Ports Release 2017 Community Relations Report

STOCKTON, Calif.- Through the organization’s non-profit sector, the Anchor Fund, the Ports gave $32,464 in monetary donations and nearly $240,000 of in-kind donations to local non-profits within the San Joaquin community in 2017. Through various fundraisers held at Banner Island Ballpark, the Ports were able to raise almost $11,000 with the help of generous fans.

The revenue-leading event was the eleventh annual Pink Night, in which $5,493 benefited Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Additional fundraisers included Root Beer Float Day and Youth Baseball Camps presented by Amy L. Scriven, DDS., and Anchor Fund Weekend.

The Ports also had over 50,000 individuals participate in community programs such as Silver Sluggers presented by SCAN Health Plan, Amy L. Scriven, DDS. Kids’ Club, Baseball by the Books courtesy of Smack Pie Pizza, and the Summer Reading Program in partnership with San Joaquin County Libraries. Additionally, the Ports teamed up with Valley First Credit Union for this year’s Community Corner. Valley First donated 625 tickets to the Anchor Fund, and the Ports matched that donation for tickets to be distributed in the community.

Through these outreach programs, the Ports were able to provide people of all ages with donated or discounted tickets.

New to the 2017 season, the Ports partnered with Sutter Gould Medical Foundation to create a program called “Community Person of the Month,” in which select members of the local community were recognized in a monthly pre-game ceremony and a $500 donation was made to a non-profit organization of each recipient’s choice.

Finally, the Ports’ mascot, members of the front office, and Ports players were out in the community approximately 180 days out of the 2017 calendar year for events such as Little League Opening Ceremonies, school and library visits, grassroots events, and more.

“We are proud of the impact the Ports Community Department has made in the city of Stockton and beyond, in conjunction with the many people and organizations in our market,” said President Pat Filippone. “Over the 10 years since we’ve established the Anchor Fund, the Ports have remained committed to supporting the community and we look forward to growing upon this season’s success in the upcoming year.

The Stockton Ports’ Anchor Fund was established in early 2007 and has helped support many community projects, with a primary focus on youth centers and youth sports. The charitable fund reflects and reaffirms the Ports’ commitment to strengthening the community using baseball and entertainment as a backdrop, with 457 non-profit organizations receiving donations in 2017.

66ers Complete 2017 Community Benefit Snapshot

SAN BERNARDINO – The Inland Empire 66ers organization released their annual Community Benefit Report for the 2017 Fiscal Year. The report divulges how close to $300,000 was invested to the Inland Empire community along with several community oriented programs implemented by the 66ers Front Office staff.

Over 100 area organizations and non-profit organizations were able to raise $152,944 through 66ers fundraising programming and events plus 50 area organizations received monetary aid in the amount of $32,702. In-kind donations, such as game tickets, gift baskets and autographed memorabilia were proudly donated to over 200 local organizations to the tune of $113,946.

“We believe that to have the benefit of our community supporting us we must be involved back, creating a true partnership. This has never been more evident than during the 2017 season when our community made us number one in California League attendance for the first time in 27 years,” said Joe Hudson, General Manager. “The 66ers also believe that being part of the community outside of the ballpark is important and showcased it with 66ers Front Office members being active in over twenty local organizations.”

In addition to monetary donations given to numerous organizations, the 66ers Front Office spent several hundred hours volunteering their time in the community. Programs like “Breakfast and a Book” where 66ers staff members provide breakfast to local students who excelled over the month and read them a couple stories while they ate were extremely successful and will be expanded for the following year. During the off-season the Front Office selected one community organization a month to volunteer their time. A few of these organizations included Santa Claus, Inc., Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County, Central Little League diamond clean up and the 66ers took staff and players to North Park Elementary for a kickball game after the tragedy at their school.

“We’re more than grateful to give monetary donations, but sometimes it’s more impactful to offer a helping hand,” said Stephanie O’Quinn, Community Groups Manager. “It’s not only rewarding to the community but for us as an organization.”

In addition to the Breakfast and a Book program, other annual events include: the annual 66ers Golf Tournament which raised over $4,000 for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, Walk for the Animals hosted by the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley that netted over $14,000 for their event at San Manuel Stadium, and The Pink Ribbon Place jersey auction that raised over $3,400 from jersey sales and ticket fundraiser.

Storm Pair Up with Shoes That Fit

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – Lake Elsinore’s loveable green dog Thunder and fellow Storm staff members partnered with Shoes That Fit to bring lots of smiles and 40 new pairs of shoes to kids at Enchanted Hills Elementary School in Perris, Calif.

Shoes That Fit, the largest national organization of its kind, is committed to tackling one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by providing kids in need with new athletic shoes to attend school with new confidence and joy. The organization has donated almost two million pairs of shoes to kids in thousands of schools across the country.

“Creating a partnership with Shoes That Fit is perfect for Storm Baseball,” said Courtney Kessler, the team’s Director of Community Relations. “Two areas we focus on in the community are education and physical education through sport. Storm Baseball and the staff are excited to be able to help out students with the support of Shoes That Fit.

The Lake Elsinore Storm, a Minor League affiliate of the San Diego Padres, has been in the city for almost 25 seasons and have always been active on giving back to the fan base and the community the team has called home. The Storm will be celebrating the team’s 25th season in 2018.

2017 San Jose Giants Release 2017 Community Report

SAN JOSE, CA– The San Jose Giants released today their 2017 Community Report. The report is an overview of the organizations outreach and community involvement as well as a summary of games and events at historic Municipal Stadium. From a record number of mascot and player appearances, donations and fundraising endeavors to the celebration of the #DiamondSeason, the San Jose Giants connected with and served the South Bay in more ways than ever before.

San Jose Giants Lending Support for Fire Victims

SAN JOSE, CA– The San Jose Giants have announced their plan to support victims affected by the catastrophic fires in Northern California. Wildfires began on Sunday, October 8 and, as of Friday morning, have tragically resulted in 31 confirmed deaths, hundreds of missing person reports, over 3,500 destroyed structures, 20,000 evacuations and more than 220,000 scorched acres. The devastation is being forged by nearly two dozen sizeable fires, stretching resources thin. The firestorm is currently one of the deadliest and most damaging in California state history.

“We are deeply saddened by the many tragedies caused by the devastating wildfires and understand that this national disaster is far from over” said Daniel Orum, San Jose Giants President and CEO. “Our organization vows to provide and support relief efforts for the North Bay community during these incredibly difficult times.”

The San Jose Giants have designated Municipal Stadium as a drop-zone for supplies and will be taking a delivery truck north for those impacted by the fires on October 19. Specific items in need include: air mattresses, cots, pillows, blankets, phone chargers, dry and canned pet food, animal crates, food bowls, can openers, diapers, baby strollers, personal protection equipment (masks, latex gloves, etc.), duct tape, camp stoves, propane, water, non-perishable food items, baby food, personal hygiene products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, baby wipes, soap, etc.), toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, Band-Aids, antibacterial, duffle bags, children’s books, coloring books and coloring supplies. The San Jose Giants will contribute water, clothing, hats and blankets amongst other needed items. The organization’s front office staff is currently collaborating with local organizations in determining a drop-off location.

The San Francisco Giants also teamed up with other Bay Area sports teams to support the fire relief efforts. The teams have established a You Caring site which donors can visit by Clicking Here. Individuals can also contribute via text by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS SUPPORT HURRICANE HARVEY RELEIF AT LAST 2017 HOME GAME

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino organization stands behind team member, Kyle Survance Jr., a Houston, TX native, and University of Houston alumni to support Hurricane Harvey relief through both item and monetary donations.

The 66ers organization, including staff and players, have banned together to collect clothing and shoes to donate to the U of H in efforts to help victims in need after the Hurricane. Survance’s former baseball coach at the university, Tom Whitting, reached out to any baseball team, regardless of the level, willing to offer any help. After showing the message to 66ers Manager Chad Tracy, the team and organization unhesitatingly jumped on board.

“It was awesome seeing how quickly everyone responded to help out,” Survance expressed, “witnessing how quickly everything was coming together is just a reminder of how many people care about what’s going on down there and it’s a great feeling. I can’t thank the 66ers enough for their help.”

Alongside the efforts of donating clothing items, the 66ers organization will be making a monetary donation to the relief fund. The team will be holding a game worn jersey auction during their last home game, on Thursday, August 31st. All proceeds from the auction will be donated. In addition to the game worn jerseys by the team Thursday night, the 66ers will be auctioning off a framed number 27, Mike Trout autographed 66ers jersey.
“Minor League Baseball has been very active to help those in need in Houston,” Alex Groh, 66ers Assistant General Manager explains, “so we are just trying to do our part as well, especially since Houston is home to one of our players.”

San Jose Giants Team up with AUVI-Q® (Epinephrine Injection, USP) to Host a Peanut-Free Game This Season

SAN JOSE, CA– It’s hard to imagine a baseball game without peanuts, but in a new collaboration between Minor League Baseball® (MiLB™) and AUVI-Q® (epinephrine injection, USP), fans that suffer from peanut allergies can enjoy America’s national pastime with less concern.

On Tuesday, August 15, the San Jose Giants will be hosting a peanut-free game, sponsored by AUVI-Q. The game will feature no in-park sales of peanuts or products containing peanut ingredients. Throughout the game, in-park messaging and informational displays will be available for fans to learn more about AUVI-Q.

“With the help of AUVI-Q supporting our commitment to fans, we can create an environment where fans with peanut allergies can come to the ballpark and enjoy a game to its fullest,” said Mark Wilson, General Manager of the San Jose Giants. “We hope to see many new faces experiencing their first Minor League Baseball game because of our peanut-free night.”

San Jose Giants Unveil San Jose Police Department Hat

San Jose, CA– On Friday, July 21, the San Jose Giants will welcome to Municipal Stadium local police officers, fire fighters, EMT’s, and paramedics along with all the brave men and women who serve and protect our community for First Responder’s Night, presented by Alliance Credit Union. During the game, our team will don fire-department-inspired jerseys which fans can bid on with proceeds benefiting the San Jose Fire Department Los Bomberos. Additionally, all first responders who show their badge or ID at the Box Office will receive complimentary admission for themselves and their families.

The San Jose Giants are also proud to announce that they have collaborated with the San Jose Police Department in releasing an all-new, SJPD-themed, On-field New Era 59FIFTY cap for First Responder’s Night. The navy colored hat features the San Jose Police emblem and yellow ‘PD’ lettering with the team’s ‘SJ’ logo in white. Beginning July 21, fans can purchase the SJPD New Era fitted hat in the San Jose Giants Dugout Store. All first responders will receive a special 10% discount. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each hat will go to benefit the Police Amateur Athletics Foundation (PAAF).

THE INLAND EMPIRE 66ERS JOIN NORTH PARK ELEMENTARY FOR FIELD DAY

SAN BERNARDINO – The Inland Empire 66ers organization, including staff and players, joined North Park Elementary School on May 26, 2017, in an abundance of outdoor activities for their annual end of the year Field Day event.

After the elementary school endured a tragic event this April, the 66ers made it a priority to offer any support that they could to the school and its students. “It was important for us as an organization and a team to offer to help put some fun and excitement back in to the school day for these students,” explained Ryan English, Assistant General Manager.

After short discussion with the San Bernardino Unified School District, and the North Park Elementary staff, there was no hesitation that Field Day would serve as the best event for the 66ers organization to get involved with. Field Day, consisted of numerous outdoor activities for the students to participate in. Activities included dodgeball, tug-of-war, basketball, volleyball, tetherball, hockey, and many others outdoor games.

The 66ers staff and full team, including all players and coaching staff, split up and to participate in any, and all games with the students. “For us to go out there was great, I think we had just as much fun as they did,” 66ers infielder Jake Yacinich explained, “they had smiles on their faces, and for us to be able to do that is really good for us, as well as good for them.”

Not only did the staff and players get to enjoy their time with North Park Elementary, but the 66ers beloved mascots Bernie and Slick attended, as well as the mascots from the neighboring teams, The Lake Elsinore Storm and The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. “It was a great for us to come together as a minor league baseball community for these kids, the mascots were the stars of the show,” said 66ers general manager Joe Hudson.

Jim Abbott To Throw Out First Pitch On DisAbilities Awareness Night

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – April 26th, 2017 – For the Inland Empire 66ers (Class-A Affiliate Los Angeles Angels)          6th Annual DisAbilities Awareness Night, they will have former Angels pitcher Jim Abbott throw out the ceremonial first pitch. On this night, the 66ers will also be giving away a limited supply of bobbleheads of Abbott’s likeness.

Jim Abbott was born September 19, 1967, in Flint, Michigan without a right hand. He was an All-America hurler at the University of Michigan; won the Sullivan Award for the Nation’s Best Amateur Athlete in 1987; was a pitcher for the Gold Medal Olympic Team in 1988; drafted by the California Angels in the 1st Round of the 1988 MLB Amateur Draft; made his professional debut on April 8th, 1989; and threw a 4-0 no-hitter for the New York Yankees versus Cleveland (September 4, 1993). Jim played for 10 seasons on 4 different teams and ended his big league playing career in 1999.

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants unveiled at FanFest, the 2017 Military Trading Card Set, presented by Operation: Care and Comfort. This incredible 40 card set is complete with honorees from each military branch. Furthermore, the pack includes current personnel and veterans who have served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan and Iraq. The set is filled with men and women from our town and from across the globe who have honorably defended the principles on which the United States is founded upon. 2017 San Jose Giants Announce 2017 Summer Camp Sessions

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants have announced two sessions for their Eleventh Annual Summer Camps at Municipal Stadium. The organization will offer one camp in June and one in July, providing families with the flexibility they need to get their kids involved. Session 1 will take place June 12-15 and Session 2 will span from July 17-20. Both camp sessions run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and finish with a 7:00 PM San Jose Giants home game on the last day of each camp. Summer Camps emphasize fun and focus on developing baseball skills for boys and girls ages 7 through 14.

The San Jose Giants are committed to providing each camper with a truly exceptional experience. During each Session campers will work on hitting, catching, fielding, base running and throwing mechanics while receiving personal interaction and focused attention as they hone their skills on the very same field that our Giants do.

“As the Diamond Season quickly approaches, I am eager to get on the field and help develop young athletes and instill valuable lessons that carry over into all aspects of life,” said Summer Camps Director and Junior Account Executive Jimmy Quintanilla. “With two action-packed camp sessions built for all levels of skill and experience and some special pricing opportunities, Summer Camps are certain to mirror our San Jose Giants mission of providing fun, affordable, family entertainment.”

New this year, six campers from our town will be selected to take part in camp free of charge, on behalf of Bay Area Self Storage. Starting now through May 5, Summer Camp registration is marked down to only $295, a $20 savings. After the May 5 deadline, registration will return to the standard price of $315. Included in the registration price, each camper will receive tickets for their entire family to a designated San Jose Giants game, a Summer Camp T-Shirt, lunch for each day of camp, and over twenty hours of baseball instruction! Quakes partner with Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital for Quakes25

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are celebrating 25 seasons in 2017 and long-time partner Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital will be title sponsor of the team’s “Quakes25 Celebration”.

The festivities begin Thursday, April 13th at LoanMart Field with Opening Night presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, when the Quakes will debut teal and pinstripe jerseys resembling the Quakes uniforms in the inaugural 1993 season. The team will then wear the specialty uniforms and commemorative teal and black on-field caps as part of a once-a-month Saturday series, resulting in a jersey auction benefiting the Loma Linda University Children Hospital’s Vision 2020 Campaign.

“We’re excited to support our community with the Quakes for what will be a spectacular 25th Season,” said Jillian Payne, Assistant Vice President of Philanthropy for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. “We’re truly grateful for the Quakes’ generosity and know that together, we can build hope for our community.”

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is located just 21 miles from LoanMart Field and is the only dedicated Children’s Hospital in the Inland Empire. Among its initiatives, Vision 2020 will provide funding for a new Children’s Hospital tower by the year 2020.

“The Quakes are proud to partner our organization, passionate fans and wonderful support with Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and the impact they have in our community,” Quakes Vice President/General Manager Grant Riddle said. “We are honored to have the fans we do, a history of success and receive such outstanding support from the City of the Rancho Cucamonga. The “Quakes25 Celebration” Saturdays presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital are April 15th, May 20th, June 17th, July 15th, August 26th and September 2nd and will include appearances from former Quakes players, pre-game recognition of 25-year season ticket holders, partners and other special guests.

In addition to the Saturday festivities and firework shows, the “Quakes25 Celebration” theme will anchor the 2017 promotional schedule and marketing efforts. The first 1,500 fans through the gates on April 15th will take home a retro replica jersey, courtesy of LoanMart. Each of the five Quakes bobblehead giveaways will include a teal base to recognize the 25th season and the U.S. Bank hat giveaway on July 1st will utilize the teal pinstripes and the original Quakes logo from 1993.

The teal and black commemorative hat from New Era, complete with a “Quakes25” patch and embroidered bill, will be available in the Quakes Team Store at LoanMart Field and online, along with other “Quakes25” merchandise.

San Jose Giants Helping Local Flood Victims

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants in conjunction with the city of San Jose and Silicon Valley Community Foundation are offering a way for the community to aid in providing relief for victims impacted by the recent flooding in San Jose. Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes because of unprecedented rainfall this month and subsequent severe flooding. Over 400 people have been rescued via boat as water levels reached several feet deep. Complete assessment of damage has yet to be determined, however it is certain that many families will need aid and relief in the weeks and months ahead.

The San Jose Giants are calling for community support and generous contributions for the recent flood victims. Donations can be made to the through Silicon Valley Community Foundation: San Jose Flood Relief Fund. These donations will go towards administering relief for families most in need. Families in the Franklin McKinley School District have been hit especially hard. Gift cards for clothing and food to the Franklin McKinley School District can be sent or delivered to 645 Wool Creek Drive, San Jose CA, 95112, c/o Student Wellness and Support Services Office. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to assist these hurting families.

“As a proud member of the San Jose community, we deeply empathize with the flood victims and their families,” said Juliana Paoli, Senior VP of Communications and Chief Marketing Officer. “We applaud our friends at Silicon Valley Community Foundation and are determined to do all we can to provide relief for those in need.”

The San Jose Giants fan-favorite mascot, Gigante, made a community appearance at the emergency shelter at James Lick High School for the victims of the flooding. The Giants also donated shirts to families in need of fresh clothing at the shelter. In addition, at the San Jose Giants home opener on Thursday, April 13, the organization will be offering fans the opportunity to donate or to “round-up” on their purchases at the ballpark, with the remaining balance to be donated to Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

The City of San Jose, led by District Seven Councilmember Tam Ngyuen, have set up a command post at the corner of Senter Road and Phelan Avenue, in the parking lot of Marisco’s restaurant. Volunteers are encouraged to check in at the location tomorrow, February 23, to help with the initial cleanup of the area. Clean up begins at 9:00 AM.

Additionally, our partner, Happy Hollow Park and Zoo, is requesting support for the animals and keepers who were impacted by the flood. Happy Hollow anticipates a number of expenses resulting from the flood. Donations can be made through the Happy Hollow Park and Zoo website.

2017 Operation Care and Comfort: Salute to the Military Trading Card Set

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants have announced and opened nominations for their fourth Military Trading Card Set, presented by Operation: Care and Comfort. The trading card set will again be made up entirely from fan nominations of current or former members of the military. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 3. All submissions must be accompanied by a photo of the nominee, in military uniform, sent to info@sjgiants.com. The sets will be given to the first 1,000 fans in attendance at the San Jose Giants Sixth Annual Salute to the Military Night on Saturday, April 15.

Each of the previous sets have included honorees from every branch of the military as well as a number of notable honorees: courageous war hero and former NFL safety Pat Tillman, Hall of Famer and former San Francisco Giant, the “Say Hey Kid” Willie Mays as well as the founder of the Lone Survivor Foundation Marcus Luttrell. Click here to submit your nomination for the 2017 Military Trading Card Set.
