick and easy way to raise money for your organization.”

The BlueClaws original fundraising program remains intact, where organizations can reserve a minimum of 250 tickets for $7 each and re-sell them for $11, raising a minimum of $1,000. This standard fundraising program also enables partners to raise additional funds through two exclusive benefits:

  • Fundraising partners can volunteer in a BlueClaws concession stand, earning $750 for 20 volunteers. Concession stand nights are subject to availibility.
  • Fundraising partners receive 50-cents back to their organization for each ticket that gets used at their BlueClaws game.
  • These two benefits are only available to partners that utilize the BlueClaws standard fundraising program and is not open to those that partner through fundraiser FlexBooks.
