River Cats now accepting national anthem video submissions

 

West Sacramento, Calif. – The Sacramento River Cats are now accepting national anthem video submissions for the 2021 season. If selected, artists will have their rendition aired on the Sutter Health Park video board during pregame ceremonies of a River Cats home game.

All artists – whether soloists, groups, or instrumentalists – must submit their anthem performances no later than Sunday, May 2 in order to be considered for the 2021 season.

The River Cats will kick off the 2021 season on May 6 with road series in Las Vegas and Oklahoma City before returning home to host the Reno Aces on May 20. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. (PT).

Due to local safety guidelines, Sutter Health Park’s capacity has been reduced to encourage proper social distancing. Additionally, face coverings must be worn and all tickets must be purchased online as the Tri Counties Bank Ticket Office will not be open. “The purpose of National Girls and Women in Sports Day is to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports,” said Aces general manager Emily Jaenson.

Today marks the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. Storm Chasers Awarding 14th Annual Jackie Robinson Scholarships

 

Chasers Charities, the charitable arm of the Omaha Storm Chasers, is proud to announce the 14th annual Jackie Robinson Athletic Scholarship contest presented by The Weitz Company. The program honors two local African-American students in an effort to commemorate the baseball legend that broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947.

One male and one female student in the Greater Omaha area will be awarded a $1,000 dollar scholarship from Chasers Charities to recognize the athletes for their hard work, character, and motivation to make a positive impact on our local community and society as a whole. There are several attributes the recipient must demonstrate to be considered for this award including athletic achievement, scholarship in the classroom, community involvement, integrity, and motivation.

“We are very pleased to continue the legacy of Jackie Robinson by offering these scholarships for the 14th year, and we are thankful to The Weitz Company for partnering with us on this special program,” said Storm Chasers President Martie Cordaro. “We look forward to seeing many deserving applications this year.”

Interested applicants must submit their application by March 31. The winners will be notified by April 9 and honored at a Storm Chasers’ home game. To be eligible for the Jackie Robinson Athletic Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Resident of Sarpy, Douglas, Cass, Lancaster or Pottawattamie County
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • African-American (male or female), and a high school student participating in athletics
  • High school senior or graduate planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited postsecondary institution

NEST, Storm Chasers Announce Annual Writing Sweepstakes

Seventh and eighth grade students to create essays about “Why I Want to Go to College”

The Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) and the Omaha Storm Chasers have officially begun the 19th annual “Why I Want to Go to College” essay sweepstakes, Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante announced Tuesday.

Seventh and eighth grade students from around the country may submit their entries leading up to the April 1 sweepstakes deadline. Essays must be 750 words or less, describing the value of a college education and the student’s educational goals for the future. Entries are to be typed, double-spaced, on 8½-by-11-inch paper and must be the student’s original work. Each essay must be accompanied with the required cover sheet (2021 Writing Sweepstakes Cover Sheet).

Three winners will be chosen from each of Nebraska’s three Congressional districts, and three others will be selected from outside Nebraska. Winners will receive contributions to the NEST college savings accounts equaling $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for third.

All winners from Nebraska will be notified in April. Winners will also receive four tickets to a Storm Chasers game and will be recognized prior to the contest for their achievements.

Prasek’s Family Smokehouse Lends a Helping Hand to Community

Prasek’s Family Smokehouse is accustomed to delving out heavy portions of their award-winning sausage and other items to their many patrons.

But even they may have outdone themselves in terms of quantity this year.

Prasek’s, a proud partner of the Sugar Land Skeeters, served approximately 10,000 soldiers, veterans and families at Fort Hood this past October in support of Cowboys 4 Heroes. They served 2,500 pounds of sausage and were prepared to serve up to as many as 20,000 people.

“Prasek’s Family Smokehouse is proud to partner with Cowboys 4 Heroes and combine our beliefs and efforts to assist our military families. Providing a family meal will give them a little break from the kitchen,” said Prasek’s Generals Manager of Retail Operations, Duane Korenek. “It is our civic duty to support our veterans. Food is our business so we will do it with sausage, burgers and hot dogs.”

This is not the first time that Prasek’s has donated a large quantity of food to a worthwhile cause.

This past March, once again in support of Cowboys 4 Heroes, they donated 2,000 meals as part of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show Armed Forces Day. In April, there were 2,880 meals donated to Gallery Furniture to help feed the less fortunate amidst the pandemic.

In 2019, Prasek’s donated a combined 14,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank, Victoria Food Bank and Christ’s Kitchen – Victoria.

“Prasek’s is built on strong family values and there are families in need; that’s why we are doing this,” said Vice President and GM of production and sales for Prasek’s Family Smokehouse Mike Prasek, Jr. in 2019. “We support as many causes as we can including the needy, military veterans, law enforcement and countless non-profits. Round Rock Express to Host Winter Baseball Camp

 

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express are excited to announce details for the team’s annual Winter Baseball Camp at Dell Diamond. The three-day camp is scheduled to run 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. from Monday, December 28 through Wednesday, December 30. Registration is $250, open to participants ages 6-14, and available now via ExpressCamps.com.

“Hosting a baseball camp over the holiday season has become one of our favorite winter traditions here at Dell Diamond and we are thrilled that we can continue that tradition in 2020,” Express Camps Director Chase Almendarez said. “As always, the safety of our campers remains the top priority and we have proven through our previous summer and Skills & Drills camps that we can continue to provide high-level baseball instruction from our experienced group of coaches in a safe, responsible and socially-distanced manner.”

Express Camps offer big league quality instruction on the fundamentals of the game. Express Camps range by age and offer opportunities for all skill levels and provide high-level instruction from knowledgeable, experienced and passionate coaches. Every Express Camp aims to develop the complete ballplayer by emphasizing physical, mental and leadership skill sets.

The safety of participants and staff at Express Camps is the top priority. As mandated by the State of Texas, the Express will be implementing a series of expanded protocols and procedures. Each camp will be limited in numbers to follow health and safety protocols from local and state officials with campers split into small groups based on age that will remain consistent for the duration of each camp. Each group will have two dedicated coaches that will stay with that group for the duration of camp. Campers will not participate in games or scrimmages with other groups.

Additionally, parents and guardians will not be allowed to attend camps, except to drop off and pick up campers at designated curbside areas. Assigned coaches and staff will check campers in and out of camp at designated curbside areas. Water stations, which are regularly monitored and sanitized, will be available to campers only. Chasers in the Community

 

The Omaha Storm Chasers in conjunction with Chasers Charities and Spectra Food Services and Hospitality combined for over 600 hours of community service in the Omaha Metro this year, and welcomed nearly 90,000 fans to a safe and socially distant Werner Park in 2020.

“We are proud of our staff for continuing to work in the community during this especially difficult year and we will continue to pursue opportunities and plan events that provide community connections in 2021,” said Storm Chasers General Manager Laurie Schlender. “While we have had staff reductions and no baseball in 2020, our commitment to being involved in the community has not wavered and we are planning things for 2021 that will continue that commitment.”

The Storm Chasers organization was also visible throughout the Omaha Metro community, as the combined number of mascot and staff appearances totaled 75. Chasers Charities in partnership with The Weitz Company also awarded two $1,000 college scholarships through the Jackie Robinson Scholarship program to Livia McFadden and Nolan Christianson. The Chasers also partnered with numerous non-profit organizations throughout the year including Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Salvation Army, the Tangier Shrine, Project Wee Care and the Foodbank for the Heartland amongst many others. They also partnered with Jack Daniels to provide for Operation Ride Home for the second straight year.

A brand new classroom program, Chasers All-Stars, was also created in 2020 providing parents, teachers, and administrators the ability to nominate teachers from the metro to be honored. Over 20 classrooms were surprised in February and March with a visit from Stormy, a weather demonstration provided by KMTV and a variety of prizes.

Despite many challenges brought by Covid-19, the Storm Chasers remained committed to providing relief for the Omaha Metro Community. A partnership with Kidwell Inc. provided 25 gallons of hand sanitizer to the Ronald McDonald House in April and nearly $1000 was donated to the Foodbank of the Heartland through Feeding America, while donating tickets for the 2021 season to frontline workers. The Storm Chasers were also able to provide a sense of normalcy providing two free drive-in firework shows and six Curbside To Go pick up meals.

Sounds to Host Blood Drive at First Horizon Park

 

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club announced today it has partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at First Horizon Park on Wednesday, November 11.

The Veterans Day blood drive is limited to the first 50 participants. Those interested in donating blood are required to sign up here (Code: NASHVILLESOUNDS). Appointments are available from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in 15-minute increments and will take place in the Brauer Lounge at First Horizon Park.

All blood drive participants will be subject to a temperature check at the door. Anybody with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be permitted inside First Horizon Park. Pursuant to Order 8 issued by the Metro Department of Health on June 17, guests 13 and older will be required to wear masks at First Horizon Park while entering, exiting, and moving around the ballpark. Participants should expect to be at the ballpark for about one hour.

All participants will receive a 15% discount to Third and Home the day of the blood drive. Third and Home opens at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.

The Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play at First Horizon Park. The 2021 Minor League Baseball Schedule will be announced at a later date.

WHAT: Las Vegas Ballpark®, in partnership with Vitalant, the largest blood provider in Nevada, will host the One October Memorial Blood Drive, a one-day blood drive in memory of One October.

The public drive is presented by Nevada Health Link, the online insurance marketplace operated by Silver State Health Insurance Exchange that will offer this year more than 50 insurance plans and is the only place Nevadans can qualify for subsidies to offset the cost of insurance.

The One Memorial Blood Drive takes place at Las Vegas Ballpark from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 1.

Leadership from Las Vegas Ballpark as well as local icons will kick off the drive with personal donations starting at 9 a.m. They will be cheered on by Las Vegas Ballpark mascots – Spruce the Goose and Aviator – who will be on hand to greet donors.

Reno Aces and Reno 1868 FC Donating Toys to Ashlee’s Toy Closet

 

In the midst of possibly the worst fire season on record, the Reno Aces and Reno 1868 FC are donating toys to Ashlee’s Toy Closet.

“We are glad to support Ashlee’s Toy Closet again in a time of need for wildfire victims near our home,” said Aces and 1868 FC president Eric Edelstein. “Thank you to Jakks Pacific for providing these toys in partnership. We hope these toys may bring a small comfort for children experiencing unfathomable tragedy.”

Ashlee’s Toy Closet is a local non-profit that distributes toys to children in and around the area who have lost their homes due to fire.

The toys will be delivered to Phoenix, Oregon in conjunction with Jackson County Fire District No. 5. Donations are still being accepted, and more information can be found on Facebook and Instagram @ashleestoycloset.

Nashville Sounds Announce Virtual 5K Presented by First Horizon

 

The Nashville Sounds Postseason Run presented by First Horizon is now open for registration to participants around the world. The virtual 5K (3.1 miles) run will start on Tuesday, September 29 and end at the conclusion of the 2020 World Series. Registration options can be found at www.nashvillesounds.com/run.

For $40, all participants will be able to submit times throughout MLB’s postseason and in return receive the official run t-shirt, official run hat, finisher medal, a downloadable finisher’s certificate, and an invite to a post-run gathering at Germantown’s Bar with a Ballpark, Third and Home, on Saturday, October 31.

Runners will participate in one of the following age brackets with winners recognized from each:

In addition to receiving an invite to the post-run gathering, all participants will be able to use their finisher’s certificate for one complimentary Michelob Ultra (21 and older) or Pepsi fountain soda (under 21) at Third and Home during the month of October.

The Nashville Sounds are the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play at First Horizon Park. The 2021 Minor League Baseball Schedule will be announced at a later date.

Chihuahuas to Host Virtual 9-1-5K Presented by Texas Gas Service

 

EL PASO – September 15, 2020 – The El Paso Chihuahuas announced today their first virtual race, the 9-1-5K presented by Texas Gas Service. Named after El Paso’s area code “915”, registration for the virtual 5K run/walk will begin today (9/15) and conclude on September 30 and will benefit the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) relief efforts.

Registration is $30 per person with proceeds benefiting the El Paso Chihuahuas Foundation. Included in the fee is a participation tee shirt and one $9 voucher for a future Monday-Wednesday 2021 Chihuahuas game. For each entry sold, one voucher will be also donated to a frontline worker who has been helping those affected by COVID-19.

Participants will have one week to complete the 5K starting on Thursday, October 1 and ending on Thursday, October 8. Each participant may choose to walk, jog, and/or run and the 5K may take place outdoors, indoors, on a treadmill, etc. Each participant’s distance must be logged using any step app on any device (not included in the entry fee and is at participant’s own cost) and a photo of the distance must be submitted to info@epchihuahuas.com with the headline “9-1-5K Completed.”

Participants are also encouraged to take photos and tag @epchihuahuas on social media with the hashtag “#EP915K” for a chance to be featured on the respective Chihuahuas accounts.

Iowa Cubs to Host Naturalization Ceremony at Principal Park

 

On Thursday, September 17 — Constitution Day — the United States Citizenship and Immigration services, Des Moines Field Office, will hold a naturalization ceremony with the Southern District of Iowa, Des Moines Federal court, on the field at Principal Park.

The ceremony for 75 candidates — representing 32 different countries — will begin at 11 a.m.

The public is invited to attend the free event — which replaces the traditional July 4 pre-game ceremony as the Iowa Cubs 2020 season was canceled. Per the City of Des Moines guidelines, masks will be required for attendees.The Iowa Cubs first hosted a citizenship ceremony in 2009. It is now an annual event, with 327 new citizens welcomed during the first 11 years. [Earlier this summer, Principal Park hosted an informal Citizenship Week, June 22-26, when 487 new citizens were naturalized in a drive-thru process outside the stadium.]

The nation observes Constitution Day and Citizenship Day as part of Constitution Week. The commemoration honors the signing of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Iowa schools were the first to recognize Constitution Day, in 1911. Nationwide observance began in 1940 as “I Am an American Day.” Citizenship Day began in 1952, based on a law signed by President Harry Truman, and in 1955, President Dwight Eisenhower proclaimed the first Constitution Week.
