Modesto Nuts Join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY First Campaign

National Initiative will raise funds for Feeding America in response to global pandemic

Modesto, CA, April 28th, 2020 – The Modesto Nuts today announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nuts fans are encouraged to visit CommUNITY First through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the “Modesto Nuts” as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the Modesto/ Central Valley community. For every $10 donated, the Nuts will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to a local hero of the pandemic.

School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.

In response, contributions from Nuts fans and Minor League Baseball will help ensure families and individuals across the country most impacted by the pandemic are fed and cared for during these uncertain times. Nuts Announce Charity 5K

April 10, 2020

MODESTO, CA – Opening Day is usually an incredibly exciting time for communities all over the country. Ballparks open their doors to the smell of fresh cut grass, hot dogs & cotton candy. Families enjoy affordable entertainment that features fun, between inning games, great baseball action and post-game fireworks. Friday, April 17th would have been Opening Day for professional baseball in Stanislaus County. Unfortunately, more important public health issues intervened.

“Baseball will still be here when the COVID-19 pandemic passes. People throughout this community will still need that outlet. Given the circumstances I think it has the potential to come back even stronger than it was before. However, it’s not in anyone’s best interest to be congregating in big groups right now. The health of our community, employees & players is our highest priority” said Zach Brockman, Modesto Nuts General Manager.

Although the doors to John Thurman Field will be closed on April 17th, that doesn’t mean that our community should sit idle. The Modesto Nuts have partnered with Brenda Athletic Clubs to host a very special event. The “Cashew Later Charity 5K” will celebrate what would have been Opening Day, generate much needed funds for families & individuals in need due to COVID-19 and promote health & wellness by asking the community to get up and be active.

“It is our duty as a community venue to do all we can to help those in need. Fitness & Fundraising are synonymous with baseball so why not have a fun active community event that everyone can participate in while still following social distancing standards” continued Brockman.

The Modesto Nuts encourage all fans to participate in a celebration of health & wellness while still maintaining a safe, 6ft distance. The 5K will take place separately and fans will be able to share their run times via social media. Top runners will also receive swag from the Modesto Nuts and Brenda Athletic Clubs (see Facebook event page for details).

With the COVID-19 epidemic currently sweeping our nation the Modesto Nuts reached out to 20-year partner, The Save Mart Companies for help. “Our game day staff looks forward to and depends on the supplemental income during the baseball season. It is our obligation to do everything we can to assist our team members in these tough times.” said Zach Brockman, Modesto Nuts General Manager.

The grocery industry is currently in dire need of employment assistance to keep up with the rising demand of consumers. “We care deeply about our employees and this community as a whole. Power hosting annual Job Fair on Saturday

February 19, 2020

Anyone ages 16 and up can apply for a multitude of gameday positions for the 2020 season

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (February 22, 2020) – The West Virginia Power will host their annual Job Fair on Saturday, February 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. All prospective employees ages 16 and older that are interested in applying for gameday employment opportunities are encouraged to attend this year’s hiring event.

For the 2020 season, the Power has gameday job openings in the following categories: Camera Operators, Concessions, Grounds Crew, Mascot, Production, Promotions, Suite Attendants, Ticket Takers and Ushers. Please note that these positions are only required to work during each of the Power’s 70 home games.

Anyone interested in applying should bring their resume and a list of their schedule availability for the 2020 season, as well as be prepared for an on-site interview during the Job Fair.

National Anthem tryouts will not be held at the Job Fair as in years past. The Power will release the details for National Anthem tryouts at a later date.

Modesto Nuts Release 2019 Community Impact Report

The report covers the 2019 fiscal year and discloses the Nuts contributions of over $375,000 to community related programs.

“Our community is the backbone of everything we do, without it we cannot exist.” said Zach Brockman, General Manager of the Modesto Nuts. “In the coming years, we will be continuing to increase our community footprint and we invite all of our current and potential partners to join us in this initiative.”

With the help of The Parks Group and Mocse Credit Union, the Modesto Nuts Reading Program involved around over 80 schools and over 35,000 local students. The Reading Program motivated children to reach their reading goals by offering performance-based incentives from Save Mart, Chuck E. Cheese, Taco Bell, and The Modesto Nuts.

Non-profit organizations and little leagues used the Modesto Nuts ticket fundraising program to generate much needed funds. Additionally, the Nuts donated gift baskets which included game tickets, premium suites & autographed memorabilia to over 200 different local charities.

Modesto Nuts players, coaching staff, and front office donated their time generously to different organizations throughout the community. From school career fairs, to little league opening days, and much more; the Modesto Nuts were able to teach important values such as chasing dreams, having integrity and working hard for what they want.

Support the 14th Trick-Or-Beat on October 29

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (October 23, 2019) – The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with 98.7 The Beat, will host the 14th annual Trick-Or-Beat celebration, presented by Todd Judy Ford, at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday, October 29. This event provides an all-purpose environment for Charleston area children to enjoy the thrills of trick-or-treating with their families in a safe manner.

The evening will consist of two trick-or-treat sessions, with the first one starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 7 p.m. The second session commences at 7:30 p.m. and runs through 8:30 p.m. During these timeframes, children ages 12 and younger are free to roam around the ballpark, accumulating candy from various decorated and well-lit stations while jamming out to Halloween-themed music provided by DJ ActRight.

Any businesses that wish to set up a table to pass out candy or make a monetary donation towards the purchase of candy should fill out this form and contact the Power front office at 304-344-2287.

There is no cost of admission for the event, but all children are required to have a ticket to enter the ballpark. All tickets come with a pizza voucher redeemable after each child finishes traveling around the ballpark. Adults do not need a ticket to attend the event and should refrain from taking candy from the designated stations and pizza from the concession areas.

Jersey Auction Raises $2435 for CAMC Foundation

August 20, 2019

CHARLESTON, W. Va. (August 20, 2019) – Thanks to an overwhelming amount of support and donations from the community of Charleston, W.Va., the West Virginia Power was able to donate $2,435 to the CAMC Foundation from their recent ‘Hot Shot’ jersey auction held on CAMC Night, August 2, at Appalachian Power Park.

During the Power’s game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Friday, August 2, the team sported special baby blue jerseys with ‘Hot Shots’ embroidered across the front and a stethoscope snaking around the jersey top. The CAMC Foundation logo was displayed on the sleeve as well. Throughout the game, these jerseys were auctioned off on the LiveSource app, with fans bidding on them via their smartphones all across the country. The $2,435 raised during the event pushed the Power’s charitable donation total above $12,000 for the season.

“At the CAMC Foundation, our motto is ‘Giving you the power to change lives’. No truer words could be spoken about our partnership with the Power,” said Bryan Cummings, Senior Development Officer at CAMC. “Their players, administrators, and, most importantly, fans, have helped maximize the impact of charity and philanthropy in our community by connecting passionate donors to causes they care deeply about. Our shared investment in West Virginia creates an opportunity to share and increase knowledge, improve health care and pursue opportunities for positive change. It’s a home run in our eyes.”

The CAMC Employee Emergency Fund, where the money from this auction went towards, is a relief fund set up to assist fellow CAMC employees when something unexpected occurs, such as a sudden financial or medical expense. Over the 19 years that this program has been in existence, the CAMC Foundation has permitted more than 1,500 grants and upwards of $1,000,000 in grant money to employees who have dealt with natural disasters, unsafe living conditions, loss of family members, etc.

Most of the money circulated into this program comes from fellow CAMC employees, who donate anywhere from $2.00 to $15.00 per paycheck to help protect their co-workers when times get tough. According to the CAMC, “If every CAMC employee gave just $2.00 per paycheck, it would raise more than $350,000 a year!”

California League Baseball Teams Unite to Assist With Fire Relief Efforts

December 3, 2018

Oxnard, CA – As California begins it’s slow recovery process after some of the most deadliest & destructive fires in California history, the baseball teams of the California League have decided to step up to the plate and do their part for the relief efforts.

The California League boasts eight teams located throughout the state: San Jose, Stockton, Modesto, Visalia, Lancaster, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and Lake Elsinore. Each team will be producing their own logoed cap with a firefighter theme, created by Cotapaxi, a custom design and manufacturing corporation located in San Diego. These custom caps will only be available for a limited time from each team & can be purchased for $20. Net proceeds from these sales will be donated to support the disaster relief efforts as we enter this holiday season.

“Minor League Baseball is all about being involved with our local communities. These fires have affected everyone in the state, and we all want to do our part to help out as much as we can” stated California League President, Charlie Blaney.

AquaSox Receives NWL Community Service Nomination

October 4, 2018

Everett, WA – The Everett AquaSox have been selected as the Northwest League nominee for Minor League Baseball’s John Henry Moss Community Service Award. The John Henry Moss Community Service Award is awarded to a club that demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support and leadership within their local community and within the baseball industry.

Throughout the season the AquaSox tied theme and promotional nights to the community by partnering with multiple local organizations. This season the AquaSox partnered with Braden Bishop, former Everett AquaSox outfielder and currently Seattle Mariners prospect with his 4MOM Foundation for Local Heroes Night. Braden’s mother, Suzy, was diagnosed in September 2015 with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The night originally was planned to be a Braden Bishop bobblehead giveaway, Everett Fire versus Police Department Home Run Derby and a donation drive for the 4MOM Foundation. Due to a season-ending injury, Braden was able to join the AquaSox for his very own bobblehead giveaway. With his appearance, the AquaSox and fans raised $2,500 for 4MOM Foundation.

“We love supporting the Everett community and beyond year after year,” said General Manager Danny Tetzlaff. “Being recognized for all our efforts by our peers in the Northwest League is very fulfilling.”

Providence Regional Medical Center and the AquaSox worked together annually for Pink in the Park. This event raises money for the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center. Proceeds from the night along with a Star Wars jersey auction on Star Wars Night, June 23 allowed the AquaSox to donate over $5,600 to the Providence Foundation. In addition to Pink in the Park, the AquaSox supported Hilinski’s Hope during Coug Night raising $1,503. Hilinski’s Hope is a foundation geared toward mental health awareness in memory of Tyler Hilinski, who was the Washington State Cougar Quarterback that ended his life earlier this year.

After the August 12 game, the AquaSox hosted a Challenger Miracle League game in which fans of any age and disability come onto the field to play a few innings with our AquaSox players and coaches. It easily one of the best, and most humbling experiences one can have on a field.

“In my first year with the AquaSox, I am proud to be a part of an organization that supports the community and one the community supports,” Director of Community Relations & Merchandise Ashlea LaPlant said. “I look forward to the continued growth of our community outreach.”

Away from the ballpark Webbly and the staff were involved with multiple events including Little Leagues, National Night Out, non-profits, school visits and a welcoming fair for the newest crew to join the Everett Naval Base.

The AquaSox made many new connections, fostered growth with current partnerships and set a new standard for our relationship with the Everett community. We look forward to even more growth in the 2019 season!

Trick-Or-Beat returns on Halloween

CHARLESTON, WV (October 2, 2018) – The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with 98.7 The Beat and West Virginia Radio Corporation, will host the 13th annual Trick-Or-Beat at Appalachian Power Park on October 31, 2018. This event provides a safe and well-lit environment for Charleston area youth to trick-or-treat on Halloween.

“We are happy to be hosting Trick-Or-Beat for the 13th consecutive year,” said Power General Manager Tim Mueller. “This event has always created a fun atmosphere for everyone in the Charleston community to come out and enjoy together.”

There will be two trick-or-treating sessions at the ballpark on October 31. Session one begins at 6:00 P.M. and will last until 7:00 P.M. The second session starts at 7:30 P.M. and will conclude at 8:30 P.M. Children ages 12 and younger are free to walk around the concourse and pick up candy from different illuminated stations. There is no cost of admission, but all children must have a ticket to enter the ballpark.

Tickets are limited to 1,250 per session and are available now at the West Virginia Power front office or at West Virginia Radio Corporation, located at 1111 Virginia Street East in Charleston. Adults do not need a ticket and are asked to refrain from taking any candy during the event.

New for 2019, all tickets come with a pizza voucher, which can be redeemed after each child finishes trick-or-treating for the evening.

Local businesses are encouraged to contact the Power front office or fill out this form if they are interested in making a candy or monetary donation towards the purchase of candy for the night. If businesses are interested in attending the event to pass out candy and set-up table displays, they can also contact the Power to make the necessary arrangements.

AquaSox Release 2017 Community Relations Report

January 15, 2018

Everett, WA – The Everett AquaSox Community Fund launched in 2009 to help fund many community projects, with a focus on education, youth programming and youth sports. Since its inception, the Community Fund has donated over $100,000 in grants to Little Leagues, Boys & Girls Clubs and other local organizations.

In 2017, the Everett AquaSox Community fund donated $21,307 in monetary donations to several non-profit organizations and foundations in the area. The Community Fund raises money primarily through auctions at the ballpark. The season featured six different auctions with the first auction being the Relay for Life jersey. In addition to the Relay for Life jersey, there were Pink in the Park hats, 4th of July hats, FrogStock jerseys, Star Wars jerseys and the fan favorite, FROGS faux-throwback jerseys.

Hit-a-Home-Run in Reading Program increased its enrollment to nearly 23,000 students between Snohomish, King, Island and Skagit counties. Students who read “around-the-bases” received a coupon from Alfy’s pizza, Woodland Park Zoo and a ticket to a game with their school.

The AquaSox continued supporting the Challenger League by hosting two games in 2017. Each game allowed every player in the Challenger League to show off their skills at the plate, in the field and on the mound. All the AquaSox players participated in both events after their game.

Webbly and staff participated in multiple events throughout the season. This included Camp Erin, Socktoberfest, Celebrate Schools 5K, National Adoption Day and more! Everett AquaSox Partner with Toys for Tots

November 9, 2017

Everett, WA – The Everett AquaSox have partnered with U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots for the month of November through December 15. These toys will be distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in South Snohomish County.

The Everett AquaSox are encouraging those in the Everett community to drop off their new, unwrapped toys for children newborn to 18 at the Everett AquaSox Front Office. The Front Office is located at 3802 Broadway, Everett, WA and is open Monday-Friday from 9 AM until 5 PM.

“Giving back to the community that has supported us since 1984 is a major key to our success as an organization.” Marketing & Website Manager, Jason Grohoske said. “We partner with multiple organizations throughout our season, but we value continuing those relationships year-round.”

The AquaSox and their fans donated 79 pairs of adult socks in October for Socktoberfest benefitting Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Socktoberfest raised nearly 1,050 pairs of socks in 2016.

Mini-Plan Ticket Options are currently available for purchase online at www.aquasox.com. This feature enables fans to select their seat for the 12, 16-Game plans or Full Season tickets. In addition, the AquaSox Mini-Plan holders receive exclusive MVP Club Membership benefits and the option to exchange tickets for games they are unable to attend.

AquaSox Reading Program Receives Honor

May 26, 2017

Everett, WA – The Everett AquaSox received the 2016-2017 Spirit of the Community Award from the Everett PTSA Council during their 2016-2017 Awards Recognition Banquet at Everett Community College on May 25, 2017. The AquaSox were recognized for their contributions to the students in the Everett School District. Kellie Howard, Community Relations & Merchandise Manager was on hand to accept the award for the organization from Everett PTSA Council President, Angela Steck and Program Chair, Denise Constantineau. “During my two years with the AquaSox I have had the privilege to kick off our Hit a Home Run in Reading Program and truly see the kids’ eyes light up when they find out they can see an AquaSox game and Webbly all by reading books!” Kellie shared.

Hit a Home Run in Reading Program presented by SoundTransit is a 4-week program that starts in the Spring months and in 2016 over 60 elementary schools and over 27,000 students in Snohomish County participated in this free program. The program kicks off at each school with a special appearance by Webbly and celebrates the reading program awards. In 2017 prizes included a student designed bookmark featuring artwork from four different students, free admission to the Woodland Park Zoo, a personal Alfy’s Pizza, discounted Port of Subs kid’s meal and a ticket to an AquaSox game with their school. Schools are invited to attend select games during our Opening Week where they are recognized during a pre-game on-field parade.

Since 2009 over 200,000 students have participated in the ‘Hit a Home Run Reading’ program. General Manager, Danny Tetzlaff said “We are very honored to have our ‘Hit A Home Run Reading’ program recognized. Using AquaSox baseball to encourage student to read is a real homerun!” The first ‘Hit a Home Run Reading’ program Night is Opening Night June 15 against the Hillsboro Hops.

Generals To Host Two Baseball Camps

May 22, 2017

Jackson, Tenn. – Once again, the Jackson Generals are proud to host a pair of summer baseball camps for children throughout West Tennessee to learn from the pros! Players will serve as instructors both for the one-day Baseball Camp June 23 and for the two-day Skills Camp July 27 and 28!

Both camps will offer the opportunity to learn the game from the best, with the two-day Skills Camp giving kids more time to hone their skills! The first camp will be the morning of Thursday, June 23 from 9:00 am to noon just after the All-Star Break. For just $55, children can participate in the three-hour camp with Generals players. Also included is a sack lunch, a camp t-shirt, an autograph session and a free general admission ticket to that night’s game versus Jacksonville!

The two-day Skills Camp will take place Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28 at The Ballpark! Children ages 9 to 14 will take part in more advanced drills over two days, with the sessions going from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Included in the experience is an exclusive camp t-shirt, an autograph session, a sack lunch both days along with both a ticket and food passport for the July 28 game versus Mobile! Skills Camp is just $130 for the first child, and $120 for any additional camper. Teams of nine or more can get the group rate of only $60 per camper!
