Segra Stadium to Host 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The 2nd Annual Fayetteville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be held on the morning of Saturday, September 12th at Segra Stadium. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the climb will start at approximately 9:15 a.m.

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters, police, and EMS who selflessly gave their lives on that tragic day. Each participant will pay tribute to those brave souls by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 EMS are never forgotten.

Registration fees are $30/per person and include your entry to the climb and a t-shirt. Anyone interested in climbing MUST REGISTER ONLINE by September 10th. We will not have walk-up registration this year to limit touch points at the entrance. Check-in for the event will begin at 7:45 a.m. All proceeds from the stair climb will benefit programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to support the families of your local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.

Trail West Bank joins Yoga in the Ballpark to support Veterans

The Missoula PaddleHeads have announced new partners for their monthly event, Yoga in the Ballpark, as non-profit partner Red Willow Learning Center, and headline sponsor Trail West Bank join the prana. Three installments are scheduled for Sunday August 23rd, Sunday September 13th, and Sunday October 4th at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Join the Missoula PaddleHeads and our Yogi Community as we embark on a morning of yoga, a light brunch, mimosas, and shared prana on the field. Through the support of the new headline sponsor, Trail West Bank, the Red Willow Learning Center will be provided 50 tickets to each Yoga in the Park event. The support of the Red Willow Learning Center’s Heroes Therapeutic Outreach program will help provide:

_The Heroes Therapeutic Outreach Program (HTOP) is designed to provide services that augment what is already being provided, filling a gap in available services for the veteran community. The Mind/Body modalities utilized in the HTOP programming help address the high incidence of depression, feelings of isolation, and the difficulties of readjustment to civilian life. _

As part of our Heroes Therapeutic Outreach Program, the Learning Center at Red Willow is proud to make all of its courses available to all Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel, their Families and Caregivers, as well as our Community’s First Responders.

Launched in March of 2014, the Heroes Therapeutic Outreach Program (HTOP), serves over 500 registered participants through modalities like Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Writing Therapies, Art Therapies, Equine-Assisted Therapy, Mindfulness, and Resilience. We work within a Venn Diagram consisting of Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, Chronic Pain, Depression, and Isolation.

Each yoga class will be led by a community of professionals and light, healthy fare to enjoy post workout. Stadium gates will open at 9:30am for a 10:00am class. Early registration and arrival are encouraged. Mimosas and other beverages will be available for purchase to enjoy with your meal and fellow yogis. All participants must bring their own yoga mat. Additional equipment such as a strap or block may be utilized but are not required.

Harley Night is Back For R-Phils Party With A Purpose

The Reading Fightin Phils and Classic Harley-Davidson are bringing back Harley Night on Thursday, August 6th during their Party With A Purpose event. The night will begin with the annual ride from Classic Harley and the fun will continue at the ballpark. Enjoy live music, your favorite ballpark food & drinks, and a catch on the outfield!

This season would have been the 23rd Annual Harley Night. The R-Phils have found a way to continue the tradition this summer! The ride from Classic Harley in Leesport at 5:30 and end at FirstEnergy Stadium.

In keeping with the guidelines for outdoor dining, and social distancing, the event will be limited to a small number of people. This community event is family-friendly and will take place in Tompkins VIST Bank Plaza, as well as on the field at America’s Classic Ballpark!

Gates will open at 5:15 and the concession stand will be open from 5:30PM – 8:30PM. Fans will also have access to the field to have a catch and spread out. There will be live music by a local artist.

“Opening Day” Fundraisers, Flying Squirrels Charities to donate $40,000 to local COVID-19 relief

April 16 fundraising efforts to benefit organizations assisting families and individuals across the Richmond region

RICHMOND, Va. – Last week’s “500 Bases of Love” and “Bring it Home” fundraisers by the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Sports Radio 910 The Fan raised more than $30,000 for COVID-19 relief. With an additional $10,000 contribution from Flying Squirrels Charities, more than $40,000 will be distributed to local organizations combating needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Holli Fund, The Community Foundation, Robins Foundation’s Family Crisis Fund through RVA Strong, Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation, Nourish Henrico and Chesterfield Food Bank.

On Thursday, April 16, the date originally scheduled as the team’s home opener, Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell walked 125 laps around the basepaths at The Diamond, touching 500 bases, as part of the “500 Bases of Love” fundraiser. Each lap and each base touched were representative of donations made to the fundraiser. Parney’s walk totaled more than 8.5 miles.

Later on Thursday afternoon, Parney joined Wes McElroy on Sports Radio 910 The Fan for “Bring it Home,” a four-hour live fundraiser with celebrity guests and prize opportunities for donors.

The double-header of events resulted in more than $30,000 raised.

On Wednesday, the team announced that Flying Squirrels Charities will be contributing an additional $10,000.

“We miss our fans terribly, so the ‘500 Bases of Love’ was a great way for us all to connect positively, raise some money to fight COVID-19 and tell our fans we appreciate them, love them and can’t wait to make memories again soon,” Parney said. “Each of these organizations will work diligently to make sure this money helps people in need because of this pandemic. We pray we can be together soon in safe and happy surroundings.

The money from the fundraisers will be distributed to organizations assisting families and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as groups helping those who are combating the outbreak.

Holli Fund offers grants to individuals in the food service industry experiencing an economic crisis. Grants help pay for rent, transportation, mortgage payments, and/or utilities. Holli Fund supports individuals in the Richmond-area food service industry who are experiencing an economic crisis such as injury, illness, death of an immediate family member, loss of income due to coronavirus restrictions, or other emergency.

The Community Foundation is a leading partner and advocate for philanthropy and service in the Richmond region. Founded in 1968, they’ve built a strong legacy of helping people and institutions give back with passion and purpose.

“You can always count on Parney and the Flying Squirrels organization not only to entertain us, but also to give back in meaningful ways,” Community Foundation CEO Sherrie Armstrong said. “At a time when many of our community members are particularly hard hit by this crisis, a donation to the Central Virginia COVID-19 Response Fund will directly support local organizations that are working hard to fulfill basic needs such as food, healthcare and shelter. Their generosity also sends a powerful statement that we can do more good when we come together.”

The Robins Foundation in partnership with the City of Richmond launched The Family Crisis Fund earlier this month to assist families with children in direct and immediate need of support due to job loss from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program has partnered with Family Independence Initiative to work with families across Richmond, Chesterfield and Henrico.

Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that partners with the school district to improve student learning and achievement in preparation for success in college, career, and community. Their role is to seek private sector philanthropy to support new and existing evidence-based programs and enrichment activities.

“We are incredibly grateful for this donation from the Flying Squirrels,” Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation Executive Director Ty Toepke said. “At a time when so many of our local businesses are facing their own challenges related to the COVID-19 crisis, their generosity towards the students of Richmond Public Schools is inspiring.”

Nourish Henrico supports locally owned restaurants in Henrico by buying meals for police officers, firefighters and other county employees who are working the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the county’s program, 700 to 900 employees are eligible to receive meals valued at $15 or less from about 100 approved restaurants. In addition to its own support, Henrico welcomes contributions from the community. Donations for Nourish Henrico may be made through the Henrico Police Foundation and the Henrico Firefighter Foundation.

“The Nourish Henrico Program is about giving back – giving back to one of the most impacted industries and to our frontline employees,” Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas said. “This effort has also shown me how strong and supportive our community is during times of difficultly, and the Flying Squirrels are an integral part of our community.”

Chesterfield Food Bank strives to stop families in the community from going to bed hungry every night. They proudly serve a variety of neighbors, a majority of whom do not qualify for government assistance. In cooperation with local Social Services, they locate and help those families and individuals that would not have been helped otherwise and serve 1,800 people a week.

Blue Wahoos Add Patch To Honor NAS Pensacola To Uniforms

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos will take the field in 2020 with their city over their hearts. The team announced on Thursday that the Blue Wahoos will wear “We Have The Watch-NAS Pensacola” patches on their uniforms in 2020 to honor the victims of the tragic shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola on December 6th, 2019 and the brave military members, police officers, and first responders who protect the citizens of Pensacola.

“The brave military members at Naval Air Station Pensacola keep our city and our nation safe, and it’s an honor for us to pay tribute to the victims of this tragic event and to the strength of the city of Pensacola as we collectively recover as a community,” team president Jonathan Griffith said.

The patches, designed by Marcus Pointe Baptist Church Media Director Robbie Harvey and pressed and embroidered by Wings & Things Monogramming on South Navy Boulevard, will be worn over the heart, directly above the Blue Wahoos logo on the team’s home uniforms.

The same patches are worn on the uniforms of local military members at Naval Air Station Pensacola and first responders across Pensacola. Fans can purchase a patch for $1 at the Flight Deck Store at the National Naval Aviation Museum.

Pulaski Yankees release 2019 charitable contributions

PULASKI, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees today announced the organization made over $282,000 in charitable contributions during the 2019 calendar year, an increase of over $250,000 from 2018. Through the new Calfee Cares community relations program, the Yankees made $253,587 in gift in kind donations and $28,833 in cash donations from in-stadium fundraising efforts.

“When we introduced Calfee Cares in May of 2019, our goal was to prioritize our community relations efforts and continually find and create opportunities to give back to the fans, businesses, and community organizations in Pulaski who support us all season long,” said Pulaski Yankees General Manager Betsy Haugh. “We could not be more thrilled with the results from 2019 and the contributions our organization and players made last season.”

Yankees players and staff members totaled 536 hours in volunteer efforts and community appearances during 2019 across more than 35 different events, including the Yankees’ annual HOPE Week (Helping Others Persevere & Excel) initiative presented by Gay & Neel, Inc.

22 of the team’s 34 regular-season home games had a community tie, most notably Agriculture Night 2.0 presented by Farm Credit of the Virginias which led to a $4,250 donation to the Virginia Tech Agriculture Extension and Pulaski County 4-H, and fan favorites such as Heroes Night (SERVPRO of Pulaski County) and Military Appreciation Night (Pulaski Health & Rehabilitation Center).

The Yankees participated in five MiLB Charities national initiatives, including Sun Safety Awareness (American Cancer Society), Domestic Violence Awareness (Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation), Stars & Stripes Caps (New Era Cap Co.), MiLB CommUNITY (Allegiant Airlines), and Hope at Bat (American Cancer Society).

Calfee Park also hosted three community-focused special events – the first-ever Pulaski Yankees 5K benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia, Homers for Hearts benefitting the American Heart Association, and Guns and Hoses benefitting the New River Valley Agency on Aging.

Additionally, the Yankees began partnerships with the American Cancer Society (also an MiLB Charity Partner) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia, joining a lineup of local community partners that includes Shelor Motor Mile Growing the Future and the Pulaski County 4-H.

“Our community partnerships are so important to us and our efforts to give back to the community,” Haugh said. “We look forward to working with these four again in 2020 and introducing a few new community partnerships for the coming season.”

Including Pulaski’s $282,420, the Appalachian League’s reported contributions from 2019 total $2,347,712.

Season tickets and flex packs are now on sale for the 2020 Pulaski Yankees season, which gets underway at Motor Mile Field at Calfee Park on June 22. The Pulaski Yankees are the Advanced Rookie level affiliate of the New York Yankees playing in the Appalachian League. Pulaski is celebrating its 54th season in the Appalachian League in 2019. Calfee Park has won league championships in 1948, 1969, 1986, 1991 and 2013. San Jose Giants Release 2019 Community Report

The San Jose Giants released today their 2019 Community Report. The report serves as an overview of the organization’s community outreach, charitable fundraising efforts, youth development, in-stadium service and community events hosted at Municipal Stadium as well as a ‘thank you’ to all fans, partners, players and staff members.

Spikes, WHVL, NFFF to host 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

The State College Spikes are proud to partner with WHVL-TV and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to host the inaugural Central Pennsylvania 9/11 Stair Climb. The event will be held on Saturday, September 28 at the home of the Spikes, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which is located on the campus of Penn State University.

The Central Pennsylvania 9/11 Stair Climb is open to the community and participants may register as an individual or as part of team. The cost is $30 per individual or team member. All climbers receive a commemorative shirt and a name badge of the firefighter they are honoring. Anyone interested in participating may register by visiting http://events.firehero.org/whvl or www.whvl.com, and there are no restrictions on who may climb.

All proceeds from the Central Pennsylvania 9/11 Stair Climb will go to the NFFF. The NFFF funds programs to support the families of your local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit. The activities begin on the day of the event with climber check-in at 8:00 a.m. followed by opening ceremonies at 9:00 a.m. Climbing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories to symbolize the number of floors in each of the Twin Towers. Following the climb, participants and volunteers will treated to an after party beginning at 1:30 p.m.

First responders and military can attend this Wednesday’s Midwest League championship game for free

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (September 9, 2019) – The South Bend Cubs will play the first two games of the Midwest League Championship series at Four Winds Field this Wednesday and Thursday night. On Wednesday night, September 11, South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart has invited all active and retired military, as well as all first responders, to attend that night’s game free of charge.

“We are so proud to be in the championships. It’s certainly a special night for us as a team, but also as a community,” Hart said. “We can spend the evening together honoring those who protected our country on 9/11, and celebrating those who continue to protect us. We want as many military personnel and first responders as we can get in the stadium on Wednesday.”

Hart said all first responders, active duty and military veterans can receive two free tickets to the game. Guests must present Military ID or form of first-responder identification at the Box Office to claim tickets. The offer is not available online.

This week’s Midwest League championship games take place at Four Winds Field, 501 W. South Street, South Bend. Tickets can be purchased online at SouthBendCubs.com or by calling the Box Office at 574-235-9988. Gates for both games will open at 6 p.m., first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

South Bend Cubs to Host Trick or Treating Event on October 28

SOUTH BEND, IN – After the success of last year’s event, the South Bend Cubs have once again partnered with the South Bend Police Department to bring back Stu and Swoop’s Cops and Goblins trick or treating event on Monday, October 28 from 5:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M at Four Winds Field.

Over 6,000 kids and parents packed the ballpark last year in a massively successful first go-around of the event. Stu and Swoop’s Cops and Goblins allows local families to come out and enjoy safe trick or treating as the South Bend Police and Fire Department will be joined by other city officials. The groups will hand out candy with other South Bend community sponsors. Along with the groups present, South Bend Cubs mascots Stu and Swoop will be present to meet and take pictures with the kids.

With the completion of The Ivy at Berlin Place Apartments and “Gateway to South Bend” between the two buildings, patrons attending the event can enter and exit through Gate D past center field. The success and attendance of last year’s event has also brought in more vendors for this year’s function. Tables will be set up all throughout the concourse.

The South Bend Fire Department will also bring along their smoke house to the event. The partnership between the Cubs and South Bend Police Department allows the tandem to give back to the entire South Bend community.

“Community policing is a priority for the South Bend Police Department and this annual trick or treat event is the one officers look forward to the most,” South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said. “This fun and safe event for families is yet another opportunity for the community and officers to come together and continue to build positive relationships that benefit the city as a whole.”

“We were hoping for a good turn out last year but did not expect our first year hosting this wonderful event to be so successful,” South Bend Cubs Director of Media and Promotions Chris Hagstrom-Jones said. “Given the success of last year, we plan to use more of the ballpark to space out candy tables and try to get more kids through the lines.”

Halloween music will also be playing from the speakers around the ballpark. Both the Cubs Den Team Store and 1st Source Bank Performance Center will be open to the public. Kids hoping to check out the Performance Center will be able to take swings in the same batting cages used by the South Bend Cubs players.

Kids arriving in their Halloween costumes will have the chance to enter a costume contest at the park. Prizes will be awarded to those who are wearing the most fun and creative costumes. Make sure to arrive early, as a crowd exceeding last year’s 6,000 is expected this year.

Dragons Host Dayton Area Police Night at Fifth Third Field on August 22

Dayton, Ohio – The Dayton Dragons are pleased to welcome the Dayton Area Police to Fifth Third Field on Thursday, August 22, when the Dragons host the Fort Wayne TinCaps at 7:00 p.m. The night at the ballpark will also raise money for a Bootleggers, Bandits, and Badges exhibit that tells the story of Prohibition Era Dayton.

Fans are invited to get to the ballpark early and check out a large, interactive display on the plaza. The Dayton Police Department (DPD) will have tables set up for fans to see SWAT gear as well as a Bat Car, bomb squad items, motorcycles and bicycles all used by the DPD. McGruff the Crime Dog will also be on the plaza to interact with fans and take photos.

Once fans are in the park, the DPD will be a part of the pregame festivities. Retired Lt. Colonel Virgil F. McDaniel will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. McDaniel was the Dayton Assistant Police Chief from 1990 to 1994 and served on the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police executive board for over 30 years. Following the ceremonial first pitch, the Dayton Police Department’s Color Guard will present to colors for the performing of the national anthem.

The Department is raising money through the Dayton Police History Foundation for the Bootleggers, Bandits and Badges exhibit that will open on October 28 at Carillon Park. The exhibit will primarily feature tools of the trade from the early 20th century used by both police and gangsters. This includes a paddy wagon, a 1921 colt machine gun, also known as a “Tommy Gun”, and items from when “Public Enemy #1” John Dillinger was arrested in Dayton.

Lakeland Flying Tigers To Host Law Enforcement Appreciation Weekend

The Flying Tigers will be hosting a Law Enforcement Appreciation Weekend on May 31st and June 1st. The weekend will kick off with the Sheriff Grady Judd Bobblehead giveaway. The first 1,200 paid adult fans (13+) will recieve a voucher for a Sheriff Grady Judd bobblehead courtesy of 97.5 WPCV and Browning Moving and Storage.

“You can take me home, your very own Sheriff Grady Judd bobblehead to look over your house when you’re not there,” Sheriff Judd said.

Gates will open at 5:30pm.

Fans will be able to redeem their voucher starting in the 5th inning to receive their Sheriff Grady Judd Bobblehead. Fan must be present to receieve the bobblehead.

The weekend will continue with the return of the most anticipated rematch in Polk County, Battle of the Badges 4. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office looks to defend their title of Softball Champion against the Lakeland Police Department. Gates will open at 3pm and first pitch for the softball game will be at 3:45pm. Teams will conclude play at 5pm. The Flying Tigers will take the field at 6pm wearing their new specialty jerseys. The jerseys will be available for purchase for $100. Jerseys will be game worn and will be autographed by a Flying Tigers player or coach following the game. Proceeds from the jersey raffle will benefit the corresponding foundations of the LPD and PCSO.

Safe Kids Upstate Day is Sunday, April 7th

The Greenville Drive are excited to host the annual Safe Kids Upstate Day at Fluor Field on Sunday, April 7th in celebration of Safety Patrol members across Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee Counties.

First pitch against the West Virginia Power is at 3:05 PM, and the first 300 kids to arrive when gates open at 2:00 will receive a complimentary, custom-fit bike helmet.

All afternoon, the Drive and Safe Kids Upstate have plans for fun activities, family safety exhibits and giveaways! The interactive exhibits include Buddy’s Safety House, a Teen Driving 3D Road Course Challenge, Hands Only CPR Demonstrations, and a chance to meet with local firefighters and law enforcement. Great prizes like drones, scooters and giant pool inflatables will be given away throughout the day.

M-Braves to Salute Military and First Responders with $5 Tickets All Season

PEARL, MS – The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that beginning in 2019; all members and veterans of all branches of the U.S. military and first responders/emergency personnel will receive $5 field level tickets ($7 discount) to all Mississippi Braves home games when presenting a valid ID. This expanded discount on tickets for all Mississippi Braves home games at Trustmark Park to our local heroes is an extension of SportClips Military Monday and AMR First Responders Wednesday.

On SportClips Military Monday this season, FREE field level or general admission tickets will be offered to all members and veterans of all branches of the U.S. military. One random fan, representing the military, will receive a SportClips prize pack. AMR First Responders Wednesday offers FREE field level or general admission tickets to first responders/emergency personnel.

Giants Release 2018 Community Report

SAN JOSE, CA– The San Jose Giants released today their 2018 Community Report. The report serves as an overview of the organization’s community outreach, charitable fundraising efforts, youth development, in-stadium service and community events hosted at Municipal Stadium as well as a ‘thank you’ to all fans, partners, players and staff members.
