P-Nats Honor Local Military Members with “Tripp’s Troops” Program

Woodbridge, VA—The Potomac Nationals and 2018 manager Tripp Keister are excited to unveil the “Tripp’s Troops” program for the entirety of the 2018 season. This program will provide free tickets to each 2018 P-Nats home game to current or former military members through a nomination process on www.potomacnationals.com.

With this new program, fans will be able to nominate current and former members of the military to receive free tickets to a 2018 P-Nats home game. The nomination process will be through the Potomac Nationals’ website, where fans will be able to easily submit information to get free tickets for deserving members of the community. Baysox to Host Educator Appreciation Night on April 20

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Dragons present an Anthem Home Run for Life

Dayton, Ohio — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Dayton Dragons will host 9-year-old JD Shope during the unique Anthem Home Run for Life program on Wednesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m., when the Dayton Dragons take on the South Bend Cubs at Fifth Third Field.

The Anthem Home Run for Life program provides children in the Dayton region who are battling serious medical conditions with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Each honoree gets to take a lap around the bases at Fifth Third Field during a sold-out Dragons home game while the crowd cheers them on.

JD Shope is an active third grader at Arrowood Elementary. He spends his time hanging out with his friends, watching TV, and riding his horse Mac. His favorite passion is riding rollercoasters. While he sounds like a typical kid, JD’s journey in the last year has been far from typical.

In the spring of 2017, JD began vomiting somewhat regularly – enough that his parents took him to his pediatrician for an exam. After a visit to a gastroenterologist and additional testing, what seemed like a classic case of acid reflux turned out to be much more.

Doctors recommended that JD undergo neurological imaging to look for the cause of his symptoms. On his 9th birthday, JD had a CT scan done and, unfortunately, his scan revealed an egg-sized tumor in his brain.

The initial 72 hours after JD’s diagnosis was a whirlwind. JD was scheduled for a surgery to remove the tumor as soon as possible. The surgery was more complicated than surgeons initially thought but, thankfully, they were able to remove the entire tumor and the immediate results looked great.

Following surgery, JD began physical and occupational therapy to regain his strength. Through it all, JD’s personality shined. He was always upbeat, positive, and had a great sense of humor. JD’s most recent MRI showed no new tumor growth, meaning he will not have to have chemotherapy or any other treatments at this time.

JD is looking forward to living a normal life this summer. He hopes to visit a local waterpark or two. He has big dreams of attending The Ohio State University and focusing on either veterinary studies or the culinary arts. Since his experience with a brain tumor, JD has great advice for anyone going through a scary or overwhelming medical situation, “You have to be patient, confident and strong…The doctors and nurses will take the very best care of you they can!”

Chiefs Announce Teacher of the Year Award Program

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Chiefs have partnered with Busey Bank to honor an area teacher as the Central Illinois Teacher of the Year. The award will be presented at Teacher Appreciation Night on Thursday, May 31 and fans are encouraged to nominate their favorite teacher over the next month.

Fans can nominate an active Central Illinois teacher who has impacted their lives or gone above and beyond for their classroom or school. Stacie Daniel to Celebrate “Home Run For Life” Saturday with OKC Dodgers

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and INTEGRIS open the 2018 “Home Run For Life” series Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark by recognizing Stacie Daniel, who was born with cystic fibrosis and placed on the lung transplant list at age 29.

Cystic fibrosis is a “progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time,” according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website.

Daniel’s lungs were functioning at just 30 percent capacity by the time she was 25 years old. After nine months of waiting on the transplant list, Daniel received a double lung transplant in August 2017 at Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.

The avid hunter is now back to enjoying the sport – and the time outdoors – that she loves.

“Home Run For Life” recognizes individuals in the Oklahoma City community who have overcome a significant medical event with the help of their families, physicians and health care professionals. To symbolize the end of their battle against adversity, honorees take a home run “lap” around the bases during an in-game ceremony.

“For the eighth straight year, we are proud to partner with INTEGRIS to recognize some amazing Oklahomans who have faced extraordinary adversity with their health,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “Their perseverance and courage are great examples and we are pleased to have the opportunity to honor their hard work in overcoming these challenges.”

Daniel loves hunting, water sports, fossil hunting and traveling – basically anything that allows her to be outdoors and surrounded by nature. But cystic fibrosis threatened her passion – and her life. She was born with the disease that leads to lung damage and respiratory failure and also prevents the body from releasing digestive enzymes that break down food to absorb vital nutrients, according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website.

“I remember my mom being in tears when I was diagnosed at six years old,” Daniel said. “They told her to love me while she could and pretty much wrap me in a bubble because the life expectancy at that time for someone with CF was 10 to 12 years.”

As a child, Daniel’s issues were mainly digestive. She didn’t start experiencing lung problems until she was a teenager. That’s when her disease started to progress and her lungs were struggling to function. She would experience coughing fits that could last 45 minutes to an hour.

After nine months on the transplant list, she received a double lung transplant at Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.

Daniel, 31, is now back to enjoying the outdoors and living life.

“Stacie is an ideal patient – compliant and full of drive and dreams,” Mark Rolfe, M.D., said. “She is the kind of patient that every transplant pulmonologist loves because she is so easy to take care of and takes advantage of the transplant to live life to its fullest.”

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website, significant progress has been made in treating the disease, but there is still no cure.

“I will always have CF and the sinus and digestive issues that go along with it,” she said. “But the disease cannot get into my new lungs and it’s the respiratory issues that are the most fatal. So, my prognosis is great and because of my donor and the generosity of his or her family, I truly have been given a second chance at life.”

The OKC Dodgers continue their first homestand of the season with Opening Weekend events starting at 7:05 p.m. against the Round Rock Express at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on a $2 Thursday, featuring $2 Pepsi products and select beer.

Opening Week presented by TD Bank continues on Sunday at 4:05 PM with the annual Safe Kids Upstate Day at Fluor Field, in partnership with Greenville Health System and Bradshaw Automotive. Safety Patrol members will participate in a pregame parade around the Fluor Field warning track at 3:30 PM, and Safe Kids will be handing out bike helmets to the first 400 children who enter the Fluor Field gates.

Green & Gold Charity Softball Game is on for June 2

GRAND CHUTE, WI – Jordy Nelson is unable to attend, but the Green & Gold Charity Softball Game at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday, June 2 is on as planned! Clay Matthews and Davante Adams will serve as team captains and the captains will mix up the format this year. Matthews and Adams will draft their squads from their Green Bay Packers teammates to compete in a game of softball instead of the traditional Offense vs. Defense contest. There will be a home run derby at 11:00am and the game is scheduled to begin at 12:05pm.

Dragons to Recognize Honor Flight Dayton Program on April 11

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons will recognize the Honor Flight Dayton program during an inning break of their game on Wednesday, April 11 against the Lake County Captains at Fifth Third Field. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday’s event is the first of four special Hometown Heroes program spotlights at Dragons games this season. At each Hometown Heroes event, the Dragons pay tribute to all service men and women past and present. Presenting sponsors are the Dayton Development Coalition and Leidos. Additional tributes are scheduled for May 8, June 24, and July 15, each focused on a different aspect or organization involved in the military. The season-long celebration will wrap up with a Celebration Night on August 18.

Many veterans and chaperones who will be participating in the scheduled April 14 Honor Flight will be in attendance at the Dragons Hometown Heroes spotlight during the game on April 11.

Honor Flight Dayton’s mission is to ensure that Dayton area veterans have the opportunity to see their national memorials in Washington, D.C. These once in a lifetime trips are provided at no cost to qualified veterans. Created in 2005, the first Honor Flight took 12 veterans on six small planes from Springfield, Ohio to D.C. Since then, thousands of veterans have been escorted to see their memorial. The program is still going strong with up to four flights per year. In 2017, year more than 440 veterans were able to enjoy this experience. This program started with WWII veterans, but now much of their impact is on Korean and Vietnam veterans.

In 2017, 4,500 students in FCPS participated in this program. This year, that number has grown to 8,600 students actively participating in the initiative to create interest in STEM-related careers and topics. Students are rewarded for completing in-school STEM-related projects with free tickets to a Legends game. They have to master four aspects of learning: Critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication. These are accomplished by one hour of coding, creating an innovative project, attending a STEM Fair or STLP Meeting and then teaching someone what they learned. This four-step process helps to reinforce new learning and broaden what the students would learn in the classroom.

On April 11 and May 9, students from across the area will take in a Legends game at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Education Days. During those games, students will be able to learn more about the science of baseball with launch angles, speed, velocity and more being broadcasted on the television screens on the concourse. Lexmark will also be sponsoring a STEM Fair for students to gain hands-on learning from a variety of Lexington-area organizations. Students can learn about meteorology from WKYT and Bryan Station High School will have virtual reality opportunities. The US Army, Kentucky American Water, Whitaker Bank, Explorium, Lexmark, Denham-Blythe (May 9th only), Bechtel and Kumon will also have interactive setups for the STEM Fair.

SKY SOX ANNOUNCE WASTE CONNECTIONS “CHARITY SPOTLIGHT” PROGRAM

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, are proud to announce that they have partnered with Waste Connections of Colorado Inc. to showcase local Colorado Springs charities throughout the 2018 season at Security Service Field, known as the Waste Connections “Charity Spotlight”.

In honor of the hard work charities put in the Springs community, the Waste Connections of Colorado Inc. will provide these organizations with an opportunity to market themselves and raise awareness for their causes at Security Service Field during the 2018 season and FREE of charge.

SMOKIES AND U.S. CELLULAR TO HOST LITTLE LEAGUE TAKEOVER

SEVIERVILLE – The Tennessee Smokies have announced they have teamed up with U.S. Cellular to host a Little League Takeover on Saturday, April 7th at Farragut Baseball fields from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The U.S. Cellular Little League Takeover will allow the youth baseball players ages 5-14 to experience what it is like to be a Smokies player for a day.

“We are extremely excited to team up with U.S. Cellular for this event,” added Smokies President and COO Chris Allen. “This is a great event to allow these kids the chance to experience what it is like to be a Smokies player for a day. We are thrilled to be involved in this event as we love being a part of this Knoxville community.”

The event will take place at the Farragut Baseball fields located at 11719 S. Northshore Drive. The youth baseball players will play their scheduled games with a host announcing the players, on-field games, inflatables, prizes, and much more. The youth base¬ball players will also have a chance to feel like a true Smokies player with a mock interview station featuring a podium and a media backdrop where they can answer questions following their game.

About Rob Levine and Associates

He began a writing project for a grant and secured sixteen thousand dollars for the department’s first K-9 Drug Enforcement unit. Upon his appointment as the K-9 Officer, he went to California for formal training. In addition to his patrol duty, Rob and his dog were instrumental in fighting the ever-present drug problem in the city.

His police work was not the only thing he was focused on, Rob also concentrated on his personal development. Rob began to attend law school, was learning how to fly helicopters, practicing in a Robison R-22, helicopter. After graduating from law school Rob retired from the police department and began to practice law continuing to help those in need. Rob also continued to feel the need to serve the community as a volunteer and became a Ski Patroller. Not being fully satisfied with his medical background as an emergency medical technician, Rob went back to school to become a paramedic. Rob now works and volunteers his time as a paramedic, riding on an ambulance, trying to make a difference.

His background and focus has always been on helping those in need and giving back to the community in many different capacities as often as he can.
