Food Drive Benefits Good Shepherd Food Bank and Kicks-Off National Hunger Action Month

Portland, Maine– The Portland Sea Dogs have partnered with the Dead River Company to host a food drive at Hadlock Field on Saturday, August 31st when the Sea Dogs take on the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) in a single-admission doubleheader at 5:00 PM.

The food drive is benefitting the Good Shepherd Food Bank and kicks-off National Hunger Action Month (September). Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game that will be collected by the Good Shepherd for distribution throughout their vast network in helping feed those at risk of hunger in Maine.

The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will also receive Dead River Company hats.

Before the game, there will also be an on field check ceremony where Dead River Company will be presenting a donation to Good Shepherd as part of their season long promotion with the Sea Dogs, Score 4 for Hunger.

Tickets for the game can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com. The doubleheader will consist of two seven-inning games. Tickets are good for both games.

The Mud Hens and Kroger have teamed up to present Kroger Food Drive Fridays at Fifth Third Field! The final Kroger Food Drive Friday is coming up on Friday, August 16. Each person that donates a minimum of three items to the food drive will receive a reusable shopping bag, courtesy of Kroger!

There will be collection bins at all Fifth Third Field entrances.

CITY HARVEST COLLECTION – AUGUST 13th

Join us at MCU Park on Wednesday, August 13th as we collect food for City Harvest at the front gates of the ballpark.  Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to the ballpark and will receive a raffle ticket in exchange for their donation.  Those who donate will be eligible for  prizes including signed items, $50 gift cards from MCU and more.

Can’t make it to the park?  You can still donate to the virtual food drive HERE .  A $20 donation feeds 11 people for a week.

Help make sure no Rhode Islander goes hungry this summer. We need your help collecting food to meet the increased need. Fans bringing a “Pasta or Protein” Item (Pasta, Tuna, Peanut Butter, Beans, etc) can go by the PawSox Wives table located at the McCoy Stadium Main Entrance on Tuesday, July 30 and receive an autograph photo of a PawSox player. All food will be donated to the Rhode Island Food Bank as part of the Citizens Bank Strike Out Hunger Program.

The first 2,500 fans at the Friday, July 26 game will receive a box of macaroni and are encouraged to use it as a noisemaker to cheer on the team. After the game fans can take the macaroni home for a tasty meal or donate it back to the Kroger Food Drive Friday event! Kroger will be matching the amount of boxes given away on Macaroni Day with an additional donation of 2,500 boxes! All Kroger Food Drive Friday events benefit the Northwest Ohio Food Bank.

Jamestown Jammers to Hold Can Food Drive

Team up with Area Credit Unions & Harley-Davidson of Jamestown

Jamestown, NY- For the fourth straight year, the Jamestown Jammers will team up with the Jamestown Chapter of the Credit Union Association of New York for a canned food drive. New this year, Harley-Davidson of Jamestown has joined the event to bring extra support to the Community. This drive will benefit the St. Susan Center in Jamestown and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization in Dunkirk.

The food drive will take place at a Jammers game on July 18th against the Connecticut Tigers at 7:05 p.m. Items will start being collected at the gates when they open at 6:00pm. A Harley-Davidson trailer will be on site at Diethrick Park to collect non-perishable food items. All fans who donate will have a chance to win a wide array of prizes; the more items fans donate the more chances they will have to WIN! The prizes include amongst other items, $250 worth of Harley-Davidson items, autographed balls, and team signed bats.

Last year, the Jammers and the local credit unions combined to collect 500 pounds of food to benefit the St. Susan Center, which provides hot, nutritious meals to those in need and the CYO which also helps feed the hungry through its food closet program. In the past three years, over 1,250 pounds of food have been donated.

This year, the participating Credit Unions from the Jamestown Chapter are; Affinity One FCU, Cattaraugus County EFCU, Greater Chautauqua FCU, Inner Lakes FCU, Jamestown Area Community FCU, Jamestown Post Office ECU, Southern Chautauqua FCU, and SUNY Fredonia FCU to collect food for both food banks.

Tickets are available for next Thursday’s game at all of the Credit Union locations listed above, plus at Harley-Davidson of Jamestown’s store front. Fans need to bring their tickets to the park along with at least one non-perishable food item for admission to the game and a chance at the prizes being given out.

LumberKings to Host Food Drive Night

Two perishable food items get fans free admission

Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings are teaming with the community and area youth baseball/softball teams to help local food pantries. On Tuesday, June 25th, fans who bring in two perishable food items will receive a free general admission ticket to that night’s game against Wisconsin at 7:00.

Teams that choose to participate will turn in their donations at Ashford University Field on Tuesday, prior to the game. Each participating team member will get in free to that night’s game for their efforts. Participating teams will also be recognized on the field starting at 6:30 with the game starting at 7:00.

Squirrels To Help Support Oklahoma Tornado Relief Effort

RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, are asking their fans to step forward and help the Oklahoma Tornado Relief Efforts on Sunday, June 2nd at The Diamond. The Squirrels will have a Better Box mobile storage unit in front of the main gate for items to be donated and shipped to a relief distribution center in Oklahoma. The items needed are specific and are listed below. The storage unit is scheduled to be ready outside of the main gate beginning at 11:00AM and will remain there throughout the Squirrels game vs. the Erie SeaWolves. Gates for the game open at 12:30PM with first pitch scheduled for 2:05PM. Fans who donate items to the effort will receive a raffle ticket to win one of several prizes. Winners will be drawn during the game.

“We want to do all we can to help out not only our community but people in general,” said Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We are delighted to help in this endeavor as we can only begin to see from the pictures the magnitude of the devastation. We encourage Squirrels fans from all over the region to help us help Oklahoma.”

Items Needed; canned food, Band-Aids, Q-Tips, thermometers, dental floss, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sports drinks and bottled water, baby blankets, shoes of all sizes, medical ointments and creams, feminine hygiene products, razors, travel hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial wipes, empty plastic containers, snack size chips, underwear and socks, Ziploc bags, senior supplies (hearing aid batteries, denture cream Depends), glasses (reading and prescription), shampoo and soap, work gloves, and tarps.

The items will be shipped to Journey Church in Norman, Oklahoma. The church has been set up as a shelter, distribution and relief center. Hopewell Baptist Church in New Kent is helping coordinate the efforts.

Sunday, June 2nd is also Superhero Day at The Diamond presented by Health Diagnostics Laboratory, Inc. The first 2,500 fans ages 14 and under will receive a free comic book, and all fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes. Fans are also encouraged to be a hero for someone in need by donating any and all items listed above. Additionally, Sunday is a Kroger Squirrels Tails Sunday and members receive free entry and also eat for free. Details are available at www.squirrelsbaseball.com/kidsclub

Loons to Collect Items for U.S. Troops

MIDLAND, Mich. – As part of their Memorial Day Celebration, presented by Central Michigan University, on Monday, May 27, the Great Lakes Loons and CMU will be partnering to collect items that are needed by members of the United States military.

Fans are encouraged to show their support for American troops by bringing an item with you to the Memorial Day game. All collections will be packaged and shipped to the 1460th Transportation & 144th MP companies.

Collection points will be set up at both entrances to Dow Diamond and cash donations also will be accepted.

For anybody that is unable to attend the game, items can also be dropped off at Dow Diamond between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Gifts and packages will also be collected at CMU University Communications between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until May 31.

The Loons will take on the Dayton Dragons at 3:05 p.m. on Monday, May 27, as part of Memorial Day Celebration. It will also be a Social Media Monday at Dow Diamond. Fans can interact with the Loons on Facebook, Twitter and the Loons new Boomaphone app during the game to request songs, win prizes and compete in on-field contests.

CORPUS CHRISTI – You can make a difference in assisting victims of the deadly Moore, Oklahoma tornado.

When attending games at Whataburger Field starting Wednesday, please donate good-quality clothing for all ages, canned goods, toiletries, blankets, bedding, tents and bottled water at the 40-foot trailer provided by Ainsworth Trucking. The trailer will be parked in front of the ballpark’s main gates.

Cash donations are needed to cover other needs.

Hooks staff will man the trailer from 90 minutes before first pitch until the third inning. Donations made after the third and during business hours can be left at the Whataburger Field offices, right of main gates.

“Ainsworth Trucking is working in conjunction with the API (American Petroleum Institute) chapter in Oklahoma City to facilitate the delivery of goods to people in the affected areas,” Hooks president Ken Schrom said. “I know our staff and fans will join with Ainsworth and API in responding to the great need of Central Oklahoma.”

The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Buck’s Naked BBQ and 99.9 The Wolf will hold the “Big Fat Food Drive” on Thursday, May 30th to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

The Sea Dogs will host the New Hampshire Cats at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field on May 30th. Fans are encouraged to bring non perishable items to the game. Every fan who makes a donation will receive a ticket voucher to use for a future Sea Dogs game for the 2013 season.

Buck’s Naked BBQ will be at the park, with a table and their mascot, where fans can register throughout the game to win Buck’s Naked BBQ Gift Cards.

Augusta Green Jackets and Fifth Third Bank Team Up to ‘Strikeout Hunger’

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta GreenJackets are teaming up with Fifth Third Bank to help “Strikeout Hunger” in the month of May. Starting on May 1, all three Augusta Fifth Third Bank locations will have donation cans to collect nonperishable food items for Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Every person who donates a food item from May 1 to May 18 at a local Fifth Third Bank will receive a free general admission ticket to watch the GreenJackets face the Savannah Sand Gnats on Sunday, May 19.

There will also be food donation cans at Lake Olmstead Stadium during select home games. The first collection dates at Lake Olmstead Stadium will be Friday, May 3 and Saturday May 4 followed by another round of collections on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18.

Prior to the start of the game on May 19, Fifth Third Bank and the GreenJackets will make an official on-field donation to Golden Harvest Food Bank with all food items collected throughout the drive.

Donate to the Fifth Third Bank Food Drive!

Make plans to bring cans of food and other non-perishables during the Fifth Third Bank Food Drive, taking place Thursday, May 2 through Sunday, May 5. Collection boxes will be readily available at all ballpark entrances. The donated food will be distributed locally to the Cherry Street Mission.

Fifth Third chose the food drive as this year’s national service project in honor of Fifth Third Day which occurs annually on May 3. For the second year in a row, Fifth Third Day celebrations will be dedicated to fighting hunger across the Fifth Third Bank footprint. Each of the 48 Fifth Third Bank locations in the Toledo Region will also be focused on “Feeding Our Communities,” by collecting non-perishable food items in the banking centers. The goal of Fifth Third is to provide at least 155,000 meals throughout all the regions served in honor of Fifth Third’s 155th anniversary.

Fans attending the Mud Hens home games on Thursday through Sunday of this week (May 2 – 5, 2013) are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. Boxes will be readily available at all entrances and donations will remain in the local community.

Suggested non-perishable food donations include: Peanut butter, pancake mixes and syrup, canned fruits, pastas, canned vegetables, powdered milk, cereals, spaghetti sauce, instant potatoes, soups, Jell-O and pudding.

For 65 years, Cherry Street Mission Ministries has served the homeless and poor. Today, in addition to meeting people’s critical basic needs, Cherry Street empowers them to break the bonds of homelessness and poverty and build new lives for themselves.

Express Announces Relief Initiatives to Assist Victims of West, Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express announced Friday their plans to aid in relief the victims of the devastating fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas on Wednesday.

During the entire four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs starting on Saturday, fans can donate items for the victims and residents of West. Items will be collected outside of Dell Diamond near the home plate entrance starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Donations will be accepted up until 30 minutes after the scheduled first pitch.

The following items are currently needed the most: personal hygiene items and toiletries, phone chargers, pillows, baby care items (diapers, wipes, baby food, etc.), non-perishable food items, new socks and underwear, bottled water, bedding, and pet food and supplies.

To thank fans for their donations, the Express will provide them with a pair of general admission tickets to that night’s game. If tickets have already been purchased for that game, they will receive a Be Our Guest pass, good for two reserved seats to a future game, Sunday – Thursday.

The Express will deliver all donations to West, Texas following the homestand.

A moment of silence will be observed for the victims of the tragic explosion before the start of the game on Saturday.
