Fans to literally Paint the Park Pink on Aug. 2

The State College Spikes’ annual Paint the Park Pink event, presented by Mount Nittany Health, will take on a whole new dimension in 2015. Fans will be offered the opportunity to literally “Paint the Park Pink” to help the fight against breast cancer on Sunday, August 2 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

For the first time, fans that make a donation to the Breast Care Center at Mount Nittany Medical Center through The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center will have the chance to paint designated areas of the ballpark pink to honor those who have fought and those who continue to fight breast cancer. The event will take place during the Spikes’ 6:05 p.m. game against the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox).

In addition to painting the ballpark pink, fans can bid on the special Pink Camouflage Jerseys the Spikes will be wearing to benefit The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center. The Jersey-off-the-Back Auction will take place during the night, with all winners receiving their jerseys immediately after the game.

Plus, there will numerous other ways for fans to donate to the fight against breast cancer throughout the night, including special pink balloons, a 50/50 drawing, and more.

“Paint the Park Pink has always been one of our most popular and impactful promotions throughout the past nine seasons,” said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker. “We have been privileged to be able to partner with Mount Nittany Health to raise over $60,000 for the fight against breast cancer. This year, our fans can not only continue to help that fight, but leave an indelible mark on the ballpark that will last more than just one night.”

The fun of Paint the Park Pink Night also includes a Replica Pink Camouflage Jersey Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans of all ages, presented by Mount Nittany Health, and a fantastic post-game FIREWORKS show to close the evening.

Single-game tickets for all 38 regular season home dates between June 19 and September 6, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office and online at StateCollegeSpikes.com. Fans can visit the Box Office in person weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call (814) 272-1711. Fans purchasing online have the ability to print their tickets using a home computer and printer.

Cutters Dominican Dinner to Benefit A.C.E.S.

The Williamsport Crosscutters have teamed up with A.C.E.S. North America in announcing the 3rd Annual Dominican Plate – An Evening of Dominican Dining and Entertainment with the Cutters.

The event will be held on Tuesday, July 14 in the Grand Ballroom of the Genetti Hotel, 200 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Doors open at 5:30pm with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar followed by a Dominican-style dinner served at 6:30pm.

The buffet dinner of traditional Dominican fare will be served by members of the Williamsport Crosscutters who hail from the Dominican Republic, along with some of their teammates.

Proceeds from the event will benefit A.C.E.S. North America, an organization working to create sustainable development projects in the Dominican Republic. The charity, founded in Williamsport in 2005, uses all-volunteer personnel for its operations.

A.C.E.S. Founder Linell Stabler stated, “Teaming up with the Crosscutters for this Dominican fundraiser is a fun match for our mission of helping people in the Dominican Republic.”

In addition, the night will feature live musical entertainment, Chinese and live auctions of sports memorabilia and other items plus a balloon bust wine raffle.   Last year’s event raised over $4,000 for the charity.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to help out a worthy charity that does outstanding work in an area of the world many of our players call home,” said Gabe Sinicropi the team’s Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations.

Due to the popularity of this event in the past, reserved seating will now be utilized to make for a more comfortable evening for all attendees. Tickets for The Dominican Plate are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under. 5th Annual Cutters 5K to Benefit CDC

The Williamsport Crosscutters, in partnership with the Children’s Development Center, will be holding the 5th Annual Cutters 5K on Saturday, June 27th at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field.

The race, through Williamsport’s West End, begins at 9am with registration open at 8am. The course has runners starting outside the ballpark entrance with the final sprint inside the stadium finishing at home plate. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to take part in the event.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Children’s Development Center of Williamsport. Since 1923, the CDC has been providing services to children with special needs from birth to 21 years of age. Last year’s event attracted over 200 participants. Since its inception, almost $50,000 has been raised for the CDC through this event.

“Since the affiliation between Hope Enterprises and the Children’s Development Center was finalized, both organizations have been working together to enhance the service options for children and their families in our area. Having the support of our community with events such as the Cutters 5K, allows us to be better prepared to meet the needs of those to be served” stated Hope Enterprises President, Jim Campbell.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in seven male and female age categories. In addition to the prize awards, the top male and female runners will throw out ceremonial first pitches at the Williamsport Crosscutters game that evening. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three male and female walkers.

“We are proud to partner with the CDC again on this event. It just keeps growing every year”, said Cutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. All participants receive a race t-shirt (while supplies last), and a ticket to the June 27th Crosscutters vs. Batavia MuckDogs game at 7:05pm. iRUNpigs 5K Returns on Sunday, June 7

Sign-ups are now underway for the fourth annual iRUNpigs 5K along with a 1.5-mile walk and Piglet Dash for children 12 and under on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Coca-Cola Park with 100% of the race proceeds benefiting IronPigs Charities.

Similar to last year, the race course will take place within Coca-Cola Park and its surrounding parking lots to provide a safer running environment. The race will once again conclude on-field at Coca-Cola Park. Over 1,100 runners and walkers have taken part in the event since its 2012 debut.

The 5K will kick off the day’s events, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Piglet Run will follow at 9 a.m. while the 1.5-mile walk will begin at 9:15 a.m.

2015 participants receive a commemorative tech t-shirt, chip timing featuring results via text message as you finish, pre-race and post-race live entertainment and a free entry in an IronPigs team memorabilia raffle. There will also be prizes for overall male and female winners among age groups. New this year, all registrars will receive one General Admission ticket and food voucher to be used at the IronPigs game later that day against the Indianapolis Indians at 1:35 p.m. 

The cost is $45 for the 5K, $35 for the 1.5-mile Walk and $15 for the Piglet Dash (12 & under).  Early Bird Special is extended until May 8 at 11:59 p.m. and receive a $10 discount off registration for both the 5K and 1.5-mile walk.  Please note that day of event registration is $45 for the 5K, $35 for the 1.5-mile Walk and $15 for the Piglet Run.

Pre-registration ends on Wednesday, June 3 at 11:59 p.m. Any registration after June 3 will need to be done in person at Coca-Cola Park during packet pickup or on the day of the event. There will be no online registration after June 3. Race packet pick-up is available at Coca-Cola Park beginning on Friday, June 5 through Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Park Majestic Clubhouse Store. This is a Rain or Shine event.

100% of the proceeds benefit IronPigs Charities, a non-profit organization striving to provide educational and recreational opportunities for children in the Greater Lehigh Valley area.

Spikes announce 2015 school programs

Outreach programs provide lessons to over 15,000 Central PA students

The State College Spikes are pleased to announce the team’s roster of 2015 school programs. Each program has a unique theme and focus, with the common goal of using the Spikes brand to supplement classroom curriculum in the areas of reading, writing, exercising, eating healthy and conserving water. These programs are always offered free of charge to area schools.

Most programs are implemented through school assemblies and involve mascots, players and front office staff. All programs offer K-8 students the opportunity to earn free tickets to a Spikes’ home game upon completion of one of the fun and educational school programs. The Spikes annually reach over 15,000 Central Pennsylvania school children in Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata Counties through community outreach programs.

New for the 2015 season is the “Head Above Water” program presented by the State College Borough Water Authority. The program teaches water conservation and its positive effects, with a free Spikes ticket offered upon completion of the program.

Below are capsules of the Spikes 2015 school programs:

Healthy Home Runs presented by Mount Nittany Health
The Spikes and Mount Nittany Health are offering this school program, which is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle by creating awareness of the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity. Ike the Spike and representatives from Mount Nittany Health will visit schools to hold a kick-off assembly, which can be held outside or inside. During the assembly, K-6 students will be educated on the importance of exercise and nutrition before having the opportunity to take “Ike’s Fun Fit Challenge.” Students who complete the simple and fun physical fitness challenge will be rewarded with one complimentary Bullpen Box ticket and an on-field recognition ceremony during the Spikes’ Healthy Home Runs Day at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Sunday, August 2.

Books and Baseball Program presented by National Penn Bank
The Spikes and National Penn Bank have partnered for the Books and Baseball Reading Program for the 2015 season. This program encourages students to complete a reading program by rewarding them with free Spikes tickets upon completion. Participating students will receive a special bookmark to keep track of the books they read. Any participating student that reads four books under the supervision of their teacher or parent will earn one free ticket for a designated Books and Baseball game during the 2015 season. At those games, participants will be honored from the field for their participation and completion of the programs. The program includes a free assembly and reading presentation with the National Penn Bank Nook Monster at any of the participating schools. Books and Baseball is designed for students in grades K-8.

Spikes Essay Contest presented by the Centre Daily Times
The Spikes Essay Contest is for K-8 students to creatively share their experiences and thoughts about the State College Spikes through pictures or essays. The contest is divided into three different grade levels: K-1, 2-4 and 5-8. Students in kindergarten through first grade are encouraged to include drawings along with one sentence for the theme “If I were Ike the Spike.” The second to fourth grade group will be asked to write a short essay entitled “If I coached the Spikes.” Fifth to eighth graders will be encouraged to write a 300 word or fewer essay entitled “If I could create a new food item for the Spikes, it would be (blank).” A winning essay will be chosen in each of the three age groups and those winners will earn tickets to a 2015 Spikes home game for their entire grade. The submission deadline for the Spikes Essay Contest is June 1.

“Head Above Water” presented by the State College Borough Water Authority
All new for 2015 – the State College Borough Water Authority and the Spikes have partnered to implement a youth water conservation awareness program, “Head Above Water.” Ike the Spike, along with a representative from the State College Borough Water Authority, will be educating students on the importance of water conservation and the effects it can have. The program is an initiative that will encourage students to practice good water conservation habits by rewarding them with a free Spikes ticket upon completion of the program. Participating students will receive a special baseball card to help remind them how to conserve water. Any participating student that completes the water conservation program under the supervision of his or her teacher and/or parent will earn one free ticket to a 2015 Spikes baseball game. The program includes a free assembly and water conservation presentation with Ike the Spike and the State College Borough Water Authority at any of the participating schools.

There is no cost for schools to participate in any of the Spikes school programs. The Spikes, defending New York-Penn League champions, begin their 38-game home schedule with Opening Night on Friday, June 19 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and the slate continues through September 6.

Single-game tickets for each game in the 2015 season will be available starting at TicketFest 2015 on Saturday, May 2 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

RailRiders Roll Out READing Railroad Program

August 12 Designated “Library Night” at PNC Field

Moosic, Pa. – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are encouraging children to curl up with a good book this summer as part of their READing Railroad program. The initiative is a library-based reading program that encourages kids to attend their local library, read and then rewards them with a free ticket to a RailRiders game to be themed “Library Night” on Aug. 12.

The launch of the program coincides with the beginning of “Library Appreciation Week,” which runs April 12-18. Registration forms for READing Railroad have already been sent to libraries in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Wyoming and Wayne counties.

Children ages 4-12 are eligible to participate. Children participating in the program will receive a bookmark from their participating library. As each child checks out and reads a book, the librarian will check off one of the boxes located on the back of the bookmark. Once the child has completed five books, they can turn in their bookmark at the PNC Field Box Office for their free ticket for the Aug. 12 “Library Night” game. Bookmarks can be redeemed at the box office on or before the Aug. 12 game date.

Kids 12 and under attending the game that night can also eat for free as part of “Kids Eat Free Wednesday,” presented by Minooka Subaru.

Miracle League Game Set for Prior to 4/25 Game

Lehigh-Valley-IronPigsThe Lehigh Valley IronPigs will play host to a Miracle League exhibition game and also wear commemorative Miracle League inspired jerseys provided by Majestic Athletic during their game against the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday, April 25 at Coca-Cola Park. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley and the Miracle League of Northampton County.

Miracle-League-logoThe Miracle League exhibition game between the Lehigh Valley team and the Northampton squad will take place from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. In order to allow fans to watch the one-inning contest, all Coca-Cola Park gates will also open promptly at 5 p.m. Dozens of children will take part in the 8th annual Miracle League game at Coca-Cola Park. During the game, each child will have the opportunity to bat and play in the field and the IronPigs players will serve as “angels” and assist the players in all areas of the game.

The Miracle League is dedicated to providing children with special needs and other development disabilities an opportunity to play baseball. Presently there are 250 Miracle League organizations worldwide that provide opportunities to over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities. IronPigs fans can bid on their favorite player’s jerseys from anywhere with the easy-to-use Qtego service that allows fans to place bids, receive notifications when outbid and check the status of their item via text messages on their mobile phones. Fans without texting access can even call in their bid after registering their phone at Coca-Cola Park.

Scranton-W-B-RailRiders-logoThe Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) have been a win-win proposition for years. The partnership of the world’s most famous and successful baseball team’s top-tier farm club with outstanding, affordable, family-friendly entertainment has meant victory for all of NEPA. In 2015, add another possible triumph to the list. The team has added a 50/50 raffle with half of the proceeds going to a lucky winner and the other half heading to the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.

Ronald-McDonald-House-Logo-“The people of Northeastern Pennsylvania are so generous and eager to help others,” said Patricia Stella, president of the McDonald’s Association of Northeastern PA and a local owner/operator. “This season, in partnership with the RailRiders, we encourage fans who attend the games to participate in the 50/50 raffle. The money that is raised will help our Ronald McDonald Houses in Scranton and Danville continue to reach out to the local community and help families with seriously ill children.”

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase during every home game throughout the 2015 season from a roaming seller or at a kiosk located behind home plate on the main concourse. Ticket sales will begin when gates open and close at the end of the seventh inning.

“We appreciate this valuable opportunity to share the mission of the Ronald McDonald House with our community,” said Rich Bradshaw, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Scranton. “Truly it is only through the support of our local community that we are able to help so many families all year round. We are pleased to count the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as one of our mission supporters and proud to have them as our friends.”

The gross prize amount will be displayed on the main scoreboard throughout the game. The winning number will be posted on the main scoreboard at the conclusion of the eighth inning. Adopt-a-Field Program Returns in 2015

Scranton-W-B-RailRiders-logoThere’s something special about a pristine baseball field. Add kids to the scene and you have the storybook home run. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) hope to help area youth enjoy America’s pastime by renovating three fields as part of their Adopt-a-Field Program in 2015.

Two youth softball or baseball fields and one high school field will receive a renovation. Fans can send photos of their field to the RailRiders and write as to why they should be selected. Field nominations should be sent to the RailRiders’ community relations director Rachel Mark (rmark@swbrailriders.com). Submitted fields must be within 30 miles of PNC Field.

This year the RailRiders are proud to partner with Pro’s Choice and Fisher and Son who will graciously donate the materials needed for the renovation of the three fields.

Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 29. Fans will be able to vote on the fields on the RailRiders’ website starting at noon on Monday, March 30. Links to the voting page will be available through social media and the RailRiders’ website. Website voting will end at 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, and the winners will be announced on Monday, April 6. The first renovation is planned for April 16.

The program affords an individualized evaluation and athletic field maintenance clinic to the chosen sites. The teams will be taught how to keep up that same professional-level look for years to come.

“This is a great opportunity to provide those maintaining local fields with the knowledge needed to maintain a safe and beautiful playing surface,” said the team’s director of field operations, Steve Horne. “Many leagues don’t have the tools, manpower or guidance needed to keep their fields in good shape. Hopefully, after our crew comes in to help get them started, we can develop a plan that will benefit the leagues and their players for years to come.”

Media members and fans will be invited to document and watch the progress throughout the day at each site. Other dates and all sites will be announced at a later date once voting concludes.

Cutters Looking for Local Military Heroes

Williamsport-CrosscuttersFor the second year in a row, the Williamsport Crosscutters are partnering with Williamsport Mason’s Lodge #106, & Webb Weekly to salute local heroes on Military Appreciation Night, July 3 at Susquehanna Bank Park when the Cutters host the Auburn Doubledays at 7:05pm.

As part of the night, the first 1,000 fans will receive a 20-card set featuring local Military Heroes courtesy of MasonicTemple Assocation of Williamsport, & Webb Weekly.

“We had such a great response to this last year, that it just made sense to do it again in 2015 and honor more of our local heroes,” stated Gabe Sinicropi, the Cutters Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations.

Fans are asked to nominate local Military Heroes for possible inclusion in the card set. Nominees can be an active or retired member of any branch of the service.

Nomination forms will be printed in Webb Weekly on March 18 and 25 as well the April 1 and 8 editions. Forms can also be downloaded by visiting crosscutters.com or picked up at the Crosscutters offices at Susquehanna Bank Park.

Those who are included in the card set will be invited to the July 3 game, honored on the field and presented with their own 8″x10″ copy of their card. Those who are deceased will be represented by their family.

Kraras Named Ceremonial Flag Service Honoree for Opening Night

Celebration of local business leader and World War II veteran kicks off 2015 Ceremonial Flag Service

Reading-Fightin-Phils-2014Local business leader and World War II veteran Gust “Gus” Kraras will be honored April 17th on Fightins Opening Night as part of the Savage61 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Ceremonial Flag Service Honoree. Kraras’ celebration on Opening Night kicks off the Ceremonial Flag Service for the 2015 season.

In 1950, FirstEnergy Stadium was built as a memorial to the veterans of our community. To bring even more attention to this, a ceremonial flag flies in front of America’s Classic Ballpark at each home game to honor one specific veteran. For the 2015 season, living World War II veterans, in addition do any veterans that have passed, may be honored with the Ceremonial Flag Service. The addition of living World War II honorees is new for 2015 , and on Opening Night, Gus Kraras will become the first of what the Fightins hope will be many World War II veterans to be honored at the ballpark this season.

“The ceremonial flag honoring a veteran became an important, and emotional part of the Fightins game presentation in 2014”, said Fightins General Manager Scott Hunsicker. “In 2015, we really want to engage the families of World War II veterans, and honor these brave men and women. When discussing what World War II veteran should be the first to be honored on Opening Night, we immediately thought of Gust Kraras. He’s a great man. His dedication and contributions to our country and our community are incredible. Plus, he actually sold hot dogs here at the ballpark when it first opened in 1951! We are so excited to honor Gust Kraras on Opening Night, and we invite all the families of World War II Veterans to please contact us so we can honor your loved one as well.”

Born in 1921, Kraras immigrated to the United States in 1938 from Greece when he was just 17 years old. He was living in Nashville during the Pearl Harbor attacks, and a day later, he decided to volunteer into the United States, but wasn’t able to since he wasn’t yet a citizen. He overcame this issue by requesting his draft board to advance his draft number and shortly thereafter, was in the Army and assigned to the Field Artillery.

In 1943, Kraras asked to be transferred to the newly-formed Greek Battalion at Camp Carson, Colorado. Nearly 300 volunteered to be sent on a special mission to occupied Greece and from that, only 173 men and 10 officers were sent. That group was part of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which later evolved into what we now know as the CIA.

Following their extensive training, Kraras and the rest of the Greek Battalion was sent to Cairo, Egypt. On their second day, his group was picked as one of the two that received paratrooper training. Because of Army regulations at the time, Kraras and his party had to volunteer to become paratroopers. The next day, the selected troops went to the then-Palestine to attend British Paratrooper School. In the U.S. Army Paratrooper Schools, training typically lasted 90 days. Kraras training at the British Paratrooper School lasted just three days and five jumps.

Now in Greece, Kraras’ platoon’s missions were all very similar. They would be responsible for blocking highways and waiting for German convoys. Once they would find a convoy, they would dismantle the first and last truck using bazookas and then take on the convoy with everything they had. They would then take off up through the mountains and hide as Germans would attempt to find them-they never did.

Kraras was honorably discharged on November 15, 1945 and he took up residence in Reading where his brother John lived with his family. He went into business with his brother and later, opened up several restaurants in the Reading area and in Wildwood, New Jersey. The Kraras family went on to own and operate numerous restaurants and hotels in the seaside town for over five decades.

He met his wife Stella Dialectos upon returning from the war and married in 1946. They had three children: Chris Kraras, Angel Kraras Cammarano, and Patricia Kraras Donahue. Gus is still involved actively in his business ventures and church community in the Reading and Wildwood areas.

The World War II veterans will be honored, in addition to fallen veterans of all wars, nightly during a pre-game ceremony beside their family and friends. Before each home game, the Fightins raised a ceremonial flag to tribute to their memory and welcomed their family to the game. The flag will then lowered and given to the family following the game. During the ceremony, the Fightins will tell each veteran’s story and present the veteran with a Ceremonial Flag as a token of appreciation for all that they have done in protection of the United States of America.

Reservations for the Savage61 Ceremonial Flag Service are now being taken for the 2015 season. Those interested can call 610-370-BALL ext. 293 to reserve a date. Anyone interested in paying tribute or honor to a veteran is asked to call that number with their preference of a game date. Available game dates are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Fightins will kick off the 65th season of baseball at America’s Classic Ballpark on Friday, April 17th when they host the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the 2015 season can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, or by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium Ticket Office.

Donations Secure Loved One’s Name on Special Aug. 22 Jerseys

Scranton-W-B-RailRiders-logoAn annual tradition takes a twist. In 2015, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ (Triple-A/New York Yankees) Breast Cancer Awareness Game will sport special pink jerseys. And this year, fans can champion the fight or memory of a loved one by placing their names on the jerseys themselves.

With a $20 donation to Susan G. Komen® NEPA, a loved one’s name will appSusan-G.-Komenear as part of a pinstripe on the RailRiders’ Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys. The jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off to the highest bidder that same night, Aug. 22. Submissions for donations and names are due by Friday, May 29.

The night features a number of other activities in recognition of the cause. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a replica pink RailRiders jersey courtesy of PNC Bank. There will be a raffle for a RailRiders’ team-signed pink bat. Breast cancer survivors will receive complimentary tickets and everyone is encouraged to participate in a PNC Field Pink-Out by wearing pink to support the cause.

Entries for names should be sent to the RailRiders’ offices: 235 Montage Mountain Rd., Moosic, PA 18507. Cash or check will be accepted as payment for the $20 donation. Checks should be made payable to: Susan G. Komen® NEPA. Payment must be received before a name is printed. Entrants should include the first and last name to appear on the jersey. Community Organization of the Game Program Returns

Scranton-W-B-RailRiders-logoOne of the signature pieces of community outreach for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) is back and better than ever. The Community Organization of the Game program, presented by the Greater Scranton YMCA, is looking for NEPA community groups that wish to spread their word to the masses during the 2015 season.

YMCA-logo-red&orange“The Greater Scranton YMCA is so excited to serve as the Community Organization of the Game sponsor for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ 2015 season,” said Greater Scranton YMCA mission advancement and marketing director Meghan Davis. “At the Y, our focus areas are youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We believe our partnership with the RailRiders, an organization dedicated to our community, will allow us to give back and serve our community in an even greater capacity.”

A total of 72 non-profit groups, one for each home game, will receive a tip of the cap and more throughout the 2015 campaign. The groups chosen will own a prime spot on the front porch of NEPA. In addition to receiving four free field reserve seats, the group will also have a concourse table allowing them to pass out information on their organization and cause. Beyond that personal face-to-face time, each group will have a live pre-game interview on the field that will be shown to all in attendance on PNC Field’s state-of-the-art video board. The message will be further disseminated with a live in-game interview on the RailRiders’ radio broadcast.

The Community Organization of the Game receives other perks like a ceremonial first pitch, their logo getting some time to shine on the video board and most of all, the chance to interact with the very folks they touch with their efforts.

“We are honored to highlight the great organizations that benefit our community,” said RailRiders interim GM Jeremy Ruby. “These people and their organizations do so much. If we can help get their message out in any way, we are humbly glad to do so.”

Paint The Pig Contest Underway!

It’s that time of the year again… the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, in conjunction with Painting and Decorating by Shane, are encouraging area youngsters to Paint the Pig! The winner will receive an IronPigs prize pack and have his/her artwork decorated on a giant 9′ x 5′ fiberglass piggy bank that will be displayed in the AT&T Plaza at Coca-Cola Park during all IronPigs home games.

Following the deadline, a group of five finalists will be announced in The Morning Call and the general public will then be able to vote for the winning design at www.mcall.com beginning Wednesday, March 11 and ending Sunday, March 15. The child whose drawing receives the most votes will have the winning design painted on the giant piggy bank by a professional artist.

All proceeds from piggy bank donations collected at Coca-Cola Park will benefit IronPigs Charities, a non-profit organization striving to provide educational and recreational opportunities for children in the Greater Lehigh Valley area. IronPigs Charities is a recognized 501(c) (3) non-profit organization on the state and federal level.

Lehigh-Valley-IronPigsThe IronPigs are currently seeking nominations for local little league fields that need field renovations this spring. Please email Dana DeFilippo at ddefilippo@ironpigsbaseball.com with your contact information by Friday, March 13 at 12 p.m. to garner consideration. Please submit a photo of your field as well as a brief synopsis of why your league is deserving of a makeover for 2015.

The winning youth little league organization will receive a complete infield renovation from IronPigs head groundskeeper Ryan Hills and members of the IronPigs front office staff! The IronPigs will assist in all facets of this renovation in an effort to get your league ready for the upcoming season.

The IronPigs’ front office staff takes pride in being active in the community with over 550 hours dedicated to community events and service for non-profits in 2014. This past year, the entire IronPigs staff renovated the East Side Memorial Little League field in Allentown.
