Shorebirds Raise over $4,900 for Operation We Care through 9/11 Patriotic Jersey Auction

 

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the Delmarva Shorebirds wore special patriotic jerseys to honor the 20th anniversary of all those lost through the terrible attacks of September 11, 2001. Through the patriotic jersey auction, the Shorebirds were able to raise $4,916.52 for Operation We Care to support the men and women who serve in the military and as first responders. In addition, Operation We Care will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Department of MD VFW Family Assistance Program.

“Operation We Care is a great initiative that the Shorebirds are proud to support each and every year,” explained Shorebirds General Manager Chris Bitters. “Our men and women in our military, hospitals, and first responders have been battling on the front lines throughout the pandemic and we are thrilled to support them by donating to Operation We Care to aid in their efforts.”

The special patriotic jerseys honored all our military branches with all the service marks located on the back of each jersey. On the front of the jersey underneath the Shorebirds script, was the United States official seal with stars and stripes located just below each player’s jersey number. On the right sleeve of each jersey, the Shorebirds placed a Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States badge in support of all veterans and those who have served our country. The jersey auction was held online from September 11 to September 22 with fans having the opportunity to bid on these special, game-worn autographed jerseys.

On September 11, 2021, the Shorebirds hosted a special patriotic night to honor the lives lost during the September 11th attacks presented by Pohanka of Salisbury. The night featured the players wearing these patriotic jerseys, special in-game tributes, and the night capped with the final fireworks show of the year presented by Pohanka of Salisbury.

Patriots Tropical Storm Ida Relief Fundraising Reaches $35,000

 

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, have announced that recent fundraising efforts by the team have raised $35,000 for Tropical Storm Ida relief in Central New Jersey.

The team collected $17,500 through an online auction and 50/50 raffles at the ballpark. That amount was then matched by the Kalafer family, Flemington Car & Truck Country Family of Brands, Clinton Honda, and Jaguar Land Rover Princeton.

“Patriots fans once again demonstrated why they are truly the best,” said Patriots Co-Chairman Jonathan Kalafer. “When our community needed them most, our fans showed up to support their neighbors and friends. Their generosity has inspired our family and our dealerships to do our part and match the fundraising total to assist in the recovery efforts.”

The online fundraising was done in partnership with MiLB Auctions and featured memorabilia, as well as experiences donated to the team. The top selling items included four tickets to see Hamilton on Broadway with a pre-show dinner at Bond 45 (donated by The Actors Fund), a Derek Jeter signed bat inscribed “HOF 2020” (donated by MLB), and a foursome at Trump National Golf Course Bedminster (donated by the Kalafer family).

Donations included items from the New York Giants, New York Knicks, and the New York Mets. Teams throughout the Double-A Northeast League sent autographed baseballs of their top prospects and recent alumni to help the cause.

“We want to thank everyone that donated items, and of course all the bidders, that made the auction such a success,” said Somerset’s President/General Manager Patrick McVerry. “Each of the teams and organizations that donated items did so on short notice with the understanding of the pressing need to get help to those affected by the floods. We would not have been able to raise these funds without them.”

The Patriots hosted 50/50 raffles at the final three home games of the season and collected money at the ballpark and online to add to the fundraising totals.

“The next steps will be to get the money to the non-profits that will do the most good for those affected in Central New Jersey,” said Patriots Co-Chairman Josh Kalafer. “It was important to our team, our family, and the dealerships, that the fundraising would be distributed locally and in a timely manner. Our community needed help, and we wanted to show that we are here for them.”

The Patriots are planning additional fundraising efforts to continue raising money for Tropical Storm Ida relief. More information will be made available in the coming weeks.

River Cats participate in Homers That Help campaign

 

West Sacramento, Calif. — The Sacramento River Cats are proud to have partnered with Minor League Baseball to participate in the Triple-A Final Stretch “Homers That Help” campaign, in which the California Fire Foundation was selected as the local charity to benefit.

“We’re honored to be chosen as part of the Triple-A Final Stretch Homers That Help campaign,” said Rick Martinez, Executive Director of the California Fire Foundation. “We’ve all seen how destructive this year’s fire season has been, which has left many needing a helping hand. There are many organizations working hard to make a difference, and we are honored by the support and recognition.”

For each home run hit by the River Cats during the 10 Triple-A Final Stretch games, Minor League Baseball donated $50 to the California Fire Foundation. Additionally, the team hitting the most home runs over the 10-game span generated an extra $5,000 donation.

“Minor League Baseball teams have long been great community partners, and we are pleased to make a donation to each of these local charities on behalf of our Triple-A teams for their performance during the Triple-A Final Stretch,” said Major League Baseball’s Vice President, Minor League Operations and Development, Peter Woodfork. “These charities provide a variety of valuable services to their community, and it is our honor to recognize their efforts.”

On Monday, it was announced the Homers That Help campaign raised $20,700 for 501(c)3 charities across the 30 Triple-A communities. By leading the Final Stretch with 24 home runs, the Omaha Storm Chasers also claimed the overall Homers That Help prize, a $5,000 donation for their charity, the B&B Sports Academy in Omaha.

With 13 home runs hit during the final 10 games, the River Cats created a $650 donation to the California Fire Foundation.

“We are very pleased that the stretch drive of the Triple-A season not only generated excitement for fans but also donations to deserving organizations in our communities across the country,” Woodfork said. “We thank our players and clubs for their efforts throughout our return to the field this year and look forward to an even more exciting 2022.”

Homers That Help highlights Jumbo Shrimp Triple-A Final Stretch

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Minor League Baseball has created a charitable component to the Triple-A Final Stretch of games that will benefit 501(c)3 charities in each Triple-A city.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will join the “Homers That Help” campaign to benefit 5000 Models of Excellence. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project aims to intervene in the lives of minority male youth in an effort to provide them with both positive role models and experiences in order to empower making good choices and encouraging healthy living, responsibility, respect and achievement.

“We are excited to be able to continue to find ways to better the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida community,” said Jumbo Shrimp Executive Vice President/General Manager Harold Craw. “5000 Models of Excellence does extraordinary work for youth through the state of Florida and Duval County. Through five games of the Triple-A Final Stretch, the Jumbo Shrimp have hit four home runs. Gwinnett Stripers Award $2,500 September Grant to Helping Mamas

 

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Gwinnett Stripers, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves Foundation, have awarded their $2,500 September grant to Helping Mamas.

Helping Mamas, based in Norcross, is a baby supply bank that partners with over 150 agencies to provide low-income mothers and children with access to basic needs and essential items (like diapers, wipes, car seats, cribs, etc.) to help them thrive and grow. Over the last seven years, Helping Mamas has distributed over two million essential items to families throughout Georgia.

The Stripers selected Helping Mamas to receive the September grant, focused on Health and Wellness. The $2,500 grant will be utilized by the organization to purchase items of critical basic need for their distribution events. The funds will support the diapering of approximately 825 children through mobile distributions to families desperately in need.

“We appreciate the support from local community partners like the Gwinnett Stripers,” said Jan Ruth Mayheu, Director of Major Giving for Helping Mamas. “With this grant, we will serve hundreds of families experiencing diaper needs during these trying times. Collaborations and community partners are what help make our communities stronger and keep families healthy and thriving.”

Representatives from Helping Mamas received the grant from the Stripers on September 17 at Coolray Field.

Aces Final Stretch homers to benefit District 1 Little League in Northern Nevada

 

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces will be competing on behalf of Northern Nevada’s District 1 Little League, as part of Minor League Baseball’s “Homers that Help.” For each home run the Aces hit over the Triple-A Final Stretch, MiLB will donate $50 to District 1.

“We are thrilled to partner with District 1 to help fund scholarships for athletes in need of assistance,” said Aces president Eric Edelstein. “We look forward to working with them to grow participation in sports through this partnership!”

District 1 represents 12 Little Leagues across the Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Lake Tahoe areas. District 1 coordinates all league initiatives, as well as MLB initiatives such as Home Run Derby and Pitch, Hit and Run. They also coordinate training for umpires, volunteers and coaches for all leagues.

The Final Stretch will include the 10 remaining games against Albuquerque and Las Vegas, concluding on Sunday, August 3 at home against Las Vegas.

Through 118 regular season games, the Aces hit the second-most homers in all of Triple-A – 193 long balls.

Isotopes Team Up With Enlace Comunitario For “Homers That Help”

 

For each home run hit by Triple-A teams (home and road), during the Triple-A Final Stretch of the last 10 games of the season, Major League Baseball will donate $50 per home run to a local charity selected by each team. The club with the most home runs over the 10-game span will generate an additional $5,000 donation for their charity.

The Albuquerque Isotopes have chosen Enlace Comunitario to be the beneficiary of the “Homers That Help” initiative. The mission of Enlace Comunitario is to transform the lives of individuals and their families experiencing domestic violence by working to decrease gender inequity and intimate partner violence in the Latinx immigrant community in Central New Mexico.

The Isotopes’ “Final Stretch” begins tonight as they host Reno at 6:35 p.m. to launch their final homestand of the season. The team finishes the regular season with five games at Sacramento from September 29-October 3.

Rainiers partner with Rebuilding Together South Sound for “Final Stretch”

 

TACOMA, WA (9/23/21) – For every home run the 2021 Triple-A West Champion Tacoma Rainiers hit between September 23 and October 3, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) will donate $50 to Rebuilding Together South Sound. It’s one of 30 partners selected by each Triple-A club during the “Final Stretch” of 10 games to conclude the 2021 season.

The Rainiers begin the Final Stretch Thursday in Texas against the Round Rock Express, before ending the 2021 Triple-A season at home against the Salt Lake Bees, September 29 through October 3 at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma – hitters of 177 home runs this season in their first 120 games – are looking to help a great local partner by continuing their power surge. On top of the $50 per homer, the team that hits the most homers over their 10-game span will raise an additional $5,000 for their selected charity, also courtesy of MiLB.

Since 2001, Rebuilding Together South Sound has repaired over 1,000 homes and 18 non-profit facilities, reinvesting over $7.8 million into our community. The organization seeks to advance health equity by improving housing outcomes for those in economically distressed communities. Other needs they address include roof repairs and energy-efficiency upgrades.

The Rainiers’ participation in the “Homers That Help” drive during the Triple-A Final Stretch is an extension of the BECU “Home Runs for Homes” program, where for every home run that a Rainiers player hit at Cheney Stadium during the 2021 regular season, BECU donated $50 to Rebuilding Together South Sound.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Each home run hit by the Oklahoma City Dodgers during Triple-A’s Final Stretch will benefit Cleats For Kids in Oklahoma City thanks to a Minor League Baseball™ initiative called “Homers That Help.”

All 30 Triple-A clubs close their 2021 seasons with a 10-game Final Stretch, including the OKC Dodgers who play five road games against the Las Vegas Aviators starting tonight, and five home games against the El Paso Chihuahuas Wednesday, Sept. 29-Sunday, Oct. 3 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

For each home run hit by Triple-A teams (both at home and on the road) during the Final Stretch, Minor League Baseball will donate $50 per home run to a local 501(c)3 charity selected by the team. The team with the most home runs hit during the 10-game span will generate an extra $5,000 donation for its charity of choice.

The organization began in 2011 in Oklahoma City and has impacted more than 150,000 kids, partnering with 55 youth organizations and 220 Oklahoma school districts, according to the C4K website.

“Cleats for Kids provides opportunity for our Oklahoma youth to benefit from the transformational power of sport,” Oklahoma City Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “Purchasing sports gear can be a prohibitive factor that keeps children from participating in youth sports, and Cleats for Kids helps remove that obstacle. We’re hoping for numerous OKC Dodgers home runs over the next 10 games to help further Cleats for Kids’ charitable cause.”

The OKC Dodgers open the 10-game Final Stretch tonight with a five-game road series starting at 9:05 p.m. CT against the Las Vegas Aviators at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Dodgers then close out their 2021 schedule with a five-game home series against the El Paso Chihuahuas starting at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. WooSox are “Going Gold” for Childhood Cancer Awareness Night, Set for Friday, September 24, 6:35 PM

Resilience of those in the fight will be celebrated with pregame ceremony, in-game tribute, and postgame gold-themed fireworks show.

 

WORCESTER, MA – September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Worcester Red Sox will pay tribute by “going gold” for their final Friday night game at Polar Park this inaugural season, scheduled for September 24 at 6:35 PM. Gold ribbons will be painted on the field in foul territory, players will have the option of wearing gold wristbands, and more than 100 childhood cancer patients and their families will be invited to help form a human gold ribbon in the outfield during the WooSox’ pregame ceremonies. At the end of one inning, tentatively set for the 3rd inning, the players from both teams will hold gold placards, as will fans, media, and broadcasters, each inscribed with the name of someone who has been in the battle.

The families who are participating come to the WooSox via Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic, the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts & Rhode Island, the Tomorrow Fund, the UMass Memorial Health Cancer Center, and Why Me & Sherry’s House. All are community partners of the WooSox and the WooSox Foundation.

In advance of the night, the WooSox will present a check for more than $50,000 on Wednesday, September 22 to UMass Memorial Medical Center, the exclusive health care provider of the WooSox. On Friday, the WooSox Foundation will present another $10,000 to the Jimmy Fund Clinic. WooSox fans raised those funds at Polar Park in advance of last month’s Red Sox/ Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon on WEEI and NESN.

Worcester Red Sox Principal Owner and Chairman Larry Lucchino is the Chairman of the legendary Jimmy Fund. The Dana-Farber Institute has saved Lucchino’s life three times.

“It is part of our Red Sox ethos to partner with the Jimmy Fund, part of our Worcester ethos to partner with UMass Memorial, and part of our Pawtucket heritage to partner with the Tomorrow Fund,” Lucchino said. “We are also joining forces with local charities, such as Why Me? and Sherry’s Place, with more to come in the future. All of Red Sox Nation should be aware of the long history we have of fighting this cruel, miserable disease. We should be aware of the strides we have taken, the heroic research going on right now, and the miles we have to go before we conquer cancer.”

Fans will find the gold placards at their seat, and after writing the name of the person whom they want to remember or honor, they will rise as one at the end of the third inning. Fans with general admission tickets may pick up the placards and permanent markers at tables around the ballpark.

Following the game, the WooSox will present their final fireworks show of the season, gold-themed with inspiring music about perseverance, strength, and compassion from “Rocky,” Rachel Platten, and others. The fireworks spectacular is presented by UniBank.

RubberDucks to donate $1 of each walkup playoff ticket to Somerset Community

 

(AKRON, OHIO) September 22, 2021 – In the wake of the devastating flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Ida the Somerset County, New Jersey, community experienced on Sept. 2, the RubberDucks hope to aid in the rebuilding efforts by sending donations to the Somerset Patriots official charity. The club will donate $1 from every walkup ticket sold during RubberDucks home playoff games to The Somerset Patriots Children’s Educational and Sportsmanship Foundation.

Tides Announce Triple-A Final Stretch Charity Recipient

 

The Norfolk Tides today announced that they have chosen the Booker T. Washington High School Friends and Alumni Association as their charity to benefit during the Triple-A Final Stretch. For each home run hit by the Tides (home and road games) during the Triple-A Final Stretch, Minor League Baseball will donate $50 per home run to the BTW High School Friends and Alumni Association. The Triple-A team hitting the most home runs over the 10-game span will generate an extra $5,000 donation for their charity.

The Booker T. Washington High School Friends and Alumni Association aims to make substantial contributions to help enhance, supplement and undergird all departmental programs, activities and capital projects of the school. The Foundation recognizes that, because of the historical imbalances of opportunity for many of our school’s families, many, too many of their students face extraordinary financial challenges. The Foundation has provided significant funding and helped defray costs of special testing, music programs, field trips, boys and girls sports equipment and uniforms, books, arts equipment and other required materials, as well as having created opportunities for students to participate in community service.

The Foundation also works closely with the Booker T Washington High School Baseball and Softball teams. In addition, former Negro League player, Sam Allen, is closely associated with the Foundation. The Norfolk native played with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1957, the Raleigh Tigers in 1958 and the Memphis Red Sox in 1959. In 1957, Allen would lead the league in runs scored. Each team in Triple-A team picked a local 501(c)3 charity to donate to during the Triple-A Final Stretch. “Minor League Baseball teams have long been great community partners, and we are pleased to make a donation to each of these local charities on behalf of our Triple-A teams for their performance during the Triple-A Final Stretch,” said Major League Baseball’s Vice President, Minor League Operations and Development, Peter Woodfork. “These charities provide a variety of valuable services to their community, and it is our honor to recognize their efforts.”

Sounds Partner with Nashville RBI for Triple-A Final Stretch

Minor League Baseball has announced the creation of a charitable component to the 10-game Triple-A Final Stretch of games that will benefit 501(c)3 charities in each Triple-A city. The Nashville Sounds are proud to partner with Nashville RBI for the “Homers That Help” campaign.

For each home run hit by the Sounds during the Triple-A Final Stretch, Minor League Baseball will donate $50 per home run to Nashville RBI, the charity selected by the Sounds. The team that hits the most home runs over the 10-game span will generate an extra $5,000 donation for their charity.

Nashville RBI’s (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) mission is to provide the youth of Nashville the opportunity to play baseball and softball from the age of 5 to 18. Nashville RBI believes all youth should have an opportunity to participate in structured athletic programs that are both affordable and conveniently located in the communities in which they live.

Shorebirds & Preston Automotive Group Raise Over $10,000 in Funds and Toys to Support the Fight Against Cancer

 

SALISBURY, MD – On August 6, 2021, the Delmarva Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group teamed up to host Flock for a Cure night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to support and raise awareness for those affected by cancer. During the game, the Shorebirds wore special jerseys that allowed fans to place the names of loved ones affected by cancer on the jersey and place bids on these authentic, game-worn jerseys.

Through both fans purchasing a name space on the jersey and the Flock for a Cure jersey auction, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group were able to raise $8,366 for local charities and purchase over $1,000 in toys to donate to Brooke’s Toy Closet!

“Our community is and always will be a top priority for the Shorebirds and we are thrilled to help out many organizations through the tremendous success of this jersey auction,” explained Shorebirds General Manager Chris Bitters. “Initiatives like this are vital to powering our community and would not happen without the support of partners like Preston Automotive Group that allow us to positively impact Delmarva.”

“The meaning behind Flock for Cure is near and dear to our hearts and we know that cancer has unfortunately impacted many other’s lives as well,” said President of the Preston Automotive Group, David Wilson Jr. “Community is one of our core values at the Preston Automotive Group and we are grateful to have had this opportunity to partner with the Shorebirds to give back to organizations that do so much for our local community members in need.”

Over the last couple of seasons, the Shorebirds have partnered with Brooke’s Toy Closet to collect toys for children who are hospitalized in the TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Emergency Department. Through this year’s Flock for a Cure Jersey Auction and fans’ donations on Flock for a Cure Night presented by Preston Automotive Group, the Shorebirds were able to collect over $2,000 worth of toys to donate to Brooke’s Toy Closet.

“Hospitals, for all the good they do, can be an unsettling place at times for kids,” said Denise Billing, President, TidalHealth Foundation, “Donations like this from the Shorebirds help our healthcare team to be able to relieve some of that anxiety by providing that child a toy at a time they need a smile. We appreciate the Shorebirds doing something special for our youngest patients.”

In addition, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group were able to raise an additional $1,000 to donate to Brooke’s Toy Closet to purchase more toys in the future for other children who are admitted in the TidalHealth Peninsula Regional
Emergency Department.

The Flock for a Cure jersey auction also raised proceeds for two other charities helping further our local community and support the fight against cancer.

Through the auction, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group donated $3,683 to both the Brooke Mulford Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and Relay for Life, helping grow both of their initiatives in the fight against cancer.

“On behalf of the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life of Wicomico, I would like to thank the Delmarva Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group for their generous donation and support in the life saving work of the American Cancer Society,” said Relay for Life of Wicomico Chair Ashley Clevenger. “ We have all been touched by Cancer in very personal ways, and through events such as Relay For Life we are uniting with countless others to fight this vicious disease globally, as well as locally within our Community. Together we can imagine a world without Cancer, knowing all of our efforts ARE making a difference!”

In total, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group raised $8,366 for Brooke’s Toy Closet, Brooke Mulford Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, and Relay for Life while also donating over $2,000 worth of toys to Brooke’s Toy Closet at TidalHealth helping Flock for a Cure Night result in a terrific success.

WooSox to Take Part in the Triple-A Final Stretch “Homers That Help” Campaign

Major League Baseball will donate $50 to Worcester’s Why Me & Sherry’s House for every WooSox Home Run hit between Wednesday, September 22 and Sunday, October 3.

 

WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Red Sox conclude their inaugural season at Polar Park with a five-game homestand against the Rochester Red Wings that begins tomorrow evening on Wednesday, September 22 at 6:35pm. They will be joining all of the Triple-A clubs in the country by taking part in the “Homers That Help” campaign, as Major League Baseball donates $50 for every Home Run to a charity of the Triple-A club’s choice from Wednesday, September 22 through Sunday, October 3.

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month the WooSox have selected Why Me & Sherry’s House to be the beneficiary of Major League Baseball’s generosity, and they will receive $50 for every WooSox Home Run hit during this time span. If the WooSox just so happen to lead all of Triple-A in Home Runs during this final stretch, Major League Baseball will donate an additional $5,000 to Why Me & Sherry’s House. Any ties for the overall leader will be broken by the team with the fewest number of at-bats among the teams that tied for the lead.

“We are grateful for Major League Baseball’s generosity and view the Homers that Help campaign as a time to recognize that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” said Club President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. “These funds will help local Worcester charities, Why Me & Sherry’s House, provide care and comfort to the families whose children are going through the storm. We celebrate their acts, and we thank MLB for providing such meaningful resources that will directly help the families of Worcester.”

Why Me is a Worcester Based non-profit organization created to help Central New England families cope with childhood cancer. WHY ME, which stands for Worcester Help for Youth, Memories Everlasting, has been providing support for families with children fighting cancer since 1985. They will be in attendance with other local non-profits at Polar Park for the club’s first-ever Childhood Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, September 24.

Sherry’s House is Why Me’s eight-bedroom residence in Worcester’s Tatnuck Square that opened in 2004, and serves as a home-away-from-home for families while their child is on active treatment. Additionally, Sherry’s House is proudly home to Why Me’s administrative offices, and hosts many events and activities throughout the year.

“We thank Major League Baseball and the WooSox for selecting our organization to be the recipient of the Homers That Help Campaign during the Triple-A final stretch,” said Danielle Sikonski, Director of Family Services. “This support will help Why Me to continue providing tangible support, financial assistance, fun outings and more to our families who have been affected by childhood cancer.
