Cardinals to observe National Law Enforcement Week during May 7 game

Springfield, MO – In honor of National Law Enforcement Week from May 10 – 16, the Springfield Cardinals are honoring law enforcement personnel throughout the Springfield area during the Thursday, May 7 game at Hammons Field.

Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Law Enforcement Week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

“The entire Cardinals Organization has the utmost respect for all law enforcement personnel and first responders,” said Springfield Cardinals Vice President / General Manager Matt Gifford. “They are the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to make our community the great place to live that it is, and we are honored to recognize their service and sacrifices at Hammons Field.”

As part of the evening, Springfield Police Officer Aaron Pearson, who was wounded in the line of duty on January 26, 2015, is scheduled to throw out a Ceremonial First Pitch before the game. Additionally, the Cardinals are donating $5 from every Field Box Ticket to the May 7 game ordered through the link below to Officer Pearson and his family through the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police.

To help raise funds for Officer Pearson, fans must order their tickets for the May 7 game through the dedicated link below or call Community Relations Coordinator Niki Lodholz at (417) 832-3042. First Pitch on Thursday, May 7 is scheduled for 7:10pm, with gates opening at 6:10pm.

Team Salvatore Fight Like A Kid Night

Friday, May 1st. Gates open at 6:00pm for the 7:00pm game.

Salvatore is three years old. He loves cars & playing with his friends. He wants to become a firefighter when he grows up. He is a new big brother and loves his little sister very much. Salvatore was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and has been fighting hard to beat the disease.

To help support his family in this difficult time, the Tampa Yankees are donating 100% of the ticket proceeds from the Friday, May 1st home game to Salvatore’s family. There will also be a raffle with Tampa Yankees autographed items on the concourse. Raffle proceeds will also go to Salvatore’s family.

Salvatore’s family & doctor are planning to bring him for that evenings home game to meet the team and throw out the first pitch. The night will have several other surprises for Salvatore and his family.

Reserved tickets are $6 each and General Admission tickets are $4 each and can be purchased online through TicketMaster, tybaseball.com or at the Steinbrenner Field Box Office. Please note that TicketMaster has dropped all additional fees for the May 1st home game if you purchase through them.

Bees to Host Teacher Appreciation Night

Local Educators Can Attend May 5 Game for Free

SALT LAKE CITY (April 27, 2015)– The Salt Lake Bees will host their second annual Teacher Appreciation Night on Tuesday, May 5 when the Bees take on the Tacoma Rainiers. Teachers can receive free admission to the game by showing their school I.D. at the box office and can also purchase discounted tickets for family members for just $8.

Teacher Appreciation Night, which is part of the Bees year-round community outreach to support health and wellness, education and youth development, allows the club to honor and thank local educators for their efforts in the classroom. Gates open at 5:35 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The Bees have an eight-game homestand May 4-11. Tickets to all Salt Lake Bees home games, can be purchased at Smith’s Ballpark box office, at all Smith’sTix outlets and Smith’s Food & Drug Stores, by phone at 801-325-BEES (2337) or online at www.slbees.com, with no additional fees. Martie Cordaro Receives Jack Lewis Community Service Award at Omaha Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

OMAHA, Neb. – As part of the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Omaha Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro was honored with the Jack Lewis Community Service Award. The event was held at the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Scott Conference Center.

“The Storm Chasers are not validated by Championship rings and trophies, but are with the results that show the staff is truly dedicated to the area we live and work in,” said Martie Cordaro, President and General Manager of the Omaha Storm Chasers. “Our work is not important unless we have an impact on the lives of the people who support us, and that is what we continue to try to live up to every day.”

The Jack Lewis Service Community Service Award is the third community-based honor the Storm Chasers have received since the end of the 2014 season, and second for Cordaro as he was named “Community Partner of the Year” by Community 360 last September. The team was honored at the PRSA Nebraska Paper Anvil Awards Gala last December with the 2014 Community Service Award.

The Storm Chasers had a record-setting 2014 in terms of community involvement as the charitable arm of the team, the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha, donated $558,733 to local charities. The total was the largest since the team became the Storm Chasers in 2010.

The 2015 Hall of Fame inductees were Bruce Benedict, Ken Geddes, Peaches James, Christy Johnson-Lynch, Charles “Deacon” Jones, the 1985 Omaha Creighton Prep Football team and horse “Omaha.”

In addition to the honor for Cordaro the Westside High School baseball team was named Sportsmen of the Year, Creighton Volleyball’s Kelli Browning was named Sportswoman of the Year and Boxing’s “Fighter of the Year” Terence “Bud” Crawford was named the Founders Award winner.

The Omaha Sports Hall Of Fame was founded in 2006, with a goal to provide a permanent place to honor individuals with strong ties to Omaha who have achieved tremendous success through athletics.

Dragons to Host Public Safety Day on April 26

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Dragons announced today that Public Safety Day will be held Sunday, April 26 on the Plaza at Fifth Third Field. Kettering Health Network and the Dragons are partnering to bring this free event to the public. From noon to 2:30 p.m., families will be allowed to explore special displays featuring a fire truck, SWAT vehicles, K-9 units, an ambulance, and police cars.

Public Safety Day allows members of the Dayton community to recognize the area’s exceptional police and fire departments by letting them get up close and personal with these vehicles. Dragons mascots Heater and Gem will take photos with fans on the plaza before the game. Children will receive a free plastic emergency hat (while supplies last). There will also be raffle prizes throughout the event.

 

Sgt. Mark Spiers, Officer of the Year, will be honored during the pregame ceremony. Sgt. Spiers shows extreme empathy for fellow officers and is always reliable, often plowing snow in front of the station for patrons. He assisted a retired officer, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, acquire a wheelchair. While he is reliable, Sgt. Spiers also leads by example, never asking anything of his officers that he would not do himself.

Also during the pregame ceremony, members of the Vandalia Fire Department will be honored for their brave exhibition. The firefighters responded to a person at a local YMCA who was not breathing. They arrived at the patients side within three minutes and transported the patient to Grandview Medical Center in 37 minutes. The patient survived and left the hospital in good condition thanks to the immediate response time of the Vandalia Fire Department and the expert care at the hospital. Representing the fire department is Chad Garver who will throw out the first pitch.

Dodgers to Honor Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma as Chesapeake Community All-Stars

Organization to become first honoree of the 2015 season Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Chesapeake Energy Corporation are proud to honor Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma as Chesapeake Energy Community All-Stars during Saturday’s Dodgers’ game against the Omaha Storm Chasers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Chesapeake Energy Community All-Stars program identifies organizations that have gone above and beyond to make a difference in their communities. In partnership with the Dodgers, Chesapeake will honor five organizations throughout the 2015 baseball season.

“We’re so fortunate to live in the state of Oklahoma, which is full of so many generous organizations,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “Dodgers games provide an ideal platform to assist in Chesapeake’s mission of recognizing deserving organizations that better their communities.”

More than 14,000 people are involved with Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma, which aims to build “girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place,” according to the organization’s mission statement.

“At Girl Scouts, girls have the opportunity to do something big,” Shannon Evers, chief executive officer at Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma said. “They discover themselves and they learn about who they are, what they care about and what interests they may have.”

Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma will be honored at the end of the third inning of Saturday’s game.

Lindsay McIntyre, with Chesapeake, will present the award. Karen Sandlin, public relations and marketing specialist for Girls Scouts Western Oklahoma, will accept the award on behalf of the organization.

First pitch for Saturday’s game is set for 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The award presentation, including an informational video about Girls Scouts Western Oklahoma, will follow the end of the third inning.

Baysox Seek Military Hero Nominations

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie Baysox are seeking Military Hero Nominations to be used in the Military Heroes Card Set presented by Andrews Federal Credit Union being given away during the game Friday, July 31, 2015. Fans living in the area who know active or retired members of the Armed Forced are encouraged to fill out the nomination form on www.baysox.com.

During Military Heroes Appreciation Night Friday, July 31 15, the Baysox will distribute a 25-35 card set to the first 1,000 fans ages 18 and older featuring active and retired members of the Armed Forces received through the nomination process. The cards will feature photographs and information about their military careers. The Baysox will honor these veterans and/or their families in special ceremonies before and during the game. Baysox fans living in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. region who have family or friends in the military can help the Baysox honor their service by nominating them for this special card set.

“We are very excited to bring this promotion back for a second season,” said Baysox Assistant General Manager Phil Wrye. “It was a great success last year and with our stadium’s close proximity to a number of military bases, there are many more men and women who deserve special recognition for their service. This card set giveaway is another great way to honor local Military Heroes.”

In order for a nomination to be considered, all information in the online form must be completely filled out. The Bowie Baysox will make every attempt to select an even number of nominations from each branch of the service, while also attempting to include Military Heroes that have served in different decades. These are subject to the information received during the nomination process.

Nominations will only be accepted through the online form on www.baysox.com and all nominations must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Following that deadline, the Baysox staff will randomly select 25-35 nominations to be included in the Military Heroes Card Set.

Military Heroes (or their families/relatives) that are included in the Baseball Card Set will be invited to attend the Bowie Baysox game on July 31, 2015 at 6:35 p.m. to take part in ceremonies before and during the game. Each selected nominee will receive four Box Seat Tickets to the game and will also receive additional instructions prior to the game date.

Threshers Accepting Nominations For Local Military Heroes

Heroes to be Honored at Veterans and Military Appreciation Night on August 15

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Threshers are accepting nominations for local veteran and active-duty military heroes to be honored at Veterans and Military Appreciation Night on August 15 at Bright House Field. The evening is presented by Bosley and Bratch, Lawyers for Veterans. The night will feature on-field ceremonies, military vehicles and equipment on display, a silent auction and vendors on the concourse.

The Threshers are asking for nominations of local military personnel, both active and veteran, to be featured in a baseball card set of 30 heroes that will be given away to guests as they enter the ballpark. A total of 1,000 card sets will be distributed, presented by First Priority. Heroes selected for the card set, or their representatives, will be honored on the field prior to the game.

Nominations should include the heroes’ name, rank, status, branch, years of service, and a short career bio. A photo of the nominee for the front of the baseball card should also be included.

Veterans and Military Appreciation Night is in its fifth year at Bright House Field. Representatives from the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard will be on-hand for the evening. Many veterans groups and support organizations will also participate.

The gates will open at 5 p.m. on August 15 for the 6:30 p.m. game against the Tampa Yankees, followed by a post-game fireworks display. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will benefit two local charities, the Haley House Fund and the Injured Warriors Fund. EL PASO – April 22, 2015 – The El Paso Chihuahuas proudly announce the launch of the Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack, an El Paso-wide volunteer force created to give back to the Sun City and surrounding region.

This Saturday, April 25, “The Pack” will participate in their first event – Rebuilding Together El Paso’s National Event Day – at 6344 St Lo Rd from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. or until the job is done with some special guests arriving around 10:00 a.m. “The Pack” will help with some home improvements such as painting and yard maintenance.

“We are extremely proud to create a community group that can join together and give back to our great city,” said Brad Taylor, Chihuahuas general manager.

Joining together with non-profit organizations and community partners, “The Pack” is made up of Chihuahuas fans, players, coaches and staff with the mission of making a positive impact in our community.

Miracle, Dave Clark host 10th annual Special Needs Camp

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 20, 2015) – The Fort Myers Miracle and the Dave Clark Foundation will host the 10th annual Special Needs Camp on Saturday, May 9 at Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The camp will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 12 p.m.

Featuring one-on-one instruction from the Miracle players and coaching staff, the Special Needs Camp focuses on teaching children the basic skills of hitting, throwing, catching and fielding. Camp participants can experience the atmosphere of a walking onto a professional baseball field and stepping into the shoes of a professional athlete for a day.

“This is one of the best things we do,” said Miracle Chief Operating Officer Steve Gliner. “The camp is such a special day for the kids, but also for the players and the staff. We are excited and proud to be doing this for a tenth year.”

Registration is open to the first 50 individuals with a physical or mental disability. There is no cost for registration or associated with the camp. To register a child, call 239-768-4210 or email aadams@miraclebaseball.com. Registration can also be completed at www.ftmyers.d3day.com.

Kids are asked to bring their own baseball gloves and one adult chaperone is required to be in attendance with each child while attending the camp. Lunch will be provided after the camp is completed. Each participant will receive four tickets to the Miracle game on the evening of Tuesday, May 12, a 7:05 p.m. start against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The Dave Clark Foundation has partnered with the Miracle for the last decade. Dave Clark is a Cape Coral resident who spent 17 years playing professional baseball despite contracting polio as an infant and losing the full use of his legs. Dave won 600 games in his career and has worked as a coach at the international level. Dave has a career of over 40 years in baseball.

The Fort Myers Miracle are the Class A Advanced minor league baseball affiliate of the Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball club. Since moving to Fort Myers in 1992, the Miracle have qualified for the Florida State League Playoffs eight times and won the Florida State League Championship in 2014. Home games are played at Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The Fort Myers Miracle season begins in April and ends in September. BUDDY BAT JOINS “WILL RUN FOR BOOKS” MINI-MARATHON TEAM

BUDDY BAT SUPPORTING FAMILY SCHOLAR HOUSE THROUGH THE MINI-MARATHON

WHAT:

On Saturday, April 25, Buddy Bat, the official mascot of the Louisville Bats, will participate in the Kentucky Derby Festival’s mini-marathon to support Family Scholar House. Fellow runners and walkers are encouraged to post a selfie taken with Buddy Bat during the race and use #BuddyRuns4Books to be entered into a drawing for a prize pack of Louisville Bats tickets and memorabilia. As our community prepares for the mini-marathon, Family Scholar House is posting training tips on Facebook, including one to be posted on Tuesday of Buddy Bat training for the mini.

Cathe Dykstra, Chief Possibility Officer of Family Scholar House, has known Buddy Bat (AKA Jeremy Sharfe) as an educator and community leader for many years. Cathe said, “The only thing bigger than Buddy Bats’ head is his heart. He really cares about families and giving everyone a chance to learn and grow.”

Family Scholar House, a nonprofit organization, is changing lives, families and communities through education. Family Scholar House provides comprehensive, holistic programming and support services for disadvantaged single-parent college students and their children. This is the first year that Family Scholar House has been an official charity included in the Kentucky Derby Festival’s mini-marathon.

Blue Wahoos Renovate Bill Gregory Park

The Blue Wahoos front office renovated Bill Gregory Park’s fields on Monday.

PENSACOLA, Fla., – Members of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos front office renovated Bill Gregory Park’s tee-ball field on Monday as part of MLB’s RBI program. Renovations included measuring and moving the bases and mounds, mowing the grass, edging the dirt areas, picking up trash and painting the dugouts.

“We couldn’t have been happier about getting out into the community and helping with the tee-ball field at Bill Gregory, in support of MLB’s RBI program,” said Director of Guest Services and Community Relations Donna Kirby. “We have such a dedicated staff that truly cares about improving our community and making a difference in people’s lives, so it’s truly a pleasure for us to carve out time out of our calendars for this very worthwhile project each year. Bottom line, giving back to the community, it’s the #WahoosLife.”

After making the tee-ball field safer and up to code, the staff worked on the two other fields at the park.

“We were happy to help spruce up these fields today,” said Director of Sports Turf Management Ray Sayre. “Today’s young players are the future of the game of baseball. I hope to see some of these kids playing on a Big League field one day.”

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are committed to giving back to the local community and dedicated fans. The field refurbishment is part of the organization’s partnership with Major League Baseball’s RBI program – Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities. Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities focuses on youth outreach by fostering the growth of young ballplayers on and off the field.

Autism Awareness Night.

The Tampa Yankees will support Autism Awareness as they host their second annual “Autism Awareness Night” on Saturday, April 25th at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Daytona Tortugas. The game will begin at 6:00 pm & the gates will open to all fans at 5:00 pm. The night is sponsored by Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.

On “Autism Awareness Night,” custom jerseys will be worn by the players & coaches that will be auctioned off during the game. Auction winners will have the opportunity to get their jersey signed by the player or coach who wore it after the game. The auction will benefit The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of South Florida.

Saturday, April 25th will also be Friends & Family Night, where Family 4-Packs will be available for $38. Included are four reserved tickets, hot dogs, bags of chips, sodas, TY caps & two passes to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. Family 4-Packs can only be purchased at the Steinbrenner Field Box Office.

Before the game, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases from 5-5:15 pm & player autographs will be given on the concourse from 5:10-5:30 pm.

Tickets are $4 for general admission, $6 for reserved seating and can be purchased at the George M. Steinbrenner Field Box Office.

Scout Program Includes June 7th Jersey Auction

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Calling all Scouts! The BlueClaws will again hold an extensive Scout program in 2015 and kick it off in style, wearing special Boy Scout Jerseys at their first Scout Day game on Sunday, June 7th.

The special scout jerseys are presented by the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts. They will be auctioned off at the 1:05 pm game and the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts.

The BlueClaws Scout Program includes four days – June 7th (1:05), July 25th (7:05), August 8th (7:05), August 17th (7:05). July 25th and August 8th are both Scout Night Sleeporvers presented by Camping World, where scouts can camp out on the field after the game. June 7th and August 17th are Kids Eat Free days where scouts 12 and under will receive a free hot dog, bag of chips, and a soda.

Each participating boy or girl scout will receive a Scout Patch. This year’s patch was designed by Grace Beeler of Girl Scout Troop 114 in Hazlet. She was the winner of the annual BlueClaws Scout Patch Design contest.

Scout patches from each of the BlueClaws 15 seasons of Scout Nights are available in the Claws Cove.

All scout groups receive value-priced tickets and a pre-game parade, as well as additional fun.
