Hooks Roll Out 2020 Spring High School Schedule

CORPUS CHRISTI – The full slate of games at Whataburger Field featuring high school baseball teams from the Coastal Bend region was announced Monday.

A total of 14 games are on tap for area schools playing at the home of the Corpus Christi Hooks, including Veterans Memorial (No. 2 in 5A) and reigning TAPPS state semifinalist Incarnate Word Academy as highlights on the schedule.

Tickets for all games are priced at $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for students and free for children under four. Parking at the stadium will be $5.

High school general admission seating goes on sale at the Whataburger Field Box Office each game date at 9 a.m. Make gameday purchases by phone at 361-561-HOOK (4665).

Several of the student-athletes set to play at Whataburger Field were named South Texas Preseason all-stars, who will be honored Thursday, January 30 at the annual Winter Banquet. Tickets to the event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ortiz Center, are on sale now.

The 2020 amateur slate at Whataburger Field kicks off with the Kleberg Bank College Classic, set for February 21-23. The tournament features Kansas State, Utah, Missouri and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The 16th season of Hooks Baseball begins Thursday, April 9 at Whataburger Field against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Click here to learn more about season memberships.

Express, RS3 to Host Job Fair for 2020 Gameday and Concessions Staff

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Have you dreamed of working at Dell Diamond? The Round Rock Express, RS3 Strategic Hospitality and RS3 Turf are hiring gameday and concessions staff for the upcoming 2020 season! The organizations will host a job fair on Saturday, February 15 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. inside the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond.

Chihuahuas Cheer and Dance Classic Registration Now Open

EL PASO – January 6, 2020 – Leg Up Entertainment and Superior Festivals is proud to present the Chihuahuas Cheer and Dance Classic to be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Southwest University Park!

Teams from the southwest region are invited to participate! The dance competition is slated for 8:30 a.m. with the cheer portion scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Registration closes on February 14, 2020 and payment deadline is February 21, 2020.

Registration fees are as follows:

DANCE (Groups and Solo):
$150 per team (seven or more)
$150 per ensemble
$150 per exhibition
$50 per solo routine

CHEER (Groups and Solo):
$150 per team
$50 per solo
$100 per exhibition

TIME LIMITS
Team or Rec – Rules & Restrictions
• Each team will perform a choreographed routine not to exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds (150 seconds).
• Up to 90 seconds of the routine may be performed to music 60 seconds must equal cheer.
• No voice-overs or words may be recorded to make the team’s vocal projection sound louder.

All Star – Rules & Restrictions
• Each team will perform a choreographed routine not to exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds (150 seconds).
• Music is required for all of the routine.
• A .5 penalty will be assessed if music is not used for the entire routine.

BEST CHEERLEADER – RULES & RESTRICTIONS
• Each participant will perform for a maximum of 90 seconds and in the following order: three consecutive jumps, tumbling pass, and a cheer.
• Music IS NOT allowed.
• A partner may not be used during the performance.
• Judging is based on voice projection, showmanship, cheer execution, spirit, and ability in the areas of jumps and tumbling, as well as overall impression.
• There will be a .5 penalty if more than five tricks are performed in your cheer and a separate penalty if the routine exceeds the time limit.

TOP STUNT – RULES & RESTRICTIONS
• Groups of no more than four (4) cheerleaders. May have only one (1) male per group.
• Participants must be 9-12th grade and must be from the same squad/school/gym.
• Groups will have no more than 45 seconds to perform their stunt sequence.
• Each group must have at least one (1) extended stunt from a full down.
• Group will be dged on difficulty, execution, overall technique, and overall performance.

OVERALL GENERAL RULES
• All teams will follow standard competition and safety guidelines as printed on the waiver form.
• To ensure the competition runs as efficiently as possible, no teams will be allowed to change their performance order. Additionally, there will be no division changes allowed after the registration deadline. No refunds will be given once a team is registered.
• Before the day of competition, all participants must complete the Release and Waiver Form. This MUST be signed by Parent or Legal Guardian for the participant to be able to perform. All Participant forms must be given to the Registration Table upon checking into the competition.

COMPETITION SPECTATORS
Friends and families are more than welcome to watch the cheer & dance competition. Tickets will be sold through the Southwest University Park Box Office and can be purchased before and on the day of competition. Advanced ticket purchase is suggested. Click here to purchase.

REFUND POLICY
A full refund will be made for any registered event up to the designated cancellation deadline. After the designated deadline, there will be no refund and arrangements for full payment will need to be made. If payment is not made by the designated deadline, responsible parties will need to arrange for payment ASAP.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations of any registered event must be made in writing to Superior Festivals by the designated registration deadline.

Southwest University Park to Hold Job Fair for 2020 Gameday and Event Staff

EL PASO – December 19, 2019 – Southwest University Park, home of the Chihuahuas and Locomotive, will host its 2020 job fair in a two-day event starting on Tuesday, January 14th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and concluding on Wednesday, January 15th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the WestStar Club at Southwest University Park.

Chihuahuas Team with El Paso Electric to Host Career Prep Series for High School Students

EL PASO – November 4, 2019 – The El Paso Chihuahuas have teamed with El Paso Electric to offer high school students a look into the sports industry. The El Paso Chihuahuas Career Prep Program presented by El Paso Electric gives students a chance to learn about some of the careers within the sports industry outside of the playing field.

The career prep program, which take place at Southwest University Park, provides students with an inside look into the Chihuahuas organization. The one-day program is a classroom-style setting with instruction from Chihuahuas front office employees. It is designed for students interested in business, marketing, operations or other careers in the sports industry.

Throughout the day-long program, students will practice problem solving skills, create a in-game promotion, and get an inside understanding of the sports industry.

“It is a privilege to partner with El Paso Electric to provide such an incredible learning opportunity for high school students in our region,” said MountainStar Sports Group Sr. Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor. “We all want these students to start looking for careers they will love.”

The program aims to prepare students who attend with the skills and knowledge for continuing education and the importance of internships and experience in the industry in an effort to prepare them for future success.

“El Paso Electric is a firm believer in the importance and value internships can have on a student’s education and career choice, which is why the Company offers various internship opportunities, including high school students in the region,” shares El Paso Electric Interim CEO Adrian J. The Chihuahuas Career Prep Program presented by El Paso Electric is open to high school students who are participating in a business and/or marketing class. Public Invited to Halloween with the Hooks on October 24

CORPUS CHRISTI – Get into the spooky spirit by attending the sixth annual Halloween with the Hooks, presented by H-E-B, on Thursday, October 24 at Whataburger Field from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

Trick-or-treaters can enjoy candy stops around the stadium concourse. The festivities also include hayrides on the field, activity tables, a costume contest, a pumpkin patch photo opportunity, a “photo BOOth,” inflatables and carnival games. Halloween-themed movies will be played on the video board throughout the evening.

Attending guests are encouraged to donate a canned food item for the Coastal Bend Food Bank, which has received more than 400 pounds of food in past years.

Ballpark food, soda and beer will be available for purchase.

Santa Teresa High School Recipient of 2019 Howdy’s Field of Dreams

EL PASO – February 28, 2019 – The El Paso Chihuahuas and Howdy’s are proud to announce that Santa Teresa High School is the recipient of the 2019 Howdy’s Field of Dreams, a program designed to help renovate a baseball facility in need of repair in the southwest region.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5 p.m. on the high school’s baseball field. The ceremony will precede the in-state rivalry game between Santa Teresa and Gadsden High School.

“We are blessed and fortunate to be selected as this year’s recipient of the Howdy’s Field of Dreams,” said Santa Teresa Varsity Baseball Coach Gil Bailon. “Our team has been together for several years and we all cannot wait to step onto this incredible new field this year and many years in the future.”

Representatives from Howdy’s, the El Paso Chihuahuas, including Chico, and members of the Warriors’ baseball team will be in attendance.

“Howdy’s is proud to support the communities we serve, especially through our ongoing support to the ‘Field of Dreams Project’ with the El Paso Chihuahuas. Over the past five years, it has been rewarding to watch the high school fields at Irvin, Jefferson, Bel Air, Andress and the Ernie Rascon Memorial Field in Anthony come to life,” said VJ Smith, Corporate Affairs, Marathon Petroleum. “We are proud to be a part of these projects and it gives Howdy’s great pleasure to see the new field at Santa Teresa High School complete.”

“It is an honor to work with a company like Howdy’s who sees the importance of community investment,” said MountainStar Sports Group Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor. “Coach Bailon and Santa Teresa are perfect recipients for this project as there was a need to improve their field, their desire to perpetuate it, and their sincere appreciation to be selected.”

The renovations to the field began on February 11, 2019 and were completed by the Chihuahuas grounds crew. The renovations included the installation of 8,000 square feet of new sod, laser grading the infield clay, and the addition of new clay in the batters boxes and pitcher’s mound.

The Field of Dreams project completed its sixth year.

Toy drive leads Foundation’s holiday initiatives

With the holiday season underway, the RoughRiders Foundation continues to be an active supporter of local non-profit organizations in Frisco and surrounding areas.

On Friday, December 7, the foundation is hosting its annual toy drive in partnership with Toys For Tots during the RoughRiders Winter Wonderland event. The drive is one of the Foundation’s biggest events each year, generating boxes full of toys for kids in need during the holidays. Fans can donate new, unwrapped toys at the home plate gate from 5-10 pm. The event will also include live updates from the ballpark on FOX4.

“The holidays are such a great time to give back and we’re doing our best to assist in every way we can,” said Breon Dennis, Executive Director of the RoughRiders Foundation. “We’re especially excited about the toy drive and thank our great fans in advance for their generous donations.”

In addition to the toy drive, RoughRiders players and staff have been busy spreading holiday cheer the last few weeks by volunteering at local schools, food banks, and animal shelters. The foundation also staged a silent auction on November 27 as part of “Giving Tuesday” to help fund future initiatives with community partners.

Hooks and BUSH’S® Beans Donate to Driscoll Children’s Hospital

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Corpus Christi Hooks, in partnership with BUSH’S® Beans, announced today they will provide a donation to Driscoll Children’s Hospital as part of #GivingTuesday, a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropic events at the start of the holiday season, on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Since its inaugural year in 2012, Giving Tuesday has been a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the popular shopping holidays Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the event kicks off the giving season each year by inspiring people to give back.

This past season, first baseman Taylor Jones was named the BUSH’S Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2018 Texas League All-Star Game in Midland. In addition to the award, BUSH’S and the Hooks will contribute to the local community by providing a monetary donation to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

“Driscoll Children’s Hospital ensures the youth of South Texas have access to the best medical care available,” Hooks General Manager Wes Weigle said. “We are always delighted to aid them in this mission. I’d like to thank Taylor Jones for coming up with that big swing, and BUSH’S Beans for helping us make an impact in the Coastal Bend.”

BUSH’S Beans sponsored 11 All-Star Game MVP awards throughout Minor League Baseball this summer. Each BUSH’S MVP Award recipient’s team will be donating to a local charitable organization of the team’s choosing.

Chihuahuas & Chick-fil-A to Partner for Paws for Presents Toy Drive

Paws for Presents presented by Chick-fil-A will benefit the Child Crisis Center of El Paso & Jardin de los Niños in Las Cruces

EL PASO – November 27, 2018 -The El Paso Chihuahuas and area Chick-fil-A restaurants present “Paws for Presents”, a holiday toy drive assisting the Child Crisis Center of El Paso and Jardin de los Niños in Las Cruces.

The drive begins today, Tuesday, November 27th and continues through Saturday, December 15th. The Chihuahuas and Chick-fil-A request all gifts be new and not gift wrapped for children up to the age of 12.

“The Chihuahuas are proud to partner with Chick-fil-A on this special toy drive to help give kids in our region a smile and some toys during the holidays,” said MountainStar Sports Group Senior Vice President and Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor.

Donations can be dropped off at any of the seven El Paso Chick-fil-A locations, the three Chick-fil-A locations in Las Cruces or the Chihuahuas Team Shop. The Team Shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“We hope the El Paso and Las Cruces communities will come out and support the Paws for Presents Toy Drive so that we can bring some holiday cheer to those who are going through difficult times,” said Chick-Fil-A Operator Edgar Ortega. “In Chick-fil-A, our goal is to inspire people to take good care of each other. We look forward to seeing the joy on the faces of the people who are touched by our community’s generosity.”

Any monetary donations can be made at the Chihuahuas Team Shop located at Southwest University Park. Monetary donations will not be accepted at Chick-fil-A locations.

The Child Crisis Center was opened in 1980 and serves to “protect children from abuse and neglect by providing shelter, advocacy and family support services,” according to the website.

Jardin de los Niños opened in 1995 and serves to provide education, intervention and services to homeless or near homeless children.

Riders support numerous local non-profits in October

November 6, 2018

FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 6, 2018) – Though the 2018 baseball season has ended, the RoughRiders Foundation stayed extremely productive during the month of October.

“There’s no offseason when it comes to the work we do with the RoughRiders Foundation,” said Breon Dennis, Executive Director of the RoughRiders Foundation. “We are constantly seeking ways to get involved with the great people of North Texas and our body of work in October was no exception.”

Below is a recap of the Foundation’s activity in October:

* Casino Night (October 13): The Foundation raised more than $6,000 at its annual VIP event thanks to the generous support of the team’s Founder’s members, suiteholders and corporate partners.
* Frisco Family Services (October 16): Riders staff helped sort through donated items and assisted in restocking shelves at the facility.

* StreetSide Showers (October 17): Staff made and distributed hygiene kits, while also helping pass out lunches.

* RoughRiders Baseball Academy (October 21): During the latest clinic for kids, Halloween candy was collected and donated to Soldier’s Angels Treats for Troops.
* National Breast Cancer Foundation (October 24): Riders employees helped make HOPE kits that will be sent out to patients who are battling breast cancer.

* RoughRiders Fall Festival (October 27): More than 2,000 cans of food were collected and donated to North Texas Food Bank as part of the team’s annual event.

In addition to its involvement in community activities, the RoughRiders also hosted the following events to help support various non-profit organizations:

* Red River Celebrity Softball Game (October 4), benefitting the Toby Keith Foundation, the Roger Clemens Foundation and the Just Keep Livin Foundation.
* The Ticket Dinger Derby (October 26), benefitting Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

* Light The Night Walk (October 28), supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

October 25 at Whataburger Field: Halloween with the Hooks

October 10, 2018

CORPUS CHRISTI – Join us for the fifth annual Halloween with the Hooks Celebration, presented by Ashley Homestore, on Thursday, October 25 at Whataburger Field. The evening’s entertainment will run from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Admission to the event is free. Guests are encouraged to donate a canned food item for the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

Trick-or-treaters will enjoy candy-stops throughout the ballpark. The festivities also include activity tables, costume contest, pumpkin patch photo opportunity, a “photo BOOth,” hayrides, inflatables, and carnival games.

Halloween-themed movies will be played on the video board well into the evening. Selections come from the Scooby-Doo and Peanuts archives.

Last year’s event netted the Coastal Bend Food Bank 437 pounds of food.

Riders Foundation busy in community during August

September 12, 2018

FRISCO, Texas (Sept. 12, 2018) – The RoughRiders Foundation logged more than 200 volunteer hours during the month of August, registering another busy month working with the North Texas community.

“Each month, it seems we take another step forward and that was certainly the case in August,” said Breon Dennis, Executive Director of the RoughRiders Foundation. “It gives me immense pride to see our players and staff contribute to this great community as much as they have been lately.

Here’s a full breakdown of how the Riders got involved in the community throughout August.

* Play Ball event (August 5): In conjunction with Minor League Baseball, Riders catcher Jose Trevino and Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney helped run a clinic for kids, encouraging them to maintain an active lifestyle.

* Habit for Humanity (August 8): Staff members painted the exterior of a home and assisted with other construction projects.

* Frisco Fastpacs (August 15): Volunteers sorted and inventoried more than 10,000 goods to be packaged and sent to schools throughout Frisco ISD.

* Children’s Health visit (August 17): Riders President & General Manager Andy Milovich, and players Wes Benjamin, Tyler Davis, Ryne Slack and Jose Trevino spent the morning playing with kids at Children’s Medical Center’s Dallas campus.

* Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery (August 21): Riders representatives helped clean headstones throughout the complex to benefit veterans and their families

* Keeper of the Game clinic (August 25): Riders players Tyler Davis and Ryne Slack helped with the Keeper of the Game Foundation’s special needs clinic at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

* Children’s Health visit (August 29): Riders players Wes Benjamin, Tyler Davis and Jose Trevino spent their morning with kids at the Children’s Medical Center campus in Plano.

RoughRiders Foundation volunteers at DFW National Cemetery

July 3, 2018

FRISCO, Texas (July 3, 2018) – Frisco RoughRiders pitcher Tyler Davis and members of the RoughRiders Foundation spent Monday morning volunteering at the DFW National Cemetery.

“I, personally, think it was a great experience,” Davis said. “I saw it as a way for me to be able to go out there and show respect to the people who have given a lot for our country; past, present and future.”

The group assisted in the cleaning of headstones, a process which is necessary four times a year to help maintain the nearly 50,000 headstones on the site. With a limited number of regular employees, the DFW National Cemetery values volunteer groups like the RoughRiders to assist in keeping the cemetery in good shape.

“Without the support and time the Frisco RoughRiders and others, we could not provide the honorable and serene resting place our Veterans deserve,” Cemetery Director Larry Williams said. “What may not be thought of is this: the Frisco RoughRiders are honoring America’s Heroes with the dedication and hard work they provide here and is deeply appreciated, not only by the staff, but the families of the 59,500 resting here.”

Strikeout Cancer Weekend takes center stage in coming homestand

FRISCO, Texas (May 24, 2018) – The return of Strikeout Cancer Weekend garners the spotlight as part of the coming six-game homestand for the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Rangers, which runs from Tuesday, May 29 until Sunday, June 3 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

As part of the franchise’s annual Strikeout Cancer Weekend, which runs from Friday, June 1-Sunday, June 3, the Riders are dedicating the three-game stretch to raising awareness and funds in the battle against cancer. Each night, the Riders will partner with a different cancer-fighting non-profit organization to spotlight their efforts and aid their mission: the National Breast Cancer Foundation (Friday), Rumble Against Cancer (Saturday) and Team Holly (Sunday).

The team will don special Strikeout Cancer uniforms for all three games, which will be auctioned throughout the weekend to benefit the three partnering non-profits. Plus, the first 2,000 fans through the gates at each game will receive a free Riders Strikeout Cancer wristband.

In addition to the special weekend, the homestand also features the return of $1 beer with Thirsty Thursday and the Deep Ellum Brewing Party @ The Yard on Thursday, May 31. For just $10, fans 21 and older can join the BIGGEST party in North Texas and enjoy great drink specials, tailgate games, rotating food trucks, non-stop music and a whole lot more. Plus, for just $29, partygoers can enhance their experience by taking it in from the world-famous Choctaw Lazy River.

Here’s a full breakdown of what to expect this homestand at Dr Pepper Ballpark:

Tuesday, May 29 vs. Northwest Arkansas (Royals), 7:05 p.m.
