Baseballtown Charities Night Golf Set for September 12

 

The Reading Fightin Phils and Baseballtown Charities prepare to host their annual night golf event presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. The golf classic will be nine holes played at Manor Golf Club and the event will benefit a great cause in Baseballtown Charities.

Night Golf will be held on September 12 with registration beginning at 7pm and the walk starting at 8:15 pm. The classic will be played as a scramble event in foursomes. The registration fee is $300 and includes 1 glow ball, light saber, glow necklace, and hot dog/ chip voucher along with all you care to drink. There will be extra glow balls available to purchase.

Sponsorship packages are also available. There are different levels of packages for all types of recognition ranging from presenting sponsor to a one-hole sponsorship. They also include prominent signage, banner display, award presentation, and social media acknowledgment.

Harley Night is Back For R-Phils Party With A Purpose

 

The Reading Fightin Phils and Classic Harley-Davidson are bringing back Harley Night on Thursday, August 6th during their Party With A Purpose event. The night will begin with the annual ride from Classic Harley and the fun will continue at the ballpark. Enjoy live music, your favorite ballpark food & drinks, and a catch on the outfield!

This season would have been the 23rd Annual Harley Night. The R-Phils have found a way to continue the tradition this summer! The ride from Classic Harley in Leesport at 5:30 and end at FirstEnergy Stadium.

In keeping with the guidelines for outdoor dining, and social distancing, the event will be limited to a small number of people. This community event is family-friendly and will take place in Tompkins VIST Bank Plaza, as well as on the field at America’s Classic Ballpark!

Gates will open at 5:15 and the concession stand will be open from 5:30PM – 8:30PM. Fans will also have access to the field to have a catch and spread out. There will be live music by a local artist.

Powerhouse Programs To Square Off Wednesday At FirstEnergy Stadium

Students from Wilson-West Lawn & Plymouth Whitemarsh will take the field

(READING, PA) – Two strong baseball programs are scheduled to play one another as a part of the Rip It Baseballtown Charities Showcase. Mays Sandwich Shop – Spring Township (Wilson-West Lawn) will face Colonial Baseball (Plymouth Whitemarsh) at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:30pm. Admission is free for all fans that wish to attend.

Both associated high school teams were projected to be major players in the PIAA this season and set to make it deep into the state championships. Last year, they made it into the final rounds so many players are hungry to compete once again.

Brady Gibble, a senior from Wilson, participated in the All-Star Senior Classic on Monday and will play in the game on Wednesday. He said this has been something to really look forward to. “I’m glad to have a game against a good opponent that we could have possibly seen if we played the season,” Gibble explained. “Plus, this is a great field, it never disappoints to play here.”

Wilson’s head coach, Sal Raccuglia says his team had high expectations for the 2020 season. They have all of the pieces and will be extremely competitive next season. A lot of the players have been staying in shape playing travel and legion ball.

Raccuglia is looking forward to playing at FirstEnergy Stadium. “I want to give a bunch of different guys the opportunity for experience and playing time,” he said. “The showcase will provide a sense of baseball normalcy.”

Chris Moreno, the head coach of the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials expressed his gratitude to the R-Phils for hosting this showcase. “This showcase is a great way to give the guys a moment to see what they have been working towards,” Moreno noted. “I think this is a major opportunity to get the team back together on the field in a beautiful historic ballpark.

When asked about playing against Wilson, Moreno said his team is bringing a pretty big roster and is excited for the chance to play against high caliber teams to see how they measure up. Their main goal was to get back to the level they were at last year and with some key pieces returning, expectations were high. In the meantime, the Colonials will enjoy playing some baseball under the lights during this showcase.

Wilson and PW have multiple seniors going on to further their education and baseball careers. While these graduating seniors have contributed much to their teams past successes, there are many players who will remain on the roster and have a positive impact. Both teams are expected to remain contenders in 2021.

Berks Seniors Spend Memorable Night At First Energy Stadium

 

On Monday, July 13 the Berks County baseball seniors participated in the Rip It Baseballtown Charities All-Star Senior Classic. Players were honored before the game and competed in front of several hundred fans at FirstEnergy Stadium. A big thanks to EG Smith, Abilities in Motion, and Deer Country Farm & Lawn for sponsoring the nights action.

Twin Valley’s Trevor Laraia and Ryan Davis were excited for the opportunity. Davis noted the perfect field and evening for baseball. Laraia could not wait to get out and play as well. He explained, “I’ve been playing and competing against these kids for a while now so it’s nice to get to do it one last time.”

In the top of the fourth inning Reading’s Angel Velez starting off the scoring for the Red Team. He tripled to right field scoring Laraia and Governor Mifflin’s Danny Roesch. Laraia singled, while Roesch reached on a walk.

The Blue Team tied things up in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Fleetwood’s Zachary Sell tripled to score Muhlenberg’s K.J. Blanding. Jeb Kurtz from Daniel Boone then plated Sell on a sacrifice fly.

Things were quiet until the top of the ninth when the Red Team stirred some action. Reading’s Kristian Tirado walked and moved to second on a bunt from Hamburg’s Sean Evangelista. Gaige Brown (Muhlenberg) reached on an error and slid in to second due to defensive indifference. Tanner Vanderslice from Daniel Boone walked to load the bases. The MVP of the night belonged to Reading’s Nomar Torres when he shot a hard liner up the middle to score Tirado and Brown. With Davis at the plate, an error from the catcher allowed Vanderslice to score the third run of the inning, making it 5-2 in favor of the Red Team.

Both teams rotated players in and out so every senior had an opportunity to showcase their skills on the professional ball field.

The game was an important moment for some competitors who may have played their final game of baseball. Others will pursue the sport at a higher level, playing in different divisions of college ball. A few seniors will get the opportunity to play again in the Rip It Baseballtown Charities Showcase happening throughout July, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14, with a double header. Roster Announced For Baseballtown Charities Senior Classic

 

On Monday, July 13th, the Reading Fightin Phils are set to host the Baseballtown Charities Senior Classic for the Berks County 2020 graduating senior class. The R-Phils thank the Baseballtown Charities Senior Classic Sponsors: Abilities in Motion, Deer Country Farm & Lawn and EG Smith Inc.

The game will be played on the professional baseball field at FirstEnergy Stadium. First pitch is set for 6pm with gates opening at 5pm. This event is free for all to attend with stadium food and drink available for purchase.

Every year Baseballtown hosts this senior game to recognize the hard work and dedication of the graduating seniors. This year is extra special. The 2020 senior classes were unable to finish their final high school season due to COVID-19. Now, the R-Phils are pleased to offer them an opportunity for one last memorable moment on the field with their teams!

There will be over 60 seniors from the surrounding area participating. The Blue Team will play as the home team, while the Red Team will serve as the away team.

Baseballtown Charities Showcase Schedule Set For FirstEnergy Stadium

 

(READING, PA) – The Reading Fightin Phils will host the Baseballtown Charities Showcase featuring 12 teams of high school aged baseball players to give them a little part of the season they lost to COVID-19. It is set to kick off at the Double-A ballpark of the Philadelphia Phillies, FirstEnergy Stadium. We thank the Baseballtown Charities Showcase sponsors Abilities in Motion, Deer Country Farm & Lawn, and EG Smith.

Action will begin July 14 and end on August 3. Teams are from Eastern Pennsylvania, drawing from suburban Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Berks County, and Easton.

The majority of teams that enter will play three games versus an opponent of similar skill level on the professional field. Registration benefits Baseballtown Charities to help more kids play baseball and softball.

Admission, as well as parking, is FREE for all fans. R-Phils concessions will be open at all games for fans to enjoy their favorite ballpark food and drink.

Games are primarily scheduled every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday over a three-week period. Game times are 5pm & 7:30 pm, with a two-hour time limit for each game.

There are eight teams that represent areas from Berks County: Reading, Hamburg, The Berg (Muhlenberg), Mays Sandwich Shop (Wilson – West Lawn), Blazers (Daniel Boone – Birdsboro), Exeter, Weiser Scouts (Conrad Weiser), and Shillington Stangs (Governor Mifflin). The Showcase series will begin the day after the 2020 Baseballtown Charities Senior Classic scheduled for Monday, July 13. Over 60 seniors who played for high schools that participated in the BCIAA are scheduled to participate in the Senior Classic.

The R-Phils will also be hosting Rip It Baseballtown Charities showcase for area teams, 13U-19U, on weekends in July and August. Admission is free and stadium food and drink will be available. In addition, the Fightin’s will continue to have their Party with a Purpose nights at the ballpark on upcoming Thursdays.

Free Sport Physicals to take place at Coca-Cola Park

 

St. Luke’s Sports Medicine and District XI will be hosting Free Sport Physicals at Coca-Cola Park on Wednesday, June 24, Thursday, June 25 and Saturday, July 11.

The physicals will take place from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25. The hours for Saturday, July 11 will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Student athletes must have their completed PIAA form with them in order to receive the physical. A parent may stay with their student but must adhere to all guidelines and wear a mask while in attendance.

Those interested in receiving a free physical can register here. Student athletes should enter through the East Gate at Coca-Cola Park. The physicals will be performed under the roof of the concourse. The event will take place rain or shine.

Senators to Donate $5,000 to COVID-19 Relief

The Harrisburg Senators are thrilled to announce that we have raised $5,000 to donate to local nonprofits to aid in COVID-19 relief. Over the last two months the Senators have sold t-shirts, raffled off autographed memorabilia, & sold undated ticket vouchers to raise money to aid in relief.

“We recognize the enormous strain that the COVID-19 pandemic poses to our community and know that every little bit helps,” said Kevin Kulp, Senators President. “Thank you to our fans for bidding on the memorabilia that allowed us to make this donation to help a few of our very important local organizations that are especially challenged during this time.”

IronPigs to host Pet Food Drive on June 6

 

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center are partnering to hold a Pet Food Drive on Saturday, June 6 from 9-11 a.m. at Coca-Cola Park. Guests will need to RSVP to receive pet food. Courtesy of Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, 200 bags of pet food will be provided at no charge for families and pet owners facing hardships. There is a limited supply – a first-come, first-served basis will be based on the RSVP responses.

“COVID-19 has impacted everyone, including pet owners and their pets,” said IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “Pets are a part of many families and this event provides an opportunity for families in need to help feed their pets while reducing their own financial stress.”

Guests need to RSVP and specify which type of food they need clicking here. Guests will be able to select either dog or cat food plus canned or bagged dry food. Based on the type of food needed, guests will be given a specific time frame to arrive at Coca-Cola Park within the 9-11 a.m. pick-up window.

Upon arrival, guests will be directed by IronPigs staff members to the pick-up area outside the West Ballpark entrance. Guests will need to show their confirmation for pick-up and must remain in their vehicle. They are to pop open their trunk for an IronPigs or Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center staff member to place their food. Staff members will be wearing protective masks and following all social distancing guidelines.

RailRiders hosting Family to Family emergency food drive-thru May 27

 

MOOSIC, PA (May 21, 2020) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will serve as the hosts for the Family to Family Emergency Drive-Thru Food Giveaway on May 27. The event is run by the Friends of the Poor in response to the global health pandemic and will take place in the parking lot at PNC Field from 2:30 to 5:30 PM Wednesday.

The Family to Family Food Basket Program and the Friends of the Poor have partnered with the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank for COVID-19 emergency food drive-thrus since late March. These drive-thrus have taken place each Wednesday in different locations around the Scranton area. The emergency drive-thru on May 27 at PNC Field, however, will be the first one located between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and expectations are for over 1,000 vehicles to attend.

All attendees must remain in their vehicles for the safety and well-being of all guests and volunteers. Food bags will be placed directly into each vehicle.

This event is open to the public. Attendees will be asked what their zip code is as well as how many adults, children and elderly live in each household.

IronPigs to celebrate Nurses Week

 

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will celebrate Nurses Week presented by The GIANT Company, Friendly’s of the Lehigh Valley and NJM Insurance, which begins on Wednesday, May 6 and runs through Tuesday, May 12. The celebration will recognize nurses from Lehigh Valley Health Network, St. Luke’s University Health Network and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation, who have been in the front lines battling COVID-19.

“With this week being Nurses Week, we want to celebrate it by honoring nurses in a very fun and special way,” said IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “We hope this week will bring recognition to a special group of people who’ve endured so much throughout this pandemic.”

The IronPigs will be bringing the Pork Race to each facility throughout the week. Medical personnel will be able to see and cheer on their favorite pork racers as they battle it out and see a piece of IronPigs fun outside the confines of Coca-Cola Park.

Lehigh Valley Health Network, St. Luke’s University Health Network and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation will each receive a balloon structure courtesy of BalloonWorks that says, “Thank You” and will be displayed for many to see. The balloon structure is a token of gratitude for each facility. To cap off the celebration for Nurses Week, the video board at Coca-Cola Park will be lit up at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 and streamed live on the IronPigs social media pages. The video board will consist of messages of gratitude to individual nurses. Those who would like to submit names of nurses they know, will be able to do so by commenting on the social media pages.

Throughout the week on social media, nurses will be highlighted on baseball cards. The baseball card will feature information about the nurse as it would about a baseball player. IronPigs staff members and players will be sending their gratitude throughout the week via video messages. Local businesses will be offering discounts for nurses and will be featured as well.

Altoona Curve join Minor League Baseball’s CommUNITY first campaign

 

CURVE, Pa. – The Altoona Curve today announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pigs raise more than $20K to battle COVID-19 

 

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are proud to announce that $21,704 has been raised from their “In This Together” t-shirt and #HopeningDay celebration to help the local battle against COVID-19. Lehigh Valley Health Network and St. Luke’s University Health Network will receive 100% of the proceeds.

“We are grateful to the entire Lehigh Valley for their outstanding support and coming together to help raise funds to fight this dreadful disease”, said IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “Lehigh Valley Health Network and St. Luke’s University Health Network have both been tremendous partners and do incredible work within our community. We’re both proud and thankful to help fund their efforts and support their employees on the front lines of this battle.”

The ”In This Together” t-shirt campaign was the initial response to the battle against COVID-19 and to bring awareness throughout the community. Over the two-week campaign, the IronPigs sold over 1500 t-shirts and raised $19,254.04. T-shirts were purchased throughout the Lehigh Valley and the state of Pennsylvania but were also sold in 18 other states such as: New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Maine, Arizona, Colorado, West Virginia, Rhode Island and Virginia.

#Hopening Day was a weeklong celebration of support of the community and the IronPigs, culminating a televised two-day, two-game series on WFMZ-TV Channel 69 and Service Electric TV2 Sports. The goal was to bring additional awareness and support to fight against COVID-19. A GoFundMe fundraiser courtesy of IronPigs Charities raised $820 throughout the two-day, two-game series.

Valley Prep Meal Prep’s “Eat like a PIG” promotion – a $15 home-delivered ballpark meal package that featured a hot dog, popcorn, Coca-Cola beverage and Philly Pretzel rivets – raised $1,630. The ballpark meal package was sold throughout the Lehigh Valley and areas around the region.

CommUNITY First: SWB partners with MiLB

MOOSIC, PA (April 28, 2020) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have announced that they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The local benefactor is the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank in Pittston.

RailRiders fans are encouraged to visit MiLB.com/CommUNITYFirst through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the NEPA community. For every $10 donated, the RailRiders will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to a local hero of the pandemic.

“In these trying times, we should do what we can to help those in need around us,” said John Adams, the RailRiders Team President. “Minor League Baseball, as an industry, has always done a great job in community-driven events and focused efforts like this. Donations to this cause will help benefit our region immensely. While we are certainly aware that times are tough financially, this is a tremendous way for those who can donate to make an impact.”

School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.

In response, contributions from RailRiders fans and Minor League Baseball will help ensure families and individuals across the country most impacted by the pandemic are fed and cared for during these uncertain times.
