The Charleston RiverDogs are looking to fill the remainder of their more than 200 gameday positions at The Joe for the upcoming 2020 season. With that goal in mind, the team will be hosting a second job fair this Saturday, March 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Positions are available in a variety of different roles for applicants with varying levels of experience. The primary requirement for all applicants is a willingness to help the RiverDogs Make Fun! On-site interviews will be conducted for the following positions:

· Food & Beverage cooks at any level of experience (experience cooking with a smoker is a plus!)

· Stadium Operations Assistant

· Security

· Guest Relations

· Cashiers

· Picnic Staff

· Box Seat Servers

· Food Runners

· Alcohol Servers

· Parking Squad

· Kids Zone Attendants

Sod Poodles To Host 2020 Team Mascot Auditions

 

Along with National Anthem auditions, the Amarillo Sod Poodles will also be hosting public team mascot auditions for the 2020 season on Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at HODGETOWN.

Individuals auditioning for the mascot position must be between five-foot-six and five-foot-eleven inches in height for the costume fit (please wear workout-type or athletic attire). Mascot experience with a high school, college and/or a sports team is preferred.

Walk-up auditions on Saturday, March 14 are welcome but are not guaranteed and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, as time permits. To ensure a slot, contacting ahead of time is recommended since time slots are also limited.

All participants for both the Mascot and National Anthem auditions can enter through the Sod Poodles Team Shop at 715 South Buchanan next to the HODGETOWN box office. Sod Poodles team members will direct all individuals to the check-in and audition area. Entrance to the audition area will begin at 9:45 a.m.

The Sod Poodles host their 2020 home opener at HODGETOWN on Thursday, April 16 against the Arkansas Travelers (Seattle Mariners Double-A affiliate) for a three-game set. First pitch for the 2020 home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

National Anthem auditions set for April 4 at Crossgates

 

TROY, NY – The Tri-City ValleyCats will be holding their 10th Annual National Anthem auditions on Saturday, April 4 at Crossgates from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Selected finalists will participate in an online fan vote, with the top vote recipient having the opportunity to sing at a premier ValleyCats game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium this summer, in front of an expected crowd of over 5,000 fans.

Hosted by Jaime Roberts heard weekday mornings from 6am – 10am on 98.3 TRY, the auditions will take place on the lower level near Lord & Taylor. Registration will begin promptly at 9:30am and auditions will be conducted on a first-come, first-perform basis. Performances can be sung individually or as a group, and may also be performed on an instrument that does not require power.

A panel of judges will be scoring the performances based on sound quality, stage presence, and song accuracy.

The ValleyCats 2020 home opener is set for Wednesday, June 24 as the 19th season of Minor League Baseball begins at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.

Cannon Ballers to Host National Anthem Auditions for Inaugural Season

 

(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) – The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers will be searching for the best National Anthem performers that the surrounding counties have to offer on Sunday, March 15th at Cabarrus Brewing Company for their inaugural season at Atrium Health Ballpark. This free event, hosted by one of Cabarrus County’s top breweries, will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and performers of all ages are welcome (performers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

To secure an opportunity to audition on March 15th, interested performers must pre-register at kcballers.com before the day of the event. Each individual will be given no more than two minutes to sing the National Anthem acapella. Performers with instruments are more than welcome to audition but will need to bring their own equipment and a supply of power will not be available.

Annual OKC Dodgers High School Baseball Series Returns This Week

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers have announced the schedule for their 10th annual High School Baseball Series, beginning later this week at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The series begins Friday, March 6 and will feature a total of 12 games. The High School Baseball Series has an expanded schedule in 2020 after Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark underwent a complete field renovation in 2019.

In addition, the High School Baseball Series will include the OSSAA Class 5A and Class 6A Championship Games on Saturday, May 16.

The OKC Dodgers High School Baseball Series gives teams and their fans a chance to have a “professional” experience complete with the use of batting cages, dugouts and state-of-the-art scoreboards. Both teams have access to the home and visiting clubhouses, normally reserved only for the Oklahoma City Dodgers and visiting Pacific Coast League teams. Also, each school will have a professional team photo taken on the field prior to the game.

“This tradition signals baseball season has returned to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark,” said OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes. “The High School Baseball Series is now in its 10th year providing long-lasting memories for the players and the communities they represent.”

All games during the High School Baseball Series are free to the public, and there will be complimentary parking in the Joe Carter Lot, located at the northeast corner of Reno and Joe Carter Avenues. Sea Dogs to Hold Job Fair on March 13th

 

Portland, Maine– The Portland Sea Dogs will host a job fair to hire part-time seasonal employees for the 2020 season on Friday, March 13th from noon to 4:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs are looking to fill a variety of game day positions including Ticket Operations, Souvenirs, Concessions, Batboys, and Camera Operators.

‘All Abilities’ Night features sign language jersey auction

 

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Air Products are teaming up to host Batting for People of All Abilities on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:05 p.m. Before the game, 5,000 fans 18 and older will receive a rally towel courtesy of Air Products.

The night will recognize people of all abilities. A pre-game basic sign language training will be available for fans. The game will be stopped to provide an opportunity for Aiden Gowarty, son of an Air Products employee, to go to home plate and hit a home run for people of all abilities. Plans for the evening also include the National Anthem signed as well as the 7th inning stretch. There will also be a “silent inning” eliminating any music or sound effects in the stadium.

During the game, the IronPigs will be wearing jerseys with “IronPigs” spelled out in American Sign Language and the evening will be capped off with an ASL jersey auction.

FredNats and Germanna Community College Partner to Benefit Fredericksburg Community

 

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – On Wednesday, February 26th the Fredericksburg Nationals and Germanna Community College announced more details of their partnership that will be implemented for the 2020 season.

Germanna and the FredNats are entering into a unique partnership that will highlight the history of baseball in Fredericksburg and the surrounding region in the new ballpark, while at the same time providing educational opportunities, scholarships, and exhibitions for use by the college and regional students. This program is also supported in conjunction with the FredNats’ partnerships with the Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) and Dovetail Cultural Resource Group (Dovetail), both of whom are providing substantial resources to bring the history of baseball in Fredericksburg to the new ballpark

The FredNats and Germanna announced the conception of the Jackie Robinson Writing Contest and Scholarship Fund that is open to all high school students in the Fredericksburg and surrounding counties. Five annual scholarships of $1,042 will be awarded to winners selected by a board made of members of the FredNats and Germanna’s choosing. High school juniors and seniors from the Germanna service area which includes Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, King George, Madison and Caroline are eligible to participate.

The entry information and form is available at https://www.germanna.edu/42essay/ and students should submit essays by April 15. The five winners of the $1,042 scholarships will be awarded at the FredNats home game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday, May 29.

As an interactive element of the ballpark, Germanna Community College, in conjunction with the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Dovetail Cultural Resource Group, are creating an 80-foot-long History Pavilion on the back of the “batter’s eye” of the stadium outfield concourse. This pavilion includes a wall that will highlight various historical events relating to baseball in Fredericksburg. The wall design and elements are being finalized and is expected to be installed in the stadium in late May.

Germanna, in partnership with the historical research completed by Dovetail and FAM, will produce several episodes of “History Minutes” of Fredericksburg to be displayed pregame in the ballpark. Episodes will highlight significant historical events in Fredericksburg related to baseball. The first history minute featuring the historical Walter Johnson coin toss across the Rappahannock from 1936 was released during the partnership announcement. Pulaski Yankees extend partnership with American Cancer Society

 

PULASKI, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees and the American Cancer Society are excited to announce they have extended their partnership into the Yankees’ 2020 season. The multi-faceted partnership began in 2019 and will include new events in the coming year.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the American Cancer Society’s local office for Southwest Virginia and the Roanoke Valley,” said Pulaski Yankees General Manager Betsy Haugh. “This partnership embodies the spirit of our Calfee Cares community relations plan to a T, and we’re fortunate to have such a great local group to work with that does so much for those affected by cancer in our community.”

The Yankees will be recognized as a Platinum Sponsor for Relay for Life of Wythe County, Relay for Life of Virginia’s Blue Ridge (Roanoke), Relay for Life of Montgomery County, and Relay for Life of the New River Valley. Calf-E, the Yankees mascot, and members of the Pulaski front office staff will attend the Wythe County (May 15) and Montgomery County (June 5).

As part of this continued partnership, the Yankees and American Cancer Society will host three events at Motor Mile Field at Calfee Park in 2020. On August 21, the Yankees will recognize breast cancer survivors with Pink in the Park presented by LewisGale Sarah Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare. Yankees players and coaches will wear special Pink in the Park warm up shirts that will be auctioned off to benefit the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society’s Southeast Region will also serve as the Community Organization of the Night presented by the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.

New for 2020, the American Cancer Society will host Finish the Fight Against Breast Cancer at Calfee Park on Saturday, October 17. This family-friendly fun walk will bring together friends and family to remember and celebrate loved ones affected by breast cancer. Participants are determined to raise awareness and money to support the American Cancer Society’s mission and save more lives than ever before from breast cancer.

Tickets are on sale now for the March 12 showcase opener between Westside and Richmond County and can be purchased at the respective schools or at the SRP Park gate on the day of the game. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and parking will be available in the Hotel Parking Deck under regular Riverside Village parking rates.

General admission tickets for the March 24 matchup between North Augusta and South Aiken will go on sale for $5 on March 13th at the respective schools. SRP Park gates open at 6:00 p.m. and parking will be available at that time in the Hotel Parking Deck for a $1 donation.

‘Dads To Hold “Miracle of Hickory” Weekend

Team Will Wear Specialty Miracle Jerseys

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads are excited to announce “Miracle of Hickory” weekend, presented by WHKY 1290AM & 102.3FM, which will take place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th.

The ‘Dads will wear specialty jerseys during both games as the team honors the emergency hospital constructed to treat the polio crisis of 1944 that would become known as the “Miracle of Hickory”. The jerseys are purple in honor of the March of Dimes, which was originally established during World War II to help fight the polio epidemic.

In June of 1944, the Catawba Valley was hit with one of the worst polio outbreaks in the country. At the time there were no established hospitals in the area to treat patients so building a facility became critical. In just 54 hours a hospital was constructed and began admitting patients, most of which were children who are most susceptible to the illness.

The community came together to construct buildings, paint, clear debris, dig water trenches and donate food. WHKY helped to spread the word of needed hospital supplies such as beds, washing machines, and office supplies.

Hundreds of doctors and nurses, who were known as the “Angels of Mercy”, were sent by the American Red Cross and other volunteer organizations to help treat the patients. Over the course of nine months, the Hickory Emergency Infantile Paralysis Hospital treated 454 children for polio. The March of Dimes deemed the hospital and its remarkably low death rate the “Miracle of Hickory” on its posters nationwide.

The hospital no longer exists but its site is about a mile from LP Frans Stadium. The Hickory Music Factory, the armory and Jaycee Park were constructed on the grounds of the former hospital. The City of Hickory recently renamed the Jaycee Park to Miracle of Hickory Park and began a renovation project on the property. A mural was also painted this winter on the side of a building on 1st Avenue NW in downtown Hickory to commemorate the Miracle of Hickory.

The Saturday date will feature a special firework show as the City of Hickory celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The Miracle of Hickory jerseys will be auctioned off via the Live Source app throughout the weekend. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Miracle of Hickory Foundation. Artifacts from the hospital will also be on the concourse on Saturday.
