Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio Coming to Day Air Ballpark

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Dragons are excited to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio to Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. Home games from Friday, July 22 to Sunday, August 14 will be dedicated to supporting this program.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio is a program that is of no cost to the families. When a child is enrolled in the program, they receive a book in the mail each month until their fifth birthday. This program is made possible with financial support from the Ohio General Assembly and affiliates across the state as well as Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine. Montgomery County currently has an enrollment rate of over 46% of children of five years and younger.

From Friday, July 22, through Sunday, August 14, the Dragons will include books with first-game certificates for first time Dragons fans under the age of five while supplies last, as well as bookmarks that allow parents or guardians to directly sign their children up for the program. On Sunday, August 14, the Dragons will host Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio Day with a sign-up booth, first pitch, graduation ceremony and more to highlight the program.

Bear Necessities: HVR holding inaugural Teddy Bear Toss on 7/27

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (July 22, 2022) –The Hudson Valley Renegades will be hosting a Teddy Bear Toss at Dutchess Stadium on Wednesday, July 27 immediately following that night’s game against the Brooklyn Cyclones. The event is part of the We Care Wednesday program, presented by Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).

The Renegades encourage all fans to bring new teddy bears and stuffed animals to The Dutch for the game, but there will also be a limited number of teddy bears/plush dolls available for sale at the ballpark. Fans can purchase one doll for $3, or five dolls for $10. Proceeds from the sale will benefit WMCHealth’s Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital. Fans purchasing teddy bears at the game will be given ticket vouchers for a future Renegades game.

The Bears will be collected by Renegades staff and donated to Cuddles from Cassidy, a Larchmont, New York-based non-profit organization whose mission is to provide comfort and joy to children battling life-threatening illnesses by providing cuddles (care packages with stuffed animals, toys, and tokes of love) to put smiles on their faces.

Additionally, the Renegades will be hosting a toy drive for Toys for Tots prior to their Christmas in July game on Tuesday, July 26. Toys will be collected at both the Season Ticket Member and Main Gates at Dutchess Stadium. Fans who bring a toy for donation will receive a ticket voucher for a future Renegades game.

WooSox Hold First Youth Clinic with Player and Coach Instruction

First In-Person Youth Clinic since 2019

The Worcester Red Sox hosted their second Youth Clinic on Saturday, July 9, 2022. This clinic was the first one to be held in Worcester, and the first one to be held by the club since 2019. At the clinic, over 100 kids of various ages got the chance to play ball and hear words of wisdom from WooSox players, and coaches. receive free tips and tricks from WooSox players and coaches on four major aspects of baseball: pop flies, ground balls, hitting, and pitching.

Hitting was manned by hitting coach Rich Gedman and assistant hitting coach Michael Montville. Here, kids practiced their hitting skills through mock at-bats where they got advice from the duo. Montville told one kid, “Try to hit me square in the mouth.” Fortunately, the kid did not hit Montville in the mouth, but he had more powerful hits after this advice. Montville even made a note of that by saying, “See what happens when you try to hit me.”

Youngsters learned pitching tips from pitching coach Paul Abbott who spoke to them about the mechanics needed to throw “Powerfully, properly [and] so we can throw repetitively and not get hurt.” He told kids that the best way to pitch was by “Thinking of your back side as the power and your front side as the steering wheel.” Abbott finished the station by having participants practice mock throws to him and catcher Deivy Grullón.

At ground ball station, participants learned the basics of good fielding from manager Chad Tracy and bench coach Jose Flores. The duo made it clear that they were impressed by the kids’ ability to take their advice and quickly apply it to their fielding. With the fast improvement in their game, Flores commented “You guys make great throws and are very great listeners…[it’s] very, very impressive.”

The pop flies station was run by infielder Ryan Fitzgerald and outfielder Devlin Granberg. There, kids were thrown balls by the duo that they had to field and throw back to them accurately. In addition to helpful tips and drills, both players were energetic and engaging with the kids. Many of the youngsters were unfortunately Yankees fans or named a Yankee as their favorite player, to which Granberg joked, “Sorry if you’re a Yankees fan, you can’t participate.” Of course, all these kids got to catch pop flies from both these players, and got to see Fitzgerald’s baseball magic trick, picking a ball off the ground and making it disappear, which Granberg confessed confused him when he was college teammates with Fitzgerald at Creighton University.

After the stations, Fitzgerald, Granberg, and Grullón stayed until every child had all the signatures they desired, from posters to playing cards even to shirts.

At the end of the day, all participants walked away with tips to help them improve their baseball skills. Tracy even remarked, “If you keep practicing these tricks from today, you can be playing at Polar Park] in 15 years.”

Drive, City of Greenville Parks & Rec to Host Local MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition

The Greenville Drive and City of Greenville Parks & Rec are excited to partner together and host a local competition of Pitch, Hit & Run, the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. The event will take place at Fluor Field on Wednesday, July 20th from 6 PM to 8 PM.

While not required, pre-registration is encouraged, and can be done so by clicking HERE. Those wishing to participate should enter Fluor Field through the Main Street Gate. Proof of age and grade is required upon check-in.

The MLB Pitch, Hit & Run program is designed to provide youth with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. Boys and girls have a chance to advance to the Major League Team Championships and to the MLB World Series. It is also recommended that participants bring their own bat and helmet.

In the Pitch, Hit & Run program, there are both a baseball and softball division. Participants are only permitted to participate in the sport/ division in which they have played in their local league/travel play or by age. Participants may compete in only ONE division per competition year. A participant is not able to switch divisions once they have begun a competition. If athletes are found participating in a division in which they do not qualify, they will be removed from all further competitions and disqualified.

The divisions and age groups for competition are the following:

  • Baseball Division – 7-8 Age Division; 9-10 Age Division; 11-12 Age Division; 13-14 Age Division

The Charleston RiverDogs and Breeze Airways have announced plans for Random Acts of Nice-Ness Week. From July 6-9, RiverDogs players and staff, as well as Breeze Airways team members, will be out in the community volunteering at various locations and working to spread niceness around the Holy City. The week will culminate at the RiverDogs 6:05 p.m. contest against the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday, July 9.

“As an organization, we are always looking for opportunities to support our community in the same way that they support us each season. The chance to have our players and staff visit several non-profits and spread niceness in the community over the next several days is something we are extremely excited about,” said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “Our partnership with Breeze Airways has been outstanding and we are happy to join with them over the next several days to do some good for the city of Charleston”.

The week commenced at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, July. The group played board games, air hockey and did arts and crafts with patients at the hospital.

On Thursday, July 7, the RiverDogs and Breeze Airways will continue the fun at Fisher House Charleston. The Fisher House provides temporary lodging for family members of Veterans who are receiving care at the Ralph A. Johnson VA Medical Center. From 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., players and staff members will host a backyard barbecue. The RiverDogs Food Truck will provide lunch while everyone stays entertained with traditional yard games including giant jenga and cornhole.

The niceness will continue at The Joe on Friday, July 8 when kids and staff members from Windwood Farms are welcomed to the ballpark for a Field Day in the outfield from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Players and coaches will join the children for games including a pizza box race, uniform dress-up relay and kickball. A picnic will be held for all attendees at Murray’s Mezzanine and they will receive tickets to that night’s game.

Early on Saturday, July 9 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., the RiverDogs and Breeze Airways will be in RiverFront Park handing out Breeze Points, tickets to Saturday night’s game, merchandise and other fun gifts.

Everything will shift to The Joe during Saturday’s game, as fans in attendance will be on the receiving end of the niceness. Breeze team members will be making their way around the ballpark doing nice things for various fans, like buying them a hot dog or a beverage. In addition, Breeze will make a donation to each of the three non-profit organizations that were part of the volunteer events earlier in the week and give away one roundtrip flight to a lucky fan during each inning of the game. Following the contest, every fan in the ballpark will receive a bottle of bubbles and will send them airborne in unison along with Breeze.

Fireflies to Host Skills Camp at Segra Park in August

COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia Fireflies today announced that the team will host a three-day Summer Skills Camp at Segra Park August 4-6 from 9 am-12 pm each day. The camp will be run by Fireflies players and coaches, so children can receive the top instruction available in the Midlands for the camp and is open to register for children age 6-14.

The camp will cost $100, but members of the Fireflies Kids Club will be able to register for $80. The cost includes nine hours of close instruction from Fireflies coaches and players, a lunch provided each of the three days of the camp and a ticket for each participant for the August 6 game vs the Charleston RiverDogs at Segra Park, which will have a fireworks show following the game. Participants will also receive a form to purchase more tickets if they would like to.

Registration for the camp will begin at 8:30 am each day and the instruction will begin promptly at 9 am and go until noon when lunch will be served. No cleats are allowed and camp participants must bring their own bat, helmet and glove to the camp each day.

Fox Valley High School Senior All-Star Games at Neuroscience Group Field on July 10

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The best high school seniors in the area will take part in two Fox Valley All-Star Games at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday, July 10 presented by TDS. An All-Day, General Admission pass will be available for $6. Game one starts at noon with the second game to follow the conclusion of game one by about thirty minutes.

The afternoon will open with Team Cardinal against Team Silver at noon. Game two features Team White against Team Black. Rosters of the teams are available by clicking on the team name.

The parking lot opens at 10:30am with free parking. The Neuroscience Group Field gates open at 11:00am. Concessions will available during the games.

“We’re excited to host these games and provide an opportunity for many of the top local high school talent to play the final game of their high school careers,” said Aaron Hahn, vice president of the Timber Rattlers.

Passes may be purchased in advance through this link to the Timber Rattlers website or at the Neuroscience Group Field Box Office during regular business hours 9:00am to 5:00pm today through Friday. Passes will also be available on Sunday morning before the game.

Schools out for summer and the fun at the ballpark has just begun. So the Bisons want to reward all the hard-working kids in WNY and Southern Ontario with a FREE TICKET to their next game at Sahlen Field.

Bisons Report Card Days are back, Saturday, July 9 (6:05pm) and Sunday, July 10 (1:05pm) at Sahlen Field, presented by NY’s 529 College Savings Program. For these two games, all kids need to do is bring/show their K-12 report card to the Sahlen Field Box Office and they can receive a FREE TICKET to the game with the purchase of an adult ticket (hard copy and digital report cards accepted). The Box Office opens at 12pm on Saturday for the night game against the Syracuse Mets and 10am for Sunday’s afternoon matinee game. No more teachers… no more books! Only a fun day or night at the ballpark.

Saturday’s game is a Labatt-urday night (something for mom and dad =)), with $4 Labatt Blue and Blue Light specials from 5-7pm and a chance for Mom/Dad to win Beer for a Year during the game. Sunday is a Kids Club Sunday where all kids get to head down to the field postgame to Run the Bases, presented by Platter’s Chocolates!
