Annual West Michigan Whitecaps Fundraiser has a New Look in February

January 4, 2022

Comstock Park, MI – – Tuesday, January 4, 2022 – – The Whitecaps Community Foundation announced a new look for their annual fundraiser in 2022. Past events were featured as a banquet and the Detroit Tigers caravan was the highlight. This year’s event will again support local youth baseball and softball, but with a few changes.

This February, the Whitecaps will celebrate The Golden Age of Baseball, during what is now called the Whitecaps Winter Gala presented by Eastbrook Homes. Proceeds benefit the YMCA Ted Rasberry Youth League and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities.

Since its inception, the Ted Rasberry Youth League has given more than 30,000 children a chance to play baseball and softball each summer. The program provides uniform hats and t-shirts, teaches kids baseball skills, provides healthy meals, helps kids make long-lasting friendships and the opportunity for fun during the summer.

“In classic Whitecaps tradition, we’re stepping up our entertainment game this year,” said Whitecaps Community Relations Manager, Jenny Garone. “Not only is the event in downtown Grand Rapids at the Public Museum, but we’ll also have live music, an auction, a strolling dinner, and guests will be dressed in 1920s attire as we’re celebrating the Golden Age of Baseball.”

Former major leaguer Craig Monroe is scheduled to speak at the gala (see attached photos, biography below). Monroe played six seasons with the Detroit Tigers during a career that spanned nine years: 2001– 2009.

“Baseball is what we do” Garone added. ‘We’re thrilled to be joined by former Tiger Craig Monroe who will visit and give a keynote talk. It’s all about raising funds so kids get the opportunity to have fun next summer. It’s a tradition and a party West Michigan won’t want to miss. We expect a sellout.”

The Whitecaps and the venue continue to monitor the community spread of COVID 19 and how current transmission rates may impact masking and vaccination requirements for this event. Further updates on these requirements will be provided in the coming weeks.

The Whitecaps Community Foundation The Golden Age of Baseball Winter Gala presented by Eastbrook Homes is Thursday, February 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Tickets are available at now at https://WCFgala22.givesmart.com.

Registration is now open, and participants are encouraged to register online.

All participants who raise the minimum $85.00 for Special Olympics Indiana will receive an official Polar Plunge long-sleeved t-shirt, with additional prizes and incentives offered to those who raise more. Individuals who go above and beyond in their efforts to support the Polar Plunge by raising a minimum of $4,000 are eligible to be recognized as “Super Plungers.” Nineteen individuals earned this distinction in 2021.

The Polar Plunge has been Special Olympics Indiana’s signature fundraiser for the last 23 years, bringing together Hoosiers of all ages and backgrounds each winter to raise money and awareness by braving the elements and taking an icy dip to demonstrate their commitment to the cause. All funds raised by the Polar Plunge directly benefit more than 18,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout the state, giving them the means to train locally and compete at the state level in a number of Olympic-type sports.

“Special Olympics Indiana works to ensure that persons with intellectual disabilities are included, empowered, and recognized as contributing members of their communities,” said President & CEO of Special Olympics Indiana Jeff Mohler. “Special Olympics in Saint Joseph County is thriving. The COVID pandemic has slowed us. But it has not stopped us, thanks to our many community allies, including the South Bend Cubs and Andrew Berlin. Our athletes are on the basketball court. They are in the swimming pool. They are in fitness centers getting stronger, faster, better. More importantly, our athletes are in their communities making a difference. Join the South Bend Cubs and Special Olympics as we make a difference together.”

More than 3,000 individuals take the plunge in a typical year, Freezin’ for a Reason, to raise vital funds that make a lasting difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. To date, the Polar Plunge has generated more than $8.5 million in support of Special Olympics Indiana’s year-round programs and events, including more than $750,000 in 2021.

“Every year, the South Bend Polar Plunge grows and has become our unofficial kickoff party to the new baseball season,” said South Bend Cubs Assistant General Manager for Marketing & Media Chris Hagstrom-Jones. “Over the last five years, our South Bend plunge has raised nearly $100,000 for local Special Olympians. We are encouraging community leaders to join us in breaking the $100,000 mark by plunging or donating to the South Bend Cubs plunge page.”

CLICK HERE TO DONATE TO THE SOUTH BEND CUBS PLUNGE

Everyone who donates $20 or more to the South Bend Cubs plunge will be entered to win a special gameday ticket package; four tickets to a 2022 South Bend Cubs game, opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and to lead the 7th inning stretch.

The Cyclones are Going, Going, Gold for Pediatric Cancer

Team Goes to Bat for Connor & Gianna

  • To Purchase Tickets to Benefit Connor’s Cure — CLICK HERE

BROOKLYN, NY – September 9, 2021 — The Brooklyn Cyclones are going gold for pediatric cancer this September and joining forces with Connor’s Cure to join in the fight against Pediatric Cancer. For all remaining September home games – starting Tuesday, September 14th and running through Sunday, September 19th – the Cyclones will be raising funds for this very worthy cause.

Connor’s Cure, which was originally established at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation in memory of Connor Michalek – an 8-year-old who battled medulloblastoma, a rare tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord – and has since partnered with WWE ® and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to raise millions of dollars in the fight against cancer.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Connor’s Cure to raise funds for such a worthy cause,” said Cyclones Assistant General Manager, Gary Perone. “We pride ourselves as an organization on being active members of our community and there are few causes that mean more to us than the fight against Pediatric Cancer and what Connor’s Cure stands for.”

As part of the Cyclones efforts, fans can purchase special ticket packages which will include the opportunity to take a photo with the Brooklyn Cyclones WWE Championship Title – which is awarded to the game MVP after each Cyclones victory. Proceeds from this ticket package will benefit Connor’s Cure. Those who already have tickets will also be able to pose with the championship belt for a donation the night of the game as well.

In addition, the team will be auctioning off a one-of-a-kind Connor’s Cure WWE Championship Title signed by Cyclones players to raise additional funds.

On Thursday, September 16th the fundraising will become even more personal for the organization as we honor one of the members of our kid’s dance team Pee Wee’s Dance Crew who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and battled bravely for years before passing away earlier this year. We will be honoring the life of our beloved Gianna throughout the game, including special dance performances from her friends and teammates, as well as a special ceremony with her family prior to the start of that night’s 7:00 PM game. Proceeds from tickets purchased for this game, through THIS LINK will benefit the Gianna Effect Foundation.

Gianna was a WWE fan herself, and even had the chance to meet WWE Superstars while undergoing treatment.

“Gianna was a beautiful light in this world that shined both on and off the field,” said Cyclones Director of Community Relations Christina Moore. “She was loved by all of her teammates on Pee Wee’s Dance Crew and will be remembered as a performance powerhouse, who packed a punch and brought joy to everyone around her. As an organization, it is a privilege to be able to honor the legacy of such a special young lady.”

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a month where we honor children with cancer, children who have survived cancer and children who have passed away as a result of cancer. It is a month where we will be “Going Gold” to make sure that childhood cancer is put in the spotlight.

M-Braves to host Autism Awareness Day on Sunday at Trustmark Park

July 22, 2021

PEARL, MS – The Mississippi Braves have partnered with William Carey University to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against Autism this Sunday, July 22, when the M-Braves host the Biloxi Shuckers at 2:05 pm.

Mississippi Braves players and coaches will wear special Autism Awareness jerseys, featuring the Braves logo across the chest with Autism Awareness puzzle pieces. A silent auction will be held at Trustmark Park beginning when gates open at 1:00 pm for fans to bid on each player and coach’s jersey. The current M-Braves roster features 11 of the Atlanta Braves top 30 prospects, including 2019 first-round selections Shea Langeliers and Braden Shewmake. Immediately following the game, players will autograph their jerseys for the auction winners. In addition, the jerseys will be signed by the player that wears them. The silent auction will end after the last out of the 6th inning.

Proceeds to the jersey auction will benefit TEAAM, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Mississippians with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities, or Specific Learning Disabilities by cultivating and enhancing family and community supports.

“TEAAM has been honored to support the autism community now for more than two decades,” added Dr. Mark H. Yeager, executive director of TEAAM Autism. “We have just completed our 21st summer of providing summer camp fun for youth and adults with autism. Over those years we have seen numerous families benefit from what we see as our mission, providing community-based experiences and access to recreational events such as this event partnering with the Mississippi Braves! It is partnerships such as these with William Carey University and the Mississippi Braves that allow us to continue to grow the opportunities for individuals and their families. And of course, we are honored to have both Mississippi teams on the field for our day in the sun!”

The M-Braves and William Carey University aim to create an environment that will allow families dealing with Autism to enjoy a day at Trustmark Park while raising awareness for Autism, a disorder that affects one in 59 American children. Sunday is also Family Fun Day, with post-game kids run the bases after the game.

“William Carey University is proud to support the efforts of Dr. Yeager, our faculty member and coordinator of our special education department, and his TEAAM organization in all of the work they do in the field of autism,” said Ben Burnett, Ph.D., executive vice president at WCU. “He has dedicated his entire career to serving those with special needs and WCU is proud to have him teaching and leading on our campus.”

The duo will host the Green & Gold Charity Softball Challenge on Monday, August 16 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The one-of-a-kind event will start at 7:05pm.

Thank you for supporting us and local charities Packers fans!”

Jones will lead the offense against Smith and the defense in this special event.

Smith has been teammates with Jones since 2019. He was a Pro Bowl selection at linebacker in 2019 and 2020 and has 44.5 sacks in his pro career.
