Castano, pink jerseys power Spikes to win

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Daniel Castano delivered 7 2/3 strong innings on the mound, and Tyler Lancaster homered to produce the eventual game-winning run as the State College Spikes defeated the Auburn Doubledays, 2-1, on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Spikes (21-17) also helped the fight against breast cancer by donning Pink Boxing Robe Themed Jerseys as part of Paint the Park Pink Night, presented by Mount Nittany Health. The jerseys went up for bids in a Jersey-off-the-Back Auction that raised $3,500 for the Mount Nittany Health Foundation, with more to be raised through additional jersey auctions through MiLBAuctions.com and two more Spikes 50/50 Raffle drawings during the course of the season.

Castano (7-1) notched his league-leading seventh win as he yielded just two hits, two walks and a hit batsman while recording five strikeouts. The left-hander has now struck out 51 batters, most in the New York-Penn League, and walked just seven over 52 1/3 innings this season.

State College took the lead in the seventh as Yariel Gonzalez reached base on a two-base outfield error, then scored on Bryce Denton ‘s single to right. Denton was the lone Spike with multiple hits in the game.

Lancaster then gave the Spikes an insurance run as he slugged a 1-1 pitch from Auburn reliever Jeremy McKinney over the right-field wall for a solo homer, his second of the season. State College produced just three hits total on the night.

Auburn (15-24) threatened in the eighth by loading the bases, but could not score. The Doubledays then got within a run in the ninth when Jeyner Baez singled to the left side, but stranded runners on first and second to end the game.

Spencer Trayner (2) pitched the last 1 1/3 innings for the Spikes to earn the save. Trayner allowed a run on two hits and a walk, with his lone strikeout finishing the victory.

Doubledays starter Nick Raquet (0-1) was tremendous in his return home, as the State College Area High School alum allowed just one unearned run on two hits over a career-long five innings of work. The Nationals’ 2017 third-round draft choice also produced a strikeout in the effort, but took a tough loss.

Monday, the Spikes and Doubledays meet at 7:05 p.m. for the middle game of a three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. 6’6″, 19-year-old Cuban righthander Johan Oviedo (0-0) will make his first start of the season for State College. Oviedo is currently rated as the 23rd-best prospect in the Cardinals organization by MLBPipeline.com.

Auburn is slated to send left-hander Yonathan Ramirez (2-2) to the hill for his second start of the year against the Spikes.

The fun continues with Monday Buck Night, presented by 95.3 FM 3WZ. Fans can get into the park with $1 Outfield Bleacher seats, then enjoy $1 hot dogs, $1 small sodas and $1 peanut boats throughout the game.

The homestand concludes on Tuesday with the annual Super Splash Day game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, as Ike’s Kids Zone turns into the Splash Zone for kids of all ages. Bandits, American Bank donate $1,500 to YMCA

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Furthering the commitment to giving back to the local community, the Quad Cities River Bandits have donated $1,500 to the Scott County YMCA and Two Rivers YMCA. The funds were raised from ticket sales during the July 10 game at Modern Woodmen Park, which was sponsored by American Bank. The River Bandits annually donate more than $300,000 back to the Quad Cities community.

Scott County YMCA on the Iowa side and Two Rivers YMCA in Illinois will split the donation of funds raised from ticket sales to the 2,095 fans attending the game on Monday, July 10. American Bank was the title sponsor of the game, helping to facilitate the fundraising.

This is the latest in a long line of community efforts by the River Bandits. Already in 2017, the River Bandits have created the Bill Edmond seats, which honor the late local leader and provide two free box seats to every River Bandits game to deserving, underprivileged members of the Quad Cities community; expanded the club’s Bandit Scholars program, already the largest in all of Minor League Baseball, by adding Eastern Iowa Community College to its list of recipients; and partnered with the Bechtel Trust to create the new Carousel Corporation, a nonprofit designed to donate 100% of the proceeds from four new rides at Modern Woodmen Park back to underprivileged youth in the Quad Cities area.

“Paying for our young people to attend college and donating back to this great community are two things that we are delighted to do,” said team owner Dave Heller. “The River Bandits are 100 percent committed to making the Quad Cities the best possible place to live, work and raise a family for everyone who calls this great area home.”

In addition to the financial donations of over $300,000 a year, the River Bandits staff also volunteers over 1,000 hours of collective community service with local organizations, including the local YMCAs. Shorebirds Present Donation To Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute

SALISBURY, Md. — The Delmarva Shorebirds are proud to announce the results from the 2017 PRMC Pink Pitch Night to benefit the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute, as the team presented a check for $2,270.61.

“Our organization is always happy to help a very important part of the community such as the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute,” Shorebirds general manager Chris Bitters said. “Thank you to our fans who answered the call and showed their support with donations.”

The 2017 PRMC Pink Pitch Night was held on Saturday, May 13th at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium when the Delmarva Shorebirds faced the Greenville Drive. Henson Cancer Institute at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Sam Dekker to Appear at Timber Rattlers Strike Out Cancer Day on August 22

GRAND CHUTE, WI – Sam Dekker is coming to Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium for Strike Out Cancer Day on Tuesday, August 22. Strike Out Cancer Day is presented by McClone and Bergstrom Automotive with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hosting the Peoria Chiefs at 7:05pm.

Dekker, a former Wisconsin Badgers basketball star and current Los Angeles Clipper, will be available for a pre-game autograph session in the Fox Communities Credit Union Fox Club from 5:30 until 6:30pm. This opportunity is available for $25 and is limited to 100 people.  The ticket for the game is separate from the ticket to this pre-game autograph session. Autographs are limited to one item per person. Attendees may also have one photograph with Dekker per person. SALISBURY, Md. — The Delmarva Shorebirds are proud to announce the results from their July 4 jersey auction to benefit the VFW’s Military Assistance Program and Operation We Care, as the team presented a check for $5,258.02 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

“We made sure to include this great cause in our celebration of Independence Day along with fireworks on one of our biggest crowds of the year,” Shorebirds General Manager Chris Bitters said. “We were very excited and proud to see the generosity and support our fans showed through this auction of our specialty Patriotic jerseys.”

The jerseys, which were specially made for the game that night, resembled an American flag waving in the wind, while featuring the emblems of all five military branches on the back above the numbers. A silent auction for the game-worn jerseys was held during the game, with Shorebirds players and coaches presenting them to winning bidders.

Nearly $75K to Stand Up To Cancer, Smokies top Shrimp, 9-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp pitchers struck out 13 Tennessee Smokies – each time raising $5,300 from Fifth Third Bank for Stand Up To Cancer – and with 5,898 in attendance meaning another $5,898, the single night raised $74,798, while Tennessee won a 9-3 final Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Trevor Richards (2-2) fanned nine batters in the first six innings, including a stretch from the second to fourth inning that included seven straight strikeouts – one shy of the Southern League record. Right-hander Tyler Higgins struck out one, and left-hander Victor Payano struck out three. The 13 were two shy of the club’s season high.

Tennessee (16-11 second half, 52-44 overall) tallied a first-inning run, after center fielder Trey Martin hit a leadoff double to right field and scored on third baseman Jason Vosler‘s sacrifice fly. Jacksonville (13-14, 43-54) answered in the bottom of the inning against Chicago Cubs rehabbing left-hander Brett Anderson (2-2), as center fielder Kyle Barrett reached on an error by shortstop Carlos Penalver, and left fielder Austin Dean hit an RBI double to left field, reaching third base on left fielder Daniel Spingola‘s error. Jumbo Shrimp to wear Stars & Stripes caps July 1-3 to benefit Welcome Back Veterans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, along with all Minor League Baseball teams, will honor America and help raise much-needed funds for a worthy cause this Independence Day holiday weekend by wearing specially-designed red, white and blue caps from New Era Cap Company for games played from July 1-4.

All 160 Minor League Baseball teams will participate in the “Stars & Stripes” cap program and will wear the specialty caps as part of fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, an organization dedicated to addressing the ongoing needs of military personnel and their families.

Minor League Baseball will once again donate 100 percent of the proceeds from cap sales to Welcome Back Veterans. Since the program’s inception, MiLB has contributed annually to the veterans’ organization. The cap features a red, white, blue and silver version of the team logo and may be purchased in team stores and online by visiting team websites.

The Jumbo Shrimp will wear their caps for home games at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Saturday, July 1, through Monday, July 3, and the caps will be available at the souvenir store during those games beginning July 1. Chihuahuas Unveil Stars & Stripes Jerseys & Caps

EL PASO – June 23, 2017 – It’s a Fireworks Spectacular! as the Chihuahuas celebrate America’s birthday with the unveiling of the Stars and Stripes jerseys and caps to be worn during the July 1st, 2nd and 3rd GECU Independence Day Celebration games.

The jerseys will accompany the best fireworks in El Paso beginning with a postgame Fireworks Spectacular presented by KVIA and KISS FM on July 1st, a special fireworks presentation on July 2nd and an extended postgame fireworks program on July 3rd. Sunday’s celebration will also feature the Bank of America Manager for the Day where the Chihuahuas will recognize a former veteran as submitted by fans.

Made by OT Sports, the jerseys showcase the patriotic red, white & blue colors. The jersey features a white color block on the top half of the bodice and blue across the bottom covered in opaque stars. Red piping separates the two halves. The sleeves are white with red and blue trim.

The Chihuahuas will auction the game-worn Stars and Stripes jerseys on July 3rd, with proceeds benefiting the El Maida Shriners and the Chihuahuas Foundation.

The New Era 59FIFTY fitted Stars and Stripes cap, which made its initial debut in 2008, can be seen across Minor and Major League Baseball during the Independence Day weekend around the country. In addition to the fitted caps, the Chihuahuas Team Shop will also offer adjustable caps for the first time.

Season Seat Holders will be granted early entry into the Wednesday, June 28th Chihuahuas game with the option to purchase the cap beginning at 5 p.m. at the Chihuahuas Team Shop on Durango. Swing For a Cure Set to Return June 23rd

The Hillcats will have everyone wearing pink on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30 p.m. with their 11th Annual “Swing For A Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Centra’s Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.

Shuckers present check for $5,763.50 to Favre4Hope Fund at Memorial Hospital Foundation

BILOXI, MS – During the June 2 game against the Mobile BayBears, the Biloxi Shuckers wore Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Jerseys that were auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting Favre4Hope and Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Biloxi Shuckers fans answered the call once again, and before Saturday night’s game against Jacksonville, a check for $5,763.50 was presented to the Favre4Hope fund at Memorial Hospital Foundation from that evening’s jersey auction.

“Thank you for the generosity of Shuckers fans and the support you showed last week,” said Dave Estorge, Memorial Hospital Foundation president. “The Favre4Hope Foundation has matched dollar-for-dollar what was raised last week, plus additional donations, bringing the total contribution to $16,000. Thank you for joining us and Memorial Hospital Foundation the fight against breast cancer.”

Favre4Hope has helped women and men with breast cancer on the Gulf Coast and since 2006. The Favre4Hope fund has provided $144,512 in assistance to 93 breast cancer patients in our community.

“We were happy to partner with the Favre4Hope and Memorial Hospital Foundation for a great night at MGM Park to support a cause that affects so many people,” said Shuckers general manager Chuck Arnold. “Our staff is committed to serving the community and are always seeking ways to make a positive impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

The Shuckers have raised $11,873.67 during the first two jersey auction nights this season, benefitting March of Dimes and the Favre4Hope fund at Memorial Hospital. The Shuckers will partner with Mississippi Center for Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities for a night of awareness and special jersey auction during the July 16 game against the Birmingham Barons.

P-Nats to Host Autism Awareness Day on Sunday, June 11th with On-Field Jersey Auction and 1989 Prince William Cannons Replica Jersey Giveaway on Early Father’s Day at The Pfitz

Woodbridge, VA—The Potomac Nationals will celebrate Father’s Day a week early in a big way on Kids Day Sunday, June 11th during their 1:05pm Autism Awareness game against the Down East Wood Ducks (Texas Rangers) at Pfitzner Stadium.

With gates to The Pfitz set to open at 12:00pm, the first 1,000 fans (500 adults and 500 children) in attendance and into the Home of the Potomac Nationals will receive a replica jersey of the 1989 Prince William Cannons Carolina League Championship courtesy of the Potomac Nationals in either a youth size or an adult size.

The Prince William Cannons won the second league title in Potomac Baseball history.

Lexington Legends Partner with Robbie Ross Jr.’s Mission 108

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – The Lexington Legends are proud to partner with Robbie and Brittany Ross through their non-profit foundation Mission 108, a Human Rights organization focused on helping survivors of Human Trafficking and extreme poverty throughout the globe.

Robbie Ross Jr., a Lexington native and graduate of Lexington Christian Academy, is a current professional baseball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox organization. Robbie and his wife Brittany started Mission 108 in 2012 while working with underserved communities in Lexington. While traveling and exploring different cultures as an MLB family, they experienced firsthand the impact that modern day slavery and extreme poverty has on people throughout the globe. Robbie and Brittany realized that their mission needed to be centered on empowering the vulnerable and serving those affected by Human Trafficking.

Mission 108 came to the Legends through the Community Organization of the Night program, a free opportunity the Legends offer to non-profits throughout the region at every Legends home game, to provide a platform for those organizations to inform the public about their cause and good works.
