P-Nats Honor Local Military Members with “Tripp’s Troops” Program

Woodbridge, VA—The Potomac Nationals and 2018 manager Tripp Keister are excited to unveil the “Tripp’s Troops” program for the entirety of the 2018 season. This program will provide free tickets to each 2018 P-Nats home game to current or former military members through a nomination process on www.potomacnationals.com.

With this new program, fans will be able to nominate current and former members of the military to receive free tickets to a 2018 P-Nats home game. The nomination process will be through the Potomac Nationals’ website, where fans will be able to easily submit information to get free tickets for deserving members of the community. “As a former Soldier in the United States Army, it is my great honor to welcome active and retired military members and their families to Pfitzner Stadium for a complimentary night of P-Nats baseball,” said Potomac Nationals Assistant General Manager, Arthur Bouvier. “As a show of gratitude for their invaluable service in protecting our country every day, we look forward to honoring those selected for this program at games throughout the season.”

This new platform is in the namesake of current Potomac Nationals manager Tripp Keister, who is with the P-Nats for his fifth season at the helm of the club.

Tripp will provide nominated and selected fans with tickets in the reserved section at Pfitzner Stadium. Guests at the game as part of the Tripp’s Troops program will receive recognition over the public address system as well as on the P-Nats’ HD video board.

Pulaski Yankees bring back Free Youth Outings Program for 2018 season

Pulaski, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees are excited to announce they will once again offer free admission to area youth groups during the 2018 season as part of the Calfee Park Free Youth Outings Program presented by Virginia529 and Shelor Motor Mile Growing the Future.

The program is open to all area youth groups, including sports teams, church groups, school groups, Boy and Girl Scouts, and child care centers. Each child in the group will receive one (1) free General Admission (GA) ticket. Youth group leaders accompanying the group will also receive one (1) free GA ticket. Parents, guardians, and other family members may join the group by purchasing GA tickets at a discounted rate of $5 per ticket.

Tides to continue Youth Field Renovation Project

The Norfolk Tides today announced the return of The Youth Field Makeover Project presented by Orkin, a contest in which a local youth field will be renovated by Tides groundskeepers and front office staff. This field makeover will include an upgrade to the playing surface, an improvement to existing dugouts, and pest prevention services courtesy of Orkin. The recipient of the makeover will be determined by a fan vote on the Tides Facebook page in late February.

“Our entire organization is excited for this contest to return, and we’re very appreciative of the folks at Orkin for helping to make this project a reality,” said Tides General Manager Joe Gregory. “Baseball is such an integral part of the Hampton Roads community, and we’re happy to do our part in helping children play the game in facilities they can be proud of.”

Those interested in having the Tides make over their facility should submit a picture of their field to Heather McKeating. Along with the photo, fans are asked to include a brief description of why their league’s field should receive this enhancement. The deadline to submit this information is February 16, with online voting taking place on the Tides Facebook page from February 19 to February 23.

Since the inaugural renovation in 2012, the Tides have renovated 10 local fields: Ocean View Little League (Norfolk), Smithfield Recreation Association (Smithfield), Bennett’s Creek Little League (Suffolk), Phoebus Little League (Hampton), Shore Little League (Nassawadox), Cradock Little League (Portsmouth), Little Creek National (Norfolk), Gloucester Youth Baseball (Gloucester), Surry County Pony Baseball (Surry) and Deer Park Youth Field (Newport News).

The project is made possible thanks to the Tides Youth Baseball Fund, a program established by the Tides in 1990 as a way to raise money for youth baseball and softball programs in Hampton Roads. In addition to assisting with field renovations, the Youth Baseball Fund also helps local teams and leagues with travel expenses. Sox Donate to Feeding America SW VA on Giving Tuesday

SALEM, VA (Monday, November 27) – The Salem Red Sox announced today that, in partnership with BUSH’S® Beans, they will provide a donation to Feeding America Southwest Virginia as part of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Potomac Nationals to Begin Toys for Tots Drive November 9th

Woodbridge, VA—As the holiday season comes upon us, the Potomac Nationals are excited to announce a new partnership with Toys for Tots. The local program, run by the Quantico Chapter of the US Marine Corps, collects new, unwrapped toys in November and December. These gifts are then spread to children in the area on Christmas Day.

“While the holiday season is a joyous time of the year for the Potomac Nationals family, spent reflecting on all which we are thankful for, and sharing gifts with our loved ones and friends, there are many underprivileged children in our region who will not be afforded the same opportunity to open presents during the holidays,” said Potomac Nationals GM of Sales, Bryan Holland.

“In an effort to serve as a conduit to our community’s less fortunate, the P-Nats are honored to partner with the Toys for Tots program, which annually distributes millions of toys to kids across the United States, as a means to collect toys that will be distributed directly to kids in Northern Virginia who would not otherwise be receiving gifts from their families,” said Holland.

This is the first year that the P-Nats and Toys for Tots have partnered during the holiday season. Sox Offering Free Admission to all Service Members on Military Appreciation Night

SALEM, VA (Friday, September 1, 2017) – The Salem Red Sox will offer free admission to any and all military service members on Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, September 2 against the Winston-Salem Dash.

Due to the overwhelming support from Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Family Support Center, and our fans donating tickets at every home game this year, Salem Red Sox President Ryan Shelton has decided to match our partners’ contributions by giving free admission to all military service members (active or retired) who do not already have a ticket. Eligible fans can show their military ID at the gates for free entrance.

Flying Squirrels Announce Hurricane Relief Efforts

RVA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have teamed up with the American Red Cross, VCU & Hilldrup Moving & Storage in an effort to help raise funds and items for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Flying Squirrels Charities, a nonprofit 501 (c)3, will be leading off the efforts with a $2,000 donation on behalf of Flying Squirrels fans. This donation, along with any cash donations received from fans at The Diamond to the American Red Cross Thursday-Sunday, will be matched by Minor League Baseball Charities (up to $10,000).

Additionally, Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., The Diamond will be a donation center for items needed in Houston-area shelters (specific items listed below). VCU Head Basketball Coach Mike Rhoades, a former Houston-resident, is spearheading the relief efforts. Rhoades and his family will be on hand to assist in taking donations at The Diamond, Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. VCU basketball players as well as Flying Squirrels players, will accompany Rhoades at the park in rotating shifts.

“I know RVA will once again come through for those that need our help,” said VCU Head Basketball Coach Mike Rhoades. “We need you to contribute and assist all those in the Houston-area who were decimated by this terrible storm. This initiative will directly make it better for those that need it. My family, our team and our VCU community will be actively involved at The Diamond.”

The Red Cross will be at The Diamond from Thursday-Sunday and will be accepting cash donations. Fans can also donate to the American Red Cross through the coded link provided here to receive a matching contribution from MiLB Charities. The Flying Squirrels will also donate the proceeds from Saturday’s raffle and Launch-A-Ball to the relief effort. A silent auction will also be a contributor during Saturday’s game.

“Obviously, our hearts go out to all involved in Texas,” said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We have several players and front office staff who we care deeply about, who have families and friends deeply affected by this and we always want to do what s right and lead here in Richmond, so we were happy to be involved in this with our partners at VCU and Hilldrup Moving and Storage.”

Hillcats Helping Hurricane Harvey Victims

As the area of southeast Texas continues to endure record rainfall following the initial devastation of Hurricane Harvey, the Lynchburg Hillcats are asking fans to help those affected by making donations throughout the upcoming homestand.

The Hillcats have partnered with Gleaning the World to accept specific items that will be sent to the affected area. These items include dry or canned pet food, cat litter, collars, and leashes. Fans can also make monetary donations at the ballpark. Minor League Baseball Charities has agreed to match all donations raised by its clubs, up to $10,000.

Fans who donate either a specific item from the list or money at the gate will receive a $4 ticket good for any type of seat at that night’s game. The Hillcats will also hold a 50/50 raffle at the games on Wednesday and Thursday to help raise funds. Lynchburg is at home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday against the Potomac Nationals. All games begin at 6:30 p.m., and the gates open at 5:30.

Lynchburg begins its three-game homestand Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Sean Brady (1-1, 6.52) will start for the Hillcats. It’s a Two-Fur Tuesday, so fans can enjoy Buy One, Get One Free tickets as well as $2 concession stand deals. D-Braves donate to Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented a donation of nearly $1,200 to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association Monday afternoon as part of MiLB’s CommUNITY initiative featured throughout the month of August. The D-Braves raised $2,397.32 from the auction of game-worn cancer awareness jerseys. The proceeds were split between the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association and the Centra Foundation.

The D-Braves 2017 Cancer Awareness Night on July 8 marked the seventh year in which the Braves wore and auctioned cancer awareness jerseys.

“We’re happy to support the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association and the support they provide local cancer patients,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross.

Tides to renovate Deer Park Little League

After nearly 2,500 votes were cast on the Norfolk Tides Facebook page, Deer Park Little League has won the Youth Field Makeover Project presented by Orkin. This field makeover will include an upgrade to the playing surface and an improvement to existing dugouts.

Deer Park Little League received nearly 1,300 votes to win the contest, which consisted of three local youth fields. Tides groundskeepers and front office staff will visit Deer Park (located in Newport News) to assist in renovating their field.

D-Braves make donation to Danville Veterans Memorial

DANVILLE, Va. – As part of the Minor League Baseball CommUNITY initiative and in support of the Danville community, the Danville Braves made a donation of $1,455 to the Danville Veterans Memorial Fund. The D-Braves raised the donated money through mystery ball and mystery bobblehead sales/auctions held during two games this season.

“We’re proud to continue to support the Danville Veterans Memorial in honor of the sacrifices of the men and women of our nation’s military,” said Danville Braves General Manager David Cross.

D-Braves present donation to God’s Storehouse

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented God’s Storehouse with a donation of nearly $2,000 prior to the team’s game against Bluefield Friday, August 11. The Braves raised $1,992.88 from the first ever Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness held earlier this season on July 15.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and the results of our first ever 5K,” said D-Braves Community Relations and Sales Manager Betsy Haugh. “We appreciate the community’s support of this event and are thrilled that we are able to make this donation to a great local non-profit organization in God’s Storehouse.”

65 runners and walkers competed in the Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness. The event was sponsored by Planet Fitness, HomeTrust Bank, and the Brick Running & Tri-Store, with all proceeds benefiting God’s Storehouse, a non-profit food pantry serving Danville and Pittsylvania County.

Tides to wear Merman jerseys on August 18th

The Norfolk Tides today announced that the team will be wearing specialty Norfolk Merman jerseys during their game on Friday, August 18th. The jerseys will be worn by the Tides during that night’s game with the Toledo Mud Hens and will then be auctioned off for charity after the game.

When the Tides changed primary logos prior to the 2016 season, the club had several different options that made it into the final stages of the review process. One of those logos was a Merman yielding a trident, the logo featured on the upcoming specialty jersey.

“When we underwent the logo change process, we had several exciting potential designs to choose from” said Tides General Manager Joe Gregory. “Some were simple, clean and traditional, while others – like this Merman logo – were fun and unconventional. We thought it would be a fun idea to showcase what one logo would have looked like if we had gone in that direction.”

During the August 18th game, the Tides will hold a silent auction for the jerseys on the Harbor Park concourse, with proceeds going to charity. Winning fans will then get the jerseys directly off the players’ backs following the game.

Potomac Nationals, MiLB, & AUVI-Q Partner on “Peanut-Free Day” at Pfitzner Stadium on 8/10/17

Woodbridge, VA—In conjunction with Minor League Baseball and AUVI-Q, the Potomac Nationals are excited to announce a “Peanut-Free Day” at Pfitzner Stadium on Thursday, August 10th. The game between the P-Nats and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs) will help fans that suffer from peanut allergies enjoy America’s national pastime with less concern.

Per the release here from Minor League Baseball, AUVI-Q has been named the “Official Epinephrine Auto-Injector (EAI) of Minor League Baseball. The partnership includes participating clubs, including the Potomac Nationals, hosting peanut-free games at their respective ballpark.

On “Peanut-Free Day” at Pfitzner Stadium, 8/10/17, gates will open at 11:00am, while first pitch is scheduled for 12:05pm.

Tides to renovate youth field in the fall

The Norfolk Tides today announced the return of a contest in which a local youth field will be renovated by Tides groundskeepers and front office staff. Proudly presented by Orkin, this field makeover will include an upgrade to the playing surface and an improvement to existing dugouts, with the recipient of the makeover being determined by a fan vote on the Tides’ Facebook page.

“We’re thrilled to be able to add an additional field renovation to our schedule this year” said Tides General Manager Joe Gregory. “We’ve had such phenomenal success with this program in the spring that we decided to add another field makeover in the fall, and our entire organization is looking forward to helping out another worthy community.”

Those interested in having the Tides make over their facility should submit a picture of their field to Heather McKeating at HMckeating@norfolktides.com. Along with the photo, fans are asked to include a brief description of why their league’s field should receive this enhancement. The deadline to submit this information is August 18, with online voting taking place on the Tides’ Facebook page from August 21-25.

2017 is the sixth year the Tides have renovated a local youth field. Since the program was introduced in 2012, the Tides have renovated nine local fields: Ocean View Little League (Norfolk), Smithfield Recreation Association (Smithfield), Bennett’s Creek Little League (Suffolk), Phoebus Little League (Hampton), Shore Little League (Nassawadox), Cradock Little League (Portsmouth), Little Creek National (Norfolk), Gloucester Youth Baseball (Gloucester) and Surry County Pony Baseball (Surry).

The project is made possible thanks to the Tides Youth Baseball Fund, a program established by the Tides in 1990 as a way to raise money for youth baseball and softball programs in Hampton Roads. In addition to assisting with field renovations, the Youth Baseball Fund also helps local teams and leagues with travel expenses. The Youth Baseball Fund is partially financed by scoreboard announcements at Harbor Park throughout the season, and those wishing to make a donation directly to the Youth Baseball Fund can do so via norfolkides.com under the “community” section.

Volunteers from Safelite AutoGlass will join the Tides staff in assisting with the field renovation efforts, which will take place in late September.
