The Blood Drive will be held in the Roost on the third floor of 406 Washington St. in downtown Toledo (use the doors right next to the Swamp Shop).

Reno Aces to Host Blood Drive with Vitalant

June 16, 2020

The Reno Aces and Reno 1868 FC are partnering with Vitalant to host a blood drive at Greater Nevada Field. Donations will also include testing for COVID-19 antibodies. Aces and 1868 fans, along with all members of the Northern Nevada community, can join the club in saving lives at Greater Nevada Field through Vitalant over the course of June 22-23 from 9am-2pm both days.

“We are proud to host a blood drive at Greater Nevada Field and do our part to serve the community during this challenging time for all of Northern Nevada,” said Aces general manager Emily Jaenson. “This two-day blood drive delivers double the good when you save lives and learn your COVID-19 antibody status, which is especially important given the critical shortage of blood as hospitals have increased surgeries and other procedures. Register online to reserve your time slot to donate at the ballpark.”

For those who have fallen ill with symptoms from COVID-19, but were unable to be tested, antibody tests can prove useful moving forward. Antibody tests are used to determine if someone had a past infection with SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Testing for antibodies does not indicate whether the antibodies neutralize the virus and protect from reinfection.

Beyond identifying whether a donor has antibodies or not, the donation can save lives in a time where blood donations can be scarce.

“Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, so these blood drives are a big part of our efforts to meet patient needs,” said Scott Edward, Donor Marketing and Communications Director for Vitalant. “The summer is a very challenging time to collect blood … we are thankful for the tremendous support from the Reno Aces to help boost our community’s blood supply together.”

Everyone who donates blood will also receive a 20 percent discount for the Aces and 1868 FC team shop.

Walk-ins are welcome, but donation appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, call (775) 785-6644 or go online to BloodHero.com to make appointments for Monday, June 22, or Tuesday, June 23. Additionally, COVID FAQs are available here, and antibody test FAQs can be found here.

We are thrilled to see community partners like these joining together with generous blood donors to protect vulnerable Central Texans during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Budweiser has been a part of American culture for generations and Brown Distributing wanted to do our part to help the people of Central Texas in a time when it’s needed most,” Brown Distributing Vice President Laurie Brown said. “Together with our many partners, we have worked as one team to extend our resources to support the surrounding areas that have been impacted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, like blood supply.”

Additional safety measures have been implemented to protect both donors and staff. Scheduling an appointment in advance is mandatory and no walk-ins will be allowed. Donors must wait to arrive until their specified appointment time and wear a protective face covering. Donors must also agree to have their temperature checked at registration and again during their standard health pre-screen. “Dell Diamond has been a local landmark in Central Texas since 2000 and we are honored to be able to use our resources to help our community, especially during these difficult times. With the additional safety measures that We Are Blood has in place, we encourage those who are willing and able to donate on May 14,” Round Rock Express General Manager Tim Jackson said. “We want to thank Brown Distributing for helping us organize this donation drive to benefit the lifesaving work that We Are Blood is doing throughout our community.”

Please note, We Are Blood is unable to test for COVID-19 or COVID-19 antibodies. Diagnostic tests are unavailable to We Are Blood as they are currently administered by health officials and physicians. Antibody tests are also not available to We Are Blood at this time.

Anyone who is feeling unwell or has experienced any symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath, or has cared for, lived with or otherwise had close contact with individuals diagnosed or suspected of having COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to attempt to donate. June 21, 2018

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Oklahoma Blood Institute team up to host the annual All-American Blood Drive from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The All-American Blood Drive is held each summer at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to help boost the supply of blood available in the state of Oklahoma in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day weekend, as holidays often put stress on the area’s blood reserve.

All healthy adults age 16* and older who donate blood during the drive will receive two tickets to an upcoming 2018 OKC Dodgers game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Their choice of games includes the Dodgers’ July 4 game against the Round Rock Express.

First-time donors will be entered into a raffle for a VIP experience with the OKC Dodgers, including four all-inclusive club tickets.

“The All-American Blood Drive plays a vital role in helping maintain our state’s blood supply during a busy time of year,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “We had a record turnout for last year’s blood drive and hope to match those numbers Saturday. As a thank you for their generosity, we want to treat everyone who donates to an OKC Dodgers game this season.”

Hot dogs will be served throughout the blood drive and free parking will be available for donors Saturday in the Joe Carter Lot, located just east of the ballpark at the corner of East Reno Avenue and Joe Carter Avenue. A golf cart will be available to shuttle donors back to the parking lot from the donation site along South Mickey Mantle Drive.

Oklahoma Blood Institute is the ninth-largest non-profit blood center in America and employs nearly 700 Oklahomans. OBI works with an estimated 1,000 volunteers and 2,600 blood drive coordinators. OBI donors provide blood utilized in more than 160 medical facilities in Oklahoma.

The Dodgers open a four-game home series Monday, June 25 against the Nashville Sounds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The series continues with 7:05 p.m. games Tuesday and Wednesday. The four-game set against Nashville then wraps up with a 7:05 p.m. game on a $2 Thursday June 28, featuring $2 Pepsi products, bottled water and select beer.

Tickets are available through the OKC Dodgers ticket office located on South Mickey Mantle Drive, by phone at (405) 218-2182, or by visiting okcdodgers.com.

Local Pro Sports Teams Combining Efforts on Disaster Relief and Recovery in Oregon and Around the Country

September 5, 2017

PORTLAND, Ore. (September 5, 2017) – With disaster response and relief efforts happening in their own communities and across the country, the Portland Trail Blazers (NBA), Portland Timbers (MLS), Portland Thorns FC (NWSL), Portland Winterhawks (Western Hockey League) and Hillsboro Hops (Northwest League) will band together to raise much-needed funds and blood donations to channel through the American Red Cross. This is the first joint-philanthropic initiative among the five local professional franchises focusing on a specific cause – to bring aid to victims of Oregon’s wildfires; Hurricane Harvey in Texas; and the potential impact of Hurricane Irma in Florida.

“The destruction we’ve seen from the Oregon wildfires and Hurricane Harvey is heartbreaking,” said Chris McGowan, President & CEO of the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter. “The journey to recovery will be a long one for all impacted areas. The professional sports community here in Portland is rallying our respective fan bases, employees and partners to contribute resources to assist in the effort where it’s needed most.”

“Our hearts go out to the families and individuals affected by the devastating fires in Oregon and the communities in Southeast Texas as they begin the process to rebuild and heal,” said Mike Golub, President of Business for the Timbers and Thorns FC. “By working together with our local partners, we are able to maximize our collective impact in support of the communities affected by the devastation caused by these disasters.”

The first steps taken will be to hold individual blood drives starting tomorrow, with each team hosting its own specially-designated day at the headquarters for the Portland American Red Cross, located at 3131 North Vancouver Avenue. The need for blood is constant and the American Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood and blood products to hospitals in the nation.

Fundraising efforts by each team will take place in the coming weeks and months at select home games and events to be announced soon. The Timbers, Thorns FC and Hops seasons are currently underway, with the Winterhawks and Trail Blazers beginning their 2017-18 seasons soon. Additional information will be posted on each team’s website and through their social media channels.

“We’re pleased to be involved with the team effort to raise funds and support the relief efforts locally and nationally,” said K.L. Wombacher, President and General Manager of the Hillsboro Hops. “Having two players on our roster that we care deeply about being from the Houston area, Hurricane Harvey hits home for us. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost so much over the last week. We hope to do everything we can to help them get their lives back.”

“Between the forest fires threatening the Northwest and the hurricanes causing catastrophic damage on the Gulf Coast, the resources of the American Red Cross are being stretched to the limits,” said Doug Piper, President of the Portland Winterhawks. “We are proud to stand with the Portland sports community and bring aid to those who so desperately need it.”

Red Cross blood donations can be conveniently scheduled online at www.redcrossblood.org for any of their blood drive locations throughout the region; or through the mobile app by texting BLOODAPP to 90999. Here is the schedule of upcoming blood drives hosted by each Portland-area pro sports team (**Note: Donors should use visitor parking for their vehicles, or dial (503) 528-5800 for parking guidance if visitor spaces are full):
