Potomac Nationals to Begin Toys for Tots Drive November 9th

Woodbridge, VA—As the holiday season comes upon us, the Potomac Nationals are excited to announce a new partnership with Toys for Tots. The local program, run by the Quantico Chapter of the US Marine Corps, collects new, unwrapped toys in November and December. These gifts are then spread to children in the area on Christmas Day.

“While the holiday season is a joyous time of the year for the Potomac Nationals family, spent reflecting on all which we are thankful for, and sharing gifts with our loved ones and friends, there are many underprivileged children in our region who will not be afforded the same opportunity to open presents during the holidays,” said Potomac Nationals GM of Sales, Bryan Holland.

“In an effort to serve as a conduit to our community’s less fortunate, the P-Nats are honored to partner with the Toys for Tots program, which annually distributes millions of toys to kids across the United States, as a means to collect toys that will be distributed directly to kids in Northern Virginia who would not otherwise be receiving gifts from their families,” said Holland.

This is the first year that the P-Nats and Toys for Tots have partnered during the holiday season. Collections will begin in the P-Nats’ Front Office at Pfitzner Stadium starting tomorrow, November 9th, and will conclude on Monday, December 11th. Toys can be dropped off at Pfitzner Stadium during normal business hours (9am-5pm) Monday through Friday. Anyone who contributes a new and unwrapped toy will receive four undated grandstand tickets for the 2018 Potomac Nationals’ season.

“Any time that the Potomac Nationals can utilize our network of fans, booster club members, sponsors, and friends of the franchise to benefit the greater good, and in this case, to make the holiday season a special and memorable one for underprivileged kids in our community, our club is prepared to dive headfirst into that effort,” said Holland.

Annual Toys for Tots Drive to Begin November 1

FREDERICK, MD-With the holiday season approaching quickly, the Frederick Keys are excited to continue their partnership with Toys for Tots. This program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, collects new, unwrapped toys in November and December. These gifts are then distributed to less fortunate children on Christmas Day.

The sixth straight year the Keys and Toys for Tots have worked together, Nymeo Field collections begin on Wednesday, November 1 and conclude on Thursday, December 14. Those interested in making a donation can drop off toys during normal business hours (9-5 p.m) Monday through Friday. All donations will be taken in the main office. Anyone who contributes a new, unwrapped toy receives a Keys hat and two tickets to a 2018 home game.

“We are excited to do our part in making the holidays a great time for everyone,” said Keys Marketing Manager, Erin Lawson. “The outpouring of support from Keys fans in recent years has been truly touching and we look forward to another great turnout in 2017.”

Nymeo Field has routinely been one of Frederick County’s top collection destinations. In 2016, 49,238 toys were distributed to 4,432 children in Frederick County. Additionally, more than $28,800 was collected for Toys for Tots. A program that began in 1947, today there are over 150 Marine reserve sites across the country as well as countless local sites across the country.

Planning for the Frederick Keys 30th anniversary season is already underway, while season ticket plans are currently on sale. Anyone who purchases a plan will have their choice of a Trey Mancini or Austin Hays bobblehead.

Blue Rocks Win Carolina League’s Matt Minker Award For Community Service

Wilmington, DE – The Wilmington Blue Rocks were honored by the Carolina League on Tuesday with the Matt Minker Community Service Award for the fourth consecutive season. The honorees were selected by a league-wide vote of club executives and owners.

“I could not be more proud of the entire Blue Rocks’ organization,” said managing partner Dave Heller. “I am especially happy for my partner and friend Clark Minker, since the community service award bears his late father’s name. This is a great team award, and I am so delighted for everyone with the Blue Rocks who worked so hard all season long to earn this tremendous accolade. We take enormous pride in our standing within the Delaware community and this award is a public recognition of how special our relationship with the people of the First State is.”

The Minker Award goes to the club that best demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support, and leadership within its community. The award is named after the Blue Rocks’ founder, who owned the club until his death in 2007. Minker, whose construction company built Frawley Stadium, is still the team’s honorary president.

The Blue Rocks won the award thanks in large part to their numerous school programs, charitable endeavors and hospital visits.

As an organization the Blue Rocks work with area schools to promote academic achievement (DSEA Rocky’s Reading Challenge), citizenship (Outstanding Student Program) and overall knowledge (Discover Baseball and Education Day). Frawley Stadium also hosts three youth camps each summer, teaching kids how to play the game of baseball.

The team helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for good causes through partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Fight for the Gold, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and many other charities in 2017. Several times during the season the team’s players and mascot also visited local hospitals, brightening the spirits of that facility’s patients and their families.

“Matt Minker was instrumental in laying the foundation for the Blue Rocks and for the franchise’s success in the years to follow,” said Blue Rocks director of community affairs Kevin Linton. “It is fitting that this award represents his life’s work and we are absolutely thrilled as an organization to honor his legacy for a fourth consecutive season by earning this recognition.”

As the Carolina League’s recipient of the Matt Minker Award, the Blue Rocks received the 10-team league’s automatic nomination for the John Henry Moss Community Service Award, given out by Minor League Baseball at its annual national convention, to be held this December in Disney World.

Beatty to host Fall Baseball Camp at BB&T Ballpark

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2017) – The Winston-Salem Dash are teaming with former Dash outfielder CJ Beatty to hold a Fall Baseball Camp at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, October 14.

Players ages 5-12 will work on basic fundamentals with Beatty, who will also hold discussions with players on mental skills and parents on future planning throughout the event. Check in is set for 8 a.m., with camp running from 8:30 a.m. to Noon.

Beatty is a native of Winston-Salem and an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, where he majored in Business and catapulted his baseball career. He was selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2014, Beatty joined the Chicago White Sox organization and played for the Dash in both 2014 and 2015.

Beatty is an international speaker who specializes in teaching people to believe in themselves when nobody else believes in them. Since 2009, he has traveled around the country and Australia hosting baseball camps, holding baseball workshops and delivering powerful messages. People have dubbed him as “The Baseball Motivator.” His YouTube channel has nearly two million views and has reached people in more than 220 countries. Free Movie Night set for October 21 at BB&T Ballpark

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 6, 2017) – The Winston-Salem Dash, in conjunction with the Winston-Salem Police Foundation, are proud to announce a free Movie Night at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, October 21. Gates open at 5 p.m., with the hit movie Sing beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Dash are also teaming with Sunshine and WXII 12 News for this exciting event.

Admission to this event is free to the public; however, donations of cash or blankets are strongly encouraged for all attendees. All donations will go to the Winston-Salem Police Foundation, a non-profit, independent organization dedicated to enhancing the capacity of the Winston-Salem Police Department to be more effective in improving public safety. The Foundation focuses on community outreach, funding and raising resources to assist the Police Department in making Winston-Salem a safer place to live, work and enjoy life. Before the movie, district representatives of the Winston-Salem Police Department will have their various vehicles on display, including police cars, motorcycles, bike patrol bicycles and rescue/hazardous device vehicles. Members of the K-9 unit will be in attendance as well.

“These Movie Nights at the ballpark have started so many necessary conversations between the people who protect us every day and those whom they are protecting,” Dash President Geoff Lassiter said. “We certainly encourage everyone in the community to partake in this great event.”

In case of inclement weather in the area on October 21, the make-up date is Sunday, October 22, with gates opening at 4 p.m. and the movie starting at 5:30 p.m.

Sox Offering Free Admission to all Service Members on Military Appreciation Night

SALEM, VA (Friday, September 1, 2017) – The Salem Red Sox will offer free admission to any and all military service members on Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, September 2 against the Winston-Salem Dash.

Due to the overwhelming support from Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Family Support Center, and our fans donating tickets at every home game this year, Salem Red Sox President Ryan Shelton has decided to match our partners’ contributions by giving free admission to all military service members (active or retired) who do not already have a ticket. Eligible fans can show their military ID at the gates for free entrance.

“In recent years, we have significantly increased our commitment to our fighting men and women,” Shelton said. “This year, with such overwhelming support from our fans, the VFW and MFS for the Tickets for Troops program, we wanted to ensure that every soldier, sailor and airman was able to attend and be recognized.”

Keys to Help Raise Money for Hurricane Harvey Victims

FREDERICK, MD -Over the final week of the season, the Frederick Keys will be raising monies for the victims in Houston and southeast Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The team will donate all money raised from its Wheel of Fun on Tuesday, Wednesday and Monday, along with proceeds raised from Monday’s 50-50 raffle. To go along with the help from Keys fans, all Keys player fine money will go towards the relief efforts. All the money raised will then be doubled by the Keys.

“Our hearts go out to everyone in Houston and the affected areas,” said Keys General Manager Dave Ziedelis. “We are asking all of our fans to help us out in raising money for the victims and to assist in whatever way possible with the relief efforts.”

The Keys will also be sending shirts and other clothes to help families ravaged by the flooding.

To go along with support from the Keys, Minor League Baseball Charities will match donations provided by its teams up to $10,000. All funds raised by MiLB teams will then be sent by to organizations selected by Minor League Baseball to help those affected.

On Wednesday, the Keys continue their three-game series with the Salem Red Sox. Right-hander Cristian Alvarado (7-9, 5.20) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by Red Sox left-hander Kyle Hart (2-2, 2.87). Blue Rocks to Help Raise Money for Hurricane Harvey Victims

Wilmington, DE – With the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the region of southeast Texas, the Wilmington Blue Rocks are partnering with their fans to help raise funds and provide relief for the communities impacted by the historic storm.

The Blue Rocks will donate $2 for every box seat and reserve box seat purchased online using the promo code RELIEF, for games from Saturday, September 2 through Monday, September 4. Additionally, the Blue Rocks will donate all proceeds from the team’s Hurl the Pearl promotion, along with the proceeds raised from their Launch-a-Ball contest on Saturday, September 2. The club is also having an online auction of original artwork featuring mascots Rocky Bluewinkle and Mr. Celery, with all proceeds going directly to the Hurricane Harvey relief fund.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the people of the Texas Gulf Coast during this very challenging time,” said Blue Rocks owner Dave Heller. “Whether it be money or needed clothes, we are asking all of our fans to join us in helping our fellow citizens along the Gulf. Starting on Saturday, September 2, the Red Cross will set up monetary donation buckets outside the gates at the ballpark and GreenDrop will have donation boxes for fans to give new or gently used clothing during the final three games of the 2017 regular season.

“The damage that Hurricane Harvey has caused to the regions impacted is catastrophic,” said Blue Rocks General Manager Andrew Layman. “The Blue Rocks are happy to contribute to the relief fund for Hurricane Harvey. I know our great fans will also be pleased to know that the proceeds from the multiple ways we plan to raise funds and the donation boxes that will be stationed at the ballpark will be aiding the victims affected by the storm.”

Hillcats Helping Hurricane Harvey Victims

As the area of southeast Texas continues to endure record rainfall following the initial devastation of Hurricane Harvey, the Lynchburg Hillcats are asking fans to help those affected by making donations throughout the upcoming homestand.

The Hillcats have partnered with Gleaning the World to accept specific items that will be sent to the affected area. These items include dry or canned pet food, cat litter, collars, and leashes. Fans can also make monetary donations at the ballpark. Minor League Baseball Charities has agreed to match all donations raised by its clubs, up to $10,000.

Fans who donate either a specific item from the list or money at the gate will receive a $4 ticket good for any type of seat at that night’s game. The Hillcats will also hold a 50/50 raffle at the games on Wednesday and Thursday to help raise funds. Lynchburg is at home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday against the Potomac Nationals. All games begin at 6:30 p.m., and the gates open at 5:30.

Lynchburg begins its three-game homestand Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Sean Brady (1-1, 6.52) will start for the Hillcats. It’s a Two-Fur Tuesday, so fans can enjoy Buy One, Get One Free tickets as well as $2 concession stand deals. Dash to host “Fill the Stands with Cans” on July 21

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 14, 2017) – The Winston-Salem Dash are proud to announce, in conjunction with the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association (PTAA) and WXII, the return of “Fill the Stands with Cans” for an eighth consecutive season at BB&T Ballpark. On Friday, July 21, before the Dash’s 7 p.m. game against the Salem Red Sox, PTAA volunteers will be positioned outside the gates of BB&T Ballpark collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

Last year, the Dash were among several organizations to help the PTAA provide a total of 17,832 meals to people in need in the northwest North Carolina area.

“Every summer Second Harvest’s resources are stretched thin because so many children who rely on free and subsidized meals at school are out of school for the summer,” said Jon Lowder, Executive Director of the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association. “That means that Second Harvest and its partner agencies have to supply more food to needy families, and we are so fortunate to be able to partner with three organizations that are dedicated to addressing the community’s needs. This year, we hope to raise 20,000 meals, and we’d love to reach 25,000.”

As a thank you from the Dash and the PTAA for helping support Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, any fan who brings a non-perishable food item or cash donation to Friday’s game will receive a ticket voucher that can be redeemed for any Dash home game in August. The Hillcats will kick off a six-game homestand on the 4th of July that will include the Salute to Service People Weekend. Fans can enjoy a pair of fireworks shows and a trio of giveaways to kick off July!

Jersey auction benefiting The Miracle League of the Triangle

The Mudcats players and field staff all wore special “Double Dare” themed game jerseys for 90s Nickelodeon Night on Saturday, June 17 at Five County Stadium.

Fans can now own those same, one-of-a-kind, game worn and autographed jerseys as they are currently available via online auction at http://auctions.carolinamudcats.com. The net proceeds of the online jersey auction will benefit the Miracle League of the Triangle.

The Miracle League of the Triangle exists to create positive life experiences for children and adults with special needs and for their families through baseball. Established in 2004, the Miracle League of the Triangle serves nearly 400 players with specials needs each year, across 30 teams.

Each jersey will arrive accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The jersey auction will end on June 25, 2017 at 7:59 PM ET.

Swing For a Cure Set to Return June 23rd

The Hillcats will have everyone wearing pink on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30 p.m. with their 11th Annual “Swing For A Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Centra’s Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates at 5:30 p.m. will receive a free pink commemorative t-shirt! All Hillcats players will don pink commemorative jerseys which will then be up for bid during a silent auction during the game. Fans will also have the chance to make a donation at the Box Office that night.

It’s estimated that there will be over 230,000 reported new cases of invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2017 and as many as 1 in 800 women in Virginia alone, may be diagnosed each year. The Susan G. Komen Foundation was created in 1982 by Komen’s sister and has since raised $2.5 billion for research, treatments, and support for survivors.

Keys Care Charity Golf Classic Scheduled for July 11

FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that the 22nd Keys Care Charity Golf Classic presented by Turning Point Financial will take place on Tuesday, July 11. This annual event will be held at Musket Ridge Golf Course. All proceeds from the tournament benefit Frederick Keys Care.

“Each year, Turning Point Financial selects several charity events to support and we are excited to be partnering with the Frederick Keys to support the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund this year,” said Alexandra Stickelman, Director of Sales and Marketing for Turning Point Financial. “Over the years, we’ve enjoyed sharing in the tradition of Frederick Keys baseball with our clients, and this year, we are especially grateful for the unique opportunity to partner with the Frederick Keys organization and give back to the community.”

Tournament registration begins at 8:00 a.m with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. The golf tournament format is captain’s choice. Players can enjoy breakfast sponsored by Wegmans, lunch at the turn provided by Roy Rogers as well as an awards luncheon catered by Buffalo Wild Wings. There will also be prizes given out for “longest drive” and “closest to the hole.”

Over the last 21 years, the Keys have raised over $100,000 for the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund, better known as Frederick Keys Care. In the fall of 1999, this fund was created to honor Joel Stephens, a compassionate Orioles minor leaguer who passed away suddenly at age 22.

This fund is part of the Community Foundation of Frederick County’s Universal Grant application funding program and supports local non-profit organizations that provide direct aid to Frederick County youth and young adults. Recipients of Keys Care grants for this year will be recognized at the awards luncheon following the golf tournament.
