
National Initiative will raise funds for Feeding America in response to global pandemic
Modesto, CA, April 28th, 2020 – The Modesto Nuts today announced they are joining MiLB CommUNITY First, a new national initiative developed by Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) in conjunction with Feeding America®, to raise funds for local food banks and to honor individuals risking their lives on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nuts fans are encouraged to visit CommUNITY First through May 31 to donate. Once on the site, fans can choose their donation amount and the “Modesto Nuts” as the recipient of their donation to direct funds to the Modesto/ Central Valley community. For every $10 donated, the Nuts will donate one ticket to a future home game this season or in 2021 to a local hero of the pandemic.
School closures, rising unemployment and rising poverty due to quarantine and extended stay-at-home orders have disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger and could result in an estimated additional 17.1 million people experiencing food insecurity in the next six months, according to Feeding America. As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a network of more than 200 affiliates, Feeding America has projected a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next six months alone.
In response, contributions from Nuts fans and Minor League Baseball will help ensure families and individuals across the country most impacted by the pandemic are fed and cared for during these uncertain times. San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants and naming rights partner, Excite Credit Union, announced today the Frontlines Meal Fund to support and show gratitude to personnel at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. The Fund will provide meals to essential healthcare, police, fire and EMT personnel working tirelessly to combat this pandemic.
Visalia, CA- The Sigal Family, owners of the Visalia Rawhide, have committed over $30,000 to Central Valley non-profits to immediately assist those in need during the current national emergency. The Rawhide staff and the Central Valley Community Foundation have been key in researching and advising where funds should be allocated.
5th Annual Lancaster JetHawks Fundraising Workshop
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Grizzlies will hold their annual job fair at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno on Saturday, March 7th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Chukchansi Park employs roughly 500 game-day workers for the Grizzlies baseball season and several stadium special events. As a huge employer in Downtown’s largest gathering space, new positions are available for 2020.

San Antonio – The Elmore Sports Group, owners of the San Antonio Missions, have partnered with Bowie State University to diversify the front office staffs of its teams. The partnership is the first of its kind for Maryland’s oldest historically black university and is designed to create a college-to-career pipeline for students with an interest in a career in sport management.
“I want to own a sports facility, so starting at the bottom will teach me how everything operates, and once I know how to operate the building, I’ll be able to own the building,” said Johnson. “I’ll work my way up. Stadium operations is what I want to do. Working here gives me the opportunity to learn.”

West Sacramento, Calif. – The Sacramento River Cats will be hosting their annual job fairs on Saturday, January 25 and on Saturday, February 8 at Sutter Health Park (formerly Raley Field) in West Sacramento. Those interested in working for the River Cats during the 2020 season are encouraged to attend these free events. Hiring managers will conduct interviews during each event, and select positions may extend job offers on the spot.
