The Mudcats teamed with the ABC11 Weather Team for First Alert Weather Education Day at Five County Stadium on April 13. More than 5,000 students attended the game and were able to watch the Mudcats play while also learning about how the various ways in which weather factors into the outcome of a baseball game.

Woodbridge, VA— The Potomac Nationals, in cooperation with Prince William County Schools and the Education Foundation for Prince William County Schools, S.P.A.R.K, are excited to host the 10th annual Prince William County Middle School Day at Pfitzner Stadium on Wednesday morning. A special 10:35am first pitch is scheduled to accommodate every Prince William County Middle School who wants to attend. At the game, students and teachers get a chance to enjoy some day baseball, while learning about a career in sports.
Middle School Day has been a tradition in Prince William County and at Pfitzner Stadium for over a decade, and the Potomac Nationals are dedicated to supporting PWCS for many years to come. Over 25,000 students have participated in this event since its inception and the P-Nats strive to make an impact on our young citizens by offering them an annual field trip to The Pfitz with an educational component. Over 2,500 students are expected to be in attendance on Wednesday morning. Students receive a complimentary ticket to the game and complimentary lunch.
Our main focus here at the Pfitz is fun, and throughout the game, every student gets a chance to learn directly from P-Nats staff about their various jobs and opportunities in baseball. Video interviews of Potomac Nationals front office members are regularly played between innings, explaining the puzzle pieces that make up a sports franchise. The P-Nats support students progressing through to the end goal of any career, both in and out of sports, and every member of the organization is available to all of our local students for advice and guidance through middle school and beyond. We hire PWC students as early as age 14 to work a variety of jobs during game days. The majority of our game day operations would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our high school students. The Potomac Nationals will always support PWCS and our students as we work in conjunction with the PWCS to create the greatest possible future for all of our children in PW County. We hope to continue to impact our students’ lives at our new ballpark, planned for Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge.
This event is also one of many opportunities for the P-Nats to support our military. Members of the United States Air Force COMM Squadron East- North Capital Region will volunteer, preparing lunches and operating our concession stand before and during the game. After the game, the P-Nats will make a donation to the group as a thank you for their help at the stadium and for their service in the United States Air Force.

SALT LAKE CITY (May 4, 2015) – On Monday, May 11, the Salt Lake Bees and the Utah State Office of Education will host more than 13,000 students at the Prevention Dimensions Kids Day, with free admission courtesy of Med One Capital. The Bees vs. Reno Aces game has a special start time of 10:35 a.m. at Smith’s Ballpark.
This is the 13th edition of the Prevention Dimensions Kids Day. The fifth and sixth grade students in attendance will be treated to an opening ceremony on the field where State of Utah First Lady Jeanette Herbert will declare the day as Prevention Dimensions Kids Day in Utah, which promotes drug and alcohol prevention. A color guard presentation will feature students from Lake Ridge Elementary School.
Prevention Dimensions is Utah’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities curriculum, which supports the Utah State Office of Education pre-kindergarten through 12th grade health core. The program strives to give students a strong foundation of effective violence and substance abuse prevention skills. The program began in 1982 as a joint effort between the Utah State Division of Substance Abuse, Utah State Department of Health, Utah State Office of Education, and Utah State PTA.
Prevention Dimensions Day is part of the Bees organization’s ongoing commitment to community outreach, health and wellness and youth development.

The Tri City ValleyCats will host its first ever Education Day at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. to support the organization’s mission to create “Fans for Life” in a safe and clean environment.
The ValleyCats created a curriculum that includes character development and anti-bullying facets, as well as traditional educational subject matter as it relates to the game of baseball. This curriculum was available online to schools throughout the Capital Region this spring and will culminate in an all-encompassing educational field trip when the ValleyCats host the Lowell Spinners.
The ValleyCats existing “Strike Out Bullying” program, with BlueShield of Northeastern New York, focuses on educating students about the importance of treating others equally and standing up for their peers. This has included in-school assemblies and students attending Education Day will be encouraged to recite the ValleyCats “Peace Pledge” as a part of the day’s curriculum.
“We are very excited to host this first-time event at the stadium,” Assistant General Manager Matt Callahan said. “Our team has tried to create an event where students have the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom, spend time with peers and enjoy an educational day at the ballpark.”
Additional activities will provide students with real world applications in the areas of mathematics, history and geography. Several local organizations have supported this initiative and helped make these field trips possible for Capital Region schools. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is a lead partner for the Education Day event and supports educational opportunities throughout the area.

MANCHESTER, NH – In a time when school budgets are being slashed and squeezed, often at the cost of educational field trips, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats partnered with two local foundations to provide thousands of Manchester school children with a school day at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Youk’s Kids, the foundation of former Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis, and E&R Cleaners purchased tickets so that nearly five thousand students could enjoy a field trip to the ballpark-turned-classroom for Manchester Public Schools Day on Wednesday morning.
“Youk’s Kids and E&R Cleaners have been tremendously generous in providing their support for this initiative this year,” said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. “Without them, it’s likely that these children would’ve missed out on a unique educational experience in what is undoubtedly one of largest and most fun ‘classrooms’ they will enjoy this year.”
In addition to enjoying the action on the field, the school children were introduced to a variety of learning elements throughout the ballpark. The Fisher Cats invited several local attractions to provide learning stations that covered a wide range of subjects, including astronomy, wildlife, fire safety, financial education, and math and science.
“As a foundation, Youk’s Kids is constantly striving to provide opportunities that enhance the health and well-being of children in New England,” said Youk’s Kids Board Co-Vice President Tina Cantu. “Teaming with the Fisher Cats for this special day game provides these students with an activity that is not only fun, but can lead to a greater interest in learning.”
“Being a family-run business that started here in Manchester, we know the value and importance in creating educational opportunities for the children in our city,” said E&R Cleaners President Rick Botnick. “We hope that these students had a lot of fun and were able to experience something new at the ballpark for the very first time.”

(Fort Mill, S.C.) — Knights Stadium, home of the Charlotte Knights since 1990, is set to become a “bully-free” zone during the upcoming 2013 season as the Knights and The Foundation for Respect Ability are introducing an Anti-Bullying program that will focus on educating kids, teachers, and parents on the importance of living a bully-free life. The program will feature two 11:15 a.m. games during the month of April focused on Education Days for the surrounding school districts of North Carolina & South Carolina. The first game is Tuesday, April 16 and the second game is set for Wednesday, April 24. Both games are presented by Duke Energy, Barton Malow, and Midrex Technologies, Inc.
“Partnering with the Foundation for Respect Ability enhances the educational component of these two dates and expands our commitment to providing opportunities for the community to enjoy a game at the stadium,” said Knights Director of Ticket Sales & Hospitality Sean Owens. “This program gives us a great platform to provide important information about the seriousness of bullying in our life and how to identify, respond, and prevent these acts from occurring.”
Featuring interactive concourse displays, a pre-game educational performance and in-game trivia/PSA’s, participating schools and organizations will receive a full day of education and entertainment. It is 10 o’clock on a rainy Thursday morning and McCoy Stadium already is buzzing.
The Pawtucket Red Sox game against Rochester is still two hours away, yet there are kids everywhere. The parking lots are filling with school buses.
McCoy Stadium draws plenty of kids for every Pawtucket Red Sox game. But why two hours before game time on a weekday morning? Augusto “Cookie” Rojas Jr., the PawSox general sales manager, smiles when someone asks.
“It’s part of our Baseball in Education program,” Rojas explains. “It’s something we started four years ago and had 50 kids involved. Today we have 1,400.”
The program is the latest in what seems to be the team’s never-ending involvement with the community. Rojas is the man behind it. He organized it based on experiences he had with his own kids.
“I have kids in school. They go on field trips sometimes,” Rojas said. “I thought, ‘There has to be a way for us to offer something here’ … I started tinkering around and talking to some of my friends in baseball and I came up with this idea.
“I ran it past Mike (Tamburro, the team president) and Lou (Schwechheimer, the vice president general manager) and they said go with it, run with it.”
Rojas was told that any field trips students take must be educational. So he went to one of the state’s training grounds for teachers, Rhode Island College.
“We have great partners at Rhode Island College. They’ve helped us develop a curriculum that meets all the educational guidelines. They made it a project for their seniors, their student-teachers,” Rojas related.
The educational aspect is why all the students were there so early.
On the first-base side, junior high students from Middletown were being timed throwing baseballs. They were then given a sheet in which they could calculate how fast they were throwing the ball.
On the third-base side, a large group of students from Winman Junior High in Warwick was listening to a presentation on the longest game in baseball history and doing it directly in front of the display that honors the 33-inning game against Rochester (which also was the opponent Thursday) in 1981.
With the help of the teachers and professors at RIC, components were drawn up not only in math and history, but also with social studies and science. Once students were seated, the video board in right field showed videos on the science of baseball, explaining how a ball flies and proper fielding techniques.
The program took a major leap forward this year because of another agreement Rojas worked out. In the first three years he ran the program, a number of schools expressed interest in participating, but had to decline because of costs.
“It is very expensive to get buses,” Rojas noted. “The First Student bus company has become a sponsor this year. They really cut their prices for us.”
The event Thursday was the second of two such days this year. Students from North Kingstown, Warwick, Middletown, Cranston, Providence (the first time a Providence school has participated) and Franklin, Mass., were among those taking part.
The educational aspect did not stop once the game began. Rojas loves keeping score at games. Minute Man Press has joined the program. Students are given booklets that contain educational material, including trivia questions. And there is a section that teaches students how to keep a scorebook.
“It’s been a labor of love. It’s a great joy for me,” Rojas said.
He received a special bonus late in the game.
“I have a daughter (Madison) who is an eighth-grader. Her school was the first one here today. She sent me a text saying, ‘It was awesome, dad. I have fun.’ ”
Carolyn Higgins, who was with fellow Winman teacher Norm Bouthillier, said there was only one problem.
“It’s really nice what they do,” she said. “The only part that could be better is the weather. We came last year, too, and the weather was bad then, too.”

Education Days are two of the biggest days of the season for the Stockton Ports, Single-A Advanced affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, but this year they were bigger and better than ever. This year, the Ports Education Days were held on May 11 & May 23, both 11:05 AM day games. A total of more than 50 different schools attended the Education Days. Each child and teacher received a $6 package that included a ticket to the game, a hot dog, chips and a drink. Not only do schools use these days as an end-of-the-year field trip, but the students have a chance to interact with the players, as well as learn new things about baseball.
Before the games on May 11 & May 23, four students were chosen to ask Ports pitchers Josh Lansford, Gary Daley, Jr., AJ Huttenlocker, Chris Mederos and Scott Deal educational questions down on the field in front of the crowd. Afterwards the students were able to get autographs from the players.
During each game, students were randomly chosen to be a guest PA announcer, Radio announcer, to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, as well as start the game as our Play Ball Kid and to lead the crowd in “Take me out to the Ballgame”. Stockton’s very own 6-year-old super star Kayla Talania from Creekside Elementary blew the crowd away with her version of the national anthem on May 11. Sisters Micah & Grace Ann sang for the crowd on May 23.
Clifford the Big Red Dog from Barnes and Noble was at both games, as were many local businesses promoting their education programs including Sylvan Learning Center and University of the Pacific.
“This is my first year with the Ports, so it was my first year coordinating the Education Days,” said Account Executive Peter Lopez. “With two sold out crowds, I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. You could tell that all the kids were having a great time and were really enjoying their time at the ballpark.”

The Bradenton Marauders, the Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, held its annual Education Day on April 25th at 10:00am for the students of Manatee County. Over 920 students participated, enjoying a beautiful day of baseball while having the opportunity to learn at the ball park.
Marauders Education Day was a success, with the help of local vendors including Mixon Fruit Farms, Mote Marine Laboratory, South Florida Museum, Manatee County Substance Abuse Coalition and Manatee County Library, who set up educational stations inside the ball park during the game. 
Along with the local vendors, the Bradenton Marauders established three interactive education stations; a math, geography and language table, each bringing an educational approach to baseball. The math station taught students how to calculate ERA and batting averages, the geography table displayed a world map pinpointing the hometowns of each of the Marauder players and Marauder language table depicted English words found in baseball and their Spanish translations.
Tuesday was a picture perfect day for a baseball game. The stands at Victory Field were nearly full for a rare 11 a.m. game. That’s because an estimated 13,000 students from across the state were invited to share in the fun.
St. Joan of Arc advanced math students scored a homerun getting to come to Victory Field but, they couldn’t just kick back, they had to compute.
“We have to write down their name and write what they do, like, if they get on base or if they get an out,” said seventh grader, Shani Ayers.
Brent Kahl is a St. Joan of Arc volunteer. He comes every other week to help students with advanced math activities. He’s been using an online curriculum designed by the Indianapolis Indians. The program is called, “Baseball in Education.”
“It’s a great way, I think, to put math in a real world setting and get a lot of fun out of it too,” said Kahl.
Indians Director of Marketing and Communications Chris Herndon said, “
We make sure it meets the Indiana standards. There’s math activities and science activities — all that pertain to baseball.”
The Indians have partnered with the Indianapolis Public School District. The team donates thousands of tickets to the students each year. IUPUI is also a partner and underwrites tickets for students across the state.
But the most important numbers Tuesday: Indians 5, Syracuse 4.
