Fox Valley High School Senior All-Star Games at Neuroscience Group Field on July 10

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The best high school seniors in the area will take part in two Fox Valley All-Star Games at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday, July 10 presented by TDS. An All-Day, General Admission pass will be available for $6. Game one starts at noon with the second game to follow the conclusion of game one by about thirty minutes.

The afternoon will open with Team Cardinal against Team Silver at noon. Game two features Team White against Team Black. Rosters of the teams are available by clicking on the team name.

The parking lot opens at 10:30am with free parking. The Neuroscience Group Field gates open at 11:00am. Concessions will available during the games.

“We’re excited to host these games and provide an opportunity for many of the top local high school talent to play the final game of their high school careers,” said Aaron Hahn, vice president of the Timber Rattlers.

Schools out for summer and the fun at the ballpark has just begun. So the Bisons want to reward all the hard-working kids in WNY and Southern Ontario with a FREE TICKET to their next game at Sahlen Field.

Bisons Report Card Days are back, Saturday, July 9 (6:05pm) and Sunday, July 10 (1:05pm) at Sahlen Field, presented by NY’s 529 College Savings Program. IronPigs to host Collegiate Showcase on July 30th and 31st

High School Baseball Players will be able to showcase their talents to colleges on a variety of levels

Allentown, Pennsylvania (30 June 2022) – Coca-Cola Park is opening its doors to high school baseball players for a “Collegiate Showcase” on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. Scouts from multiple colleges will be in attendance as high school players look to showcase their talents for a chance to play baseball at the collegiate level.

Saturday, July 30 will run from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and will be a pro-style workout. The day will be broken into two sessions and consist of individual workouts such as defense, on-field batting practice, 60-yard dash, and throwing velocity.

Sunday, July 31 will begin at 8 a.m. and will consist of scrimmages throughout the day. Each player will be assigned a team and a number and will play a six or seven inning game.

Registration for players who play one position is $250 per player. Two-way players are $350 per player. Price includes a t-shirt. Players can click here to reserve their spot. The first 120 players are guaranteed to attend the showcase.

Colleges participating so far include Moravian University, Muhlenberg College, George Washington University, Kings College, Centenary University, Drew University, Messiah University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Lehigh Carbon Community College, and Penn State University – Berks.

Missions to Host Senior Celebration on June 23rd 

80 Local High School Baseball Seniors Will Compete in Two Games at 4:30 and 7 p.m.

SAN ANTONIO – In a partnership with McCombs Ford West and the San Antonio Area Baseball Coaches Association, the San Antonio Missions Baseball Club will host a Senior Celebration on Thursday, June 23rd. The event will consist of 80 local high school baseball seniors broken into four teams.

“We are honored to be in partnership with the San Antonio Missions and McCombs Ford West, to be able to have the Senior Celebration, to showcase the best players in San Antonio and surrounding areas,” said Eric Forestier, President of SAABCA.

Tickets for this event will be available beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The general admission tickets can be purchased at the 1st Base Box Office at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Adult tickets will cost $11 while student tickets will cost $9.

“We at McCombs Ford West are thrilled to partner with the Missions and SAABCA and put on this showcase for so many talented ball players,” said McCombs Ford West General Manager Henry Finley. We are happy to provide these young men with a platform to showcase their talents.”

Polar Park Celebrates Juneteenth, sponsors Black Music Festival

The Worcester Red Sox concluded their six-game series Sunday in an afternoon matinee against the Toledo Mud Hens. In addition to Father’s Day festivities Sunday, Polar Park played host to multiple celebrations of Juneteenth, the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865.

A trio of local musicians, Charles Ketter, Lydia Fortune, and Miss Shirley Johnson, rocked along Summit Street to begin Juneteenth commemoration. Patrons enjoyed spirituals as well as jazz and blues stylings pre-game.

For the Heart of Worcester, fans welcomed Dr. Thomas Doughton, a senior lecturer for interdisciplinary and special studies at The College of the Holy Cross. Doughton was instrumental in the creation of Worcester’s Black History Trail. Alongside Doughton was another influential figure to the trail’s creation: Worcester City Councilor Khrystian King.

The trail encompasses a near 300-year history in Worcester through several landmarks of historical significance across the Heart of the Commonwealth. The display tells the unfiltered stories of those who lived in the city as far back as the 18th Century, and had its first five stops dedicated earlier this month.

Sunday’s Ceremonial First Pitch was delivered by Ernest Floyd, who was honored as the Hometown Hero. Floyd created and serves as executive producer of Unity Radio, 97.9 FM. Unity Radio helps create an avenue through which members of the Worcester community can help one another.

Before the performance of the national anthem, Polar Park raised the Juneteenth flag alongside the American flag, and heard a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by 15-year-old Liyah McBridge. The Star-Spangled Banner was performed by P.E. James.

Social justice is one of the WooSox Foundation’s four areas of focus. To further strengthen the club’s commitment to supporting the local Black community, the Foundation announced its sponsorship of The Black Music Festival with a $1,500 contribution, which was dedicated before first pitch Sunday.

The festival will be hosted by the Uncommonwealth Group on Saturday, June 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Patrons can expect a full day of musical performances, entertainment, food, vendors, and building bridges to the community through music on the Worcester Common.

Sunday’s game was a victory for the WooSox on the back of Ryan Fitzgerald’s 5th inning three-run home run and Connor Seabold’s (5-1, 1.95) quality start.

Sunday concluded with a special Father’s Day Catch on the Field.

GRAND SLAM Home Run Readers Amass Nearly 3 Million Minutes

Reading Program Reaches Record Heights

Rockland County, NY (June 20, 2022) – With nearly 3 million minutes of reading in the books for this season, the New York Boulders’ “Home Run Readers” program continues to build its successful reputation – one book at a time.

In conjunction with NY529, the partnership with the Boulders has helped promote literacy in elementary and middle schools throughout the Lower Hudson Valley, the Bronx and Northern New Jersey. First started in 2013, this year’s program saw a record 38 schools participate with more than 3,500 students opening the books.

The challenge ran from April 25 and ended on May 15.

The rules were simple: only out of school reading counted.

Each school designated a coordinator to record each student’s reading times, as well as a total for their school.

When all was said and done, each reader fell into one of five prize categories:

  • Under 400 minutes earned you a single and a participation certificate
  • At least 400 minutes had you on second base with a double, a participation certificate and two tickets to a specified Boulders’ game this season.
  • Up to 800 minutes and you legged out a triple to go along with a participation certificate and four tickets to a specified 2022 Boulders’ game
  • 1300 minutes or more had you circling the bases with a home run, a participation certificate, four tickets to a specified game where you also had the privilege of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

The top reader for the year, Yankilvio Molina of the Highland Falls Intermediate School in Highland Falls, NY, will be rewarded with on-field recognition at a Boulders’ game, as well as an autographed baseball and a photo taken with manager T.J. Stanton and Boulder Bird.

Teachers who had their classes participate, along with their designated program coordinator and school principal were awarded five tickets to a future Boulders’ game, as well as a 10% discount at the team store located inside Clover Stadium.

This year’s top five reading schools were:

  2. Highland Falls Intermediate School in Highland Falls, NY
  3. Edgemont Elementary School in Montclair, NJ

Boulders to Award Six Scholarships to High School Grads

Rockland County, NY (June 20, 2022) – Are you heading to college this coming Fall and are leaning towards a career in Sports Management or Business? If you are, you should be applying for the NY529/New York Boulders University scholarship.

Sports Management is one of the fastest growing college majors in the country and Business is an essential component of the industry. A career in sports is also much more than playing or watching a game, there are a number of fields where people work behind the scenes such as facilities operations, public relations and marketing, corporate sponsorships, community relations, event presentation, in-game entertainment, sports medicine, graphics, control room operations, etc.

This summer, the Boulders will be donating six scholarships worth $529 apiece into a student’s NY529 account. The scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors who are seeking to pursue such careers.

To be eligible, a student must fill out and submit the scholarship application on the Boulders’ website at www.nyboulders.com. Applications need to be received by July 15, with the winners announced the week of July 25.

The winners will be honored with on-field recognition at a Boulders’ game the week of Aug. 1.

Submitted applications must include the student’s name, e-mail address, phone number, name of high school, projected college or university planning to attend beginning this fall and his/her projected major area of study.

Three questions need to be answered:

  1. What are you planning to study and why are you interested?
  2. What traits or skills do you possess that will transfer to a career in the sports or business industries?
  3. What experience have you had (aside from playing if you plan a career in sports) that you feel have prepared you for a future career in sports or business?

IHSAA Baseball State Finals Matchups Set for June 17-18 at Victory Field

INDIANAPOLIS – The 55th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Baseball State Finals return to Victory Field for a 24th time on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18. The 2A and 3A championships will be played Friday with the 1A and 4A matchups slated for Saturday.

“The Indiana High School Baseball State Finals is one of Victory Field’s greatest summer traditions,” said Randy Lewandowski, Indianapolis Indians President and General Manager. “The championship atmosphere both on the field and in the stands is special, and we look forward to creating lasting memories for the student-athletes, coaches and fans.”

General admission tickets will be available starting at 12 PM ET on Thursday, June 16. GA tickets are $12 and kids 5 and under receive free admission per IHSAA guidelines. Fans may also contact any of the eight respective schools competing in the championships to purchase tickets. Each night will be sold as a separate session; each ticket is good for both games that night. Fans for the visiting teams will sit on the first base side of the seating bowl while fans for the home teams will sit on the third base side.

Saturday MVP Field Day to Celebrate 2022 OKC Dodgers MVP Program

OKLAHOMA CITY – More than 17,000 second-, third- and fourth-grade students from across the state of Oklahoma participated in the sixth year of the Oklahoma City Dodgers MVP Program: Encouraging STEM Education presented by Devon Energy and Olsson.

The free OKC Dodgers MVP Program incentivizes teachers and students to participate in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum, rewarding students for their STEM achievements both inside and outside of the classroom.

“Devon is committed to engaging with students and teachers to promote STEM learning in classrooms across the state,” said Christina Rehkop, Devon’s community relations director. “The MVP Program is a fun and exciting way to bring skills and learning to life through the lens of baseball.”

The program was offered statewide in Oklahoma for a fourth straight year and expanded to include second-grade classrooms for the first time for the 2021-22 school year.

“Olsson is excited to be partnering with the Oklahoma City Dodgers’ MVP Program that celebrates the achievements of young students throughout the state in STEM education,” said Jimmy Sparks, Western Region Leader for Olsson.

The sixth year of the program culminates Saturday with MVP Field Day at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark — an exclusive event for participating MVP students and teachers, as well as their families. More than 700 students and teachers from throughout Oklahoma are scheduled to attend.

MVP Field Day will include STEM activities presented by Devon Energy, Olsson, SWOSU/Sage Camp, Women’s Energy Network, Engage Learning, OERB, Science Museum Oklahoma, First Robotics, Mad Science, Rose State College, NASA, Women in Technology and OG&E.

Dragons to Recognize “Community All Stars” Recipient During Game on June 2

Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize a “Community All-Stars” recipient during a special inning break of the Dragons game tonight, Thursday, June 2nd, against the South Bend Cubs at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.

The Dragons Community All-Stars Program honors individuals who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of life in the Miami Valley. They could be firefighters or police officers, doctors or good Samaritans. It could be a first responder or a volunteer. The Dragons are going to highlight these Community All-Stars at games all summer long.

More than a decade ago, a group of Dayton business leaders got together to brainstorm how to get more kids exposed to adventures and careers in aviation, aeronautics, and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related fields.

What came of those meetings was more than just a curriculum, it was an adventure for campers that has now become known as Air Camp, and it’s based right here in the Dayton region.

Air Camp provides campers from 4th grade through high school with a hands-on, educational adventure in aviation and aeronautics every summer. Each camp offers something specific for students and they’re all bolstered with resources to continue their growth in STEM education. There are even camps that teachers can be a part of that allow them to take the curriculum back to all of their students in the fall.

Air Camp students take flight ground school, chart their course and fly as a student pilot. They also explore exciting aviation sites around Dayton, and they get to go behind the scenes and meet scientists from the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB.

The first Air Camp back in 2010 started with just 40 students, but since those humble beginnings, their reach has soared, connecting with over 33,000 students and 88 teachers from 33 states just last year.

Expanding Air Camp’s mission and their programming is made possible only through the generosity of local donors, and their fundraising efforts make it possible for them to make the program accessible and affordable to anyone who wishes to be a part of the camp. There is so much more on the horizon for Air Camp, and each donor is pivotal to opening greater opportunities for every camper.

This event is the first of five special Community All-Stars spotlights at Dragons games this season. Community All-Stars is presented Flying Ace Express Carwash. Additional tributes are scheduled for July 22, August 10, and September 1 each focused on a different individual or organization who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of life in the Miami Valley.

The Dragons play at beautiful, downtown Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District and are scheduled to play 42 more home games during the regular season. 518 Futures High School Baseball Classic Returns to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on June 9th

TROY, NY – The Tri-City ValleyCats have partnered with Built2Win to showcase the best high school baseball talent across New York’s Capital Region as Joseph L. Bruno Stadium will play host to the 518 Futures High School Baseball Classic for the second time on Thursday, June 9. The inaugural game was held in 2019 but the event was paused for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each team will consist of players from schools within each of the five classifications across New York’s Section 2. The rosters have been selected by a committee comprised of coaches, officials, and local media. Built2Win is providing each team with uniforms and is the designer of the 518 Futures High School Baseball Classic logo. This year’s game will begin at 6:30 PM with a new Home Run Derby taking place beforehand.

It’s a great opportunity to showcase the tremendous local talent playing high school baseball in and around the Capital Region,” said Matt Callahan, ValleyCats Vice President & General Manager. “It will be exciting to see our future stars play on the same diamond where so many major leaguers started their professional careers.”

Joseph L. Bruno Stadium has been home to the Tri-City ValleyCats since 2002, first as part of the New York-Penn League until 2020 and now as a member of the Frontier League, an MLB Partner League. Aside from the 53 ValleyCats home games, the stadium hosts the Hudson Valley Community College baseball team, regular-season high school games, regional postseason play, travel and charity tournaments, and many other special events.

Fireflies Launch Baseball Legends Creativity Contest

   

COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia Fireflies announced today that they are launching a Baseball Legends Creativity Contest for children from kindergarten to 12th grade. The Baseball Legends Creativity Contest encourages children to learn more about local baseball legend Larry Doby and the impact he had on the game of baseball. Based on what they learned about Larry Doby, kids will then creatively express how Doby’s story has encouraged them to overcome challenges they may face in their own lives. Three contest winners, one from each age bracket, will be selected and recognized in-game during Negro League Weekend Friday, June 17.

The creative expression can take any form; including but not limited to essays, poems, spoken word, paintings or drawings. Submissions must answer the following prompt: “What challenges did Larry Doby face throughout his life and baseball career, how did he overcome those challenges, and how has he influenced you to overcome the challenges you may face in your life?”

Larry Doby is best-known for breaking the American League color barrier with the Cleveland Indians a few months after Jackie Robinson broke the National League color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Doby was also the second black manager of any Major League club, after Frank Robinson accomplished the task a few years before him.

If that weren’t enough trailblazing, Doby also broke the ABL color barrier. The ABL was a precursor to the NBA. Despite the hardships Doby was placed under, he became one of the most decorated baseball players of all time. He was the first black player to homer in the World Series. He became a seven-time MLB All-Star with five-100 RBI and eight-20 HR seasons, which helped prompt his spot in Cooperstown. The infielder was inducted in the MLB Hall of Fame in 1998, five years before his death.

Children participating will be broken into three groups based on grade level: Kindergarten – 5th grade, 6th grade – 8th grade, and 9th grade – 12th grade. One winner will be selected from each group.

MGM Park To Host Gulf Coast Diamond Classic on May 21

The Biloxi Shuckers and BCSG 360 announced today they will host the Gulf Coast Diamond Classic on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at MGM Park. The Gulf Coast Diamond Classic will feature HBCUs Jackson State University (Jackson, MS) and Mississippi Valley State University (Itta Bena, MS).

The contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The gates at MGM Park will open one hour prior to game start time.

Fans have three ticket options for the Gulf Coast Diamond Classic:

  • Adult Ticket – $20 includes entry for game.
  • Youth Ticket – $10 includes entry for game.
  • Premium Ticket – $30 includes entry for game and premium seating access.

When purchasing tickets, unless buying premium tickets, select ‘BERM’ for your ticket option. For the Gulf Coast Diamond Classic, these will allow you to sit anywhere in the seating bowl that is not in the premium section.

Jackson State University will serve as the away team for the game and Mississippi Valley State University will be the home team.
