Gwinnett Braves Award June Grant to J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA

“Summer Safety” themed grant will help fund swimming lessons throughout the community

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves have awarded their $1,000 grant for the month of June to J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA. The “Summer Safety” themed grant is aimed at assisting organizations that promote safety programs for children.

The J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA has been serving the Gwinnett community since 1974. The program offers wellness facilities for adults and families, while also assisting the community with non-member programs. J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA continues to empower and transform lives around the community, serving over 12,000 Gwinnett residents through these programs.

YMCA-logo-green&blueThe funds from the grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves will help J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA in its continued mission to teach members of the community how to swim. Since 1986, the J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA has been teaching youth and adults to swim and instructing their participants with life-saving techniques. The classes are intended for all ages, even young children as the YMCA offers a “SPLASH” program for ages 6 through 10. The program introduces children to the fundamentals of swimming and basic water safety.

“For over 15 years, the J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA has been teaching youth and adults the ability to swim and importance of water safety,” said Kimberly Nelson, Executive Director of J.M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA. “The education and instruction of water safety is crucial for all communities including Gwinnett County. Because of the generosity of the Gwinnett Braves Foundation, the YMCA is able to assist families that could not afford to participate in swim lessons and empower them with skills to be safer. As a community, we need to be especially cautious during the summer months when water incidents increase compared to the rest of the year. Together, the Y and Gwinnett Braves are making an impact and helping to save lives.”

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Game Raises $30,000 Locally

BURLINGTON, VT – The Vermont Lake Monsters are pleased to announce that $30,000 has been raised for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, as part of the June 29th event at Centennial Field. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, made up of Veterans and Active-Duty Soldiers and Marines who have lost a limb(s) in post 9/11 combat, tour nationally to raise awareness of the sacrifices of these brave soldiers, while giving communities across our great country an opportunity to show their support of our true heroes.

“It was an honor to assist in the creation of the Burlington, VT event.”, says Vermont Lake Monsters Vice President Kyle Bostwick. “The outpouring of support in both preparation and participation of this event, that showcases the sacrifices that these soldiers have made should make us all be proud to be a part of our community.”

Monies for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team were raised through a two day event that was highlighted by an exhibition softball game featuring former Major League Pitchers Bill “Spaceman” Lee and Len Whitehouse, Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling, Silver Screen Actor and Vermont resident Luis Guzman, actor, producer, and writer Rusty “The Logger” Dewees, country music star Jamie Lee Thurston, and Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger.

In addition substantial revenues for the event were raised through generous donations by The Pizzagalli Foundation, Jolley Associates, Farrell Distributing, Yankee Medical, Select Design, Lake Champlain Cruises, and REM Development.

A ceremonial check presentation will occur today with WWAST manager David Van Sleet in attendance, July 29th, prior to the Vermont Lake Monsters home game against the Lowell Spinners at Centennial Field at 7:05PM.

AT&T Donates to Restore the Shore Efforts

LAKEWOOD, NJ – AT&T presented BlueClaws Charities with a check for $10,000 before their game on Friday, July 12th for their Restore The Shore relief efforts.

The BlueClaws and AT&T partnered this year on a Score for the Shore program through which AT&T made a $30 donation to BlueClaws Charities Sandy relief efforts every time the BlueClaws scored a run in the first half of the season.

While the BlueClaws scored 267 runs in the first half for a total of $8,010, AT&T Sales Director Bob Woodier presented BlueClaws General Manager Brandon Marano and Community Relations Director Jim DeAngelis with a check for $10,000.

“AT&T is proud to support BlueClaws Charities relief for victims of Sandy in New Jersey,” said Tom DeVito, Vice President and General Manager, AT&T New Jersey/New York. “So many of our employees, family, and friends are still struggling from the after-effects of the super storm and we urge the public to pitch in and do what they can as those communities re-build their homes and businesses.”

The BlueClaws thank AT&T for their support of BlueClaws Charities Restore The Shore relief efforts.

This ceremony was originally scheduled for the South Atlantic League All-Star Game but was re-scheduled after a 2 hour and 46 minute rain delay.

Legends host Breast Cancer Awareness dinner

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends will hold their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Dinner Friday, July 12 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Kentucky Ale Taproom at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The event is sponsored by LBX and is open to the public.

The program will include introduction of makeover winners by Janie Olmstead of Images Model and Talent Agency and a panel from the Markey Cancer Center.

“Our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night promises to be special, as it is every year,” said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. “Having lost my own mother to breast cancer, this event carries extra meaning for me, but I know I am far from alone. It’s a great opportunity to spend some time with so many brave survivors, take in a Legends game, and raise a lot of money all at the same time.”

The dinner is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark. The Legends will play the Delmarva Shorebirds at 7:05 p.m. Friday, and Legends players will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned after the game, with proceeds going to the Markey Cancer Center, Kentucky Pink Connection and Susan G. Komen.

Fisher Cats, Fisher Cats Foundation Make Law Enforcement Donation

New-Hampshire-Fisher-Cats-logo-2013The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Fisher Cats Foundation announced a donation of $9,166.16 to benefit law enforcement agencies in New Hampshire today. The donation was generated through the team’s June 21 Law Enforcement Night, an annual event that began in 2007 to recognize the hard work and sacrifice of law enforcement officers in our community. This year’s event also recognized the Officer Michael Briggs Community Hero, a distinction that’s been awarded at the Fisher Cats Law Enforcement Night since Manchester officer Michael Briggs was killed in the line of duty in the fall of 2006.

Fisher-Cats-Foundation-logo-2013“This is one of the most meaningful and rewarding nights for our staff and fans at the ballpark each season,” said Rick Brenner, Fisher Cats president. “Hosting this event and raising this money is a small way we can show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice each day.”

The donation represents fifty percent of ticket sales since Law Enforcement Night was announced on May 1, as well as the silent auction of commemorative jerseys worn by the team during the game. Combined with additional fundraising elements, including a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, and the auction of an autographed photo of Boston Bruins legend Cam Neely, money will be donated to the families affected by the Manchester and Greenland incidents this spring. The proceeds of the jersey auction, as they have since the initial Law Enforcement Night, will benefit the Manchester Police Athletic League.

Prior to the game, Governor John Lynch was awarded the Officer Michael Briggs Community Hero Award from Manchester police captain Richard Reilly. The governor was recognized for his staunch support of New Hampshire’s law enforcement since he took office in 2005. In his final term in office, Governor Lynch was also presented with a lifetime membership as a good and honorable citizen to the New Hampshire Police Association by Sergeant David Young of the Lebanon Police Department.

Pre-game ceremonies were attended by representatives of the Manchester and Seacoast law enforcement agencies. Manchester officer Dan Doherty, who was shot and injured in the line of duty in March, threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Family members and friends stood in for the officers who were injured in the Greenland incident in April that resulted in the death of Greenland Chief of Police Michael Maloney.

The Fisher Cats began hosting Law Enforcement Night in 2007 after the death of Officer Briggs the previous fall. Officer Briggs’ badge number, 83, is retired on the right field wall at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium as a commemoration of his ultimate sacrifice to keep his community a safe place to live.

San Jose Giants, KRTY and Sutter Home Partner for Breast Cancer Awareness Night

SAN JOSE, CA- Come out and join the San Jose Giants, Team KRTY and Sutter Home for Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Night at Municipal Stadium. The San Jose Giants, KRTY and Sutter Home are teaming up for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to raise funds and bring Breast Cancer Awareness to Municipal Stadium on Friday, June 28 at 7:00 PM against the Stockton Ports.

“The San Jose Giants are honored to once again be part of such a great and important cause,” said Juliana Paoli, Chief Marketing Officer of the San Jose Giants. “Partnering with KRTY and Sutter Homes offers our organization a wonderful opportunity to raise money and bring awareness to a disease that has affected countless number of lives.”

San Jose Giants, Team KRTY and Sutter Home will partner together to raise money and awareness for the ongoing struggle to find a cure for breast cancer. The first 1,500 fans to the game will receive Sutter Home for Hope Buttons. In addition, the San Jose Giants will be donating a portion of the Sutter Home wine sales on June 28 to Team KRTY for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Proceeds will be used to provide people with breast cancer screening and treatment, as well as support leading-edge research teams across the country.

Fans that wear their Pink gear to the Friday night game will receive two FREE future game tickets. Gates open at 6:00 PM and fans can visit the Team KRTY booth on the third base side at anytime throughout the game for more information and an opportunity to visit with Indiana Al. In addition, the Giants will also be hosting a silent auction of limited edition game-worn players and coaches pink jerseys. The highest bidder will be able to go on the field following the game and receive their new autographed jersey right off the respective San Jose Giant’s back.

Team KRTY is selling special fundraising tickets for the game at krty.com or by visiting their offices at 750 Story Road, San Jose, CA 95122. All proceeds of the Team KRTY tickets will go to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

The First Half North Division Champion San Jose Giants return to Municipal Stadium for the start of the second half as they host the Modesto Nuts and Stockton Ports in a seven game homestand starting Monday, June 24. Wednesday, June 26 will be the first A Wild West Afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Fans who wear their country gear to the 12:35 PM game will receive two free future game tickets. Then, on Saturday, June 29 the sky will light up with Postgame Fireworks courtesy of IBEW 332. Captains Will Now Donate 100% of All Ticket Proceeds From June 30 Game to the Cleveland Courage Fund

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will donate 100% of ticket proceeds to The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation for tickets purchased using the on-line promo code COURAGE for the Sunday, June 30 game. The Captains had originally planned to donate the proceeds of their May 28 game and then their June 10 game but both games were postponed due to inclement weather.

Sunday is also a Family Fun Sunday, presented by the Lake County YMCA, featuring a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities, the Kids’ Zone area and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. All kids in attendance will receive a Captains activities book and crayons, presented by the YMCA and Lake County Job and Family Services.

The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation was established by Cleveland council members Brian Cummins, Matt Zone, and Dona Brady after the discovery of three local women who were held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade. The Fund, so named because of the courage shown by these remarkable women, will directly benefit Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight, and Amanda Berry and her daughter. 100% of the monies raised by the Fund will benefit the survivors.

Fort Wayne, IN – The Fort Wayne TinCaps are set to host Military Appreciation Night at Parkview Field on Wednesday, June 12, at 7:05 when the TinCaps take on the Lake County Captains.

Thanks to sponsorships and donations, the TinCaps are giving away free tickets for Military Appreciation Night to military members, the families of military members, and veterans. These tickets can be requested prior to Wednesday’s game through TinCapsMilitary.com.

Also as part of Military Appreciation Night, the TinCaps will wear special red, white, and blue jerseys, which will later be auctioned off for fans on July 5. Proceeds from the red, white, and blue jersey auction will go toward Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. In addition, organizations from around the Fort Wayne community that offer services for military members and their families, as well as veterans, will be present during Wednesday’s game in Parkview Field’s Lincoln Financial Event Center.

Sharon Eichman of the Fort Wayne Area Blue Star Mothers (the TinCaps’ community organization of the game) will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Military Appreciation Night, while Fort Wayne City Council President Tom Didier is scheduled to sing God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch.

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws are pleased to be one of 51 Minor League Baseball clubs across the country participating in MiLB Charities “15 for 15” initiative to raise money for those affected by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma.

15% of every order received via the Claws Cove online team store over a 15-day period ending June 17th will be donated to Minor League Baseball Charities as part of a donation that entity will make to the Oklahoma City Red Cross.

“After Superstorm Sandy came through the Jersey Shore, we received ample support from our fellow Minor League Baseball teams from all across the country,” said BlueClaws General Manager Brandon Marano. “We are honored to help through this MiLB fundraiser.”

The donation occurs on online orders only and applies to any item in the BlueClaws official online team store, accessible at http://blueclaws.milbstore.com.

‘Dads Participate in “15 for 15” Initiative

Crawdads and MiLB look to help tornado victims

HICKORY, NC – The Hickory Crawdads, South Atlantic League affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have partnered with Minor League Baseball Charities and 51 other clubs in a “15 for 15” initiative to raise funds to help out those communities that were recently affected by the tornado devastation near Oklahoma City.

Beginning Monday, and running for the next 15 days through June 17, the ‘Dads and other participating clubs have agreed to donate 15% of every order received through their online stores to MiLB Charities to use toward the relief efforts.

“The Crawdads are proud to be a part of this baseball-wide team effort to help raise funds for those affected by the devastating tornados in Oklahoma,” said Crawdads Director of Ticket Operations and Merchandising Douglas Locascio. “It’s a great way for our fans to contribute to the cause, while also getting some cool gear and showing their Crawdads pride!”

Pelicans begin “Hops for Hospice”

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans created a hops garden in the ballpark in the spring of 2012 that has grown into something much bigger than the corner of the Picnic Garden in which it was planted. The hops garden has inspired the creation of an area of the ballpark that features craft beers now known as Hops Heaven, a partnership with New South Brewery to create a signature beer made from hops grown at TicketReturn.Com Field, and a $2 for Tuesday Craft Beer Night for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Local brewery, New South Brewing Company, has taken the hops variety planted at the ballpark and crafted a special beer for fans at TicketReturn.Com Field. Starting on June 11 the beer will be sold at Pelicans games and for every keg that is sold, the team will donate $10 to a local hospice. “It is very unique for a minor league baseball team to brew its own beer like we are this season,” Pelicans Vice President and General Manager Andy Milovich said. “As it is our goal to make a splash in the community this season, we are thrilled to be able to use this neat program to give back to Horry County while creating a truly unique experience for the craft beer lovers that visit TicketReturn.Com Field.”

The Pelicans homemade beer is still without a name, but fans will have an opportunity to change that in the coming days. Until next Wednesday, fans can submit names for the beer on the Pelicans Facebook page, the South Brewery Facebook page and the Myrtle Beach Beers Lovers Facebook page. The beer is a White Pale Ale with lots of citrus notes and perfect for summer enjoyment. The naming contest winner will receive the first beer out of the tap on June 11th, complimentary tickets to the beer tapping party, as well as a Ceremonial First Pitch.

“We’re excited about the new venture with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans,” said New South Founder Dave Epstein. “Beer and baseball go together so great. The beer we’re making is an American White Ale meets an American Pale Ale. We took the American White Ale that we produce year-round and infused it with American citrus hops to accentuate the White Ale that is spiced with coriander and orange peel. Adding the citrus hops really plays off of that citrus note to create a light and flavorful taste and aroma. It goes down real easy, but has a unique flavor unlike any other light beer out there.”

Starting this Tuesday, June 4, craft beers will sell for $2 at all Tuesday games. When the Pelicans new beer becomes available, it will also sell for $2 on Tuesday. In addition to New South Brewery beers, the $2 for Tuesday will feature Sam Adams and Foothills Brewery’s Carolina Blonde and Carolina Strawberry.

In addition to $2 craft beers, Tuesday will feature a Craig Kimbrel poster for the first 1,000 fans presented by Sheriar Press and 100.3 The Team. Wednesday will be a Wiener Wednesday with $1 hot dogs. Thursday is “Guaranteed Great Weather Night” – If any rain falls after the 7:05 p.m. first pitch, all fans will receive a voucher to attend another game. Bark in the Ballpark A Success!

(Fort Mill, SC) – It was a beautiful day for baseball on Sunday, June 2 as the Charlotte Knights welcomed all fans and dogs out to Knights Stadium for a 2:15 p.m. matinee game between the Knights and Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins).

The team’s annual Bark in the Ballpark celebration was filled with dog-themed tables on the concourse, a pre-game on-field dog parade, pooch-friendly music, and more. The great people from the Human Society of York County were on-hand for the event and the goal of the day was to raise money and find a good home for some of their puppies.

All of the dogs in attendance strutted their stuff during the parade and later in the day. Dogs of all ages and sizes were in attendance on Sunday.

Fans had a chance to see some dog clips on the in-stadium videoboard. One of the mound visits featured a clip from the Jetsons’ Astro. Other video dogs were Scooby Doo, Snoopy, and Brian from Family Guy.

Later in the day, the Knights had a special check presentation on the field to announce that the team raised $2,526 for the Human Society of York County. The money raised will go to insuring that all of the dogs at the shelter are well taken care of before they are adopted.

In all, three of the five dogs were adopted on Sunday at Knights Stadium and will now go to a great new home.

The entire Bark in the Ballpark celebration was sponsored by Nutramax Laboratories and Spay Neuter Clinic of the Carolinas.

Sunday’s game gave true meaning to “Dog Days of Summer”. It was a barking good time!

The Miracle play the Bradenton Marauders at 6:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium and fireworks will light up the Southwest Florida sky after the game. The first 500 women entering the ballpark will receive a pink tote bag compliments of McDonald’s. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

In honor of breast cancer survivors, the Miracle will wear pink jerseys that will be available for auction during the game. The auction will take place on the concourse and conclude in the middle of the sixth inning. Fans with the winning bids will be invited onto the field after the game to receive the jersey from the respective player.The silent auction will also other items including a Key West Express Round Trip flight from Air Expeditions Seaplane Adventures, dinner and show for four from the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, a two-day, one-night stay at the Crowne Plaza including gift certificates to Shoeless Joe’s Sports Cafe, gift certificates from Norman Love Chocolates, the Prawnbroker restaurant, the University Grill and much more.

Compliments of 94.5 The Arrow and Scream Guitars, there also be a special raffle for a one of a kind pink electric guitar.

A portion of the net proceeds will benefit the Lee Memorial Health Systems Regional Cancer Center to assist with mammogram services for uninsured and underinsured patients.

Prior to the game, a survivor walk will begin at 5:15 p.m. around the warning track at Hammond Stadium. Fans who are survivors are invited to take part. Proceeds from the jersey auction, silent auction and raffles will be used to assist with mammogram services for uninsured women and men in the community.

Tickets are available at the Miracle offices on the third floor of Hammond Stadium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.miraclebaseball.com or call (239) 768-4210.

Drillers Donate Over $20,000 to Tornado Relief

Fans mull over memorabilia Friday, May 25 during one of two in-game silent auctions held by the Drillers at ONEOK Field to raise money for Oklahoma Tornado Relief. The Drillers raised over $10,000 and donated another $10,000 to the American Red Cross.

The Tulsa Drillers have announced a donation of $20,375.94 to the American Red Cross to directly benefit Oklahomans who were impacted by the recent tornadoes that struck the communities of Moore and Shawnee.

The Drillers organization donated $10,000 and the remaining dollars were raised through in-stadium auctions and T-shirt sales. Items sold included autographs, game-used equipment and various sports memorabilia with several Drillers players, Texas League and Major League Baseball teams providing items.

“The Drillers are happy to play a small part in the relief efforts,” said Drillers General Manager Mike Melega. “Our entire organization is so appreciative of our incredibly generous fans, our peers from around the Texas League and our parent club, the Colorado Rockies for all of their support to help raise much-needed dollars to aid in the recovery process.”

Melega said, “Our thoughts are with all those whose lives were affected by the storms.”

Tampa Yankees Raise Money For Breast Cancer Awareness

Tampa, FL – The Tampa Yankees and The Container Store teamed up for this year’s Annual Pink Out Night held on Saturday, May 4th. This event raised over $2,200 this year for the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center and Institute and has raised over $20,000 since 2007.

Over 3,600 fans, the majority clad in pink attire, entered the stadium to enjoy the Tampa Yankees game and post game fireworks. Players wore pink and blue jerseys, which were auctioned off during the game. Auction winners were invited to go onto the field after the game to meet the player who wore the jersey and get it autographed.
