ECMC to Administer COVID-19 Vaccine at Sahlen Field

Erie County Medical Center Corporation caregivers will staff a pop-up vaccine site outside Sahlen Field prior to the upcoming Toronto Blue Jay games on June 1st and June 2nd. The site will administer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Anyone who gets vaccinated at the site will receive a voucher for a free ticket to a 2022 Buffalo Bisons game and will also be eligible for a Toronto Blue Jays raffle for prizes that include: four tickets to a Blue Jays-Yankees game in Buffalo, three player-autographed baseballs and a player-autographed jersey.

Statement: New Jersey’s MiLB Teams to Host Vaccination Clinics at Ballparks This Summer

The BlueClaws, Trenton Thunder, and Somerset Patriots will partner with RWJBarnabas Health on vaccination clinics this summer at each team’s respective ballparks. The teams released this joint statement.

New Jersey’s three Minor League Baseball teams are honored to partner with RWJBarnabas Health on vaccination clinics at our ballparks this summer. Part of being at the front porch of our respective communities is working closely with those in position to best keep our communities safe.

“We are delighted to work with our Minor League Baseball partners to provide COVID-19 vaccinations at their ballparks,” said Margie Heller, Vice President, Strategic Global Partnerships at RWJBarnabas Health. “These community-based vaccination clinics are great way for us to offer these lifesaving vaccines in a fun environment to those who are interested.”

Our three vaccination clinics will help lessen the impact of COVID-19, and additionally provide another benefit – an enjoyable night out at the ballpark with families and friends.

Aces to Host “Home Run for Life” Ceremony on May 28

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces will host their first Saint Mary’s “Home Run for Life” ceremony of 2021, featuring Amanda Petch, a cervical cancer survivor,on Friday, May 28 when the Aces take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 6:35 p.m. PT at Greater Nevada Field.

Since 2014, the Aces and Saint Mary’s have partnered to showcase the “Home Run for Life” program. Once a month, a brave individual in the Northern Nevada community is honored by taking a ceremonial trip around the bases with each team lining the baselines. The ceremony symbolizes the end of a battle against adversity. Honored individuals of the run have overcome a significant medical event in their life with the help of Saint Mary’s personnel.

Amanda Petch embodies the true sentiment of what it means to be a warrior, defying all odds and coming out victorious in her battle against cervical cancer.

In early 2020, Amanda and her husband found out they were expecting their first child. Like any parent, both were overcome with joy and excitement to welcome their newborn. During their first ultrasound appointment, regular testing was done as well as their first sight at the soon-to-be baby boy.

Unfortunately, a moment of happy feelings quickly turned “hopeless and broken” as her doctor found a lump on her cervix that turned out to be cancerous. Add in the tumultuous circumstances surrounding COVID-19 on top of the pregnancy and the lump, the future was unknown.

With a great support team from her family, friends, and prayer warriors from around the country, Amanda battled through all the curveballs thrown her way. She delivered her healthy son six weeks early through a c-section and endured over 30 combined rounds of chemotherapy en route to her victory.

On April 21, 2021, Amanda officially took down cancer after a year-long battle when her final scans showed no signs.

Amanda will round the bases commemorating her “Home Run for Life” in the middle of the second inning on Friday night. The Reno Aces and the Tacoma Rainiers players and staff will be lined up at a 12-foot distance to greet her as she makes her way toward home plate.

Syracuse Mets to host first virtual Education Day in MiLB History

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Mets are excited to announce details for a virtual Education Day that will take place on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. The game against the Worcester Red Sox was originally scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start and has been officially changed to a noon start to accommodate the educational element.

The Syracuse Mets game will be available on the day of the game for all students via a free broadcast link on syracusemets.com. Classes can participate in school as a group, or students can join on the link as they are home in remote learning environments. Educational components will be built into the broadcast by John Dalgety, a teacher from the Phoenix (NY) School District that has helped the Mets incorporate more education components into Education Day over the years. Dalgety worked closely with Shaun Moriarty, a teacher from the Worcester School system, who is coordinating the effort to get students from Massachusetts involved.

“Education Day is a time-honored tradition across the minor leagues, and we wanted to find a way for this to continue to happen in this time of COVID-19,” said Syracuse Mets General Manager Jason Smorol. “This was an idea presented to us by our creative teachers in CNY, so we asked for permission, and with support from MLB, we will be able to let students participate in the fun of Education Day from home and school.”

Approvals for game time changes were provided by the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Major League Baseball.

Tickets for home Syracuse Mets games in June will go on sale May 28th at 10 a.m. Fans can purchase tickets for virtual Education Day or other June games at the Onondaga Coach Ticket Office at NBT Bank Stadium or over the phone at 315-474-7833 during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or online anytime at syracusemets.com.

Youth Baseball Camps are back at Coca-Cola Park

Learn from the professionals this summer at Coca-Cola park

Allentown, Pennsylvania (27 May 2021) – Signups are now underway for the 2021 Youth Baseball Camp presented by Capital BlueCross! Make sure to sign up early because each camp is limited to 110 children and each is expected to sell out!

The camps will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for all days of the session. Boys and girls of all skill levels will have the chance to learn baseball and fundamentals from future stars of the Philadelphia Phillies. Each day, members of the IronPigs coaching staff and select IronPigs players will teach the basics of the game and help all campers become better ballplayers!

2021 Camp Dates:

Camp #1 ($165/camper): Ages 7-8 only (July 20-22)

Camp #2 ($165/camper): Ages 9-10 only (August 3-5)

Camp #3 ($165/camper): Ages 11-13 only (August 24-26)

Missions and Circle K Announce Partnership with San Antonio Food Bank

Will Host Five Food Drives During 2021 Season

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions baseball club and Circle K are partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank to host food drives at Nelson Wolff Stadium this summer to provide aid to the San Antonio community hit so hard during the Covid-19 pandemic.

There will be five different Circle K and San Antonio Missions food drives being held at Nelson Wolff Stadium with five different themes.

The first food drive will occur on Friday, June 18th. The theme will be “Most Important Meal” food drive. Featured items for this drive include breakfast items like cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, boxed juices, and cereal bars.

The second food drive will occur on Saturday, July 10th. The theme will be “Summer Staples” food drive. Featured items for this drive include Hamburger Helper, canned meats, rice and beans, and soups.

The third food drive will occur on Saturday, August 7th. The theme will be “Dog Days” food drive. Featured items for this drive will be pet food items and treats for dogs and cats.

The fourth food drive will occur on Thursday, August 26th. The theme will be “Back to School Lunch Box” food drive. Featured items for this drive include peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, Manwich, and boxed crackers.

The fifth food drive will occur on Saturday, September 18th. The theme for this drive will be “Oh Baby It’s A Food Drive.” Featured items for this drive include baby food, diapers, and wipes.

For each food drive, there will be a red San Antonio Food Bank donation bins at Nelson Wolff Stadium. The Missions will be offering reserved seat tickets to a future Missions game for all donations.

Prior to the start of the pandemic, the San Antonio Food Bank was serving approximately 58,000 people per week in our 16 county service area. Due to the economic fall out of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are now serving 125,000 people per week. More than 1 in 4 children in San Antonio is at risk for hunger and 45,000 military members have received food assistance since the start of the pandemic. Today our community’s need is more than double what it was in February 2020. At the same time, our capacity to host volunteers has been cut in half from 1,000 per week to 500 per week, in order to allow for social distancing in our shifts.

The need for food, volunteers and cash donations has never been greater than this past year, but the San Antonio community has continued to rally together to support one another. Cutters & UPMC Partner to Offer COVID-19 Vaccinations to Fans

UPMC and the Williamsport Crosscutters are partnering to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to fans at Cutters games on Wednesday, June 2 and Saturday, June 5 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. Fans who receive their shot at the ballpark will receive a coupon for a free hot dog and soft drink to enjoy during the game.

“UPMC’s partnership with the Williamsport Crosscutters is a great example of how we are trying to meet people where they are to get vaccinated,” said Heather Stafford, clinical director of Infection Prevention and Control. “These family events are opportunities to reach our younger community members, now that anyone 12 years of age and older have been approved by the FDA for Pfizer vaccination.”

Crosscutters fans will be greeted by UPMC’s mobile bus outside the gate. Fans will have the chance to receive the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine or their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine before the game. Those who receive the Pfizer vaccine will be scheduled for their second dose three weeks later at the UPMC vaccination clinic at 2401 Reach Rd., Williamsport.

Cutters Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations Gabe Sinicropi stated, “The Crosscutters are delighted to be able to offer this important service to our fans through our Presenting Partner, UPMC. It’s our sincere hope that fans age 12 and over who have yet to be vaccinated take advantage of this special opportunity.”

For fans who are still on the fence about the vaccine, UPMC staff will be available and happy to have informed conversations about the benefits of vaccination. Those who decide to get the vaccine during the game will be allowed to exit and reenter the ballpark without issue.

Dragons to Recognize “Community All-Stars” Recipient During Game on May 27

Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize Bogg Ministries as a “Community All-Stars” recipient during a special inning break of the Dragons game on Thursday, May 27th against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Day Air Ballpark. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.

The Dragons Community All-Stars Program honors individuals who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of life in the Miami Valley. They could be firefighters or police officers, doctors or good Samaritans. It could be a first responder or a volunteer. The Dragons are going to highlight these Community All-Stars at games all summer long.

Bogg Ministries fights food insecurity, which is a reality for more than 100,000 people in the Dayton area. Their mission is to provide needy Daytonians with food, clothing, and other essential items to help them sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Bogg Ministries was founded in 2010 by Jason Barton and Jason Johnson after the two discussed the need for food assistance in Dayton. The two started by going directly to the homes of those who needed assistance. What they found at most homes they visited, was that their neighbors needed assistance as well. Because of that need, they grew the idea of creating community events to maximize their reach.

Bogg went from feeding four families per week to more than 40,000 people in one year with community wide events held at local parks and schools. Each year, Bogg distributes 1.5 million pounds of food to event attendees.

The food is tracked and distributed through mobile food pantries, called Mobile Meals, which allow people to sort through a variety of options, providing the dignity of grocery shopping. Volunteers pack and sort these Mobile Meals two to three days per week in prep for upcoming events.

Bogg’s community-wide events provide food for those who need food assistance and also show those in need that they are loved and supported by their neighbors. The staff at Bogg knows how vital it is for attendees to get that social and emotional support, in addition to the physical support of food and supplies.

Dragons to Recognize “Hometown Heroes” Recipient During Game On May 26

Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize Blue Star Mothers as a “Hometown Heroes” recipient during a special inning break of the Dragons game on Wednesday, May 26th against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Day Air Ballpark. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons shine the spotlight on the military, past and present, through the Hometown Heroes program. This program hosts military families at every Dragons game, recognizes outstanding military organizations and individuals and welcomes the newest members of the armed forces during special ceremonies.

Blue Star Mothers is a volunteer organization that began in WWII, works in hospitals, train stations, and sends care packages to their “kids” fighting the war. Blue Star Mothers of America is now a nationwide volunteer organization with chapters in states from coast to coast. The largest chapter, however, is in Dayton. The Dayton chapter is made up of mothers of honorably and medically discharged veterans serving in the Military, Guard, or Reserve. Some of their children returned home with disabilities, while others made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Dayton chapter sends about 80-100 care packages to deployed military every month. Over their 10 years of service, Dayton Blue Star Mothers have mailed more than 12,000 care packages to deployed troops.

In addition to care packages, they also host events throughout the year to support those who are currently serving and veterans. From bingo luncheons at the Dayton VA, to a coat drive to provide winter outerwear to veterans via Parka’s for Patriots, to filling “Baskets of Hope” for veterans at the Dayton VA, this group is incredibly active in the community.

Like most non-profits, Dayton Blue Star Mothers depends heavily on their great volunteers and community support and donations, and they are always looking for more women (and men) to join the team. Edgar Snyder & Associates and Altoona Curve Team Up on “Bases for Bikes” Campaign

CURVE, PA – The Altoona Curve and the law firm of Edgar Snyder Associates are pleased to announce the return of the “Bases for Bikes” campaign that provides adaptive bicycles to children with disabilities. This is the eighth year that Edgar Snyder & Associates has sponsored the program.

With each stolen base by an Altoona Curve player this season, Edgar Snyder & Associates will make a $50 donation to Variety the Children’s Charity to support Variety’s “My Bike” program. Variety the Children’s Charity began the “My Bike” program in 2012; the program works toward the goal of providing each child the chance to feel the wind in his or her hair along with the fun and adventure of riding a bike.

“We’re so grateful to be a part of this exciting partnership. The support by Edgar Snyder & Associates and the Altoona Curve has been incredible, and through Bases for Bikes, we will impact more kids with disabilities by giving them an adaptive bike made just for them,” said Variety’s CEO, Charlie LaVallee.

The excitement that we have seen on children’s faces as they ride a bike for the very first time is indescribable. Through 17 games this season, the Curve have stolen 15 bases. Ji-Hwan Bae, Cal Mitchell, and Canaan Smith-Njigba lead the team with three stolen bases each. Daniel Amaral and Ethan Paul have each stolen two bases, while Rodolfo Castro and Oneil Cruz have each stolen on base on the season.

The Curve begin a six-game series with the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) on Tuesday night. Friday May 28 is a Free Shirt Friday to the first 1,000 fans, presented by James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center. There will also be post-game fireworks on Saturday May 29th, presented by Furrer Beverage and M&T Bank, and Sunday May 30th, presented By Super 8, Blair Candy, Penn Highlands Healthcare and Furrer Beverage.

Bring Your Dog to the Park this Summer Thanks to Humane Pennsylvania

(Reading, PA) – The Reading Fightin Phils are excited to have our furriest fans out at FirstEnergy Stadium this summer during our Bark in the Park nights thanks to Humane Pennsylvania. There will be five Sunday Bark at the Park nights at America’s Classic ballpark where fans can bring their dogs along with them to enjoy the game.

Dog tickets are available for just $5 at these select games. Pups have their own seat so they have just as great of a view as you do! Humane Pennsylvania will have an information table set up in the VIST Bank Plaza at all Bark in the Park games.

NATURALS NOW SCHEDULING FUNDRAISING GAMES FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

SPRINGDALE, Ark – The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are now scheduling 2021 fundraising games for school groups, sports teams, performance groups, and non-profits.Supporters will get to attend a Naturals game and the organization will get to keep a large portion of their ticket sales.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are proud to continue to have a positive impact on Northwest Arkansas and the surrounding communities as over one million dollars has been raised for participating groups since the start of the 2010 season through the team’s fundraising program.

In addition to the funds raised, the Naturals Community Partners Program Presented by Rich Products Corporation, gives non-profits the platform to promote their cause for free at Naturals games throughout the season.

In addition to in-stadium fundraising programs, the Naturals also help out local events through donations and mascot appearances.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals will return to Arvest Ballpark tomorrow night – Tuesday, May 25th – to face the San Antonio Missions (Double-A Padres), which begins a stretch of 12 home games in 13 days.

The Naturals are the Double-A Central Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Naturals play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Ark. Food & Beverage Job Fair at Fluor Field Saturday From 11 AM to 2 PM

Are you looking to join a winning team this Summer? Would you like to have Fluor Field as your “work” backdrop? With the 2021 season underway, the Drive are looking to fill key roles within the award-winning Food & Beverage team over the remaining 48 home games.

The Drive will host a Food & Beverage Job Fair at Fluor Field this Saturday, May 29th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Those interested in finding out more about these opportunities, and applying, should enter Fluor Field through the Main Street Gate.

The positions that the Drive are looking to fill include the following:

  • Concession Stand Manager
  • sEATz In-Seat Food Order Deliverer
  • Suite and Hospitality Hosts and Hostesses
  • Bartenders
  • Picnic Managers
  • Concession Stand Prep Cook
  • Subway Concession Stand Operator
  • Dishwasher

Pay rates start at $10/hour, and also include a “sign-on” and “end of season” bonus opportunity.

Portland Sea Dogs and KeyBank team up for KeyBank Assists Program

PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Sea Dogs and KeyBank, a long-time sponsor, are collaborating on a #KeyBank Assists in-game promotion to support Portland-based nonprofit Cooking for Community. For every assist recorded by the Sea Dogs during ALL home games throughout the entire season, KeyBank pledges a donation of $10 per assist, up to $10,000 total for the season.

“The Sea Dogs are proud to partner with KeyBank to assist Cooking for Community and their mission to feed those in need and support local restaurants,” Said Geoff Iacuessa, the president and general manager of the Portland Sea Dogs. “KeyBank shares our commitment to the community, together we can hit out of the park to help to make a lasting impact.”

Cooking for Community is an all-volunteer organization addressing hunger in Maine by hiring local restaurants and food producers economically impacted by the pandemic to prepare healthy meals for people who are food insecure. The nonprofit’s social service affiliates then distribute these comforting, easy-to-reheat meals to underserved populations. Ninety-eight percent of all funding raised by Cooking for Community goes directly to restaurant and food-producing partners. Since its inception in early April 2020, over 100,000 meals have been purchased to feed the hungry and support local restaurants and growers who are central to our community and the economic viability of Maine’s vibrant food culture.

B’nai B’rith to introduce 2021 Class of Student-Athlete Scholarship Recipients at Fresno Grizzlies Home Game

B’nai B’rith Fresno will celebrate 70 years of recognizing Fresno-area student-athletes by introducing its 2021 class of scholarship recipients at Chukchansi Park on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 1:05 p.m. during the Fresno Grizzlies game.

B’nai B’rith is proud to partner with the Fresno Grizzlies to recognize 17 outstanding student-athletes as Covid-19 protocols made an in-person dinner impossible this year. A small ceremony, in accordance with CDC and State of California mandates, will occur during the game where each nominee and their parents will be present.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to host such a historic, meaningful event out here at the ballpark,” said Derek Franks, Grizzlies President. “Year after year I am astounded by the accomplishments of our local student athletes and I am grateful that B’nai B’rith Fresno chose Chukchansi Park as the location of this year’s event.”

The B’nai B’rith Student-Athlete Dinner and Scholarship is the longest running scholarship program in Fresno County and is celebrating its 70th year. Each high school that draws students from a Fresno zip code nominates a senior based on athletic achievements, academic accomplishments and school and community activities.

The B’nai B’rith Student Athlete Award started in 1952 as part of Brotherhood Week in Fresno. Race, creed, nationality, religious background nor gender has anything to do with the considered choices for award nominees.
