Legends & SAL teams partner with The BairFind Foundation

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – The Lexington Legends are pleased to announce three missing children, whose status as missing was advertised at Whitaker Bank Ballpark through The BairFind Foundation, have been located and returned home. The BairFind Foundation partners with 153 Minor League Baseball teams to publicize missing children with the hope of locating them as a result. So far this baseball season 224 children have been located across the country. Teams in the South Atlantic League have successfully helped locate over 30 missing children as a result of their participation in the BairFind program, a testament to the passion of our fans for our community.

“The SAL partnership with The BairFind Foundation is a great example of how the Clubs turn the support they receive from their fans into another way to help their communities” said Eric Krupa, South Atlantic League President. “While the act of looking at a sign seems simple, all those eyes on those signs can really help the families whose children are missing. Everyone can participate and do their part by taking a moment to look at the pictures the next time you are at the ballpark.”

The BairFind Foundation is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to find missing children, and is an Official Homegrown Charity Partner of Minor League Baseball, which was just named a Classy Top 100 Non-Profit and Social Enterprise for 2017. The BairFind Foundation produces high definition, attractive signs for sports stadiums and arenas that feature photos of each city’s missing children. BairFind signs are placed in high visibility areas and are seen by millions of sports fans each season, greatly increasing the chances that featured children will be safely located.

The Lexington Legends are immensely proud to support and partner with The BairFind Foundation (www.bairfind.org) in conjunction with other Minor League Baseball teams across the country, as recently featured in USA Today (article below). The BairFind Foundation founder Dennis Bair, a former minor league baseball pitcher, said “A major challenge for a family with a missing child is how to keep their child’s photo in public view. This summer, the Lexington Legends have placed a BairFind sign featuring area missing children on their ballpark concourse for all the fans to see, greatly increasing the chances that someone will recognize a child’s picture and that they’ll be safely located. We are proud to partner with the Lexington Legends and the South Atlantic League, who were among the earliest adopters of our initiative.”

The Lexington Legends Executive Vice President Gary Durbin, will be officially placing ‘FOUND’ stickers on The BairFind Foundation sign on the children who have been located during the 7:05pm game tonight, July 21, 2017.

RiverDogs Reschedule Peanut-Free Night at The Joe

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After a rain out on Wednesday night, the Charleston RiverDogs have announced they have rescheduled Peanut-Free Night presented by Charleston Allergy and Asthma at The Joe to an upcoming home date on Wednesday, August 2 at 7:05pm.

For one night only, no peanuts will be on sale at the park with special sections for those with peanuts allergies available. The designated areas will be completely peanut-free with a thorough cleansing of the sections prior to the game.

Lower reserved tickets to the peanut-free zone are $10 each. For $17, fans receive a ticket to the peanut-free seating along with a meal voucher. For fans that can’t miss out on the favorite ballpark snack, packing peanuts and circus peanuts will be available for sale as the RiverDogs take on Columbia.

Along with the peanut-free festivities at the park, the first 1,248 fans at the gate will receive their very own Justin Pope hat as part of “Wardrobe Wednesdays” presented by WEZL in recognition of the Charleston pitching coach who guided the RiverDogs’ 2016 staff to a franchise record strike out total. “The Pope” and the RiverDogs hurlers will take on the Columbia Fireflies in the finale of a three-game series.

Shorebirds to Hold Collection for Brooke’s Toy Closet

SALISBURY, Md. — The Delmarva Shorebirds are proud to partner with Market Street Inn and MoJo’s again in 2017 to hold a toy drive to benefit Brooke’s Toy Closet at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Brooke’s Toy Closet was started in 2014 by Brooke Mulford, a local girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer, in January of 2009, when she was four years old. Brooke, unfortunately, lost her battle with cancer earlier this year on June 12th. Brooke’s Toy Closet is a special cabinet filled with toys, coloring books and other goodies that PRMC’s Emergency Department and Pediatrics Unit can give to children who are hospitalized. The recipients of these gifts will be able to use them when they’re in the hospital, and take them home to enjoy when they are feeling better.

The toy drive will be held on Saturday, July 29th when the Shorebirds host their annual Christmas in July game at 7:05 PM against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Gates will open at 4:00 PM so that fans can watch the Shorebirds and Grasshoppers take batting practice. The Shorebirds will be holding the collection in the Fun Zone outside the main gates of Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Those who make a donation will receive a ticket voucher to a future 2017 Shorebirds home game, a $10 gift card to Market Street or MoJo’s and an entry in a raffle to win another $50 gift card to each restaurant. The Shorebirds will accept new unwrapped toys, activity books, and other children’s toy items.

That night’s game will also feature the Shorebirds wearing special Christmas-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Shorebirds Fly Together Fund and a postgame Q105 fireworks show presented by MoJo’s and Market Street Inn.

BlueClaws, Bush’s Best to Hold Food Drive at July 28th Game

LAKEWOOD, NJ – In honor of National Baked Beans Month, the BlueClaws and Bush’s Best will be hosting a Food Drive on Friday, July 28th at the 7:05 pm game.

The BlueClaws will be collecting Bush’s Baked Beans and other non-perishable food at the game. Fans are instructed to bring their donations to the New Jersey Natural Gas Information Booth on the concourse behind home plate.

Anyone that donates will receive two tickets to the BlueClaws game on August 30th.

All donations will benefit The Salvation Army of Ocean County for their Hearty Helpings Food Pantry.

July 28th is a Friday, and that means the BlueClaws will have post-game fireworks thanks to Carl’s Fencing. It’s also Italian Heritage Night, with food specials and a pre-game performance from Frank James.

Drive Announce Bob Hughes as 12th Annual Green Day Honoree

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Drive announced today that Bob Hughes, Chairman of Hughes Development Corporation, has been selected as the honoree for the team’s annual Green Day event. The 12th annual Green Day celebration presented by TD Bank will be held Tuesday, August 1st at Fluor Field when the Drive host the Asheville Tourists at 7:05 PM.

Each year, the Drive pay tribute to an individual who has helped make Greenville one of the most dynamic regions in the country. Hughes has been chosen as the 2017 honoree due to his significant role in the renaissance of Downtown Greenville through real estate and mixed-use development, and he has been one of Greenville’s primary visionaries in the continuing growth of the local community.

“Bob is an individual that has devoted his personal and professional life to making Greenville a very special place – to make Greenville a place of note for its design, its offerings, its opportunities and its energy. A place where people gather, and a place where people feel welcome, and it was only appropriate for us the Greenville Drive to recognize his leadership as we celebrate Green Day,” said Craig Brown, Drive Owner and Team President. “Our organization has seen firsthand the impact that Bob has made on Greenville, and the impact he has made will be felt for generations.”

Legends Team Up with Tempur Sealy and Sleep Outfitters for Bed Donation Event and Pajama Party

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – The Lexington Legends have partnered with Tempur Sealy and Sleep Outfitters for ‘Pajama Party Night’ on the July 28 home game versus the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05pm, the culmination of a summer long partnership between the three Lexington companies.

The partnership started in April with the donation of 30 Tempur-Pedic Twin XL mattress and bed foundations for the Lexington Legends players, and blossomed into a community outreach effort between the three companies which grew to include the Kansas City Royals and North Broadway Auto. Director of Minor League Operations for the Kansas City Royals, Ronnie Richardson, expresses how the impact of such a substantial donation is to a Minor League player who is just beginning their career in baseball. “The Kansas City Royals and Lexington Legends are really appreciative of the generous donation by Tempur Sealy. The opportunity to provide mattresses for our players here in Lexington really helps us achieve our goal of creating the best possible environment for the players both on and off the field.”

In addition to providing mattresses to Legends players, Tempur Sealy wanted to truly make their donation impactful throughout the Lexington community, which is where the Lexington Legends were able to make the connection and to grow this into a fun community night at the ballpark. One hundred students from Russell Cave Elementary and Winburn Middle School, who have been selected through the Family Resource Coordinators at each school, will be receiving a Tempur-Pedic Twin mattress and bed foundation courtesy of Tempur Sealy and Sleep Outfitters. Not only will these students be taking home new mattresses, they also will be receiving new bedding courtesy of the Kansas City Royals and/or North Broadway Auto.

“We are just as excited to be able to donate Kansas City Royals bedding as Tempur Sealy donates mattresses to local children in the Lexington community. We want to thank Tempur Sealy and the Lexington Legends for all of the efforts” continues Richardson of the Kansas City Royals. The Lexington Legends, Tempur Sealy and Sleep Outfitters are rolling out the red carpet for the 100 students at Pajama Party Night, held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Friday, July 28. The students and their families will receive transportation to and from the game by Gold Shield charter buses, outfitted in Legends gear, provided game tickets, participate in on-field contests throughout the game and will be the fireworks Grand Marshalls – who will count down the fireworks while sitting atop Tempur-Pedic beds set-up behind homeplate. They will have a meet and greet session with Legends players on the field where they can get pictures and autographs. “We are thrilled to be able to be a part of this remarkable event” expresses Sarah Bosso, Legends Vice President of Business Development. “Mattresses, bed foundations and bedding are sometimes an overlooked need and we are so thankful for amazing community partners like Tempur Sealy, Sleep Outfitters, North Broadway Auto and our parent club the Kansas City Royals for being able to help coordinate such an impactful event for the Northside of Lexington.”

The Legends welcome all fans attending the Friday, July 28 game to bring new, unopened twin sheet sets as a donation to the game for the opportunity to watch the fireworks post-game on the outfield. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on and dress in pajama-like attire to accompany the “Pajama Party” theme of the night.

BlueClaws, CJBC Blood Drive on July 29th

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center are teaming up for a blood drive on Saturday, July 29th from 7 am – 2 pm at FirstEnergy Park.The drive will take place in the BlueClaws Executive Conference Center and each donor will receive a pair of tickets for a 2017 BlueClaws game.

The BlueClaws encourage all fans to donate as the supply of blood needs to be replenished at this time.

RiverDogs “Knock ‘Em Out of the Park” With Second Annual Peanut-Free Night at The Joe

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Back by popular demand, the Charleston RiverDogs will once again take a big cut and “knock ’em out of the park” as they hold a Peanut-Free Night presented by Charleston Allergy and Asthma at The Joe on Wednesday, July 19 at 7:05 pm.

For one night only, no peanuts will be on sale at the park with special sections for those with peanuts allergies available. The designated areas will be completely peanut-free with a thorough cleansing of the sections prior to the game.

“We received a lot of positive feedback after hosting this night a season ago, and we’re happy to once again provide a safe and relaxing night out at The Joe for baseball fans with peanut allergies along with their friends and family,” said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols.

Legends to celebrate the United States Armed Forces July 8!

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – Honoring the United States Armed Forces is something that the Lexington Legends do every home game in a variety of ways, but there is always one game dedicated to specifically saying “Thank You” to those who have served our country. July 8th is the night the Lexington Legends have reserved as their Military Appreciation Night, which has been celebrated by the organization since their inception in 2001. Military Appreciation Night is presented by LFUCG Department of Environmental Quality.

The night features special ticket offers and discounts for Active Duty and Retired Military as well as Veterans, Armed Forces branch music and recognitions throughout the game, a 20 foot by 30 foot American Flag in the outfield for the National Anthem, Mine-craft inspired digital camo jerseys worn on-field by the Legends players, with those jerseys in a silent auction taking place throughout the game; giving fans the opportunity to take home the special jerseys, the Joe Everson original painting of Iwo Jima (from the July 4th National Anthem) will also be included in the silent auction, and much more. The most highlighted features of the evening are the honorary ceremonial first pitchers and four of the thirty people who will be unveiling the 20 foot by 30 foot American Flag for the National Anthem.

There will be five ceremonial first pitches tossed out by five unique individuals who have bravely served our country in one way or another. First, Colonel Pete Evans, U.S. Army (RET) who has served in Afghanistan, Korea and to the Pentagon. Second pitch will be Mike Niklarz, who is the Director of Kentucky’s National Cemetery Complex, which consists of 9 locations and includes historic Camp Nelson National Cemetery. The Legends third ceremonial first pitch is a 30 year U.S. Air Force veteran and Master Navigator Colonel Mark Roland. Colonel Roland and his wife Barbara are also Gold Star parents-their son, Air Force Captain Matthew Roland paid the ultimate sacrifice August 26, 2015 and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry. Gunnery Sergeant James R. Barnett is the fourth ceremonial first pitch, as he has been named “Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year” for the 623rd Field Artillery Battalion, the 38th Field Artillery Brigade, and the Kentucky National Guard for 2017. The fifth and final ceremonial first pitch is 97 year old Captain Helen Horlacher Evans, from Lexington, Kentucky. Captain Helen Horlacher Evans is one of the few remaining female World War II veterans still alive today.

The National Anthem for the July 8 game will feature a 20 foot by 30 foot American flag, unveiled by the assistance of thirty retired military, veterans, military family members, and four Tuskegee Airmen; the first African American Fighter and Bomber Pilots in the United States Armed Forces.

The Legends welcome media for photographs and interviews to help honor and support those who will be recognized at the 2017 Military Appreciation Night game, July 8 with gates opening at 5:30pm and first pitch 6:35pm.

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The annual BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing returns to Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood on Monday, August 14th.

The event, which features a meet-and-greet with BlueClaws players, raises money for BlueClaws Charities, the BlueClaws official non-profit foundation, and their Community Partner organizations.

The Nine & Dine Golf Outing includes nine holes of golf (scramble format), range balls, locker room usage, a post-round reception, a player meet and greet on the course, and a raffle ticket for the post-round silent auction.

“This ‘Nine and Dine’ format lets golfters take a half day from work, come over to the course, and play a relaxed round while raising money for BlueClaws Charities,” said Jim DeAngelis, Executive Director of BlueClaws Charities.”It’s a great cause and we look forward to another great event.”

The range opens at 2 pm, when registration begins. Golf will begin, via a shotgun start, at 3 pm and the post-golf reception, which includes a silent auction, will begin at 6 pm.

Registration is $125 for an individual golfer or $500 for a foursome. Access only to the post-golf reception is $50. There are also sponsorship opportunities available.

Legends help honor ‘Phenomenal Father’ David Cozart of Fayette County Fatherhood Initiative on the TODAY Show

‘Dads Donate Auction Proceeds to Frye Patient Fund

Hickory, NC- The Hickory Crawdads have announced that 100% of the proceeds from last month’s auction for game-used pink bats have been donated to the Patient Fund at Frye Regional Medical Center.

“The Hickory Crawdads are such an asset to our community, and Frye appreciates their willingness to raise money to help women who need a mammogram but can’t afford one,” said Dana Killian, Vice President of Business Development for Frye Regional. “Many women in our community will benefit from this donation, and in the battle against breast cancer, early detection is key.”

The Patient Fund covers the cost of mammography services for women who may be indigent or underinsured and would not otherwise be able to afford the imaging services. The fund pays for screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms (when a screening mammogram may detect an abnormality), breast ultrasounds and breast biopsies. From Sept. 2015 to April 2017, the patient fund has helped 86 women and covered the cost of 101 exams.

Fluor Field Hosts Military Appreciation Day on July 2nd

The Drive will celebrate Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, July 2nd at Fluor Field. The game against the Lexington Legends will begin at 4:05 PM, and the Drive are honored to recognize the brave men and women who have served, or continue to serve, our country as part of this special day.

Throughout the evening, the Drive will team up with Upstate Warrior Solution, a nonprofit that assists warriors with future opportunities and encourages the community to embrace them as neighbors and friends.   Prior to the game, the Drive will have a special military vehicle display on Field Street for kids to take pictures with.

The military celebrations will also begin before the game with a fly-in by the U.S. Army Special Forces Parachute Team and a flyover of Warbirds Vintage Aircrafts.

March of Dimes Celebration on Tuesday

The Drive’s latest homestand begins on Tuesday as the Drive team up with the March of Dimes for a special night.

First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and the Drive will be celebrating the daily efforts of the March of Dimes to “Go to Bat for Babies.” All March of Dimes attendees will take part in a picnic in The Iron Yard 500 Club when gates open at 6:00, and March of Dimes kids will be recognized with a pregame parade around Fluor Field as well as during in-game entertainment.

Vs. Cancer Night: Pediatric cancer fundraiser this Saturday with a goal of $8,000

The West Virginia Power will host a Vs. Cancer night on Saturday June 10. West Virginia plays the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 6:05 P.M. and will raise money for the Vs. Cancer Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Vs. Cancer is an organization that donates money to pediatric cancer research. 50 percent of all donations fund local pediatric cancer programs and the other 50 percent funds pediatric brain tumor research. Each day 250 children in the United States lose their lives to cancer and 13 children are diagnosed with brain tumors.

“We’re glad to be assisting in such a worthy cause,” Executive Vice President Ken Fogel said, “I hope that whatever small part we play helps them reach their goals.”

The Power have set a goal of $8,000 with a deadline on June 10. The Minor League Baseball campaign, which the Power are a part of, have a $45,000 total goal. If the Power reach their goal, members of the front office staff will shave their heads.

“This is a great charity that will help a lot of kids in the greater Charleston area, as well as fund national research,” Garrett Weller, The West Virginia Power Production Manager said, “I’ve never had my head shaved before, but I’m excited for us to meet our goal and would be honored to do it for the kids.”
