Cubs Host ‘Light Up the Night’ to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities on September 24

 

SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Cubs will host Light Up the Night at Four Winds Field on Friday, September 24. The night will feature a movie and will serve as a special fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. The featured film will be Little Giants, presented by Lippert and after the movie, enjoy a fantastic fireworks display, powered by McDonald’s.

Early bird general admission tickets are $10 if purchased before September 1. Tickets are $12 if purchased on or after September 1. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana. Fans will be able to sit in the outfield grass, seating bowl or Budweiser picnic garden and are welcome to bring blankets with them, but lawn chairs and umbrellas are prohibited. On top of the movie, plenty of Four Winds Field attractions will be open such as the Toyota Fun Zone, Miller Lite Tiki Hut, 1st Source Bank Performance Center, and the splash pad. Many concessions stands and drink portables will be open, including fan favorite Steakadelphia. Round Barn Sangria, Jack Daniels cocktails and select craft beers will also be available. The Cubs Den Team Store will be open with a special Light Up the Night sale.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana offers a home-away-from home for families with seriously ill or injured children 21 and younger. They create, find and support programs that directly improve the well-being of children and their families to live happier and healthier lives.

Per health and safety guidelines, fans who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask, and attendees who are not vaccinated are encouraged to continue wearing a face covering.

Sounds Announce Online Auction of Camouflage Military Jerseys

 

The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club announced today an online auction of their game-used Military Appreciation Jerseys to benefit the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at Middle Tennessee State University. The auction begins today and runs until Friday, Aug. 13 at 6:00 p.m.

The Sounds wore the camouflage military jerseys during the 2019 season and twice so far in 2021 – Saturday, May 15 and on Saturday, July 3. The club will wear them for a final time as part of Military Appreciation Night on Sunday, Aug. 8.

The Sounds offer military family ticket discounts for every game at First Horizon Park. A $2 discount on single-game ticket prices is available for any Reserved Section seat – based on availability. The Daniels Center at MTSU is the largest and most comprehensive veterans center on any public higher education campus. It enables the over 1,200 military-connected student population at MTSU to have a one-stop shop to meet a variety of academic needs. It also allows military-connected students to study, gather, and get help from fellow veterans, who will serve as peer advisors and sponsors.

Aces to host PLAY BALL initiative with Mayor Schieve on Sunday, July 25

 

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces and Mayor Hillary Schieve will partner for the PLAY BALL Initiative and National Baseball Day prior to the club’s July 25 game against the Round Rock Express, beginning 90 minutes prior to first pitch. Mayor Schieve will also be in attendance.

PLAY BALL is a partnership between Major League Baseball and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, where Mayor Schieve was recently elected Second Vice President. MLB’s initiative demonstrates the positive way the game can serve as an outlet for physical activity and fun with friends all while encouraging young people and communities to engage in the game of baseball at its most basic levels.

“The Reno Aces have been an integral part of the Biggest Little City community for more than a decade,” Reno Mayor Schieve said. “For the past few years, I’ve been partnering with the Aces on the U.S. Conference of Mayors Play Ball initiative, and each year it gets bigger and better.”

Kids of all ages with a ticket to the game are welcome to participate on the field at Greater Nevada Field before gates open, engaging in a short baseball clinic dedicated to skill development, social interaction, team building and learning basic fundamentals.

Participants will be able to enhance their hitting, fielding and running abilities through the classic tee work, in-field work and baserunning games.

Yoga in the Outfield Back at Day Air Ballpark for the Second Time in 2021

 

*DAYTON, Ohio – *The annual “Yoga in the Outfield” event is back at Day Air Ballpark on Tuesday, July 20th. Tuesday marks the second of three events this year, with the third occurring on August 24th. The one-hour yoga class will be led by the founder of local yoga studio Ignite Yoga, Justina Sanford.

This event is perfect for yogis of all skill levels. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. before the class, and the yoga starts at 6:00 p.m. Stick around after the event to mingle with fellow yoga lovers, enjoy a complimentary drink at Day Air Ballpark, and see if you are a winner of any raffle prizes. Timber Rattlers to Host Scheels Kids’ Camp on July 29

 

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are announcing the return of the Scheels Baseball Camp for children between the ages of eight and twelve when they host a camp at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Thursday, July 29. This camp is limited to 125 participants.

Register your child by following this link to the registration form on the Timber Rattlers website on July 21 at 10:00 am.

The ballpark will be open for participants to check-in on July 29 starting at 1:15pm. The camp will be held on the field with instruction from players and coaches in fielding, hitting, pitching, and running the bases from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. All registered participants receive a free camp T-shirt from Scheels and a free Timber Rattlers ticket voucher.

Bowie, Md: The Bowie Baysox, Double-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles announce today that the team will host Heroes Day on Sunday, July 25 at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, MD when they take on the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The game on Sunday, July 25 will take place at 1:35 pm and a portion of the ticket sales from the game will benefit the Children’s Cancer Foundation in Columbia, MD. Heroes Day at the Baysox will feature a day of giving back as the team has partnered with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department to feature a charity softball game following the Baysox game against Hartford. The softball game will pit the Anne Arundel County Fire Department against the Mid-Atlantic Fire Department in a competitive on-field battle for softball supremacy. This is the second year that this event has taken place following a Baysox game, the first time was in 2019. All fans attending the Baysox game on Sunday, July 25 are invited to stay and enjoy the softball game.

All fans are also encouraged to come dressed in their favorite hero costume or animated hero character apparel. There will also be some great costumed characters in attendance for fans to meet and take photos with including a Panther and American Captain.

Baysox players and team members will also be wearing specially designed jerseys for this game that will be auctioned with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Cancer Foundation of Columbia.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by New Jersey Natural Gas, is set for Wednesday, August 4th and the BlueClaws are collecting names of survivors to honor at the game that night.

Spikes Paint the Park Pink on Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The State College Spikes and Mount Nittany Health partnered for another successful Paint the Park Pink Night on Saturday night as fans joined the fight against breast cancer and put the spotlight on community health during the Spikes’ 10-3 loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The festivities began with a Pink Spikes Mask Giveaway for the first 250 fans, with additional masks on sale for $5 apiece inside the Off the Rack Outfitters team store. Part of the proceeds from the mask sales will benefit the Mount Nittany Health Foundation. Fans also held up “I Wear Pink For” signs before the post-game FIREWORKS show to pay homage to family and friends who have fought breast cancer.

The night also spotlighted Mount Nittany Health’s One Thing initiative, challenging fans to commit to one thing this summer that will make a positive impact on their health, with a free gift for joining the initiative at MountNittany.org/onething.

In game action, Spikes (17-23) starter Jason Alvarez did not allow a hit over the first four innings, walking two batters and striking out four before departing the mound. However, the Crosscutters (17-19) took advantage of three State College errors in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead, with Steven Nitch’s two-run double serving as the only hit of the frame.

Williamsport then drew six consecutive walks in the eighth inning, followed by a Freddie Matos RBI fielder’s choice and a Dakota Kotowski two-run double to complete a seven-run frame.

Newcomer Darryl Loyd III drove in a run for State College with a single in the eighth, and Brady Brecklin’s sacrifice fly in the same frame completed the scoring.

The Spikes had taken the opening lead of the game in the second when Lukas Cook doubled and scored on Kevin Karstetter’s single one batter later.

Drew Garrett (1-1) took the loss in relief for State College after being charged with three unearned runs on one hit and two walks over an inning of work. Garrett also matched teammate Blake Seigler’s feat of striking out four batters in one inning, doing so in the fifth.

Williamsport reliever Kyle Murphy (1-0) picked up the win in his first appearance with the club, retiring all six batters he faced over two innings, one via strikeout.

Sunday, the Spikes and Crosscutters finish their two-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with a 4:05 p.m. matinee matchup. Right-hander Louis Davenport III (2-1) gets the start on the mound for State College. Williamsport will counter with right-hander Troy Taylor (3-1), who was drafted in the 20th round by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, but elected to return to the MLB Draft League.

Whitecaps reveal “Grand Rapids Dam Breakers” persona that will bring more awareness to Grand Rapids Whitewater project

 

Comstock Park, MI – – Saturday, July 17, 2021 – – West Michigan Whitecaps Manager Brayan Pena answered his phone. The call was from Jim Jarecki, Whitecaps VP & General Manager. Pena listens intently, then smiles. “We’re doing WHAT?”

Jarecki was calling to get some Whitecaps players set up for a photo shoot on the banks of the Grand River. They would be dressed in a new uniform; with a new name they would not recognize.

At LMCU Ballpark tonight, the West Michigan Whitecaps announced their newest alternate identity, and with a grand purpose. The Whitecaps will become the Grand Rapids Dam Breakers for one night only on Saturday, August 21**st**, at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.milb.com/west-michigan

“Efforts to restore the Grand River have been underway for over a decade” said Matt Chapman, of Grand Rapids Whitewater. “We are honored that the entire Whitecaps organization believes in the tremendous opportunity our community has with the Grand River. Students, Teachers Celebrate STEM Achievements at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – Hundreds of third- and fourth-grade students across the state of Oklahoma celebrated the culmination of the fifth year of the Oklahoma City Dodgers MVP Program: Encouraging STEM Education Saturday morning at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The program is free to all participants thanks to partners Devon Energy and Olsson and rewards area elementary students’ achievements in science and math while incentivizing students as well as their teachers to participate in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum. Top-performing MVP students received tickets to an OKC Dodgers game as well as a commemorative MVP baseball hat.

The fifth year of the program wrapped up on Saturday with MVP Field Day at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark — an exclusive event for participating MVP students and teachers, as well as their families.

Attendees enjoyed participating in a variety of STEM activities and demonstrations presented by Devon Energy, Olsson, NASA, COSTEMA (Central Oklahoma Regional STEM Alliance), Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum as well as Mad Science of Central Oklahoma.

“MVP Field Day allows us to reward MVP Program students, teachers and their families with a day filled with fun STEM activities and learning opportunities at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “STEM education is so important for our youth and we thank all who participated this school year for their hard work and efforts throughout Oklahoma.”

Participation in the MVP Program was initially open only to Oklahoma City Public Schools in 2017. After a successful start, the program expanded in 2018 to include additional metro-area classrooms in the Mid-Del, Putnam City, Edmond and Norman school districts. The OKC Dodgers MVP Program became available statewide in 2019.

The program was offered throughout Oklahoma for the third straight year in 2021 and has experienced increases of more than 1,000 percent in both participating classrooms and total students impacted since the program’s inaugural year in 2017. The 2020 and 2021 programs each impacted more than 10,000 students per school year, even in the midst of the unique challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dodgers opened a 12-game homestand earlier this week with a six-game series against the Reno Aces. Highlights for the Dodgers’ remaining July home schedule during the 12-game span include:

• Sunday, July 18 vs. Reno Aces and Sunday, July 25 vs. Sugar Land Skeeters: Kids can run the bases following each Sunday home game throughout the Oklahoma City Dodgers’ season.

• Tuesday, July 20 vs. Reno Aces and Tuesday, July 27 vs. Sugar Land Skeeters: Throughout the season, $2 Tuesdays feature $2 select beer, soda and bottled water from a line of Budweiser and Pepsi products. COOP Ale Works draft beer will also be available at a special rate of $3. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

• Friday, July 23 vs. Sugar Land Skeeters: Loop Rawlins will perform his one-man Wild West show, presented by Heartland Flyer. The trick roper, whip cracker and gun spinner will perform a variety of jaw-dropping feats throughout the night. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the 7:05 p.m. game.

• Saturday, July 24 vs. Sugar Land Skeeters: Enjoy the OKC Dodgers’ 6:05 p.m. game before taking in a postgame concert by Crowder presented by Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association on Faith and Family Night. Groups of 10 or more will receive a special rate and an OKC Dodgers hat in addition to the postgame concert. Also during the game, the INTEGRIS Home Run For Life series continues, featuring July’s honoree.

Vegan Night Set for Saturday, July 24

The Brooklyn Cyclones will be hosting Vegan Night at Maimonides Park on Saturday, July 24th when they take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 6:00 PM.

RiverDogs to Host Free Clinic Sunday

 

As part of Minor League Baseball’s recently announced MiLB Major Fun Weekend, the Charleston RiverDogs have announced that they will be hosting a free clinic for children ages 7-12 on Sunday, July 18. The clinic will take place on the field at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the RiverDogs 5:05 p.m. game against the Augusta GreenJackets.

“We were thrilled when Minor League Baseball announced this initiative to celebrate the game of baseball around the country this weekend,” said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. “We hope that this clinic will give children in the Holy City a chance to learn about baseball and experience how much fun it is to be around the game.”

The clinic is one part of the team’s effort to celebrate baseball at all levels this weekend. Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of the sport by Chris Singleton, the RiverDogs Director of Community Outreach and former professional baseball player, and members of the 2021 Post and Courier All-LowCountry baseball team. The All-Lowcountry baseball and softball players and coaches will be honored during the RiverDogs game that evening.

Jumbo Shrimp Faith & Family Night returns on August 7

 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s annual Faith & Family Night will return on Saturday, August 7, with the club hosting a postgame testimonial from former Jacksonville Jaguars ROAR cheerleader Shenette Doyle and a Christian comedy set presented by Sight and Sound productions with comedian Ron Barnett.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and first pitch between the Jumbo Shrimp and the Norfolk Tides is set for 6:35 p.m. Doyle’s testimonial and Barnett’s comedic performance will take place following the game.

A native of Jacksonville and retired Jacksonville Jaguars ROAR cheerleader, Doyle has served the city as a mental health therapist for seven years. She earned Miss Florida International 2006, and has served as a seasoned motivational speaker and has encouraged girls from throughout the United States and even Zimbabwe, Africa. Doyle continues to focus on the wholeness of others, and is currently studying to pass the state exam to become a licensed mental health therapist.

Barnett is a comedian who has built a reputation as a solid performer who utilizes self-deprecation, characters and voices along with comical insights that are hilarious and entertaining, while also being appropriate for any audience.

Indianapolis Indians Charities Introduces Circle City Donor Club

 

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Indians Charities (IIC) today unveiled the Circle City Donor Club, providing a new way for fans to donate to IIC while receiving love in return. The Donor Club has four levels ($50, $75, $100, $250) and each donor threshold receives benefits. Fans interested in impacting Central Indiana can join the Donor Club here.
