Reno Aces to host fifth “Home Run for Life” ceremony on Friday

 

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces will host their fifth Saint Mary’s “Home Run for Life” ceremony of 2021, featuring Carrie Chamberlin, a breast cancer warrior,on Friday, Sept. 3 when the Aces take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 6:35 p.m. PT at Greater Nevada Field.

Since 2014, the Aces and Saint Mary’s have partnered to showcase the “Home Run for Life” program. Once a month, a brave individual in the Northern Nevada community is honored by taking a ceremonial trip around the bases with each team lining the baselines. The ceremony symbolizes the end of a battle against adversity. Individuals honored have overcome a significant medical event in their life with the help of Saint Mary’s personnel.

Carrie persevered through her relentless battle with breast cancer.

In October 2015, Chamberlin was diagnosed with stage zero ductal carcinoma in situ, which is abnormal cells found in the milk ducts of a women’s breast. Following surgery and a small round of radiation, the long-time Aces fan found herself clear of cancerous cells.

After five years without any issues, a time for celebration turned sour as Carrie found out she had breast cancer on Christmas Eve. A little over a month after the positive diagnosis, Chamberlin had both of her breasts removed and the doctors were able to remove all of the cancer cells.

The real battle came in the weeks following, as Carrie had struggled with mobility in both of her arms. Had it not been for Saint Mary’s Fitness Center and her fitness trainers, Denise and Stephanie, her road to recovery would have been stunted.

As of August 2021, Chamberlin has been cancer-free and credits her family, friends and the Saint Mary’s professionals for getting her healthy and in shape to take her life back.

Carrie Chamberlin will round the bases commemorating her “Home Run for Life” in the middle of the second inning on Friday night. The Reno Aces and the Tacoma Rainiers players and staff will be lined up at a 12-foot distance to greet him as she makes her way toward home plate.

Aces hosting Saturday toy drive with Ashlee’s Toy Closet for fire victims

 

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces are partnering with Ashlee’s Toy Closet for a toy drive prior to this Saturday’s game against the Tacoma Rainiers. Fans will be able to drop off items beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT for the 6:35 p.m. PT game at Greater Nevada Field. The supplies will go directly to help children affected by the various fires in our area, including the Tamarack, Caldor, Dixie and Beckwourth Complex fires.

The drive will be looking for new toys, new socks and underwear packs, new blankets and gift cards for families to use on meals, gas or general needs.

“All of us as the Aces are Nevadans who are heartbroken to see community suffering at the hands of wildfires,” said Aces president Eric Edelstein. “We pledge to support those on the front lines of this disaster just as we have the last and will do the next.”

“The Aces have supported Ashlee’s Toy Closet for several years in the form of donating toys so that they can be delivered to children who have lost everything due to fire,” said Aces general manager Emily Jaenson. “What we respect most about Ashlee is her response time to help people right here in our own community. She sees a need, fills her truck, and delivers toys into the hands of children when they need them most.”

Ashlee’s Toy Closet started in South Lake Tahoe 14 years ago after the Angora Fire. Ashlee Smith, the daughter of a firefighter, started the organization which is currently providing boots-on-the-ground support of all evacuees from the Caldor fire.

BlueClaws to Host School Supply Drive on September 10th

 

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws will host a School Supply Drive at their game on Friday, September 10th. Fans are asked to bring school supplies to the game for the drive hosted by BlueClaws Charities. Items can be dropped off at the New Jersey Natural Gas Information Booth on the concourse behind home plate.

Items that can be dropped off include, but are not limited to: notebooks, binders, markers, pens & pencils, crayons, backpacks,

Any fan that donates school supplies will receive two complimentary tickets to BlueClaws Opening Night in 2022.

Friday’s game includes Post-Game Fireworks thanks to New Jersey Lottery and is a part of Locals’ Summer, presented by Rothman Orthopaedic Institute.

BlueClaws Release Details for September 11th Remembrance Walk

 

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws have released details for their September 11th Remembrance Walk to take place on the field at FirstEnergy Park prior to the BlueClaws game next Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Gates will open to the general public at 5:50 pm, 10 minutes earlier than normal (early entrance for season ticket holders, half-season ticket holders, and partial plan holders remains at 5:30). Upon entry to the ballpark, fans will be able to pick up cards at each of the two entry gates. Fans can write in names of individuals or groups on the cards that they would like to honor through their participation in the walk. There will be several pre-printed versions for fans as well.

Participants will then head to Section 103 on the first base concourse. The walk will begin shortly after 6:00 pm and fans can walk the full two laps of the field to represent 2,730 feet, the combined height of both towers.

During the walk, the BlueClaws will play a commemorative video on the board, which will include a recording of each Jersey Shore victim of the 9/11 attacks.

Fans are asked to hold onto the cards for a special promotion that will run during the middle of the sixth inning.

“We honor those that lost their lives in the terrorist attacks 20 years ago,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “They will not be forgotten and we will honor their memories this year on the anniversary of that tragic day.”

Baysox Host Military Appreciation Event Sept. 18

 

Bowie, Md: The Bowie Baysox will salute those who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s armed forces during Military Appreciation Night, presented by Valor Home, on Saturday, September 18, 2021, when the Baysox host the Altoona Curve, Double-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:35 pm.

Join the OKC Dodgers for Military Celebration Night Friday

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers will honor the service and dedication of local military members and their families Friday during Military Celebration Night when the Dodgers play the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Dodgers players and coaches will take the field wearing special commemorative green, camouflage and gold jerseys as well as camouflage hats. Their game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off via the DASH Auction app, which is available for free via the App Store and Google Play Store. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the OKC Dodgers Baseball Foundation.

Special festivities throughout the game will culminate with postgame fireworks presented by SpringHill Suites.

BlueClaws to Honor Toms River East Little Leaguers at September 10th Game

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The Toms River East Little Leaguers that earned their way to the Little League World Series last month will be honored on the field before the BlueClaws game on Friday, September 10th.

The group of 12 year-olds from Toms River captured the hearts of the Jersey Shore on their magical run to Williamsport last month.

“We’re very excited to welcome out the Toms River East Little League team to the ballpark on our final homestand,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “We’re celebrating ‘Locals’ Summer’ at the ballpark this week and having a local team that made it big is a great addition!”

They won the New Jersey State championship on August 2nd, defeating Hillsdale to earn a place in the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut. There, they finished second, earning a spot in Williamsport at the Little League World Series.

The ceremony, including players and manager Paul Mika, will take place on the field at the conclusion of the Toms River East Little League parade. Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early. Gates open at 6:00 pm.

Post-game fireworks will follow the game, thanks to the New Jersey Lottery.

NH Little League World Series Team to be Honored at Saturday’s Fisher Cats Game

 

Manchester, N.H. – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) are proud to honor the North Manchester Hooksett 11/12 All-Stars, who advanced to the final eight of this year’s Little League World Series, with an on-field ceremony before Saturday night’s game against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) at Delta Dental Stadium.

The team will take the field and be recognized approximately 20 minutes before the game, which is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s festivities will also include a postgame Atlas Fireworks show, presented by Bellwether Community Credit Union.

Sounds Donate $10,000 and Supplies to Aid in Flood Recovery Efforts 

 

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club, on behalf of owners Frank Ward and Masahiro Honzawa, has announced a donation of $10,000 to the Humphreys County Relief Fund to assist in the Humphreys County and Midstate flood recovery efforts.

In addition to the monetary donation made by the Sounds, the Nashville Sounds Foundation is currently accepting donations to via Venmo at @NashvilleSoundsFoundation. All funds raised via Venmo will also be donated to the Humphreys County Relief Fund. The Sounds will also be donating all dog ticket money ($5 per ticket) from the July 27 Tito’s Tail Waggin’ Tuesday game to the Humphreys County Humane Society.

“The loss of life and devastation from the recent flooding is tragic,” said Sounds co-owner Frank Ward. “The Midstate area has been through a great deal of unfortunate events over the last 18 months and the Nashville Sounds Baseball Club will continue to assist in every way possible. Aside from a monetary donation, rest assured our incredible front office will lend helping hands over the coming weeks and months.”

The Sounds are providing multiple ways for fans to donate necessary items to those in need. The team accepted donations throughout the recent homestand and will continue to do so until Friday, September 3. Fans can bring items such as diapers, paper towels, batteries, towels, baby formula, etc. to the Club and Suite entrance at First Horizon Park. All items donated will be dropped off at McEwen High School. Additionally, the Nashville Sounds Foundation has set up an Amazon Wish List here for those unavailable to drop off items at the ballpark.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Nashville Sounds Front Office will volunteer their time and assist in the recovery efforts in Humphreys County and the surrounding areas. Led by award-winning Head Groundskeeper Thomas Trotter, the Sounds’ grounds crew will assist in the rebuilding of numerous baseball fields in the area. Weston Named 2021 Service Through Sports Award Recipient

 

The Winston-Salem Dash are proud to announce Claudette Weston as the recipient of the 2021 Service Through Sports Award, presented by Truist. The Service Through Sports award is given annually to a member of the local athletic community who has positively impacted the city of Winston-Salem through his/her efforts as a player, coach, executive or member of the media.

Weston is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Weston & Associates, Inc., a meeting and event management company based in Winston-Salem. She has spent the entirety of her professional career as a catalyst for positive change by serving on over 50 boards and using local sports as a way to bring the citizens of Winston-Salem together.

She has served as a member of the Greater Winston-Salem Sports Commission and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Winston-Salem National Little League. She was also a driving force in bringing the AAU Junior Boys 17-and-Under National Basketball Tournament to Winston-Salem from 1992 through 1995.

While Weston holds passion for sports, her service has spanned far beyond the athletic community. She has contributed as a member for ACTS of Forsyth County, Advocacy for the Poor, the Council on Anxiety Disorders, and others.

“Claudette has made a profoundly positive impact on the Winston-Salem sports community,” says Winston-Salem Dash President C.J. Johnson. “we are honored to recognize her dedication and hard work with this years’ Service Through Sports Award.”

Bats To Host Peanut Allergy Awareness Night Tuesday, Aug. 31

 

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Louisville Bats are hosting Peanut Allergy Awareness Night to open their upcoming homestand on Tuesday, Aug. 31 against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) at Louisville Slugger Field. Hillsboro Hops Partner with Intel to Support STEM Education in Oregon as Part of Strikeouts for STEM Program

 

HILLSBORO, OR (August 27, 2021) – As part of a partnership between the Hillsboro Hops (@HillsboroHops) and Intel, the Oregon-based, microprocessor manufacturer is donating a total of $50,000 to fund future STEM opportunities for the children of Hillsboro in support of the Hillsboro Schools Foundations new Imagina tu Aventura program.

Intel committed to donate $10 for every strikeout by a Hops pitcher this season. Hops pitchers have delivered 918 strikeouts so far in 2021 totaling $9,180.00. Intel is rounding their donation up to $50,000

Intel has called Oregon home for 47 years and provides jobs for over 20,000 employees. Since 2016, Intel, the Intel Foundation and Intel employees gave over $55 million in grants, donations, and in-kind gifts to local Oregon schools and non-profit organizations.

“HSF’s Elementary School program ‘Imagina tu Adventure’ will bring bilingual, bicultural career exploration kits and programs to all kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms,” said Aron Carleson, HSF Executive Director. “Intel’s contribution assures we can begin with STEM career education for all students. We are thankful for Intel’s strong community support.”

Upper Providence Little League to be honored at America’s Classic Ballpark

 

The Reading Fightin Phils are excited to host the Pennsylvania Little League World Series Team – Upper Providence 12U. The Fightins are so proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our fellow Pennsylvania Baseball team here at FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, September 7th. The team showed amazing talent and sportsmanship on the biggest stage in Little League.

On Tuesday, September 7th the R-Phils take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) at America’s Classic Ballpark. Before the 7:05 game, Upper Providence Little League will meet members of the Reading Fightin Phils, be introduced as our FirstEnergy Neighborhood Champion and head to the outfield for a pre-game catch. Then, every single player will be invited to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the ballgame. The team will enjoy the night from the Reading Hospital Tower Health Pool Pavilion with their family and friends.

Upper Providence Little League, based in Oaks, PA, is an elite program that saw much success this summer. After becoming the 2021 PA State Champions, they advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship where only two teams from the region would make the Little League World Series. UPLL punched their ticket to Williamsport and went on to become the Mid-Atlantic Region Champions.

They were also PA Little League District 27 champs and PA Little League Section 8 champs which helped them advance into the tournament.

Fourteen Players and their Manager Ben Ludwig went on to travel to the Little League World Series. Fellow coaches Tom Sergio and Joe Schuberth also joined the team in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The team first matched up against Oregon where they fell 8-2. Aiden Ludwig began the scoring with an RBI single to bat in Jalen Bowman who doubled to reach. Bowman went on to take the mound taking down Oregon 1-2-3 in the first. After their opponents put up a three-run homer, Ludwig sent in another runner as Jack Strzeminski crossed the plate making it 3-2. Oregon put up a big five-run fourth and that’s where things remained for the rest of the game.

Upper Providence then faced off against Louisiana where they dropped 5-2. LA put up two in the first and another each in the second and third. But, UPLL was not done yet as Jalen Bowman tripled and was brought home on a Sam Buckley home run. Louisiana added one more to finish the game.

UPPL capped off the experience with a trip to the Little League Classic featuring the Los Angeles Angeles and Cleveland Indians. They got autographs from Shohei Ohtani and New Jersey native Mike Trout.
