Fluor Field Hosts SC Veterans Upstate Salute on Friday

The Drive have teamed up with GE, Greenville Health System and Michelin to create a new non-profit organization called the Upstate Veterans Alliance, and in conjunction with our partners, we are proud to announce the first annual SC Veterans Upstate Salute! You’re invited to join us in this free celebration on November 11th at Fluor Field, as we will honor our local veterans with a night full of entertainment.

The event will begin at 5:00 PM, with the Field Street gates at Fluor Field opening at 4:00. Highlights of the evening include a concert from country music star Tracy Lawrence, a 21-gun salute, parachuters, an aerial flyover and opportunities to meet community agencies supporting veterans and their families. The night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show. The concession stands at Fluor Field will be open throughout the evening.

BlueClaws Charities Luxury Suite Raffle Returns With More Winners Than Ever Before

LAKEWOOD, NJ – BlueClaws Charities, the official 501c3 non-profit foundation of the Lakewood BlueClaws, is once again holding their annual BlueClaws Charities Luxury Suite Raffle, with this year’s raffle including a greater chance to win than ever before.

Only 300 raffle tickets will be sold, for $100 each, with proceeds going to BlueClaws Charities. This year, however, there will be seven winners instead of four. Each winner will win a 10-game BlueClaws Luxury Suite package for the 2017 season.

ORDER RAFFLE TICKETS – There are two ways to order. Order online by clicking here, or order on the phone by calling Mike Kasel at 732-901-7000 ext 195.

The seven winners will receive 20 tickets to 10 pre-determined games throughout the season. The games will be split up by day of the week and month of the season. Opening Day is April 13th and the season concludes on September 4th, Labor Day.

Kami Zonin of Zonin Wealth Management was a raffle winner for the 2016 season. “From the very first game in the Luxury Suite, we knew we were in for something special. The staff at the stadium did an amazing job to help cater every game to the person using the Suite. Our staff was able to use it for family birthdays and special occasions. We were also able to give some of our clients the opportunity to use the Suite for their own special occasions. Our clients loved it!”

She added: ” The BlueClaws worked with us to make every game a once in a lifetime experience, and for that we will be forever grateful!”

The last day to reserve a raffle ticket will be March 17, 2017 (but tickets are expected to sell out before that date). All seven winners will be determined via a drawing on March 20th at 10 am. at FirstEnergy Park. Winners do not have to be present to win.

Those that purchase multiple tickets can win multiple shares of a suite. Each share holds a $4,945 value.

Each Luxury Suite provides panoramic views of the stadium from a climate-controlled indoor area, which is completely furnished with cable and has 12 seats on the balcony. Luxury Suite ticket holders also have access to the Upstairs Club as well as wait service within the suite.

The proceeds from the raffle go to benefit BlueClaws Charities, a 501c3 organization and the official non-profit organization of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

The organization works with 40 non-profit Community Partners each year and donates to hundreds of area organizations and fundraising events.

Delmarva’s Largest Safe & Free Trick-or-Treat Event is Back for 10th Year

SALISBURY, Md. (October 18, 2016) – The 10th annual Trick-or-Treat Street, Delmarva’s largest safe and free trick-or-treating event, returns to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from Noon to 3:00 PM. The event is hosted by local radio stations Froggy 99.9, Q105, KISS 95.9, and Magic 98.9 in partnership with Delmarva Dental Services, Easter Seals Children’s Therapy Services, Farmer’s Bank of Willards, Sherwood of Salisbury, and Spicer Brothers Construction, Inc.

Families and children under 12 are invited to come out in costume for a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience in a non-threatening environment. Candy is provided for the trick-or-treaters courtesy of Candy Kitchen. Children are welcome to bring their own pumpkin to collect goodies; however, some bags are available courtesy of Easter Seals.

In addition to the free trick-or-treating and candy area, the event will also host a free fall-themed photo area, moon bounce, and other family-friendly activities. A Dunkin’ Donuts Community Cruiser vehicle will also be on-site during the event offering samples of their hot and iced coffees.

Trick-or-Treat Street was first created by station employees as a way to provide Delmarva residents with a safe, family-friendly outlet for Halloween fun. The free event has grown to almost 5,000 annual participants.

Shea wins in ADA ‘Kiss a Pig’ campaign

  Lexington Legends’ President/CEO Andy Shea planted a kiss on a pig Saturday night.

Shea was the winner in the American Diabetes Association “Kiss a Pig” fundraising campaign. He was one of 10 local celebrities in whose names donations could be made.   His total of more than $45,000 raised led the way, and as the winner, he kissed the pig – now named “Pig L” in reference to the Legends famous mascot, Big L.

“My Aunt Debbie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was in eighth grade,” Shea recalled. “She passed away shortly after my 16th birthday, and I still think about her and love her every day. It was a true honor to be a part of such a great event, raise funds for research, and bring awareness to this awful disease. It was even more special being able to share the night with my mom and friends. And we’re all very excited about the addition of Pig L to our family and the ballpark!”

Pig L will be a part of the Shea household, and is expected to occasionally visit Whitaker Bank Ballpark for some Legends’ games next season.

3,142 Vaccinations Administered at PRMC’s Drive-Thru Flu Clinic

Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) would like to extend its thanks and gratitude to 3,142 people on Delmarva who were vaccinated against the flu during the Medical Center’s 2016 Drive-Thru Flu Clinic on October 13 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

PRMC appreciates the community making sure they “live well” through annual vaccinations against the flu. We also thank the Delmarva Shorebirds for our long-standing partnership and the use of the ballpark to host the Medical Center’s largest and best attended annual community healthcare event.

Drive-Thru Flu Clinic Returns Thursday Oct. 13

Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Live Well “Drive-Thru” Flu Clinic is returning on Thursday, October 13, 2016, but as a single day event at Arthur W. Perdue (Shorebirds) Stadium at the intersection of Route 50 and Hobbs Road in Salisbury, MD. Vaccinations will be administered to individuals 13 years of age or older. A physician’s order is not necessary. A donation of $10.00 per vaccination is requested (cash only; exact amount is appreciated). This year’s shot is quadrivalent, meaning it protects against four strains of the virus.

PRMC’s Live Well Drive-Thru Flu Clinic will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. only this one day, Thursday Oct. 13. Flu vaccinations are encouraged for persons over the age of 65, people with heart or lung disorders, immunosuppressant diseases or diabetes. Participants are encouraged to wear a short sleeved shirt that will provide easy access to the upper arm.

Helping Hand: Power donate $50,000

September 29, 2016

Charleston, WV (September 29, 2016) –  The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates, are pleased to announce that their ongoing flood relief efforts have raised $50,000 for the West Virginia Region of the American Red Cross. The flooding that occurred in late June devastated 44 counties across the state of West Virginia and the Power immediately began relief efforts at Appalachian Power Park. Power fans and many of the team’s partners made sizable donations to the collection efforts, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pyrotechnico and Success Promotions.

“Our community was hit hard by this natural disaster,” stated Ken Fogel, Executive Vice President of the West Virginia Power. “Our fans, employees, friends and even some corporate partners were affected by the flooding. It was our goal to help in any way possible to begin the relief and recovery process. We are thrilled by the response and the donation we can now make on behalf of those who support us.”

During Power games, the team also used a variety of avenues enabling fans help the flood relief efforts as well. In addition to donation points located around the ballpark, charity t-shirts printed by T-Graphics were sold, proceeds from the nightly 50-50 were allocated and a portion of online tickets sales were donated to the relief effort.

The Power and Pirates Charities worked together to collect and donate dog food for the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. KCHA spent the weeks following the flooding rescuing animals displaced during the disaster. Power fans could drop bags of dog food off at the park and the players held a dog food drive at PetSmart in Southridge. On August 9, Pirates Baseball Charities arranged for 50 pallets of dog food to be delivered on behalf of the West Virginia Power and Ainsworth, one of the Pittsburgh Pirates partners.

“We are proud to partner with everyone at the West Virginia Power in support of the recovery efforts of those effected by the historic and devastating floods.” said Bob Nutting, the Pittsburgh Pirates Chairman. “The Power organization is a Pirates affiliate both on and off the field, as we both share in the same deep rooted commitment to help improve the lives of those in need.”

Shorebirds Present Toy Donation To Brooke’s Toy Closet

SALISBURY, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds are proud to announce in conjunction with partners at Market Street Inn, Mojo’s, and the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, the results of the Brooke’s Toy Closet Toy Drive, held on July 23rd at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

In total, 151 items were donated by Shorebirds fans, with the Shorebirds presenting the donation to Brooke’s Toy Closet at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center recently, along with members from Market Street Inn, Mojo’s, and the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Foundation, which oversees and maintains Brooke’s Toy Closet.

Toy Donations ranged from activity books, to stuffed animals, to interactive toys. All these items will be extremely beneficial to replenishing Brooke’s Toy Closet, and very much appreciated from members of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Foundation and staff from the Emergency Department and Pediatrics Unit.

“This was a fantastic partnership with Market Street Inn, Mojo’s, PRMC, and the Shorebirds. All parties were extremely excited with the results.” said Shorebirds Director of Community Relations Eric Sichau. “We appreciate the support from the local community and Shorebirds fans, and encourage those to donate to the Toy Closet year round to keep it replenished.” “We look forward to continuing the Toy Drive during the 2017 Season!”

Brooke’s Toy Closet was started in 2014 by Brooke Mulford, a local girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer, in 2009, when she was 4 years old. The closet is a special cabinet filled with toys, coloring books and other goodies that PRMC’s Emergency Department and Pediatrics Unit can give to children who are hospitalized. The recipients of these gifts will be able to use them when they’re in the hospital, and take them home to enjoy when they are feeling better. PBC Winners: Two scholarships awarded

Charleston, WV (September 6, 2016) – On Saturday, September 3, the West Virginia Power, in conjunction with Subway Development of West Virginia and Greg Hammond, announced the first winners of the Power Baseball Charities Scholarships. Tori Ward and Greg Lail were selected as the first recipients of the reoccurring scholarships.

In May of this season, Power Baseball Charities unveiled a new scholarship program, underwritten by Subway Development of West Virginia and Greg Hammond. Power Baseball Charities, a 501c3, accepted applications from local high school baseball and softball players for two reoccurring $1,000 scholarships.

Any graduating senior residing in Kanawha or surrounding counties who would be attending any post-secondary institution on a full-time basis this fall and had participated in either varsity baseball or softball was eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applications were received and reviewed by a three-member panel, who determined the scholarship winners based on a variety of criteria, including outstanding citizenship, a demonstrated role in bettering the community and on the merit of their academic and athletic achievements.

Tori Ward is a graduate of Poca High School. She was a three-year member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of the Poca varsity softball team, a member of the varsity cheerleading squad. Miss Ward is currently attending Glenville State College, where she is continuing her softball career and majoring in behavioral science.

Greg Lail is a graduate of Van Junior-Senior High School and is also attending Glenville State College. He graduated from high school with a 4.0 grade point average and at the top of his class. Mr. Lail is playing both football and baseball for the Pioneers while majoring in business management with intentions on going to dental school after college.

Yoga in the Outfield on Saturday

Fluor Field will host a special “Yoga in the Outfield” event on Saturday, September 10th. Gates open at 9:00 AM, and a special yoga class will begin at 10:00 AM.

Tickets for the yoga class are available now for just $15 by CLICKING HERE, and they will be $20 at the field on September 10th. Portions of the ticket proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels and the Set Free Alliance.

Kids are also invited to take part in a complimentary mini-yoga session on the berm by the Main Street Gate.

Even if you don’t take part in the yoga classes, anyone can enter with complimentary admission to the Mindful Market located on the concourse with healthy snacks, drinks and cocktails from some of Greenville’s most mindful vendors.

2nd Annual Clash of Cans Food Drive

AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta GreenJackets, Single-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced the 2nd Annual Clash of Cans Food Drive as a part of the festivities for Thursday, August 25th that will benefit the Golden Harvest Food Bank. The GreenJackets will host the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox) with the playoff chase heating up.

“We invite the CSRA to come out in force, bring lots of canned food items and celebrate with us”, stated GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. “This is a fun way to interact with the local colleges and universities, while also supporting a great organization.”

The GreenJackets are asking local university alumni and students such as the Augusta University, Augusta Technical College, Brenau University, East Georgia State College, Georgia Military College, University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Paine College, University of South Carolina, and Clemson University to compete in the Clash of Cans food drive. Current students and alumni are encouraged to participate in the Clash of Cans as a friendly competition for bragging rights of your school. Bring a canned food item for the August 25th game (Last Thirsty Thursday of 2016) to support the Golden Harvest Food Bank and be entered to win prizes! Rome Braves partner with local Law Enforcement benefiting LA flood victims

Local leaders in law enforcement are saddened by continuous reports of flooding in Louisiana and are calling on the public to help deliver assistance to families displaced by flood waters.

The Rome Braves will be assisting in the effort and will open the parking lot across from State Mutual Stadium, where officers will be posted to accept donations. Police and deputies will be on hand to help with unloading of supplies and make the event more convenient for contributors.

The event is scheduled to begin Thursday August 25, 2016 and continue through Saturday August 27, 2016 with hours of 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day.

The Rome Braves will also give away two free tickets for Sunday’s game to every car as a special thank you to the public. Tickets will be available while supplies last.

The law enforcement event is being called “BLUE”

Benefiting Louisiana with Uniformed Encouragement

“The people of Louisiana are reeling from the loss to their state so it’s important for us to bring a unified front of kindness,” said Floyd County Chief Bill Shiflett. “Those folks really need our help and I believe this is a great demonstration of love.”

According to statistics provided by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, more than 40,000 homes have been damaged and approximately 30,000 were rescued from their homes. All of those people are in need of fundamental supplies we take for granted, Shiflett said.

“The flooding in Louisiana brings back painful memories of Katrina for many,” said Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter. “Though we cannot take the hurt and pain of the past away, we can do something to help soften the blow for the more than 100,000 people who have registered for assistance.

Chief Denise Downer-McKinney, of the Rome City Police Department, says events like this are uplifting for all: “With all the support we have received from our community, we want to pay it forward to the community and our brothers and sisters in Louisiana.”

AutoMax Rent-a-Car is donating use of a truck to use during the drop off this week and Scott Logistics will be shipping the supplies at no cost from Rome to Louisiana.

Officials are asking for donations of toiletries, cleaning supplies, baby formula, diapers, paper products, new underwear in the pack, bath towels, wash cloths, laundry detergent, bleach, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, body wash, and feminine hygiene products.

Fireflies Launch Food Drive Fridays to Aid Harvest Hope Food Bank

COLUMBIA, SC – In conjunction with the Harvest Hope Food Bank, the Columbia Fireflies have launched Food Drive Fridays for the remainder of the season. For the final three home Friday games at Spirit Communications Park, fans will be offered buy one get one free tickets in the Bojangles’ Berm, Reserved or Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union All-Star seating sections for every two canned food items they bring to the park. All cans will be donated to the Harvest Hope Food Bank.

The buy one get one free tickets are only eligible for that Friday evening’s game. Here are the Fireflies’ remaining Friday home games:

August 12, 7:05 p.m. vs. Greensboro Grasshoppers (Miami Marlins)

August 19, 7:05 p.m. vs. Augusta GreenJackets (San Francisco Giants)

September 2, 7:05 p.m. vs. Charleston RiverDogs (New York Yankees)

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for all three games and fans are asked to present their canned food items at the Fireflies Box Office to receive their buy one get one free tickets. Cans will be collected at the front entrance.

Fans with season ticket packages or who have already purchased single game tickets for an upcoming Friday game are still encouraged to bring canned food items.

BLOOD ASSURANCE AND ROME BRAVES PARTNER TO BRING A LIFESAVING CAUSE TO HOME PLATE

– With baseball season under full swing, non-profit regional blood center Blood Assurance is partnering with the Rome Braves to host a blood drive on Friday, May 13, from noon until 6 p.m. at the team’s stadium located at 755 Braves Blvd. All community members who make a blood donation will receive an “American Blood Donor” t-shirt, and the first 25 donors will receive a complimentary general admission ticket to any Rome Braves game this season.

“Donors are pivotal to our mission, saving three lives with just one blood donation,” said Mindy Quinn, marketing manager for Blood Assurance. “With that in mind, every donation truly has a revolutionary impact, and we encourage those who are able to donate to please come out to our Rome Braves blood drive and be the force that might save your neighbor’s life.”

Blood Assurance believes in giving back to the communities in which it serves. Blood donations stay local, but, when local supplies are insufficient to meet needs, the organization has a Blood Assurance network of 15 regional donation centers and 13 mobile centers available to help.

“We could think of no better way to give back to the Rome community than by partnering with Blood Assurance and joining in their mission to literally save lives across the region,” said Michael Dunn, general manager for the Rome Braves. “We know this mission will speak to the hearts of many in our area, and we hope you all take just half an hour to be the difference in someone’s life.”

While donors are not required to make appointments, they are encouraged to easily book a time slot at www.bloodassurance.org/romebraves. To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids- avoiding caffeine-and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. For questions about donating blood, please call (423) 756-0966.
