“With the addition of at least one new full-size bus in each club in Frisco, McKinney and Plano, we will be able to add over 300 new members, impacting these young lives with great programs in a safe, nurturing environment, where we concentrate on academic success, character and leadership as well as health and life skills,” said Mike Simpson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County. “New buses are the vehicles to great futures for more kids.”

A portion of the proceeds from following events will be earmarked for the Bus Fund:

* Riders Classic golf tournament (July 10)

* RoughRiders Baseball Academy (all summer)

* RoughRiders Foundation in-game fundraisers

* Riders 50/50 Raffle (Wednesday-Sunday raffles)

* Auctioned autographed items and sports memorabilia

“It’s important for the Frisco RoughRiders to make memories for our community in and out of the stadium,” said Breon Dennis, Executive Director of the RoughRiders Foundation. “The 72-passenger bus will let children at the club know that the future is now and we support them. I hope the entire North Texas community will join in this campaign to make a difference together.”

Express Donate K-9 Unit to Round Rock Police Department

April 25, 2018

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express are proud to announce that the team has donated a 22-month-old Belgian Malinois K-9 unit named Vada to the Round Rock Police Department. Express Owners Don and Bret Sanders purchased Vada from Slovak Working Dogs overseas, brought her to the United States, and facilitated the donation on behalf of the team.

The gesture comes less than a year after beloved RRPD K-9 Dega passed away following the discovery of an inoperable tumor. Dega was honored for her service at the Round Rock Express game on April 10, 2017, less than a month before her passing.

“We are incredibly proud to present Vada to the Round Rock Police Department on behalf of the Round Rock Express,” Bret Sanders said. “After my Dad and I heard of Dega’s passing, we wanted to help. This is just a small token of our appreciation for everything that RRPD does to keep not only Dell Diamond, but the entire City of Round Rock safe on a daily basis.”

Vada began her career in the K-9 patrol division but is quickly working up the ranks. This spring, she was certified by the National Narcotics Detector Dog Association to detect the odor of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and methamphetamines. In fact, on her way home from being certified by NNDAA, Vada assisted in the arrest of an individual carrying illegal narcotics.

The RRPD is currently training Vada in the disciplines of article searching and tracking. Vada will soon be able to follow and track human odor and the disruption of the vegetative state to the source.

The Sanders Family are no strangers to generosity when it comes to animals and law enforcement. Don is the founder of the Houston Police Foundation and previously served as Director of the Houston Police Pension System. He also financed a state-of-the-art shelter and facility at the Friends for Life animal shelter, a no-kill animal rescue and adoption shelter in Houston. The Sanders Family also previously donated two K-9 units and a police horse to the Houston Police Department.

“We are very thankful and appreciative of the Sanders Family and the Round Rock Express ownership group.” RRPD Officer Robert Ramos said. “Vada has been an amazing addition to the Round Rock PD family, as well as my family at home. She has surpassed my expectations and I could not be happier with her performance and where we are as a K-9 team.”

Fans will have their first chance to meet Vada on Sunday, May 6 during Bark in the Park at Dell Diamond. Vada will be honored alongside Officer Ramos before the 1:05 p.m. game against the Iowa Cubs. Fans are encouraged to bring their own four-legged friends to the game as well. More information about Bark in the Park at Dell Diamond can be found here.

Single-game tickets, season memberships and flex plan ticket packages are on sale now. For more information on the Express, visit RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter!

The Redband Rally Continues: Indians’ Staff Spends Day with Spokane Tribal Fisheries

October 2, 2017

Spokane, WASH. – Not even the offseason can stop the Spokane Indians historic Redband Rally Campaign.  Last month, the Spokane Indians Baseball front office staff spent the day on Lake Roosevelt and its tributaries with biologists from the Spokane Tribal Fisheries Department to learn more about protecting the native Redband Trout.

Four fisheries research vessels, including the newest boat to the fleet called the “Big Dawg” which features the Indians baseball historic Redband logo, spent the day up and down the river gill netting and electrofishing invasive Northern Pike. Northern Pike, the primary threat to Redband Trout, were illegally introduced into the watershed years ago and have proven destructive to the ecosystem. Additionally, Indians staff participated in their long term Sturgeon Research Project (since 1995) and Water Quality Monitoring Project.

“Anytime we can assist in protecting the Redband, we have interest,” said Indians Senior VP Otto Klein. “Not only do we owe it to our partners on this project, but also to the general health of all species in the river.”

2017 was the inaugural season of the Spokane Indians Redband Rally Campaign presented by the City of Spokane.  In addition to a new alternate brand and team mascot, the campaign raises money for the native Redband Trout habitat while highlighting the City’s efforts to clean the Spokane River.

Citizens can help protect the Redband Trout and the rest of the native inhabitants of the Spokane River by donating to the Redband Rally Fund. The fund, which is administered by the Inland Northwest Community Foundation, raises money for local organizations to conserve and protect the Spokane River and its native Redband Trout.

To help promote the Redband Rally Campaign throughout the 2017 season, the Spokane Indians Baseball Club unveiled a new mascot at Avista Stadium named “Ribby the Redband Trout” and distributed free Redband Headbands for fans to wear during the game. Along with Ribby, Indians players wore special Redband Jerseys for six games throughout season. While the Redband Jerseys were available through an online auction during the month of September, there are multiple new Redband merchandise items currently for sale at the Spokane Indians Team Store. $5 from each piece of Redband merchandise sold will be donated to the Redband Rally Campaign.

Spokane Indians’ Staff Helps Install Youth Baseball Field at Glover Park

September 29, 2017

Spokane, WASH. – The off-season for the Spokane Indians Baseball Club remained busy this week as the front office staff was out in full force refurbishing a youth baseball field at Glover Park. In partnership with the KXLY 4 News Extreme Team lead by Mark Peterson , the baseball diamond located at Glover Park was identified as needed help from the community.  This presented an opportunity the Indians couldn’t resist.

The KXLY Extreme Team completely refurbished the old Peaceful Valley Community Center which sits adjacent to the park and has now been renamed the Recovery Cafe. While fully mobilized with construction equipment and volunteers, the idea of working on the baseball field at the same time was introduced. With permission from the Spokane Tribe of Indians and recommendation to work with a state historical archaeologist, a plan was established to add top soil and dugouts to the site without disturbing any of the ground.

“We want to promote baseball at all levels and it starts with having a safe place to play,” said Indians Senior VP Otto Klein. “Not only is it a beautiful setting, it has deep meaning to the community and our partners at the Spokane Tribe that makes it a perfect project to work on.”

Glover Field was renamed in 1917 and dedicated to James N. Glover, a founding father of the city of Spokane. The park is currently one of 87 parks operated by the City of Spokane Parks Department. It also has deep meaning to the Spokane Tribe of Indians as it often served as an encampment for the tribe throughout history. A state tribal archaeologist was on hand during the process to make sure no land or artifacts were disturbed.

“The City of Spokane Parks Department oversees 2,000 acres of developed parkland in the City of Spokane,” said Carl Strong, Assistant Director of Park Operations. “This is a historic area and we’re proud to see help from the community to make it even better.”

Spokane Youth Sports Association (SYSA), which provides sports activities for all youth, will add the field to its spring baseball line-up and start scheduling regular practices and games.

“Adding another youth baseball field in this community is huge for us,” said SYSA Executive Director Phil Helean. “We have a shortage of fields compared to other communities our size, so adding one more is a step in the right direction.”

September 15, 2017

ROUND ROCK, Texas – One state, one team. The Round Rock Express launched specially designed t-shirts Thursday afternoon to raise money for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. “As an organization, we know we must rely on and help each other to be the best we can be,” said Express General Manager Tim Jackson. “No matter our differences, we are all working for the same end goal as one cohesive unit. Following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, Texans exemplified this by coming together to help each other out. Even those who were impacted are reaching out to others to see how they can help. Texans truly are rebuilding in the spirit of one team.”

All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go directly to the Rebuild Texas Fund, headed up by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. They are focused on helping people in their time of greatest need and also addressing the long-term rebuilding effort in South Texas.

Proceeds from Reckless Kelly’s Celebrity Softball Jam Shifted Towards Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

August 31, 2017

ROUND ROCK, Texas – For the past eight years, Reckless Kelly’s Celebrity Softball Jam has been about giving back to Central Texas. This year, the mission is even greater. Proceeds from this year’s Jam will go towards relief efforts in South Texas following the devastating path of destruction left by Hurricane Harvey.

“Every year, we have been able to raise money to make a difference in the community through this project,” said Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly. “After the events of the past week, we knew we needed to direct funds to the relief efforts in Houston and the gulf coast any way we could. That is the main priority for those of us in Texas right now.”

As those in South Texas continue to assess the damage and begin the rebuilding process, funds from this year’s event will go towards the areas that need the most support.

“We have this great platform to help the people of South Texas,” said Round Rock Express President Chris Almendarez. “By combining the resources of the artists, athletes and media personalities involved with this event, we can really make a difference in the relief efforts as people begin to rebuild across Texas.”

Organizers will continue to work with Kids in a New Groove and Honor Flight Austin throughout the year to support their missions with outreach, volunteer hours and donation drives.

Since its inception, the Jam has raised over $350,000 through the Reckless Kelly Charitable Youth Foundation for area youth leagues, including the funding of a $150,000 renovation of Mabson Field in East Austin, TX.

Randy Rogers Joins Lineup for Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam

August 2, 2017

ROUND ROCK, TX – Look Out Yonder and fans will see a new addition to the musical lineup for the 9th annual Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam. Texas crooner Randy Rogers will be Actin’ Crazy when he takes the stage at Dell Diamond, joining Wade Bowen, Roger Creager, Cody Canada & the Departed and the boys of Reckless Kelly.

Rogers has been performing with the Randy Rogers Band for the past 15 years, steadily building a following that has expanded beyond their Texas roots. Their newest album Nothing Shines Like Neon is a collection that showcases the band’s taut musicianship as well as Rogers’ earnest vocals and insightful songwriting. In 2015, Rogers teamed up with fellow Jam performer Bowen on the critically acclaimed album Hold My Beer Vol. 1.

The Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam combines an athleticism-optional and antic-filled softball game with hours of live, musical entertainment on two stages.

The event will kick off at 1 p.m. with the softball game featuring former major leaguers Josh Beckett, Norm Charlton, Brooks Kieschnick and Glenn Wilson along with former Longhorns and NFL players Quan Cosby and Kasey Studdard. Following the game, fans will be invited onto the outfield for a concert featuring 20+ acts.

KGSR’s Andy Langer will once again take over the mic alongside fellow media stars Addie Broyles, Anne Hudson, Brendan Anthony, Charlie Hodge, Eric Raines, Bob Ballou and Ricky Doyle.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Nolan Ryan Foundation and the Reckless Kelly Charitable Youth Foundation, with a focus on supporting youth sports programs in Central Texas. Since its inception, the Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam has raised over $350,000 for area youth leagues, including the funding of a $150,000 renovation of Mabson Field in East Austin, TX.

Tickets for the 9th Annual RKCSJ are on sale now for just $20 and can be purchased online at RKCSJ.org. Tickets will go up to $25 on September 1.

‘Dads Donate Auction Proceeds to Frye Patient Fund

June 15, 2017

Hickory, NC- The Hickory Crawdads have announced that 100% of the proceeds from last month’s auction for game-used pink bats have been donated to the Patient Fund at Frye Regional Medical Center.

“The Hickory Crawdads are such an asset to our community, and Frye appreciates their willingness to raise money to help women who need a mammogram but can’t afford one,” said Dana Killian, Vice President of Business Development for Frye Regional. “Many women in our community will benefit from this donation, and in the battle against breast cancer, early detection is key.”

The Patient Fund covers the cost of mammography services for women who may be indigent or underinsured and would not otherwise be able to afford the imaging services. The fund pays for screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms (when a screening mammogram may detect an abnormality), breast ultrasounds and breast biopsies. From Sept. 2015 to April 2017, the patient fund has helped 86 women and covered the cost of 101 exams.

Frye Regional Medical Center is the official hospital of the Hickory Crawdads. For more information, call the ‘Dads at 828-322-3000.
