Pelicans to host first-annual charity fishing derby

March 14, 2019

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (MARCH 14, 2019) – On Monday, May 6, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, in conjunction with Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters and Wahoo’s Fish House, will hold the first-annual Pelicans Community Fund Fishing Derby. All funds raised through the event will benefit the Pelicans Community Fund, which annually supports over 200 local charities. Since the initiation of the fund in 2013, the Pelicans have given back at least $250,000 per year to the Grand Strand for a total of more than $2.2 million.

A limited number of charters are available for this exclusive event. Entry into the derby is $1,200 and includes a four-hour fishing trip for four people, an after-party at Wahoo’s Fish House, breakfast, an event shirt and a gift bag. A limited number of after-party passes will be released at a later date.

“Even without a marquee fundraising event, the Pelicans Community Fund has allowed us to give back a substantial amount to the Grand Strand area,” stated Pelicans General Manager Ryan Moore. “While $2.2 million in six years is great, we want to do more. A signature event such as the Pelicans Community Fund Fishing Derby will allow us to do just that. Additionally, it’s a really unique event that we believe will be a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

Those wishing to participate in the event can reserve a spot by calling the Pelicans Front Office at 843-918-6000.

The Pelicans’ 2019 season kicks off on April 4 against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Season tickets are available now. For more information or to purchase tickets visit myrtlebeachpelicans.com or call 843-918-6000.

RiverDogs, Boeing Announce Joint Partnership to Recognize Military Members and Families

February 26, 2019

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Boeing has been named a 20/20 Partner of the Charleston RiverDogs, making the world’s largest aerospace company one of a group of partners committed to the vision of RiverDogs baseball and Joe Riley Park for the future.

Accompanying Budweiser and MUSC Health as a 20/20 partner, Boeing joins the Charleston club in strengthening the relationship between strong community-minded businesses and the RiverDogs. Boeing’s connection with the RiverDogs will offer several opportunities to showcase both organizations’ commitment to recognize, honor, and support military and veteran personnel and their families.

“The RiverDogs remain steadfast in our efforts to honor the military in the Lowcountry and bring awareness to the effort and sacrifice of veterans. We are thrilled to be partnering with Boeing to further these initiatives,” said Dave Echols, President and General Manager of the Charleston RiverDogs.

“Veterans and their families are a vital part of our company, our community, and our country. We are thrilled to partner with the Charleston RiverDogs to thank our veterans for their service and celebrate their contributions with America’s favorite pastime,” said Ashley Holbrook, Director of National Strategy and Engagement, Government Operations, Boeing South Carolina.

Exhibiting Boeing and the RiverDogs’ commitment to honoring the armed forces, a new, single, black seat, the POW/MIA “Chair of Honor,” will be a permanent fixture at The Joe all season long. The RiverDogs will host a dedication ceremony prior to the first pitch of the second game of the season on Friday, April 12.

Along with honoring the memory of past service members, Boeing will join forces with the RiverDogs in hosting three Military Appreciation Nights to honor active and retired military members in the local community on Saturday, May 25, Monday, July 1, and Friday, August 2. In conjunction with Boeing, the RiverDogs will offer complementary tickets to all active and retired service members and their families for these special event games.

Not just limited to three home dates throughout the season, RiverDogs players and staff will also wear specialty red jerseys at each Friday home game, expressing their support of the armed forces. As part of Red Shirt Fridays, fans wearing a red shirt may receive $1 off regular ticket pricing at the box office with the option to donate that dollar back to support various veteran’s non-profit groups in the Lowcountry. During an inning break at every Friday home game, a deployed military serviceman, servicewoman – – or veteran unable to attend the game – will be called and thanked by all in attendance for their service.

At each of the RiverDogs’ 70 home tilts during the year, Boeing will help present the “Hero of the Game,” recognizing an outstanding veteran while giving the special guest and their family a VIP treatment at the ballpark. As the Hero of the Game, honorees and their families are treated to the Riley Park Club experience, recognized on the video board and through public address with a description of their contributions to our country. Along with honoring one “Hero of the Game,” there will be a special in-game recognition, asking all veterans in attendance to stand at each of the RiverDogs’ home contests during the year.

For further details about the RiverDogs and Boeing’s military appreciation programs, how to nominate a veteran to be honored at a game this season, and complementary military tickets available throughout the year, visit the RiverDogs’ Military homepage at riverdogs.com/military.

On the heels of their second straight year eclipsing 300,000 fans through the turnstiles, the RiverDogs have already begun preparations for another year down at The Joe. RiverDogs season tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are now available for the 2019 campaign by contacting the RiverDogs front office at 843-577-3647 (DOGS). The Drive has assisted us in honoring all GCS employees through our employee appreciation night, raised the profile of teachers through the Teach864 Campaign, helped educate our families about careers in health and manufacturing, supported academic success in GCS student-athletes, and participated in our AdvancED accreditation review.

“Together, we have co-presented to groups such as TransformSC on the value of public-private partnerships. In short, the Drive has thrown its name recognition and brand value behind our public schools and we are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our cause.”

Since 2006, more than 400,000 fans a year have been welcomed to Fluor Field for both Drive games and additional community events. In 2017, the Drive was honored with the prestigious John H. Johnson President’s Award, presented by Minor League Baseball and given to “the total baseball franchise,” based on contributions to baseball in the community, promotion of the baseball industry, financial stability and contributions to league stability. 80 Drive alumni have gone on to play at the major-league level, 13 of which were members of the Red Sox 2013 World Series Championship Team.

Pelicans Announce Ticket Fundraiser for Local Flood Victims

October 10, 2018

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (October 12, 2018) – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have partnered with WPDE News 15 and The Sun News on a ticket sales fundraiser to benefit local flood victims. Tickets for Saturday, April 6 on are on sale now at myrtlebeachpelicans.com.  A portion of all online tickets purchased using the promo code “HELP” will benefit the Waccamaw Community Foundation. Tickets for the game will be on sale through the month of October.

“Our area has experienced unprecedented levels of flooding. As a member of the Grand Strand community we want to help, and a ticket fundraiser is one of our more effective ways of generating funds for this cause,” stated Pelicans General Manager Ryan Moore. “This is the first time we have opened single game tickets sales so far in advance. In doing so, it allows us to generate much needed dollars now for the Waccamaw Community Foundation.”

In recognition of his efforts throughout not only Hurricane Florence and her flooding, but during any weather related event, the Pelicans will honor WPDE Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski with his very own bobblehead. The bobblehead will be distributed along with the Community Heroes Card Set to the first 1,000 fans through the gates on April 6.

“Ed is a long-standing member of this community,” said Moore. “His wealth of knowledge and straight forward dissemination of the facts during weather events is what makes him such a reliable source. This community is fortunate to have such a dedicated citizen and we are delighted to honor him in this way.”

In addition to the fundraiser and bobblehead giveaway, the Pelicans will be highlighting members of the community who have gone above and beyond to help those in need. The club is designing a Community Heroes Card Set that will be given away to the first 1,000 fans on April 6. If you know someone who helped you, a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger during Hurricane Florence and the subsequent flooding the Pelicans ask that you submit their name and story at myrtlebeachpelicans.com  for a chance to be included in the Community Heroes Card Set.

To purchase tickets visit myrtlebeachpelicans.com/help. For more information please call the Pelicans Front Office at 843-918-6000.
